started off but there's been a big story around sports radio here recently Zach and it has to do with up there in Chicago with barol Eddie who if you follow bartool at all he was doing a stin up there what is it 670 The Score is that the name of the radio station oh that's why I'm being W oh yeah 670 The Score we'll get to you in a second mystery voice uh but bar stool Eddie is doing a guest spot in the afternoons and they're doing some cross talk with the midday show and one of the guys in the midday show is Dan Bernstein now Dan Bernstein is a longtime radio guy for 670 The Score and this seemingly playful discussion between a guest host and one of the longtime hosts really has taken a turn and listen let's just play the audio for you here's bar stoleti and there there's here's the back and forth and here's how Bernstein responded to him just using calling him yeah be careful horoscope guy Bernstein no oh God no I didn't know you you can call me Dan or you can call me bernzy but you don't know me like that got it Eddie got you Eddie's there with you so you heard baretti saying got it kind of nervous like uncomfortable now they're not in the same room they're on remote the other guys Bernstein is back at the studio and just to provide some context there I mean it just seemed awkward as hell now from all accounts we know BARC edti seems to be a really really nice guy and this has stok the flame from one Dave poroy the leader of bar stool before it got to poroy like just like that interaction we just heard it right like and that was the basis of this whole thing blowing up uh nationally let alone locally up there in Chicago with barol like I think it could have died right there and nobody would have thought twice about it like I think that could have been it would have been like oh that was weird and like moved on from it however that was not the end of it Jay no it wasn't and here's Dave por leader of barol and his response to their interaction that's him doing them a favor they're relics of the past so they got this guy I guess Dan Bernstein Eddie calls him uh he's like hey Bernstein it's like you don't have the right you don't know me to call me Bernstein you created an enemy for life stoies you have my permission on a professional level you can harass out of this guy till his dying breath so if we only had somebody in house here at wdae who had the experience of working for 670 this score oh wait we do our program director John Mima we're bringing him in for Chicago he's Rock mamola that's correct yes yeah if we're going to old school it's got to be Rock mamola for this for this segment rock mamola chag all right so earlier in the week we were talking about this before we brought John mola in and I was like what do you think's got people up in Chicago so mad these days is it the wind like what's going on up there you think with Bard on the ice Caleb there you think the Vibes would be good you think Chicagoans would be happy our chief finds officer Zack blobner is he's befuddled the Apparently missed the white socks entire season so far that's the point though it's almost so did it's almost over right like baseball season's ending there's nothing but good vibes right now in Chicago EX for this so bartool Eddie is kind of one of the more beloved figures when it comes to barol a lot of other people are very kind of flagrant and there're he's one of the more humble down toe guys he uses the term Bernstein and Dan just you can just tell he does not like it one bit you interned for Dan Bernstein I I was a former intern of the bores and Bernstein show my moniker was Johnny moldun Johnny moldun was that a term of endearment or every every intern that was on the Bor and Bernstein show had a Johnny name and since my name was John they couldn't go Johnny John so they went Johnny malun okay so I guess the clear question was like was Bernstein a dick back then or is he just dick now like sorry Bob uh like it just seems like come on man it's your last is that something that we don't know feel like Eddie barstol here okay well first of all I I've never met Eddie so I I have to go on these same assumptions as you I don't know if he's a good guy or not I can only go I can only go off what I see uh but look I worked for the score from 2003 to 2011 then I came here okay um I worked well I didn't work for Boris and Bernstein but I worked on the show that previously you know took their time slot anyway here's what I'll say uh about Dan Bernstein because I know there's probably going to be people that this gets back to and you know honestly I haven't been there in 13 years I'm loyal to very many people still up there but look everyone has ego Dan Bernstein has an ego I have an ego you have an ego you have an ego we're talking about us we're not talking about us we're talking about Dan bur Dan has a history with bar stool okay do you call him Dan yes I call him Dan you never you I've never called him mola M do you call him Bernstein I don't call him Bernstein I've always called him Dan okay last name very prevalent in sports by the way a lot of people in sports go by their last but I also didn't know him when I was an intern right away but I still called him Dan and notice on the clip he says well you don't know me like that you can call me Dan or whatever call Bern well I now look I got wi of this yesterday I I didn't know this was going I think it's freaking hilarious to be honest with you um but I went back and I watched the whole thing because the whole broadcast is still on their twitch Channel I wanted to see like look you see Clips it's like okay whatever right Dan did not want to talk to Eddie Dan did not want to do this cross talk segment you could tell from the very beginning when he introduced Spiegel and Eddie and that was it nothing about barol didn't mention bar stool didn't even and that was the end of it and then Dan was very quiet through the entire thing now look Dan is not a fan of bar stool he's made that known his entire career the fact that a bar stool guy is guest hosting on the score when honestly the signature Chicago guy from bar stool is on the competition has been on the competition has been for years on the competition so this is barol kind of making its way in two score business oo that's the way I look at this bar peeing on 670 The Score now look now look and and they they say look he he's a he's an icon of the past or whatever look B he's a relic he's a Bernstein was one of the top rated shows in the history of Chicago radio Dan Bernstein right now along with Lawrence Holmes his new his current co-host they do very well for the market believe me they do here's the thing I'll say he did he overreact yes of course he did but look he's not a fan of their product he's not a fan of anyone on that platform and if and if he wants to go that route from a guy that he's never met that honestly works for a platform that he does not respect I can understand why he would react like that because I know Dan I've worked for Dan Dan is not treated just you know Eddie like that he's treated other guys like that on the air too aren't you all supposed to take care of your fellow Chicago so you kind of answer my question round he's always been like this he's always treated people like Dan Dan Dan has always had a beef with barst and look you know he's not the first first one in that market to have a be does he treat other people like this or just bar people um well John wasn't a bar sto person I was not a bar person bar back then was Dan nice to me yeah yeah Dan was why you call him that his name is Bernstein Bernstein was Bern call Dan Dan was fine me D Bernay can I call him Berns just the only one because apparently nobody calls him that no me and me and Dan Dan was always great to me and and I've always tried to be good to Dan so I I mean look I I look at it this way does he have an ego yes we all do he doesn't respect bar stool they put a bar stool guy on the score and I think that's I think he actually Spiegel said that moving into and notice I call Spiegel Spiegel um but that that was the first time that a bar stool personality has co-hosted on the score so is that that's the decision of the program director that well well look I I I would I would assume that you either need Mitch Rosen who's the program director uh director of broadcasting up there for for Odyssey I would assume he needed to sign off on it is it dumb of Mitch to put a bar stool guy on the score no because of the platform they're in and also look they just moved to the market so it's kind of an easy way of putting a different personality that he typically wouldn't hear on the score on the score makes a lot of sense to me plus it's putting that audience on there I will say this I like the move I will say this though look you're right this could have died and just been nothing because look burn almost said Bernstein Dan Bernstein Dan Dan has gotten into squabbles with with other Talent on the air before and look it is what it is but at the same time What Porto is doing putting this huge mob going against Dan Bernstein is ridiculous find someone else to go fight why seriously I love radio radio not radio is not radi is going if barin I'm going call what do you like about that barnstein is going to treat somebody like that that didn't mean disrespect whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa how okay first of all he's never met Eddie if you went to a place that you didn't respect or they were in your house wouldn't you have some sort of decorum with that or at least somebody's last name isn't having decorum he doesn't respect he doesn't respect their brand no no no no that's two different things that's two different things you're saying that Eddie didn't have decorum by calling him Bernstein that has nothing to do with the relation hold on that doesn't have any relation that has no correlation to how Dan feels about bar I knowing Dan it's not what he said it's how he said it so he took exception to the way that Bernstein was said it's not what it exactly it's not what he said it's how he said so he used the guy's last name and he said burn he went like this Bern it's all it's all in the look I'm not I'm not saying I'm not trying to defend Dan I'm really not but I can understand knowing Dan how I know you work in Chicago you work in Chicago is he the biggest is he the biggest personality for 670 The Score or one of them one of them if you are the biggest personality one of the biggest markets in the country and you are that sensitive somebody's using your last name and that is how you're going to act that says a whole hell a lot hell hell of a lot more about Dan Bernstein than it does about Bar store your petty feelings about somebody else made you look like an ass in front of the entire country I'm sorry well I would say this he he's the longest standing Talent on the score I wouldn't say he's the biggest talent on the score at least not anymore he's not in the most I'm sure he's been there long he was there way before I started so now a guy like poroy your thoughts on him kind of oh get bent seriously okay go away let's Advance this though so since all of that's happened now we're all cut up yeah so Bernstein isn't taken any calls I love how they've shut downstein they've shut down what are your thoughts on like their approach post bartool I okay here here okay postar stool shutting down the phone lines not the first time the score is done first of all used to work for Mike North we used to do it once in a while we had a little spat with Azie I'm sure you guys heard about that one too shutting down the phone lines we have shut down the phone lines plenty of times in the past that's fine and the stoolies or whatever the hell they're called fine okay wow um but but here's the other thing um he does have to address it I think just because of the the size of it now I think he does have to address it and honestly I hope he kind of apologizes does he I don't know we'll see why but why why John why does he have to apologize because it's the right thing to do because of the public opinion of the moment but we're sitting there talking about like oh he has this feeling towards bar stool well apologies are the worst I hate apologies if that's but John if that's how he's going to be John if that's how he's going to be then don't apologize if that's how you're going to treat people knowing Dan he probably doesn't want to apologize what's what's more egregious at the score calling Dan Bernstein Bernstein or putting ketchup on your dog oh putting ketchup on your hot dog oh so this isn't even that big of a deal it's sa come on I I I I'm still like flumix that you get to a point where you have to turn off your phones like it's gotten to that point well they don't take a lot of phone calls anyway I mean I don't know if you guys have ever watched their they don't take a lot of phone calls okay so so you're saying that that's not as big of a deal from the outside no they're not now like look if Dan was on like a postgame show which I don't think he does anymore then then that's another thing turning off the phones I mean first of all they haven't said they're turning off their phones it's assumption by by the stoolies in air quotes Okay that they're turning off their phones I've watched their twitch chat have they taken phone calls in the last couple days watched every second of their show I don't know surprised by that oh well he's on he's hey look we're in Tampa Bay John's in charge I'm a little busy J baby little busy but I I I fully expect Dan to apologize because he's going to be forced to I know he doesn't want to but I'm sure that he'll be forced to oh and and oh what I'm say why would they force him to apologize because being a for former employee of that company you just you just nail it in the butt while you can
