only mean great things and getting them back and using some of that depth to be able to run through the American League West and try and grab another title Berlin are making two rehab starts August 10th with triaa Sugarland and August 15th with dou a Corpus Christie on the road this ball hits sharply and passed Yer Diaz into right field jiren Duran on base for a six consecutive time he's going for second Duran continues to use his aggressiveness and speed to get to second base that is the fifth time in the last six of bats he's got into at least second base as he keeps going first to second do their best to get through this last part of August by not having days off and playing some stiff competition these guys know what's on the line they also know that they've worked their tails off to get into this position and they don't want to roll relinquish any opportunity to anybody else wi come to Second for one they try to turn a double play we mentioned Connor Wong is the fastest catcher in the American League and he was easily able to beat that around the horn attempt at a double play yeah the most important thing when you've got a guy who could run at the plate on a ground ball with a runner at first is make sure that you get that lead Runner now berlander will face David Hamilton runner on the go and Hamilton swings and Pops one up looks like it could be playable for Shay Wickam in foul territory puts it away retreating back to First is Wong that's the second out time to take a look at today's Chevy stro [Music] ball Justin Verlander back on the mound for the first time in over two months a assuming full health for all three of these guys who would be your game one starter in an Astros playoff series would you go with a hunter Brown B that guy like grasa rer Valdez or C the first ballot Hall of Famer Justin berlander send your votes to at Space City hn use the hash strole tough choice good choices those three you would imagine would be in line to be one two and three in some form if the Astros do qualify for the 2024 playoffs Astros came into today with a 91.3% chance to reach the postseason according to fangraph that's their highest number all season long there was a time they were in the 30% range earlier in the year this ball hammered to left field but uron Alvarez is there he's going to watch it off the wall and it bounces over his head which will allow the run to score yordon got caught in between there and that double by raphaela bouncing over his head allows the runner Wong to score easily and make it a two to one game yeah I thought that ball was hit a little bit harder but it looked like yordon felt that he might have had an opportunity to make a catch up against that wall eventually getting to the idea that he would not tried to back up far picked up a run for Boston in the first inning he doubled on a ball where 98% of the runners if not 9 9% of the runners in baseball don't go to second on that play and he beat the throw by Chaz McCormick for a double then he scored on a ball that checked up on Jake Myers and Myers had a great shot to throw him out but there you see how much better jiren Durant is as a base runner than most of baseball his 8.8 Michael Garcia close but those two guys are running away in that category for the best base runners in baseball yeah and we're at the point in the season where you've got a pretty good sample size to understand what these guys are doing so it shouldn't be a surprise for any outfielder playing against jiren Duran that he's going to be looking to try and take advantage of an extra 90 ft so it puts a lot of pressure on the outfielders to come charging in as quickly as they possibly can get control of that baseball and try and stop him and that's a new category they have started a game in over a month because of the acquisition of James Paxton and then when the Astros were in town when they might need a starter a week and a half ago Chiswell was on the co list came back and appeared as a reliever in his most recent outing and now getting his first start since July 23rd Jake watches one wide one and0 Criswell has been with three organizations at the major league level Boston being his third team he debuted with a team that drafted him the angels in 2021 only appeared in one game with Los Angeles and that was a start and he was claimed off waivers in that next season by Tampa Bay and appeared with the ray for one start in 22 and picked up 10 relief appearances for Tampa Bay last year there's a ball knocked down and gloved cleanly look at that arm what a play by sidon rafhaela we've only seen this guy for a limited time in center and short but he's a special defensive player no he's an incredible athlete feel like we've seen him more in center field than at shortstop but in this series he's made some plays that show why he's moved back to the infield he's got great great range going to his right the ability just to catch it but you're right TK once you grab it you've got to get it across the diamond and he does in a pretty healthy manner with a strong throw and that wasn't even close Duan with a ball down the left field line that should be extra bases duban heading to second base with two outs and dubie will have his 22nd double of the year dubie this one a sweeper that just stays on the zone and dubon did a great job of staying on it getting flat through the zone and breaking that into left field trying to set up some two out rbi's now Shay wh combats Shay takes a first pitch on the outside edge for strike Shay getting a chance to play every day since Tuesday in this home stand excuse me since Saturday in this home standad he's played the last five and he's done a nice job at the pl sh four for 13 with a couple of doubles also has walked three times one thing we've noticed from Shay maybe more so than other guys that have come up is he's really working the strike zone well very patient hitter and the pitches he's gotten inside the Zone he's put some good swings on him as well that pitch missing in he's got a 3-1 couch as McCormick on Deck how about a sinker that leaks back over the middle part of the plate right here for Shay foror a potential first big league Homer I like it I like the call let that ball travel Barrel it up and show us some of that pop got in on him yep tailed up and in still like the aggressiveness it was a strike inside the Zone probably sitting on that Sinker only seven home runs Allowed by Chiswell in 75 Innings this year makes sense for a sinker baller keeping that ball down against them last night that dates back to last season that was right off the end of the bat and it's going to go to the first baseman casus chriswell covering in time to get wickum for the final out good towards the end of that that start he said the vlo started to tick up a little bit in that last inning for him really able to dial it in just a little bit of a slow start for him but got better as it went so look for that today okay yeah it was not a great option for either the double A or AAA team being on the road it was a worse option if he pitched for sugar leg cuz they were in Tacoma oh man travel that would have been a long flight instead it was Northwest Arkansas pitching against the naturals in that doua game I could have had him pick me up a sweatshirt or something BL Pig he's at bats and see where he's maybe set up some pitchers as well he came into today fifth in all of baseball at batting average how about you so it's not like he's just hitting the ball out he's hitting ball to go out there and overwhelm you and he's still aggressive with it but at the same time he's kind of a technician now where he can kind of execute put pitches where he wants to set guys up and get outs but I also like prepping for his games because you pull up numbers against some of these teams like the Boston Red Sox and like you said 25 starts against the team and it's just the length of
