We can also tell you that because of the heat today, it's impacting schedules for some students in Dauphin County. In fact, it forced the central Dauphin school district to dismiss early at six of its elementary schools today. And again tomorrow, Fox 40 three's Alyssa Kratz live in Mountain View Elementary School in Lower Paxton Township. She has reaction from both parents of students and school district leaders. Hey, there definitely a scorcher out here today. As Danielle said even hotter temperatures expected ahead of us tomorrow. It's for Central Dolphin to dismiss six of their 13 elementary schools early including here at Mountain View all because these buildings, well, they don't have central Air day two of the school year was a short one. I'm kind of glad that we're getting out early. She attends Mountain View elementary, one of six elementary schools in the central Dauphin school district which are dismissing early Tuesday and Wednesday due to the excessive heat, all six schools are without central air something the superintendent wants to change. I did get an opportunity to visit some of the schools without air. So I know exactly what the students are going through in the staff, which is why we wanted to really make the decision as early as possible. He says the district is planning to tackle the H VAC systems in the six schools over the next few years, a project with a hefty price tag. We know it's definitely a priority. Uh We also know there's a, you know, a, a dollar figure attached to that. Uh So how do you create a plan when you address all sick of those schools? But doing it away, what's gonna be affordable for, for the community and also decisions that we have to make uh during budget time as well. In the meantime, several buildings do have window units in some rooms until there's some kind of air conditioning or ac unit put in. It's, it's going to be like this every year. I'm pretty sure it was like this last year, day two, half day or back then. It was virtual learning at one point during day two. So it happens, parents say you have to go with the flow until the issue is resolved. I work from home. So these early dismissals are fine. I'm actually on my lunch break at the moment. So this really wasn't that much of a big deal for me, but I'm sure other parents had to figure it out. Take half days. Now the kids are getting lunch before being dismissed. PM, kindergarten was canceled today and it will be the same deal tomorrow. So did you talk to school leadership about how these decisions are made? Yeah. So the superintendent tells us they use a tool called real time. It's something that allows them to go into the school buildings and actually track the real feel temperature compared to what it is outside. Obviously, if that number gets to be too high, that's when they have to make decisions like this week and do those early dismissal and Daniel.
