everybody loves coko as the fans in New York City are pumped up coko serves up a bagel in the second set I'm good energy welcome to tennis in a minute this video is brought to you via the doctrine of fair use the fair dealings act and we're also covered under the Digital Millennium act and dad can relax yes as Koko's guaranteed a spot in the third round we're going to talk about her third round opponent shortly but as Maria walks off the court waves to the fans in case this is the last time we see her play on Arthur Ash or in New York period we're going to say Thanks for the Memories however if you ask me I think she can play well into her 40 she is that good now kok started off amazing with the break to 15 she would give the break back a little shaky midet but she would save the next four opportunities that Maria had to break and she would surge ahead wrapping the first setup 6'4 the second set showing that mental toughness we talked about and I don't think we gave Koko enough credit last year for the mental toughness down a set against Laura Sigman down a set against Alisa Mertens down a set against Arena sabinka but last match that mental toughness against vvar nine Aces saving all the breakpoint opportunities she showed it again today in the second set dishing out a bagel ladies and gentlemen showing patience disciplines speeding ahead with their vertical movement to put away the short balls that Maria gave her and she gave her a ton Koko played well as Maria heads towards the locker room the key here watching this match the second serves Maria could not win a second serve for anything Koko won 89% of Maria serves that's right guys 16 out of 18 simply phenomenal 25 winners to 12 she was aggressive when she needed to be but just like last match 25 unforced eras what does that tell me she's working into her form and look the key for me is Koko just needs to get into the second week if kok gets into the second week I think she defends her Championship successfully however we're going to talk about her next round opponent which is going to be very tough now does anyone know I'm a bit naive here what's up with Nick does he still play or not because I agree with Nadal if he was a little bit more disciplined you know I imagine he will be back right is he retired or or what now I know he's been doing a lot of interviews with Mack androe and he he's got the personality we but I just think his anger on the court he's got to control that anger but nonetheless a lot of mental cultures will say you have to get that anger out and they actually E's coach said that uh previously and a lot of the coaches say you have to let that anger out I do agree but I do feel it's really based on the on the player know some players look at Elena rakina we've seen her snap only a few times for the most part she holds it in very look at Emma Navaro Jessica Pula so I think it does I mean yeah in contrast look at Yen aseno so it does depend on the player some players are good at holding it in some players just don't want to show their hand and let you see them sweat um but I will say ladies and gentlemen this was a very good postmatch interview I think Nick has he's got a second career when he does finally decide to hang it up now he as coko what are you listening to before you come out she said the same song Jaden Smith and look Koko I do I do think she's got to change the music it's been she said it's been the same song for the last few years she's got to change the music up a little bit but Nick asked some pretty good questions he said you know being a top tier former number one ranked doubles player does that help you in these tough situations when you're in a singles match where you find yourself down or you know just on the fence I think it does their decision making when you play doubles doubles is a lot faster than singles and you have to either get good at playing at the net or going down the line you do have to get good with your decision- making as well because if you have an opponent that's you know Long Reach long wingspan and they can put away those volleys you do have to get very smart with your decision making and constructing the point because you can't lead them into just a free winner at the net so I do think playing doubles does help in that at uh in that retrospect but I think it also helps with the slams because you're fresh right you have more time to game plan more time to stay loose more time to really just be on the court and I think when you're going deep in slams you have to have the court time the court hours you have to have the repetitions you know and pigula said it best she plays mixed doubles and doubles in the slams because it's the less time she has to practice and you play how you play in the game if you're playing at game speed that's how you're going to play sometimes when you're practicing it's very tough to kind of emulate that game speed so I agree with pigula playing more during the slams helps her in the singles draw now she also talked about just not putting any pressure on her she talked about just being 20 years old having one slam on her belt and just the potential to win more however no pressure on her because she's already won I do agree with Koko and me personally um I think we've all put a lot of huge expectations on Koko just being the first American to win a slam since Serena retired a lot of players have come after Serena and the reality here is there's no one as big as Koko and therefore she's getting all of that pressure all of that stress from fans that expect her to be Serena 2.0 and the reality is she's not Serena she's not going to be Serena there's only one Serena however I do think once she gets to serve down pack she can have years where she wins two to three slams yeah starting in Australia winning the French Open or Wimbledon winning US Open I do think she can win two to three and maybe even four slams in a year because she's that good and some of you are probably thinking okay good energy you're talking crazy right now no I'm not because kok's been the most consistent player of everyone on tour going back to last year when it comes to Grand Slams she's consistent under the big stage and take a look at Australian Open Davenport said it best that was her chance to win number two 65 against sabinka I just felt her outfit was too tight that look I said it then I do feel she was uncomfortable with the outfit it was too tight but I do agree that was her chance to win number two but listen guys if she gets past fi Alina and I want to talk about fiina that match earlier this year she showed mental toughness winning that second championship in Auckland Fifth and Lena look very dangerous tonight against uh an helina she really did an helina could not buy a shot that's right the defense of fif Alina was very good especially at the net now an helina was struggling from Deep so she went to the drop shot a lot and fif Alina was putting away those short balls I think it's going to be a very interesting matchup if kok plays how she played in the second set if she reduces her double faults if she continues to be aggressive and hit winners I think her speed and athletic ability will give her the edge in those exchanges with fiina but she's going to have to move fiina around she can't go toe totoe and blow for blow with fiina because I just feel that's going to play right into her hands of being a defensive player a long rally player I think she's going to have to get fi Alina on the move and try to hit passing shots when she can that's my personal opinion what do you guys think how far does kok go she gets pass Tatiana Maria with a bagel in the second set tenis in a minute we'll be back
