for Trenton Howland when he entered the transfer portal the dude does have over 380 yards rushing over 75 carries and did average over 4.7 yards per carry last season in Indiana to lead the hooers before making this move and yes this is the same dude that has offers from Purdue and Nebraska Minnesota is where he was going to go but this is even after having offers from Old Men and du and UCF Oklahoma State he ends up a cowboy but the prevailing question was why dude why would you want to go to Oklahoma State and be the backup to the best running back in the country when you can go to several of these other places and not only start but you could also convert to a linebacker that was a conversational piece for him even coming out of high school because again 6'3 240 PBS run 4640 he is the ideal fit sizewise for what you're looking at the linebacker position but he's stuck to his guns he's a running back wants to be a running back and guess what the Dude Looks Like K Staley he runs like Chris Carson and has just enough moves like Jeremy Smith to do the dag on thing in the open field he's got a spin move to boot and he knows how to use it this is a perfect example of why you do something that you think is most beneficial for yourself and you block out the outside noise Tren Howen did have several opportunities to go where and some of these places he would have been certified bonafied running back one day one that wasn't going to be the case at Oklahoma State unless something crazy were to happen well guess what that craziness did in fact happen of course we don't know how Mike gunny's going to handle this situation with olly Gordon but it being a first- time offense and have him having a squeaky clean record and a good Ambassador for Oklahoma State and very very valuable in the community it's safe to assume he's probably going to get a one one game suspension maybe it's a two game heck maybe it's a three game in that scenario should we be concerned my answer to you is absolutely not if you look at the film that Trent Howen had in in high school and the film that he had at Indiana it speaks volumes we knew we were going to be able to utilize him this season that was part of getting him to Oklahoma State of course you're going to be behind the main man and olly Gordon but this season Oly wasn't going to get as many carries this season the objective for olle Gordon was not only to allow him to get a healthy amount but also keep him healthy for the time the draft rolls around but also things like this injuries happen maybe bad grades maybe a suspension of some sort due to something like uh this latest dewy award but whatever the case may be Trent Howen wasn't coming here to Simply hold a lunch pail and a clipboard on the sidelines and watch Ali Gordon go to work his objective was to make the most of his opportunities when he does get on the field well here we are the dude makes the transition as maybe the Red Zone guy maybe the guy in late games to kind of spell olly Gordon and be the fourth and one guy to now being the feature alongside sesi veah and we know what cesi is going to eventually be or at least we have a pretty good indication if you look at Jay lore and that pedigree that coaching that same style of uh ability in the Rob glass system plus we got to see a little bit of sesi the Big 12 title game against Texas you can see that he shoots out of the cannon it's the physical side when he gets shot out of the cannon and gets to the second level that still needs a little bit of work but this is a thunder and lightning package we thought we had the ideal thunder and lightning package and olly Gordon and AJ Green AJ Green goes down to the injury which is how we fortunately ended up with Trent Howen now Trent Howen is about to be the beneficiary of OI Gordon's temporary stupidity but I fully anticipate he's going take advantage of it he averaged 4.7 yards a carry in what what conference the conference that everybody says is still the old school Smashmouth run the football style of conference so if that is any indication on how successful he can be to Oklahoma State sign me up South Dakota state is not getting underlooked or undervalued I appreciate their their 29 wins their back to back FCS titles I've said numerous times they've kind of been able to replace what North Dakota state was doing after Chris kimman left to take the job at K State speaking of K State um we we've got some um we've got some news of course but wrapped up in this news is Tren the dude who's going to kind of take that place whether it's game one and game two or or game one game two and game three this is not a massive cost for concern Oklahoma state is loaded for war at wide receiver Oklahoma state is loaded for war at the quarterback position therefore if there's times in the game that we need to air it out a little bit more than we had initially drawn up so be it but if we need to lean on the Run game for whatever reason that is Trent howland's cup of taters so no Oklahoma State country we shouldn't be freaking out ideally we would have all of them available for Utah that's when this conversation could get a little bit tricky for whatever reason Oly Gordon isn't available for that stretch of Utah Kan State West Virginia then the season could get a little hairy but in the meantime we should take some comfort in the idea that if we need to Tote The Rock with number 27 in the meantime we're going to be more than fine if he's running over dudes around dudes through dudes in the Big 10 he shouldn't have of a problem doing it in the Big 12 South Dakota state is a very good football team but can they compete with the size strength speed of Oklahoma State for four quarters no therefore by the time the fourth quarter rolls around I will likely have already collected the $100 that I'm willing to wager anybody that Tren Howen will have over a 100 yards in game one this isn't disrespect this is have to go to state this is even more respect to Trent Howen and the offensive line this offensive line is not going to have any adverse positioning in my opinion to setting up a successful Run game in game one game two against Arkansas the big boys up front are going to be in for a battle but again if fren Howen was doing this to people in the Big 10 I don't know why anybody would have any reservations into thinking he can't make the same thing applicable in the Big 12 especially early on his running style is suited for Arkansas so if it is in fact he gets game one game two and we got to lean on fren hen and cesie BAH for Arkansas bring it on because we still have the same offensive line we still have the same 172 starts coming back not even taking into consideration what Joe molsky's been able to provide as that extra guy what Jason queso Brooks has been able to add to that room when it comes to depth because he scores out better than everybody else and then you have Isaiah glass who takes all of his starts from Arizona State so because Trent Howen did it in the Big 10 he did it at Indiana and we have the offensive line the running game is not GNA take a massive step backwards so everybody just needs to take a chill pill calm down and go watch some of the highlights of our our new main man that will be toting the rock for sure game one he's the thunder guy now and cesi can be the lightning guy it even looks better for next season when you're talking about depth we also have Jaden Allen Hendricks another big bodied Beast of an individual that's going to be vying for some time you also have Rodney Fields the scat lightning guy to come out of Booker T that has a surprising surprising amount of abilities to lower his head and run dudes over when applicable he's a little kennel Hunter D tril Savage type cesi is a Jaylen Warren type Tren Howen is a Kai Staley Chris Carson type that does have some Jeremy Smith wiggle in him we'll talk guaranteed all right so we did just kind of uh mention that cesie is the Jaylen waren Style guy Rodney Fields is the scatback style of guy that we're able to haul in from Booker T Washington and then you've got Jaden Allen Hendricks we're able to steal him from right underneath Clemson's noses in the same territory so you've got the big guy in Olie you've got the big guy in Tren hen you've got the big guy and Jaden Allen Hendricks you've got the lightning packages of cesie valah you've got the lightning package that does have some of the I'm going to lower my shoulder and get into you about DJ you did mention or he did mention how there's a lot of similarities to olly Gordon as he is fast as Allie know but the seemingly easy aptitude he has to squeeze in and out of holes and just dip his shoulder to make very very simplistic moves he doesn't waste any motion whenever he's making his reads which is pretty reminiscent of olly Gordon now TR Allen like I said he's got the size of Kai runs like Chris but he has just enough wiggle like like Jeremy Smith to make you miss and to give himself more opportunities Yak is the name of the game yards after contact is going to be a breath of fresh air for everybody again this misconception that Oklahoma state is g to go completely backwards without olly Gordon just doesn't make a whole lot of sense you've got the recruiting Acumen of course but we've got John wnc so if you want to go back and you want to have conversations about the Chris Carson style of guys or if you want to fast forward to the jayen Warrens of now the Justice Hills of now the chuba Hubbards of now then you get a very clear picture on what success level Oklahoma State running back room should have guys let's face it with John wnc we should be successful if for whatever reason Ali was unavailable for the entirety of the season this is a position group that yes we're we're we young and the loss of AJ Green um definitely is going to hurt quite a bit because if you saw AJ in the springtime he did look like he was taking his game to another level he was able to rush for 953 yards at Arkansas he was able to participate in the return game both Punt and kickoff that versatility and speed that he was going to be able to bring to Oklahoma State this year was going to do a lot but then we haven't even talked about Kyler Pearson well we haven't even necessarily needed to talk about the fact that our third string QB Zay Flores was taking some reps at running back because it was a moment of need but athletically we saw some things in those packages that made more sense if it's Kyler Pearson if it's Z Flores if you got multiple QBs in the backfield gu I mean could we imagine pitching a ball to zann Flores with Trent Howen as the lead blocker and you having no idea whether Zayn's going to take off or he's going to dump it into the flat or find a tight end you know kind of breaking on the backside of a drag or he could take off for Howen is the size of a fullback but much like Kai Staley he's better and more capable as a running back see Kai's here because of you know a multitude of injuries and of course being a friend of the show and a guest on the show it brings me a lot of Joy if you pop on Trent howland's highl highlights from high school you will get a lot of Kai Staley flashbacks whenever you watch him at Indiana and you see him absolutely run through dudes and mix in a little bit of a wiggle and spin move then you see the Chris carsones ability then you see the the jemy Smith style of comp at the end but it's not just him cesi is now with another year of Rob glass under his belt with the additional playing time against Texas as we were not physically able to match up every single player on the field against Texas so realistically cessi was kind of out of place but when I'm saying you know you see him shoot out of a cannon it is very very visible that his first step his his quickness out of the back field is next to none and if we want to look into the future AJ Green should be back cesi is gonna have ample amount of opportunities this season Rodney Fields May as well take full advantage he's going to get likely you know some of the four game sty of carries as is Allen Hendricks so even though everybody is naturally concerned and rightfully so about the news of olly Gordon and where that has Oklahoma State hitting we're fine with Tren Holland I'm trying you know to to get us all to understand we're fine even past that this is still John wnc and Rob glass creating these individuals these are the same dudes that help mold olle Gordon into a viable option as a true freshman olly Gordon was the best back we had as a true freshman it just it took the coaches a little while to see that well we don't have to push any freshman into the lineup right away because we we have other options at the running back spot we've had several guys that have had the ability to fill in and not just hold a body right keep a spot warm but kler Pearson gave us some legitimate capabilities out of the backfield that can also line up as as a slot guy too Zan Flores clearly gave us an extra layer of packaging that we didn't have previous to that of course we knew that Zayn was doing the dag thing in the weight room we knew that he was getting faster we knew that his understanding of what the reads and progressions needed to be was getting significantly better we know that he spent decent portion of the offseason working on the the timing and the understanding of where the linebackers and everybody are going to break for the option route Concepts but seeing him physically actually at running back with a fullback in front of him behind alen Bowman or gett renale that is a sight to behold so we need to stress less about this news and this position in particular people are worried because it's you know the unknowns so it's time to get to know the guys in the backfield that'll be carrying us for at least the beginning of the season because the work that they get in the beginning of the Season could equal some more reps when it comes to the Big 12 title game and cfp at some point in time in season you're going to need all hands on deck for this particular position we need all handson deck right now to begin the season in my opinion the stretch of South Dakota State Arkansas Tulsa Utah Kansas State West Virginia that's the meet and taters of the season I don't think I'm being disrespectful to the back half of the Big 12 but there's no opportunities for reprieve in that schedule and now you got to factor in this news but everybody needs to just chill out a little bit we're in good hands with Trent and cesi and John wnc and this offensive line and whatever a quarterback is is back there with him this senior leadership is going to prop up this position group just fine and we're not worried about development by any stretch of the imagination so don't be as worried let's spread the word and get pumped up let's be less concerned let's find a way to maximize and hammering the over as we should just like cowboy wrestling is trying to continue to maximize and it appears as though we're doing that because over the weekend we snagged ourselves another steal in two-time California state champion ronie Ramirez who just won another State title as 120 pounder which means at Oklahoma State there's a good likelihood he'll bump up to like 125 133 is uh he's ranked as the 27th best wrestler in America and he joined joins others on the big board like number three in America laran Lockett number 17 in America Cody rutage of course Lockett still her High guy and he was coming to Oklahoma State wanted to be a part of Oklahoma State before the David Taylor hire even happened and then we were able to steal rutage recently from Nebraska now you add um another getting here from the state of California that wants to be a cowboy Ronnie Ramirez B that bill what we're building in wrestling is allowing us to be much more competitive very very quickly not even to mention the fact that the top 10 class was able to add a late edition speaking of late editions of course you know we got Chris Robinson late he'll be joining the program tomorrow so make sure you tune in as we talk about his Ascension from high school why he had to go the Joo route what he was able to kind of accomplish at Kil Gore to get him to this Oklahoma State Squad but late entries David Taylor snagged another one and Colin Young months before John Smith retired we were in on guys like this but you don't know exactly if you're going to land them especially if you're in the Iowa area there's some Heavy Hitters there Iowa state is always a contender if you're one of the top guys in the country then naturally Iowa makes sense Iowa State makes sense but even just being in the Big 10 makes a lot lot of sense too when you had guys already coming in like Cody Merill and JJ mccomus Ren sakamato from Tokyo plus the the transfers allamerican Wy Hendrickson Dean hamidi and then you have kamam Amin anybody thinking that Oklahoma State wrestling and David Taylor needed a little bit of I don't get their feet wet time I don't think that's the objective in Stillwater would competing year one right away for a national title be out of the realm of possibilities likely yes but when you look at this roster and you see some some of the clips from the the summer stuff Maybe not maybe David Taylor is trying to make a statement year one and wouldn't that be the statement of all time because Penn State is returning most of the highest scoring Point totaling team in the history of a sport of wrestling so unless something magical happens and we find a way to start scoring more points than the most point producing team in the history of wrestling next year's probably everybody competing for second but second is is better than fifth better than seventh better than eighth could Oklahoma State compete for National Title compete for a number two is spot this upcoming season with this roster yeah I'd say so hardy y'all so we're gonna have for this one I know the Monday show got pushed back um and then tomorrow we got uh new commit Chris Robinson on the show so we'll do Monday show I guess Friday we'll just keep on pushing because the news although it it hurts a little bit we also need to find the positives and there are some positives here this is a positive for Trent Howen now he gets to show the world this is why I came to Oklahoma State this is why I came to quote unquote back up olle because olly was going to need some times where he needed some extra rests and I needed some carries there's potential for injury every s single time you step out on the field and there's potential for this kind of stuff to happen that's why Trent Howen is here he is about to make his introduction to everybody I can't wait for it football season can't come fast enough but that's all
