rookie quarterbacks six of them taken in the first 12 picks this year if you haven't heard Caleb Williams gets things started at home against the Tennessee Titans 1 p.m Eastern game on Fox week one watch that Chris instead of giants Vikings so I don't have to listen to you every time the Giants have a play that results in positive yardage it will be Caleb Williams taking on The Titans with a new head coach will leveson year two Caleb Williams the present and the future for the Chicago Bears that should be a fun one and that same day Jon Daniels late afternoon Jon Daniels taking on the Bucks in Tampa to start his career yeah I mean listen that that won't be easy we know the Bucks are good they're talented right playoff football team and you know I look at Caleb Williams though look at that one and go hey 1 pm Tennessee not doesn't necessarily have the you know the the the aura of oh the toughest place to play right they're a new coach and kind of a new team themselves that's certainly one I think is winnable right I don't think we're going to Drake May on day one and especially now that I see the games at Cincinnati I think we got jobi Bret I think they're trying to tell you that we're not going to see Michael pennx right and then you know you got the other two like you said JJ McCarthy at the Giants that won't be easy the giant fans will be ready it's a new defensive coordinator Bo Nicks in Seattle not easy either of course we know how tough it is to play there and then it's the Ravens Mike McDonald defense that'll be tough on a rookie quarterback could it be could it be Sam darnold seeing ghosts again at MetLife Stadium to start the season I could it be I don't expect it to be right I mean I think there's a chance but I think it would take JJ McCarthy to really stumble in the ota's training camp phase for him not to be the starter one I think he is NFL ready you know two he's a top 10 pick they traded up to get him right I think he's very mature mentally tough all that I think he's going to be one of those guys they going to go hey trial you know let's throw him out there into the fire and he'll get better that way and I I expect to see him week one yeah I I do too and look Kevin okono I think has the ability to craft a game plan that will protect him that's right he'll know what he's ready to do he'll know what he's not ready to do he'll do the things he's ready to do he'll make it as simple as possible to ease him into it but when you have a great coach a great play designer and a great play caller that's what helps you protect a rookie quarterback yeah that that that's right and that's what I would worry about with the flip side of that right is you know I I I I would want to start my Rookie of course cuz we've we've we're all in on him and he's our future and also as good as McCarthy is I'd be worried Sam darnold is better than anybody they had playing there in Minnesota last year not named Kirk Cousins so I'd be worried of hey you know we want to play JJ McCarthy this year but we're going to try to find a spot in the schedule early on to put him in but I I'd worry with that offense and you know as long as Justin Jefferson's back in the fold and things that Sam darnold could play at a level to where it' be hard to put JJ McCarthy back in and that's where I wouldn't want to start down that road until I had to and I would I would push JJ McCarthy hi it's Mike Florio thanks for watching PFT on YouTube hit subscribe for the latest news and Analysis from pro football talk
