2024 PGCPS Summer Commencement Ceremony - PM

good afternoon ladies and gentlemen may I have your attention please my name is Wayne ler seron learning program administrator we are here today for the annual commencement program we are almost ready to begin the processional but before we do I would like to take this opportunity to solicit the cooperation of our audience during today's program we have worked very hard with our graduates to convey to them the dignity that a commencement program should have I think you will see the fruits of our labor in a minute we are soliciting the cooperation of our audience with today's program to keep unnecessary noise to a minimum throughout the ceremony we especially ask that there will be no noise makers whistling or screaming when our students are presented noise makers in the form of air horns are strictly prohibited anyone using a air horn will be asked to leave the arena in addition please refrain from standing a professional a professional photographer will photograph each graduate as he or she receives a diploma these pictures will be made available to you thank you for your cooperation in this matter we have we appreciate your help in bringing dignity to this commencement and chief Master Sergeant James L Nickerson as well as the singing of our national anthem by Miss K kaana Padre raising Senor Rising senior at Oxen Hill High School those wearing hair gear please remove your caps oh say can you see by the dawn's early light what so proudly we at the Twilight last gleaming who spr stripes and bright stars through the paral fight or the ramps we watch were so gallantly streaming and the rockets R glare the bombs burst in an air G move through the night that our flag was still there oh who say does that star Spang go B yet where for the land and of the free afternoon everybody um as you can see I am not uh carleto um I'm Darnell Henderson I'm the general counsel for Prince Georgia County Public Schools uh and I'm I'm here on behalf of superintendent Millard House II uh but before we get started let's take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to all the moms dads grandpas grandmas Tios tias and everyone that helped us uh make today possible and that also includes our administrative staff our principls vice principles all of those who spent their summer supporting our graduates to make it to this Day family friends Educators and staff and most importantly the class of 2024 it is my honor to stand before you today as we celebrate this Milestone today you join 8,000 graduates across our high schools charter schools and non-traditional programs this includes 700 graduates who completed their Journey this summer as We Gather today to celebrate your high school graduation we were reminded of the journey that brought us to this momentous occasion you began your high school career during a time of uncertainty and challenge facing a world reeling from a global pandemic you adapted to Virtual learning navigating your educational Journey with resilience and determination you learned how to share your screen some of us are still learning how to share our screens uh but more importantly you learned how to share your strength your persever an and your kindness the crisis we've all experienced has given us a unique perspective forcing us to look at a world that is that can be upside down and inside out it has challenged us to question what we value and what is truly matters in this life and sometimes let go of our preconceived notions uh and adapt to a life that unfolds before us as you stand on the threshold of a new world with Endless Possibilities remember challenges will come you will get knocked down but what truly matters is the strength that you have and the resilience that you show to dust yourself off and to stand up again as you graduate today carry with you the lessons learned the friendships made and the memories created during your time in Prince Georges county public schools embrace the challenges that lie ahead of you with courage determination and belief in yourself and may your future be filled with success happiness and Endless Possibilities congratulations class of you all may have got caught in that rain but you are here today you are the class that can never be outdone the amount of resilience determination strength and maturity that you displayed while experiencing a global pandemic and in a manner that mentally physically and emotionally challenged you at levels unimaginable is nothing less than remarkable and inspiring despite these circumstances you are here today to receive your high school diploma I proudly speak on behalf of every adult in this room when I say that each and every single one of you is destined for greatness and success beyond measure woo yes and so our challenge to you is to ensure that you continue with the will to succeed and knock down anything life tries to throw at you that will take you off your course you have defied the odds just to be here today which means you have the tools and the mindset to accomplish your goals and to live your dreams no excuses you just do it so now for the exciting part Dr
