young statline in that very first drive of the game six of eight 70 yards and a touchdown and it was really all of the offseason moves that we saw the Panthers make this year to really help Bryce young to offer him some support in front of them around them and really to bolster this offense as a whole and it was General Manager Dan Morgan that kind of coined the phrase during his introductory press conference that he wants to find some dogs to all add to this roster but just exactly what does that mean and he straw sat down with them to learn more about his process as a GM your experiences in this game are at a lot of different levels a lot of different places how has that shaped your philosophy when it comes to building a roster obviously playing you know I understand kind of what these guys are going through out there but in terms of you know the roster construction and philosophy I think it it's really about bringing passionate players in here that love football love the day-to-day process and guys that are just workers guys that love the work and and and just love the process you know when Dave and I sat together and we talked about the type of guys we wanted that's what we want we want those passionate type of guys and competitors guys football your first team that Carolina went two years later you're playing for a championship you've seen what a turn around can look like what are the key ingredients that you saw and getting that team from 1 and 15 that potentially translate now yeah I think it's about identifying the right type of guys um the guys that you put in the locker room obviously the players have to be good players I think it has a lot to do with locker room chemistry and the type of guys that we impus and that room and then it's also the people in the building people that we bring in building sport sta trainers Sport Science coaching staff everybody kind of working together towards a common goal here's that moment right here that's really what it's going to take for us to get to where we want to go is all of us aligned all of us being on the same page and working towards the ultimate goal which is going to the playoffs and ultimately winning a championship down the middle intercept it's de [Music] richon one of the iron aumes in football is you you start from the lines and you build out how much of that did you take to heart when you went and got Robert hunt and Daven Lewis and started constructing your vision for this roster you know in terms of the roster philosophy you definitely got to build it from the inside out going out and doing what we did in free agency with the two guards obviously moving Austin Corbett to Center bringing guys in like javian Clowney resigning Derek Brown to an extension you know I think that's all in the plan just to keep our front strong and and continue to build it it's still early but what impact do you feel Dave Canales and his staff can have on Bryce Young I think it's a big time impact on Bryce and I think Bryce is really happy out there and I think the guys are happy um the energy that Dave brings to the field on the day-to-day basis him and his staff up brother pretty beautiful go this is why we're here is for this it's great out there uh the energy feels really good just a Vibe I think everybody recognizes that and and is buying into that and that's what we want our culture to be here we want to be positive we just want a bunch of people love football just kind of love to be around the game and are passionate about the game Dan Morgan has made some calculated moves e even as of this week sending linebacker Michael Barrett to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for some quarterback death with Michael Jackson he says he can barely sleep at night just trying to figure out ways in which he can make this roster better they'll have some tough decisions ahead of Tuesday when they cut that roster down to 53 but they don't have to do that yet guys we less than 150 yards Sheran Fe churning gets a couple to the 40 undrafted rookie out of monou where he was a two-time player of the year in the colonial and Steve his calling card wasn't just speed it was the big play 14 career touchdown runs of at least 50 yards in college that's crazy I mean what these guys are able to do coming into into the NFL you don't hear a lot about him and then all of a sudden you figure out hey where did this guy come from and you look at his film speaks for [Music] herself Shan again Jitter bugs inside the 35 close to another Panthers first down this is where if it's third and short again regular season more so your analytics could come into play if you're confident in the push your offensive line is getting this could become a shot play this becomes a shot play especially when you're sitting in this position you're running the football well so that means that the the secondary the linebackers that could continuously creep down more and more to fill the gaps that's where the play action comes in where you have a Crosser underneath you got somebody in the flat but then that's where you go across the field on the opposite side with a wide receiver or someone uh leaks outside and that's where the big plays come but this is definitely for down territory it might be a little short looks like so this opportunity where play action really becomes a factor that's going to be third down and short you know how in life we're changing how the decades stack right 40s the new 30 50s the new 40 and football third and shorts the new second and short I complete running back I believe the ACL injury helped him get drafted by the Carolina pan he I don't believe he would have been available if he continued to be healthy throughout the season possibly a learn how to play the game off the field he had a thousand yard season at age 33 for a running back that's pretty Dar good there's there's some running backs right now in their 20s that can't get a thousand a lot of them can't get to 33 correct Gore is a Surefire Hall of Famer eligible in 202 six third alltime leading rusher behind EMT Smith and Walter pton which becomes really a great trivia question one day probably not the first guy you think of but in the words of Heming way the great thing is to last and to get your work done he did both and his son is doing the same right now looking talk about with in this division it was New England now that Tom's not here now is it Josh and still not Josh because now you have Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City Miami is doing some crazy things and then you don't know how New England how their quarterback situation is going to evolve with their young rookie quarterback you got the Jets too if Aaron Rogers is healthy it's tough yeah bills have been steady though five straight playoff appearances six in the last seven years four straight division titles they lost at home in the playoffs the last two years Zack Davidson the tight end makes progression as the preseason games go on and this one's definitely been our best one so far offensively we're moving the ball Well Jack plumber's doing doing a great job spreading the ball around so um so what you want in the finale of the preseason I know you've been a part of a lot of different offenses how does this one maybe differ from your last stop yeah you know I think Dave's done a great job with everything uh they came in with a plan of exactly what they wanted to look like and it was we've just followed the plan and so getting to this point now we're about to start preparing and get ready for regular season games and uh the game plans are going to going to start you know factoring into everything going on so they've done a great job I've been uh really happy with everything that that we've been doing and so got to keep it going thanks Andy that's a great job by Andy but I hate to say it but Frank Gore Jr's for took that rock and bringing some kids with un lefted rookie out of Southern Miss where he ran for 4,000 yards in his career he was the MVP of the East West Shrine Bowl and he finds the back of the end zone to make it an eight-point game 230 to go in this third bills want to attempt an outside kick you have to first declare it and they are allowed to try one after they declare it if they choose to do so because only the losing team can try and on side kick in the fourth quarter you're only allowed two by the way you don't get more than two oh really yeah that's tough onside kicks only permitted in the fourth by the trailing team and they have to declare it and you're permitted two onside kicks per game and when you declare it is it like the offens lineman declaring that he's eligible we about to find out if they choose to do so you got to tell the with a young guy is based off price and salary cap and future so you're talking about hey a guy today but then also guys later in the season long in the tooth as well sometimes a guy can get cut that was a surprise and when you're when you're a top waiver wire for the first three weeks man that that could be very beneficial you get good real quick or improve you can improve uh faster than people
