no playoffs no nothing you come back 2009 what is the feeling in there it always reminded me that the 19997 and 98 well the feeling was we added and we added a lot two top of the rotation guys um we added a big bad at first base and it was just an incredible feeling you felt like it was going to be a special year after a very disappointing year in 2008 and these guys really dedicated themselves to be great okay two guys that came that might looks a little short CeCe sebia AJ Bernette can you come up to the S please come on let's go both you CE by the way it was rumored that he didn't want to come here hated New York he's still here what was the feeling see when you came in here oh it was it was a good feeling uh I was just excited that I wasn't coming alone I remember uh driving AJ to do my press conference we did it together um but I just remember being excited I remember Andy calling me right after I signed and just excited that I was going to be here so uh I think we got to a good start K okay CeCe first game that year so well for you and everybody's going cuz you know what happens in New York yeah I mean first game in Baltimore I think I gave six runs and four Innings um but I just remember you know just trying to get my feet wet just trying to get my my feet under me to make sure that I could have a good season and you know that the first one wasn't a good start okay first first gameing TI with 19 WIS by the way from August on 9 and0 and 11 G 2.04 ER MVP the LCS what you thinking well CeCe was a horse I mean obviously was someone that you could count out 230 Innings during the regular season and I would love to bring Andy up too Andy come here Andy [Music] [Applause] pett so CCE you've had to answer all the questions yet so we're going to let these two answer you can help over 200 Innings AJ 195 Innings and he 37 years old and we went to a thre Man location how' you guys do it well uh I think he called me in the office and said hey I'd like to go to a three-man rotation what do you think and these Two Fellas says heck yeah and I said well let's do it wow so you know you put your mind to it you make little adjustments as far as you're throwing and you got a chance to win a championship and everybody thought was a good idea and I sure in the heck wanted the ball so said let's go [Music] here by the way 17 W wind p i remember here and people are yelling we how did you get that idea uh I started out a long time ago in Flor but it was different here because it's never been done here did you have to ask no I kind of just did um I got everybody number two I think he was on Deck he on four times and I never could so I'm to get you one day something special you know wasn't whisper in the I'm out of the whip don't eat it it's shaving yeah that was one time that was Mr Swiss uh I had whipped cream down there uh boys took care of it always had it in there and one time they didn't I had to buy Swiss and then I just make sure you don't eat it by the way the world is very different without AJ and game two yeah what was your thoughts going we lost game one here we didn't score a lot of runs that first night CC pitched really well we just did score runs what was your thought going into game two all I remember leaving the locker room I had my son in my arms and he was upset that we didn't win the first game and I just remember saying hey I got this um showed up the next day had a concert in right field I was loose and uh everything seemed to clip everything I threw uh me and Jose was just a special night some okay there were a couple other new guys thank you guys thanks guys I remember standing in the clubhouse one day and this guy walked in and he was laughing and yelling and somebody been sitting there said to me is this guy for real and I said I think he is P your come up [Applause] [Music] here day let's go all right first year you come over they brought you over Possibly play right field field to a really good but was it hard for you at times you had 29 homers 80 something RV hit like did you think I was crazy I mean all you got to do is look these gentlemen behind me and I'll hit a gladly 100% just the fact that I was blessed enough to put the Yankee uniform on WI a World Series here man I'll never forget those days he was always like this and he walked in here and he had no job Mar to Sher the first days say your name wasn't right I do remember the pitching performance though oh yeah I mean at that point when you start on the bench for the New York anes you just got to be ready for anytime your name gets called and I got my game game three in Baltimore and then from there the rest is history was that inning that you pitched 2009 the highlight of your career oh yeah I definitely remind gap of that once a month you know just to remember how I struck him out you know what was it feeling like won that finally champ I think listen I think when you take a group of individuals come from all over the world all different walks of life and the fact that you can come together as a team to win a championship to have a common goal it was a blessing for all of us and all of you guys that are Yankee fans you know how amazing this place is 27 time World Series champions we're going to bring one home to you real soon GE come on [Music] okay thanks forting here I know he had some flight issues yesterday we love it five Championship Geor 38 years oh in 2009 right just an incredible year you had big hits big home runs you and Matt going back to back big RBI s what did that World Series mean to you that year uh a lot because uh obviously we were coming to this Stadium um and we were I was getting older obviously and uh just a lot very meaningful just the way we got together as a as a team and we we did it with the best people in the world and obviously the best city in the world and best fans in the world obviously you know you guys have done that 13 years before what was the difference from 96 it's a long time later yeah he you're talking about the guys that were able to be there that year um and got a chance to do it again but the the key pieces that we that was signed those that year made us you know win that 09 one of the people that was there thank you Georgie Johnny Damon you here come on come on up here left fielder Johnny Dam okay first kit in the new stum right here this guy yeah that's right what was it like for you before we get to Philadelphia and the hit off of Brad L and stealing second and stealing third what was it like for you coming over here oh it was fantastic I you guys remember me hitting home runs against your team and we won a World Series up North but it was so great to join this team David Wells told me if you ever had the chance to put on the pen Stripes do so and I did and I loved it and I love playing for Joe yeah Joe was absolutely amazing like the best manager in baseball and how do you not have a job right now you're the best I do I'm a broadcaster Johnny it's a good job hey I want to ask you last night you gave a heartfelt speech and I don't want to embarrass you but I thought it was fantastic could you just quickly we have so much time touch on a few of the points you made about family and kindness and your teammates yeah well when Joe came here he made sure that our kids can hang out uh winning or losing the game does not dictate how you treat your family and I have a big family I have eight kids and I love it and uh Joe gerardy was absolutely amazing and I wanted to keep playing for the Yankees and and keep on winning because I did my best to bring the CC's the ajs to this team I'm a great recruiter and people love me and I love everybody and that's why this team was unbelievable oh yeah and Alex I've known Alex since we were kids and this guy he showed up he was the absolute best in the playoffs and that's a big reason why we got to the World Series and we were able to win and everybody here I mean G amazing you got Mo you got you got Godzilla yeah yeah yeah and like the whole team Molina AJ everybody team on have and what Joe Tor brought to this team right before and what the tradition of winning C bring your A game every single day and that's exactly what we did thank you Johnny okay Francisco Sur where are you serving come on over here are over there that's good okay so Sur comes up when both pada and Molina go down you were hitting 190 in a you come up you save this teame in Atlanta talk about Atlanta yeah well cash made a trip to Atlanta so I knew that we were in a little trouble boys um and he had to talk to the team about how good they were and it would get back on track but sery came up with a game-winning our that was huge and we really took off after that sery talk about your time coming up is such a young player of playing such an important role well um I was a very privileged man I was in dou a hitting nothing uh I came up here and I say I'm not going back to minor leagues again in my life um and mosal got hurt Molina got hurt I was here by myself nervous uh first game I got CeCe complete game and after that was different everything was different this guys teach me how to play baseball how to play baseball the High way how to win and how to enjoy this game by the way when we got to Atlanta they lost five of six five games back then went 13 and two after that trip to Atlanta you got I did um I thinky was called out at first base and Bill wel was the Umpire and I walked out the bill and started arguing with him and he was like Joe I'm not going to throw you out and I told him I wouldn't leave until he threw me out stood there kept arguing and finally threw me out and that's when these guys took over they were unbelievable after that Ser you such a great job that thank you so much hey Alex good turn Alex come on Alex yeah [Music] you okay so Alex is hurt he's got a hit today doesn't go to spring training comes up first pitching hits boom I turn to John and said I guess you don't need Spring train he he obviously did a three-run homer and we ended up winning that game and was so great to give you line but I want to ask you about the postseason what's it like to feel like you're in the zone for that long you mean for the month of October yeah it was awesome I mean I think you're right Susan I think uh when I got back uh you know CC threw a complete game shut out we won 3-0 and I think from that day on we went 90 and 40 and it was just amazing to go with that type of momentum and Rhythm into the playoffs and then when you have a lineup like this SK you put out the same line up every single day and we were with like brothers and having matui behind me text in front of him and then je and Johnny Damon to hit Cleanup in a lineup like that as a dream come true so team effort and I was glad to be a part of there you know 30 home runs in 5 months 100 RB walk off in the 15th inning in Boston we don't get out of without this guy right here the way you got Joe Nathan that day in game two you getting for a two run Homer in the n and it just propelled you the rest of the postseason you were fantastic and we're all grateful for you I want to change subjects a little bit because I walked out in the parking lot one night I can't remember what year it was and you and Luke Pella are in the parking lot doing batting S as you are an awful SL what did luk mean to you Lou is uh the greatest of all time first of all he should be in the Hall of Fame blue is like a father figure to me much ways like Joe Tori is a father figure to our four stars our icons you know Jeter P Mo bada Bernie that's the type of relationship that I have with Lou he taught me everything about the game of baseball incredible gratitude to have such an incredible person and a man uh you know teach you and I love him and there should be more L pellas you know I wanted to bring up L Vanella CU once a Yankee always a Yankee does everybody know here that Tino Martinez is here because Luke panel made sure he got trained to the Yan thank you thanks Alex hey deaso deaso Mar he over there come on hey G you with yes go stand next to okay but I want up there 2009 right you had a click you had a c you tell I got a C he said what's that mean in my should still know you miss most of the Season you were there April and you out May June July BL AUST September right and October ped a little bit in the first series a little bit more in the second series but you were really an unsung hero in the World Series you dominated Uley aan and Howard I want to know uh first of all thank you to the fans and the off of the New York Yankees to all the Yankees and all my teammates [Music] I um I had a click in my shoulder but they still believing in me uh I made it through and everyone believ and I was there at the m one of the greatest all time how many times did you rub that shoulder Gino how many times did I do what rub that shoulder I'm not sure how many times I rubbed his shoulder cuz we rubbed a lot of shoulders you know folks people ask me all the time what is the difference between all those years and right now they're wonderful right now they are really good and a tremendous team and a good bunch of fellas and I will say this all we ever did under Joe Tori and all these other great managers and captains that we had all we did was win and Winning is Everything and you people know that they asked me what they asked me who my favorite player was nobody was allowed to have a favorite they're all my favorites and I know there are yours too thank you okay we got five minutes left last year Kevin was here and the guys came out and he said boy they look like freaking movie guys still do mariana rivera Derek cheer pada Andy P one more time up here [Applause] please you guys we have to get come on [Applause] the I got a question for when you signed here did you ever imagine that it would be as good as it was in 2009 yeah everyone understand [Music] Japanese 2009 [Music] [Music] I but it's just really a dream come true to be able to accomplish that in my last year with the [Music] [Applause] Y which one of you is P's dad which one we use okay [Music] lotan was or the [Music] RBI or RBI oh definitely you transl he translate for me uh I definitely think was the RBI for sure I mean I want definitely thebi hey you guys Mar what was the difference this was your kind of last one that you got together you had done you were kids in 1996 what was the difference for all you old now so 50 not now the difference between 96 and 2009 doing it as a kid doing it as an adult I think well the differ was 96 I was 26 2009 was maybe 46 I mean it was the same because I one were serious so it didn't matter if were 96 or 2009 the point we br Championship B where it belongs that was the I have no idea what Mariano just said but I'd say in 96 We Were Young we're experiencing everything for the first time we start to get to 2009 there was an expectation level with this organization every year it doesn't make a difference what you do during 162 game schedule it all boils down to the world seriesn champion ship or the season of failure and I think we felt that more as we got into the later years especially in 09 well we have game to play and I've got to wrap this up I thank you so much for all being here than everybody [Applause] Len Jack curry with you and Jack as always a great celebration and some great memories of that 2009 Championship season so many cool stories and we get the chance to listen to these players talk about their careers but I also love hearing the players talk about each other and how their camaraderie and their chemistry meant so much to them predictably Derek Jeter got the biggest Ovation of anyone everyone was waiting for the Captain to amble onto the field and I love what Jeter said at the end of the ceremony right there Bob about how there was an expectation you were on the Yankees they were expecting to win an 09 and they did you know I think it's also a great the Yankees do this so great not only older day today but crating a championship team and sort of connecting it to again is it symmetry 15 years that's a good round number right but then they look ahead to the 2024 team and of the Common Thread that could stretch from that Championship to perhaps another championship I asked Aaron boom before the game what would you like your players to take away from interacting with the 09 team and he talked about that 09 team had a championship pedigree those guys are walking around with rings so even if it's one nugget Bob even if it's one thing about mental strength Bo was hoping that the 24 team soaks up everything that that 209 was about well we thank you for joining us a big afternoon in the Bronx and it features a celebration of the 2009 World Series champs who drove their way to a 27th World Series championship in that memorable season 15 years ago the for 28 begins with a 2024 glad you're with us live at Yankee stadi on The Bob Jack Curry and with you a lot to talk about as we trans from old day in the cbra of 2009 to Once ahead in 2024 as we get H opening com Jack second game against the Rockies Yankees get a win last night about five weeks left in the regular season to get where they want to go and it's up to these 2024 Yankees to make sure that this fun and festive weekend continues no one can do a day like the Yankees did today they've got the 27 world champions you mentioned they want to get 28 40 pennants more than 50 players affiliated with the are in the Hall of Fame when we talk about today Bob it's about let the good times roll the Colorado Rockies are in town this is a team that is on Pace to lose more than 100 games if you're the Yankees don't let them disrupt this wonderful weekend go out there win the games you're supposed to win meanwhile Meredith has brought the clubhouse out here cuz it's time for the clubhouse report brought to you by your local Ford stores and let's start with the lineup today and of course you can't picture Aon judge not in there he is tell us about that every fan can rest easy Aaron judge is in the lineup but when it comes to Aaron judge little bit of a half for him he's going to DH this afternoon so that means John Carlos Stanton is going to be coming off the bench he's available Off the Bench I asked Aon Moon about it and he simply said look we're in a stretch of nine in a row we're not going to play Stanton every day look at the match up today there's lefties coming up he's going to want them in there so he decided this was the best day to give Stanton the day off and has Aaron judge dhing but when you look at what Aaron judge is doing right now I mean there AR of we talked about it the other day he's just been absolutely incredible four home runs his last four games seven out of his last eight 49 on the season and just talking to some of those guys that have been to the promised land before like Derek Jeter they try to wrap their head around it as well and they simply call it ridiculous it's kind of see kind of nice to see them in awe a little bit too Jack I think CC saath gave the best answer just walk them because that is really where we are right now 45 homers in his last 100 and Merith though I promised you the other in the stud I am running out of and it's funny I talk to Mar look he is as good as they get in the postseason the greatest cler of all time can he your cut go oh yeah just being but it was funny honestly think he was being honest do about anything right now let's transition to the injury report we had gra guest 14 guys at Somerset that's a bit of exaggeration Five Guys though there some guys back what you got five guys in a whole yes production crew in detailing all it just kid was on the last night said he came through that okay so they going to be discussions now how do they want to continue to build up Clark Schmid do they want him to get another rehab game or are they going to build him up at the major league level obviously a lot of that depends on how things are going up here what the needs are if they can continue to have him pitch down there and build up that's a good thing now we also know DJ lameu was in the starting lineup yesterday he was a late scratch it was in an interesting situation during batting practice he was taking grounders at first base a ball came out of nowhere and hit him uh he is okay he went through concussion protocol last night Aaron Bo said he wasn't going to be in today's lineup anyway it was going to be Ben rice in today's lineup but it seems as though DJ is improving and could be an option Off the Bench guys one of the best ways to watch old day is Through The Eyes of someone who has never seen it before you had the chance to talk to Ben rice this is the first he's seen this as a Yankee player what were his thoughts I caught up with him quickly in the clubhouse he was already starting his stretching program getting himself Ready for today's game and I said are you excited about today and he said yes I'm extremely excited about today I can't wait to see some of the former guys and I said is there anyone in particular that you want to see and it was funny he just looked at me and said any of them I want to talk to any of them any and everyone I want to have the opportunity uh just to talk to some of those guys that have won championships and clearly had success here in the Bron it's a definitely is a special day thank you we're going to see you in just a little bit with Michael and Paul before we go to break want to take a look at the lineups for both of the teams this afternoon we'll start with a rocky lineup brought to you by Toyota one guy to keep an eye on they kept him pretty quiet last night Brandon Rogers in the month of August one of the national League's top H with a 338 average 11 runs B in and 12 RS score as for the Yankees their lineup brought to you by Toyota again you keep an eye on judge over his last 100 378 hitter 45 homers 106 R in unprecedented in major league history time for our first break on the fu Yankees pregame when we
