okay we are uh live Chad Brown chuckle at pain kill you a truth what up Chad good to see him my man good to see you as well man just had a dmac kind of day oh how's that well you know how you do your podcast and then you have your your day job on the radio station yeah yeah what do you got I just did my four hours of ESPN radio so oh good for you who you on with uh I was on the uh Harry and Freddy show those guys are all today Freddy did the morning show so I fill an in for them okay with who uh Ken Ken Ken just Ken Ken first time working with Ken don't have I never said his last name on air you on the here with four hours on National radio you don't know the guy's last name Ken he's eight he's just Ken it's like the movie he's just Ken Ken was great Ken was great that's good where where's Ken from do you know Ken was broadcasting from South Florida I did know that because it was hot and humid he said okay well good for him um well that's that's what the day is like you do this and then you do that and you just sit there and you just talk talk talk Ken laa Ken laa oh the the Ken laa the that that the the Ken L him yeah I've never heard of him but U Listen by the way uh why don't you get me one of why don't we just do that like why don't we just uh do the fill in on the ESPN there Chad what's uh huh what about your boy huh I will work on that I will work on that okay on all right I don't know I mean I can't do every shift in the world like in the middle but I can do something okay what whatever don't do me any F don't do me any favors I will tell you I'm on the road today too um I didn't say you were on the road actually but I am on the road as you can tell by my uh background I'm in some sort of conference room in some sort of hotel in Lafayette or Superior uh I don't know I'm actually not sure where the [ __ ] I am uh but my uh my my sister-in-law's boyfriend has a play that he's in oh and uh and he wrote it and he's the star of it okay so you're showing support I'm showing Chad look at me I am showing support I can tell you got dressed up for the occasion too I did bring a hoodie uh but it's a Chad it's a play in Superior I think I'm gonna be all right on my way to Boulder all right um I'm trying to figure out what to get to First here so let me you know what let me just go through the Broncos real quick and then we'll get to this Sean Keeler Deion Sanders story okay okay did you guys talk about this on ESPN or not we did oh okay wow all right well we'll get there in just a second um because some people come here for Broncos news that's is significant too on National radio here today the Broncos did announce that Jared sdam will start he'll go eight to 12 snaps we'll just feel whatever is you know viby and then um Wilson will play out the rest of the game so Wilson's going to likely get three plus quarters of action Chad uh I would assume B knck of course is with the ones this is another reason why Shawn Payton had to make this announcement you couldn't put this off any longer right and this makes sense too so it all it all makes sense I'm I'm down with everything so I will assume too the rest of the offensive line uh won't start and and I I I think the only starters that will play will be guys like Brandon Jones who just hasn't played much football and just needs a few reps because he's been injured or some other cases like that other than that I think most of the guys out there all the guys out there will be in pretty competitive situations is that your interpretation as well or what's your take on that that is my interpretation as well I think Shawn Peyton would still like to get Bo Nicks reps but then that would necessitate having the whole starting offense get reps you're not going to put bonck out there behind the second offensive line you're not going to put them out there with second string receivers so you know Bo Knicks gets to have this veteran privilege so to speak uh because of that situation but I think if it were right right if this were game two instead of game three and the rest of the starters were out there Bo Knicks would be playing he's not in some privilege keep him in bubble wrap Aaron R position kind of thing it's just more so based on I can't play him because and then I got to play everybody else okay so we're all good with that right this is a good plan uh that's fine and by the way I knew I was some people were pointing out I had audio problems just let me know if it's okay we have a weird thing here sometimes Chad where it's one it sounds fine to me but it's not fine it probably sounds fine to you too I think it's probably sounds fine to you it does I did make a little bit of a change so if everybody the comments are great though the people know better than me so if there if there's still an issue let me know but I think I fixed it and I should have checked it the right way first my bad okay um all good thank you Deanna you're the best thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you okay this Sean Keeler Prime story now um I will tell everybody that it is on the head it broke around 130 or so mountain time um it uh is now one of the lead stories on espn.com which means this story Chad will become a national story it will it will grow quickly beyond the local scope and this is going to paint Dion Sanders in what kind of light in your opinion you know what I should back up just a pinch just real quick sorry sorry sorry my bad CU has decided to ban Shan Keeler from asking questions it didn't say they were going to ban him from going to press conferences in the game just from asking questions because of personal attacks primarily on Dion Sanders and then they gave a a bunch of examples that is the quick elevator pitch of that story Chad is there anything else you want to elaborate in terms of details with that story uh this is not the first time coach Prime has banned somebody banned somebody at Jackson State from asking questions coach Prime is the only CU coach with a media clause in his contract that he doesn't have to talk to Media people certain people media people if he doesn't want to Carl derell didn't have that uh J.R Payne the women's Coach doesn't have that I don't believe the men's basketball coach doesn't have that so he created this thing because this is a thing you wouldn't put this in your contract if it wasn't a thing that you do so there's a little background information on that as well okay uh wow all right news to me did not know he banned somebody else in Jackson at Jackson State um and I and I didn't know well I found I read the story about the clause and the contract but didn't know that ahead of time either okay so so so Keeler hasn't had his credential pulled and if if you got understand this if you don't know the Denver Post is by far the biggest newspaper in Colorado it's not even close um in the day and age of newspapers fading away the post has survived and Keeler along with Troy rank are the two colonists Mark kizla no longer works The Denver Post neither does Woody page the two columnists not beat writers not beat writers columnists are Sean Keeler and Troy rank that's it so I've never heard of something like this that is news to me that that happened at Jackson State yeah again you know as far as the national perception you know there's going to be folks who are you know Dion and all this the media is ridiculous and there's going to be folks who you know already had feelings about Dion are going to feel the same way I don't think this changed just the needle for many folks you know um I still wish the Buff's tremendous success but I think he continues to show himself to be thin skinned in these interactions with the media and this goes back to when he was a player when he was a baseball player and he threw water on Tim mver in the locker room certain bullying aspect to his interactions with the media that I find person distasteful I uh I have I have had a good time in my own mind separating Dion from CU I've I've effectively done that so sco Buffs right the whole thing and uh I hope they win and I'm rooting for the Buffs Dion ate my cup of tea don't know how else to put it and this is so thin skinned it's I thought I really did think Prime was a lot tougher than this this this is about as soft as you get and and I really don't understand why Prime has just not invited Sean Keeler up to his office or go out to lunch and just talk a little bit seriously and and I just want people out there to know Chad we're not talking about a 100 media members out to get Dion It's not like that at all Chad it's one guy it's one guy and if you forget the interaction um I'm happy to to remind you about it and this is kind of how it went the other day with Sean ke coach Sean Keeler The Denver Post happy summer my man you you don't like us man why do you do this to yourself come on you don't like us Mark likes me by the way yeah yeah Mark Mark said he likes me so you don't why do you do this though no no sorry two-parter if I could no I'm serious why do you do this like you know you don't like why do you do this no no no it's not about that football question football question why do you do like it would be hard for me to really engage in someone I don't like or something I don't like I'm just asking why like why got got to pay what did I do you didn't do anything it's not about that but this is a football question why I'm asking you why yeah you can ask but that that's not cuz you want me to answer you so yeah okay that's right that's fair why why because I have questions why what what what's your why what do you want to know why do you you always on attack like what did we do where am I where where am I on attack today where am I on attack yeah I'm going I'm not going to give you opportuni to be on attack but I'm asking you why like what does it do for you like what happened it's not it's not about me but what happened to get you like this it's a good question no I'm serious cuz I want to help like no I'm serious I want to help because it's not normal we can talk about that we can talk about that okay can I ask you a football question seriously no we talk about that when we talk about that I talk about that with you can we ask you a football question please when I talk about that we talk about that we can talk about that I have a question over here let's go your birthday man it's tough to watch it's tough to watch man like I I get it he insulted you like I mean but but to me like bowling comes from a position of power down you know what I'm saying not and Sean writes for The Denver Post and like okay it's got a certain amount of power but not like Prime I mean give me a break uh and I just I don't get it I really don't get why it's so thin skin chat I don't get I I I don't get it either um you know I'm certainly not going to put him on the analyst couch and therapist couch and psychoanalyze him from from my room here in Cherry Creek um but there's certainly something there and this is again again this is not the first time um there were certainly contentious things when he was a player um and you would think as a member of the media he would certainly understand some of this and and the fact that they're upset with quote unquote personal attacks yeah you know you certainly had some personal attacks with players on your football team that you called out uh your son called players left the program I don't even remember him he must have been mid like a mid-level player that's a personal attack so certainly personal attacks have been happening a bit around the program yet somehow this one's a step too far I I I just don't get it and as I said initially when all this news came out I'm not sure how this makes him look better how this helps the organization or the football program look better the university look better and it certainly doesn't help them win any football games and that should be your goals first as the head coach so if you are getting away from that then it feels like well you don't want your players to take things personal when someone provides some criticism then you do as a grown man and you start Banning people it just doesn't stack up or add up to a true leader what a true leader does in these situations all right so we have the Athlon story which was pretty shoddy journalism I'll give you that I I dug into that and that wasn't like although I I still like did Shiloh slap the crap out of Corman mlan if he didn't he didn't if you know did Jordan Sean have to fight somebody I mean these are pretty wild accusations uh all right okay cool then we have this I'm still trying to get over this Saudi Arabia a Mormon nil thing Would Trevor the uh the special teams coach uh that is no longer with the program and all that comes out and then we get the double whammy with this seems like so like bizarrely unnecessary uh and and now it hey man this will be consumed as a national story chat everybody's gonna be talking about this everybody's gonna be talking about this so uh and again most people don't have any sympathy for the media and I I don't necessarily expect it here but I'm I I know I'm going to be disappointed by some of our brethren in the media that will blindly just go and support um Prime for doing this without any kind of acknowledgement whatsoever this is just not a great thing for the media in general to have these ambiguous banss for Access meaning that you know you have one guy who's so powerful that he can just stop people from covering a team fairly the funny part about that is people don't want to bury Dion not really Chad People Want To Praise see you we want good things to happen to see you I do at least and it's one dude like you can't you can't just sort of live with one guy it's not like Dion Sanders Chad goes to a press conference and there's nine people lining up like Bam Bam Bam we have seen that more or less with the Broncos I mean think about what Nathaniel hacket went through before he got fired or any of these coaches Carl derell um who was the old athletic director there of Cu uh before Rick Geor Mike Mike bone look at what he took uh uh um uh not not Rick nisle um uh oh my gosh Gary G ett coach Barnett yeah I mean dude I mean those guys got lamb based with questions and opinions and sort of stuff throughout the years am I wrong no you're you're not wrong and even these headlines and these terms that you know CU is now pushing back against um you know Keeler Sean Keeler Deion Sanders is a false prophet okay while that may be biting in a in a term as a guy who likes to throw God into his calling and as a football coach so the profit fits there and within that article he's talking about Coach Prime was talking about college football playoffs you were 48 last year so that would in religious terms be a false prophet so while Tom keeler's phrasing may be pointed and may feel like a jab there's certainly some truthfulness to these things um the crazy thing about this too I love the examples if you got more examples please bring them I just want to point out that I I just this all seems to be so much about prime rather than the team it seems so individual like I'm upset about what you're saying about me um and it's a personal attack against me it's not like Sean keeler's ripping the team or anything and frankly I don't know man I just you know what man I just don't get it I don't get it as a person who's in Prime's position in life and the power he has and the money he makes and just everything he has everything that you're this thin skin about all writer from a newspaper I don't care where it's at I I'm blown away that Prime is really honest to God bothered by any of it I seriously am I don't get it I don't why you would allow this to get under your skin and then people to go back and read the articles and see that Sean's actually while it's pointed and it may feel personal there's a lot of truth to this you can't be coach Prime and say you want more privacy yet you have film Crews follow you everywhere you go so there's a certain disingenuousness that Sean you know keelers is fairly pointing out here and again I want the bus to win if they win then Prime gets to Rebel in the glory of all his predictions and pronostics about how awesome they're going to be hopefully that becomes the case I agree but but when you have the things that you said last year and the record that you had last year when you can't marry the two together and it's fair for someone to find some critical points to point out to their readers or their listeners or their viewers this is how the media works and for someone who was involved in the media for as long as he was to now basically mandate that the media only bow down to you it's it's a ridiculous standard a ridiculous notion to put people through and are these press conferences only going to be SLE fans from now on is it's any critical question now banned from this other reporters in the room gonna look at the reporter who asked a critical question in a crazy way I I I don't understand what the goal is and again the goal of the football coach is to win games this doesn't help you win games to put himself in the football team and the university in a positive light this doesn't do that either so these are all counter to what your goal should be as a football coach yeah it just feels so weird after such a positive start last year where literally the entire country was rooting for CU to really put on that villain's hat and uh have this us against them mentality in in basically less than a year it's um okay uh it's weird I hope they beat the crap out of North Dakota State and CSU I don't know I'll stay neutral in that one man seriously um because I'm not I am not going to root against Colorado State against see I'm just gonna whatever on that one um Nebraska I hope they kill Nebraska and I hope they have success in the big uh the the Big 12 I do I hope they make a bowl and all that um but I'm I'm separating how I feel about I'm I'm separating Prime from CU because he's he's he's trying to be this oneman unit and I I just I to me it's more about the team hey I hope shadur has an awesome year I hope he's the top pick in the draft I hope him or Travis Hunter wins the Heisman I hope Shiloh gets drafted High I hope Jordan seedan is a world class offensive lineman um I I hope uh Charlie Linder ball yes I hope he continues his Rudy esque story to success and I and I know there's a other incredibly talented young men out there and I hope they're they're they're amazing but I I want to say that I just for the record I think this is absurd and completely unnecessary and this is all about Prime and it is really wild to see any program anything be about one dude who's the coach more than the team so I'll just uh that I'll leave it there I suppose unless you have anything else to say we can move on but it's um it's crazy man I typed in Denver Post Sean Keeler a Reddit thread has come up with literally what has to be at this point at least hundreds and hundreds maybe even thousands of replies here can't believe this dude is so thin skinned um he wants a circle jerk for a press conference this guyy a straight up [ __ ] I mean and it's just it gets worse and worse and worse there's very few Dion Defenders here um and I don't want to dive into it because I'm not trying to pile on the guy but this is the opinion of the folks who are online on Reddit and this is what they're seeing and thinking um so you got your take I've got my take these people on Reddit have their take you know again various very few people who are seeing the positive in this and again it's the head coach you want to do things that help this does not help the program the university the team himself I will tell you this Prime is about to get more criticism and CU is about to get more criticism for this than anything else they've done period the end uh I I know how the media works there will be a lot of people stepping up to defend sha there'll be a few siop Fant media people that will say it's the right thing to do but they won't have much support that that number will will be very very small compared to um the amount of people that will actually defend the Denver Post and Sean Keeler it's about to be overwhelming in that direction uh because nobody was really paying attention to Prime yelling at Sean ker the other day I mean it made a slight blip on on the radar but Chad that ha coaches blowing up on media members literally happens all the time all the time it's it's it's a fun audio clip but that's it it's not really a story this is a story you created this story CU you created the story Prime where story didn't need to happen seriously it didn't and if you just went and had a cup of coffee with Sean Keeler perhaps there's some sort of you know Kumbaya moment you could have had and um but whatever man whatever so best of luck to see you um it'll be fascinating who defends this move you'll know it'll be quick to know Chad like who's where and who's what and I agree with you with the next I doubt anybody ask Prime about this at the next press conference I'll be stunned it'll you know what it'll take it'll take somebody like Troy rank who also works for the Denver Post it'll take Mark kizla a more seasoned guy or Woody pagee um you know guys that are more sort of in that realm to go up there and legitimately ask Prime the next time it's around why did you do this what are we allowed to ask you and what can't we ask you what opinion am I allowed to have to be able to cover you and ask you questions coach let me know what is it that's what I would ask I I would say I've never seen anything like this so please let me know as I'm trying to learn what can I ask you and what am I allowed to not ask you what opinions am I allowed to have about you and what opinions am I not allowed to have about you what are they coach can you make it clear for all of us and you know see what he says yeah well but I doubt anybody's gonna say that I doubt I doubt anything like that will happen yeah that's that's not gonna happen that's that's that's a bit of a fantasy world but ah man anyways yeah uh it doesn't it doesn't take away for how much we're rooting for CU to win we days away from the see you open let's go let's beat North Dakota when you have the opportunity to you know write the wrongs of last season fix the offensive line change the narrative about the program change change the doubters into Believers get another opportunity St up in a press conference and ask people if they believe now all that stuff but meanwhile you've created just Firestorm around your program to what end and I know some folks think all media attention is good attention this is not this this is not what Rick George wants uh I know Phil D Stefano's no longer Chancellor up there but this is not what he wanted when he was Chancellor of the university university president doesn't want this no one wants this they want you to win football games and put the university in a good light this doesn't do it so to your point what are you trying to do here what what's this line you're trying to get people to tow to um and what's acceptable and and what's not I know for fans this does not seem to be acceptable I know for fans 4- eight is not acceptable I know to go one and seven over the last games is not acceptable to be out coached that's not acceptable to make mistakes that cost football games is not acceptable to lose a 28 or 35o lead that is not acceptable there are certainly things that on our side as the CU fans that are not acceptable so you tell us your line we'll tell you we our line and maybe we can meet in the middle someplace well said Chad we'll leave it there more eloquent than I a million times over I will tell you you know I said the other day on Wednesday night uh a friend a high school friend of mine her daughter is uh they're from Maine now they they grew up in Massachusetts they moved to Maine her daughter is a freshman we went to meet them had dinner at the sink dinner and drink at the sink pretty cool place not a good place for you because you're tall and the ceiling is very low there so probably not for me it's like I'm billbo Baggins it's at the tavern it's fantastic I'm at the Shire I mean I freaking loved it um but it was really really cool to be there it was like the day that freshmen were moving in like the kids are coming back and there was just a Vibe and a uh energy at cuu that just can't be beat there really is nothing like that energy and excitement when school comes back um in in the fall especially and it it was awesome it was really awesome and she's living in kitridge Hall which apparently is right near uh fulam field and you know everybody's all excited about everything and then they asked me at dinner they go what what's what's the deal with Prime and I just I just I just I I can't explain to somebody in like you know five minutes all of this stuff so I said you know what enjoy the ride it should be a lot of fun um and they they had missed a deadline check this out they had missed a deadline for buying student tickets um so they they did not have tickets for their daughter although they were willing to buy tickets as they come and I said well listen as long as you can find a ticket you can just sit in the student section that's that's not going to be a problem but this is what's happened here Chad the tickets are sold out the excitement is off the charts uh all of that is true the enrollment is up it is harder and harder to get into CU by the way did you know what out ofate tuition is for CU these days do you know what it is in State's roughly 30 so my guess would be 60 62 brother 60 30 6 in state 62 out of state 62 to go to see you and and they're from Maine did I mention there for Maine and so cu's having that kind of you know because it is a great place it is amazing but what the all right pal you know it's the weekend we should really just relax I should go to a play should I should I use this time to point out that next week starts to see you podcast with me Charles Johnson that's gonna debut next week right here on kill you with truth and other platforms as well we're going to try to get it out to as many places as you can listen man I think a podcast about CU and with you and CJ is g to be phenomenal absolutely phenomenal um to CU Legends um I I I think it's a great time to point that out because uh to think that you and CJ want anything but the best for CU is preposterous I mean it's ridiculous you and CJ your whole lives have centered around CU not only as players in the most successful period ever the most successful and 130 whatever years the most successful time ever was your time with CJ and Alfred and canavis and all those guys you know the most successful um and it it Remains the center of your lives now as you know CJ's from Michigan you're from California you both have made your lives here CJ's kids are like these Ivy leag kids so I mean they didn't go to see you not that CU is bad but your kid not to insult your kids either because I'd love for my kid to go to see you right um but but your kids have CU connections as well so if anybody is going to have a fair int ENT nuanced um e expertise on CU I can't think of anybody better than you and CJ and I'll I'll stay absolutely out of it yeah so looking forward to it obviously we're going to talk on the field um but we're also going to examine the coach Prime effect and what that is and what it means to various people there's you know people who love CU you who would never wear a coach Prime shirt there's people who you know don't know anything about CU you but wear coach Prime shirts where is that coming from what's the motivation what's driving these people what's their connection to all this and you know there'll be a bit of a and there's a little bit of a racial component to this so there's some sensitivity around all this stuff so it's gonna be some fascinating conversations I'm really looking forward to it um and we agreed to do this before all this hoopla had started um so now there's even more uh to to discuss and while I was hoping to keep these podcasts you know 30 minutes or less I think this first one's got to be at least a two-parter just to kind of cover the team the preview of the season the new players the transfers what we expect from Travis and shador oh my God but also what is this coach Prime thing and what's what's he doing and how is it landing on people you know when I travel around I ask people these questions people ask me questions CJ does the same thing CJ's one of his favorite things is to wear CU gear when he travels so we can have conversations about CU in the last two years all those conversations have been about Coach Prime so we've got lots of outside opinions to relate in our podcast coming up next week dude I'm so looking forward to it and and they're asking uh will your podcast be on YouTube hell yeah it will be and and we're GNA just find as many platforms as we can to put it on but certainly it'll be on this platform so if you're already linked
