football nonstop stop all football all the time this is another edition of football Friday with h Olsen and Scotty CH presented by Mountainland Supply on [Music] welcome into H and Scotty H and Scotty are on their way to actually call game so I'm Jake hatch filling in for these final two hours on a football Friday but of course we got the two guys that everybody's really here to to actually listen to Coach Ron McBride and Alena Harrington how are you guys we're good good it's good to see you good to be reunited with you to our producing days when you were producing I was on air coach do you know about he and I our background no oh forg so there there's a show that called cougar sports that was started years cougar Sports yes coach come on come on dude get right I I had just finished an internship keep these guys in check coach make it all well I had I had I had finished an internship with Utah Jazz and Scotty calls me and says hey I want to start this show you want to be the producer for I'm like sure let's do it so got to work with this guy and Ben kiddle for quite a while okay that that was a long time ago you know and now look at you now you got three kids your in the and you become more of a normal citizen you can say that my wife would probably disagree though yeah well you know my wife didn't have the best run we're off to a Ric uh but it's of course football Friday so plenty to discuss I let's let's start with the game tonight though is that okay Coach yeah abely SMU the Cougars down in Dallas now I was talking to you before we went on you never coached at SMU you never were a coaching a game down there in Dallas right right right what but you know a lot about this SMU progam I do I sure do yeah yeah so it goes back and matter of fact the athletic director at that time was the guy who was the ex athletic director at at Utah at one time okay and so then uh I was coaching at Arizona uh they went on the uh panal because of the running back mostly the running back was getting all the money and uh but he was good too by the way and so we recruited uh Bobby Waters Kevin McKinna uh and a corner okay out of there yeah for for those unfamiliar with what happened to SMU after the Pony Express and their great success with with their running backs right CRA James right uh and which was a phenomenal tandem but there was a lot of under the table money being passed around um in in those conferences in general back in the day the Southwest Conference was Notorious and so they they they they they really C laughing cuz he knows all about it well you know I've I've had at least four players bought for r that I was recruiting that were were bought right out of my hands okay so they they ended up getting what is known as the death penalty which they they squashed the program yeah now I was at BYU when this happened and so we also picked up a couple of SMU guys cuz the SM players were allowed to transfer you know without having to sit out and so we picked up a couple of uh you know guys defensive linemen if I recall and then then maybe a couple other players and then you guys got some and so they you know all of those SMU players kind of spread out throughout the country and SMU went from being this this stored um you know institution to not having a football program and now you got to rebuild and that is not easy but they're they're on the on that path it took some time uh but the team they have right now is is very athletic yeah and the problem that they have is that I watched the Nevada Reno game and Reno took it to him for three quarters of the game and then finally SMU woke up and decided to play there's this guy named RJ Maryland we're going to find him the tight end obviously so yeah well yeah he's a he's a he's a horse so they uh so in the fourth quarter and last part of the third quarter they really started playing football and they shut Reno down and I think it's a matter of the guys watch the film from the year before and see that Reno's not very good but they underestimated the fact that this guy did an incredible job of rebuilding the roster and and has some real physical players and they three about two and a half quarters of that game uh Reno was in charge MH and then all of a sudden they decided to play and then they shut him down but SMU is a a very athletic football team uh they'll definitely show up and play against BYU so there won't be like any any kind of wow we can run over these guys or anything like that like that and the league itself is very balanced from the bottom to the top so all there's no bad teams in that League about ACC they just joined yeah yeah no bad teams in that league and uh in talking to people um BYU has a lot of respect earned a lot of respect in the League last year is really being tough uh a tough out for anybody and and had earned their respect in the league and so everybody has respect for the the BYU program and the toughness in their program uh so it'll be a real interesting game but just a interesting uh note about the the three kids from that we got uh this goes back you we're talking like the late 80s when this all went down yeah so so they sent me to the airport to pick them up right okay and so coach Tomy was the head coach he said you go out get those guys and when we pick up recruits from Arizona we never take them the fast way back to the because if you take them the fast way it's all tumble weeds and and and dirt right so you always take them a roundabout way so you're going through nice neighborhoods and that so you take the so here comes these three guys they getting off the plane and Bobby and Kevin are wearing shorts and a t-shirt when they get off the plane and uh and so the first thing that Bobby says to me hey coach what time do we tea off you know and I'm saying dude hey man this is no vacation this is this is a business trip oh yeah well we just we want to come out we want to play some golf and I said no I said I said you better straighten up by the time you get to the head coach here because he's going to be really mad at me and then and then the the the corner the from uh from SMU he wanted to know where his apartment was hey coach can you show me my apartment I said what do you mean he said well yeah I does an apartment go with the you know with the scholarship I said no they just you get a scholarship and I said said well you guys are probably out and he ended up at LSU yeah and so we got the the other two and the other two guys were were really good players and really good guys I mean Kevin McKenna a great leader uh he was elected Captain he was only there for one spring in one fall wow okay and and uh that's how much respect that he earned in the in the locker room and and Bobby was was a football guy all the way and there they comment to me we never saw any the money right I said he said yeah didn't yeah we our parents were made too much money so they weren't part of the group that was cashing in yeah we never so they they let me know that they didn't see any of the money and I said well hey I don't want to go into it's not my business a lot of lot of those schools they had the nil collectives long before and I collectives were a thing well what they got the death penalty for is is totally okay in this day and age so about that's true so about about two years ago maybe it was yeah so I'm New Year's Eve right so I'm having uh a deal at a bar and I'm sitting there with Chip Kelly and his line coach and me and and we're talking and and Chip says the only thing different now is the money's above the table instead of below the table I said I said so so it's really you know life hasn't changed that much well and bring up an interesting point I you guys saw it yesterday so that whole settlement to get rid of the antitrust case against NCAA the judge threw it back at the lawyers and said hey you guys need to sit down and figure this out she doesn't want to restrict anybody ability to to make money essentially meaning the collectives even with that Revenue sharing that's going to come into effect they're still going to let the collectives spend as much money as they want to help these kids out so they're going to be making money left right and Center it feels like as an athlete well yeah I mean it's it's a it's an interesting thing you know to be a athletic director in today's college football and oh and U you know and so so so everybody has a responsibility for where the money's going okay how much does it cost for a tight end how much does it cost for a quarterback how much it cost for this and then how much do how much are we going to have to pay to get that particular guy so uh it's a it's a interesting thing where the rich get rich get poor you know I mean that's unless they do something and I know that that if I'm an athletic director or I'm in charge of the money I want to make sure that that we have some way some some way to handle this situation there's that's why you're seeing the rise of like general managers in college football and like in these athletic dep departments because they're legitimately you're talking about Coach they're going to say okay our left tackle is worth X number a quarterback is worth X number and guess what it's like an NFL salary cap you're going to have to D that out oh yeah there's there's no question and U you know the interesting thing uh if you watch the Kansas City game last night the kid that played at BYU last year that I absolutely loved when I watched him inti yeah he played he played his ass off last night excuse my leg you can erase that lyd yeah but I was I was so proud of that kid because uh you know the Chiefs are for real I mean both of those teams were for real yeah you know and it was such a fun game to watch because it was so physical and I tell you what they did everything they could do to take Mahomes out of the game you know hit him on his late hit him on the sidelines undercut him you know they're they didn't care I mean uh it was a it was a really fun game to watch because it was so physical yeah and the the tight end number 80 from uh the the Isaiah likely you're likely yeah I mean that one play he makes down there it's oh my God where's where did this guy come from you know so yeah he was he was uh he was he was interesting but it was uh it was a you know neither team liked each other much no and so it was but to get back to the SMU thing um you know I really I think this SMU team is very athletic and I think they have you know they can they their skill is better than be what you skill so we'll just see how it all how it all pans out I think I think this be what team is is very good on defense uh last week the quarterback up you know came came to front and looked like a really good player uh the concept is good so it's it's going to be a a very good game I would give SMU a little bit of the edge just because they're playing at home would you give them a double digit Edge that's what that's what the line it's been as high as maybe 14 but 10 and A2 I think is where the line might be right about now yeah but but uh I see it as being a really close game and I see it going down to the fourth quarter U and just see who's who's the tough who's the toughest guy at the end but but uh SMU their skill guys can make big plays now the interesting point coach is and we had Steve Lansdale on djm PK this week and he's the sideline reporter and that Stadium holds I think they said 32,000 I think at Max Capacity but he was lenting the fact that it's Friday night in Texas and we all know that high school football is keing and he talked about that he was actually somewhat concerned that they're going to be SMU fans dumping their tickets and cougar fans are going to show up in droves to replace them it could be interesting I you know the BYU tra travels well meaning that they've got people in Dallas that are going to come to that game but like LEL said the CER fans if they got a quarter they keep the quarter well and that's the thing coach is last week there were tickets to this game going for count it $1 yeah well exactly yeah so they built a stadium on campus at SMU which is what they needed because uh they were playing in in the in the NFL stadium well it was it was the old Cowboy stadium right and nobody nobody was there you know I mean it was 15,000 whatever it looked like an empty space but uh taking it back to the campus I think was really good um you know so it' be interesting to see what kind of crowd they do that they do draw uh but SMU were real you know they've they got they've got a nice team you know so no that whole R rebuilding process you know part of that rebuild for for them they took an interesting turn they hired June Jones who we both know University of Haw coach you know run and shoot uh type of offense and and my old offensive coordinator from my high School the guy that was was uh Morrison who was was my offensive coordinator at puno was the quarterback's coach for for well I offensive coordinator assistant because June Jones runs that entire offense right but that didn't seem like it fit for that type of a school you know and they needed to to get back to where they are offensively now yeah uh I still think that was an important part of their rebuild was to at least get back to some winning ways which they did under June Jones um but now I think they're they're poised and now entering the AC ACC they're they're poised to I think kind of reclaim the glory of their past but you know a 30,000 you know plus a stadium is is is not not a huge Stadium that's pretty that's smaller than you know what rice stadium was if I'm not mistaken coach when when before the expansion was rice right around 30 or 40 it was 40 something I think yeah 30 ,000 yeah well and that's the thing about this is it it should be an interesting game because you talk about SMU they've uploaded that up upgraded their talent base because Rett Lashley I think understood what he was going up against as he jumps into the ACC and the funny thing about this is this is their first Power four matchup against a fellow power four team with BYU coming to town there should be a lot of excitement around it I'm just I'm just curious to see what the the fan Dynamic is here how many cougar fans are there and obviously how many of the home faith up well it'll be uh we'll soon see yeah well according to you listening to to H and I I know people that are down there that have traveled for this game um that that are going to be at the stadium tonight and you know H's talking about being in the the hotel lobby and a lot of BYU fans there and then some probably traveled and some locals uh that that have you know an affinity or some sort of attachment to BYU so I think BYU will be well represented especially in a situation like this cuzz on a Friday night in Texas that's Friday Night Lights that's what that's about that's high school ball yeah and it kicks off an hour before most high school games kick off 7 o'clock but right how many of those fans are going to bypass their son cousin brother yeah whatever they got in terms of high school football to go out to this one but it it' be an interesting match up I I'm very curious because coach I want your thought on this CU these FCS games it's what BYU played last week I know that SMU played Nevada Reno in their first game but they played Houston Christian last week another FCS team and they both blew those teams out of the water so you talk about BYU I want to get both you and Alma's thought on this what do you make of BYU coming off that FCS game can you really get much of a tell on the Cougars well you know I've I've been down there I think four times to watch him practice during training camp during training camp and during the Spring and the fall and uh uh the scrimmage I was at I was extremely impressed with the defense okay how Gap efficient they were uh where their eyes were uh what they concentrated on you know and they and I thought that that particular day uh it was primarily uh the defense I thought shined you know and and I had no idea who the quarterback would be because at that time at number three the transfer bannan bannan he took the majority of the Reps that day okay and so there were four quarterbacks that took reps and and Bohanan got the majority of the Reps so at that time I said well they this is the guy they want to be the quarterback but then the the the kid from the year before from from RI Riverside City College red yeah redoff uh who was a very tough competitor and his his junior college coaches absolutely Lov the guy you know I mean when he came to to BYU I know I got a call from pen who's their dline coach and he said he said hey BYU is going to love this kid because he's a gamer and he's tough he's a good leader he's he's the whole you know the whole package and so he was pretty average last year well he's Ed four as a starter yeah yeah but but uh he he's just continued to compete and I think the and I think the offensive uh coordinator has more confidence in him than he had in in in the other young man you know and they went with the guy who who they felt the most comfortable with and and he produced for them I think when it comes down to making that decision right and you hear all the stuff that comes out coming out you know kind of leaking out of BYU on what that decision looked like and and it really was coming down to it it it wasn't it wasn't a situation where so you know red sloff really he separated himself it was more his command of the offense but I think that is is very important yeah when you're going into the start the season the guy's got the better command of the offense is going to be the guy that you're probably going to go with and Bohanan you know maybe his physical skills or or his his you know abilities are a little bit better but the command of the offense from from Jake was like this guy's ready to go and if you look at at his story speaking of Jake you know he's been a guy that has been fighting you know his entire career from when he came out of high school and then covid hits I mean all these kids that went through the covid experience if you survived that like you you come out with a little more perseverance than the average person because well his senior season was taken away from yeah yeah and then then the recruiting right portion of that was taken away from there was like no recruiting going on so there's so many things I think that lend themselves to building the character of the person that we see you know now Jake his ability out there on the field is a is a product of a lot of those things and they were on display in in a very positive way last Saturday against an FCS opponent now the question is okay what can you do against a big four opponent and we we'll see we'll see we're going to learn a lot about think both of these teams right now I I want to flip over we're talk about Utah and Baylor coming up next I'm interested to get your thought on this coach because I know you know a lot about Utah as we all know but I want to get your thought on the Bears as well so we'll dig into that momentarily well more in a moment right here on the football Friday on hen Scotty right here on 975 the KSL Sports Zone when it comes to high school football KSL has you covered don't miss the Game Night Live game of the week Sports Zone this is H ssen and Scotty CH presented by Mountainland Supply on 975 the KSL Sports Z [Music] [Music] [Music] my daddy welcome back to hands and Scotty football Friday with Coach R McBride and almma Harrington I'm Jake hatch sitting in for hands and Scotty they are you know doing their thing they're out traveling for ball games this weekend all right we just talked about BYU and SMU and I wanted to I dig in obviously to another match up Utah and Baylor okay now go ahead coach okay so I've watched Baylor a couple of times okay you know and then I I uh so I guess it was yesterday I I tried to watch them very closely and you know so just going back from their game last week you know Aranda now is you know he's a defensive coach and a very good defensive coach very quiet guy not a real vocal guy but just a quiet kind of conservative guy you know very film orientated technique orientated uh very disciplined football coach so he's he's gone you know he knows that he's under the gun okay uh so he's taking over the defense and he's called the defenses uh and they they B the defenses based on they they give you a lot of movement so they're going to they're going to give Utah a lot of movement uh they're going to take some chances at times okay uh but they're very sound in their thought process uh I think sometimes with the movement they give up gaps and they could create a big uh you know a big alley yeah if if if Utah picks up the movement well yeah it'll be interesting you watch early to see how they're picking up the movement and and what their steps are from and the offensive line stand you're talking about offensive line most notably obviously because they've got to be able to pick that up they got to be able to pick up the movement yeah and they got to be able to ride to the next level you know and and he'll he'll by down in distance and and everything he'll have chared all the way back Pro probably a couple years okay and and he'll have a a game plan going going in to uh to take it to take advantage of what Utah does and U so obviously uh Utah is the better of the two teams there's no question and then with Baylor's offensive on the offensive side uh I don't think the quarterback is very good I don't think he's very accurate Daquan Finn yeah yeah he can run he's athletic but he aims the ball I don't think he I don't think he reads coverage particularly well uh I think the I think both tackles are pretty average guys I don't think they're great players I think they're a little a little stiff and uh a little a little soft from from what I see but they got some skill guys that can make plays on the outside so I look at it I don't I don't think and I could be wrong of it but I don't think Baylor can score against Utah I really did I think it'll be like I think it'll be a a a defensive game okay and I look at it being 16-6 or 24-6 or in that that area but I don't I don't see where Baylor what they have in their offensive Arsenal where they can score a lot of a lot of points against a good defense well and I guess I'll get your thought on this almma is Utah played Baylor last year and it was a ended up being a pretty close game down to the wire there Nate Johnson obviously rallied the troops late in that one there's change obviously new offensive coordinator for bayy you talking about Coach talking about Randa taking over the defense how much confidence you think Utah can take from that last year knowing that hey we got by these guys but they shouldn't be I guess as good coming up here to rcle State yeah not only that you got by them last year at their place and you got by them last year without Cam Rising without Kei you you have so many more weapons this year your run game is still needs to be I I think solidified speaking of the University of Utah and and possibly what you're talking about you take advantage of the the activity and the and the the shifting that happens with their defense and you catch them and a seam turns into a gap turns into an alley um and you have an opportunity to to maybe break some plays there but I think offensively this is a far better team than the team that went down to to Baylor last year well and absolutely yeah it's nothing against what Utah had last year but they they found a way and you add yeah you add the cam Rising the Brant keithy equation dejon Stanley last week F coach was Lights Out The Freshman is it freshman running back in Utah sophomore I don't remember what which which guy Stanley Stanley yeah yeah he's a he's a speed guy yeah well I'm just saying you you you talk about them leaving maybe some gaps open as we yeah so he was used to so this is awesome love it well yeah I thought lloy was play in the background like alert alert phone is blown up hey hey you got to realize I can't hear anything it's okay it's okay Coach hey it's awesome oh man yeah hey it's pretty embarrassing you know like well it actually kind of fit because like like it's like red alert for Baylor like dejon Stanley if you leave a Gap open he's going red alert he's going so he has a sophomore he's sophomore but he look like a guy that if you talk about them leaving gaps open and maybe allowing an alley he'll exploit that all day well the thing that concerns me is Utah's kind of made up their mind that they're going to play all four yeah yeah tailbacks okay so each one gives you something a little different but when you get you know running backs like to feel the game you know words a rhythm position yeah in other words somebody here somebody here would know you give you give the you give the horse enough you know enough hay he's going to he's going to eventually do something big but but they've and they're all four of those those tailbacks are good players and they all have a different set you know the the Mitchell kid is a downhill crease Runner uh the the one kid that's been there for three or four years is the best leader Bernard Bernard knows the offense the best and and and he's the leader on their team uh the Stanley kid is a speed guy you know so they've got they've got four legitimate guys and then the the kid from Alabama you know is what I call a bouncer you know he hits it and bounces and bounces and hits it and bounces he's a bouncer so so each one does something different you know so you got a bouncer you got a speed guy you got a crease guy you know and then you got a leader guy so he got four and all four of them have talent and all four add to what you know they're all really good players and they all they all fit part of the scheme and so we'll see how how you know as soon as it backfires a little bit then you're going to see him go down to it's it's so hard to maintain morale in a room when you have that situation because there's going to be a guy that's going to break a couple of nice plays and then it's going to be his turn to come out yeah and he he'll get frustrated and then the the way things work these days he's got 30 people in his ear that are saying oh you should be the guy getting 20 carries and then then now that guy gets a little disgruntled so you got to be that there's a whole management technique to be able to try to handle that but you take the risk that that it could go south and and and then all of a now you got you know guys that are bickering instead of you know ideally you got running backs that everybody is next to the coach waiting for their turn to go in but they're watching the running back comes off and and and they you know the guy that was on the sideline says hey this is what I saw next time you're out there make sure you watch that linebacker you know and now all of a sudden the guy comes off and nobody's talking to him right be you run that risk and and and you might be better off just saying okay these are the two guys that are going get rotations yeah and these are the two guys are going to play the other two guys are just that you know if if somebody gets hurt then then you earn it in practice and and then maybe you get into that Twan rotation well we years ago we had a boycott at at uh at at Long Beach State right four tailbacks and uh and so they decided you know and so one guy was getting all the Reps right and and so and there were three guys that weren't getting any rips and so they decided that you know we need to boycott this because this is this is this is unfair so they wrote all our demands on a on on on on a the deal in the bathroom when you the toilet toilet paper so they gave all the demands to the head coach right and so her bles was the the number one tailback he was leading the country in offense right yeah and so the first day none of the African-American players showed up to practice nobody just all white guys right so I sitting there and and we're getting ready we're taking a trip to Hawaii that week right and so then so herb herb didn't show up either right and then herb comes to me he says what what's the problem I said well the three guys are playing behind you they want reps they want to take my reps I said yeah they want to take my yeah they want to take your reps because they think they're better than you he said I'm not giving up my rest I said well then show up to practice so he shows up to practice and the other three guys are not there right so so then I told the others here I said well didn't go so well yeah you're you're you're so-called boycotting the boycott the boycott lasted for a day right and uh but it was it was uh but yeah I thought her the other cats they want they want if you get 10 reps they want 10 reps and no no man that ain't happening jeez well and that's not how it works no right it's just not how it works no that your ones are going to get the majority of the Reps the twos will get a few reps number the three will will come in when you know and I know this role very well will come in when when everybody else doesn't want to run the play yeah yeah but uh uh it was it was pretty interesting but but well it should be an interesting matchup because like you said Baylor's got a lot of questions around them but this is Utah team that you can tell this team's focused they got they got a goal in mind and they're not letting anything get in the way it feels like yeah so it'll be you know Baylor will come in here ready to play and they'll have a really uh defensively they'll have a really good game plan okay and um but the difference is Cam Rising understands pre-nap read he understands where he's going with the football there's no hesitation if you watch him you know just he knows where he's going going he knows what he doing with the ball he's a very the only thing you worry about is he takes some unnecessary chances yeah and the unnecessary chances could get him could get him hurt well the coaches keep talking about the fact that they want him to like hook slide they want to get well he he doesn't know how to hook slide I I it's just not in his DNA well what you know I still go back to the SC game a few years ago and I the crease was so small that he hit but he hit that crease on on his own read inside or whatever was and I'm telling you what I'm sitting there in the end zone watching him and the crease was small but he hit it Square uh and the crease was small but he hit it and he was you know his shoulders were turned his helmet was down and he was driving and and he and he broke the crease you know but there were a lot of people sitting in that crease you know yeah and U these guys now I'll tell you one thing Baylor will do well all the Zone read stuff they'll the backside end will do exactly what he's supposed to do okay and and believe me they'll if they can lay some hits on this guy they will well I know Utah's coaches are very concerned with keeping them healthy so and then they'll they'll have they'll have a couple of guys be so iranda will figure out the protection scheme okay and then he'll have blitzes that take advantage of the touin scheme so he'll have he'll always have a guy theoretically that they can't pick up okay and so he he understands the numbers game he understands how to beat protections and so he's a he's very he's very smart in that area and then he'll run his slant and angles which are his it looks like they're more of a lateral slant team than they are penetrating slant team but but he'll make sure they're in the right gaps at the right time and so it'll be interesting to see how Jim Harding's group does and that'll be the key if they if they pick everything up and made the increase then the game could be you know could be I think this is the other problem with having four tail backs there's going to be one of those guys that is a liability on on past protection well yeah because they're going to they're going to they're they're going to Green Blitz they're going to do things where where they got they're going to do things where they got one guy that they that they can't pick up in the protection and that back's got to be able to well in the back the back is usually a dual read guy you know A to B to C sure and so they'll they'll maybe bring a guy way opposite the formation got it okay and then and then the back has to be able to identify yeah you know and uh so yeah it'll be interesting so if you see some guys loose uhhuh you're you're going to know that they're not they're not counting correctly all right well we will continue to break this down we get some more thoughts on this coming up in a hatch and Alma and Coach uh I know we got to get back out to a break here pretty quick I want to get a quick thought on high school football from both of you because I know that Mack you're obviously very engross with it dmma you're calling games uh I was talking with DJ earlier today we were talking after our Show wrapped up DJ and PK and he talked about the fact he was watching the game you were calling last night 11 he said the quarterback play in this state has elevated to a crazy level he feels like and DJ you know he's been engrossed with the high school football for and I agre with him so I just wanted a quick thought from both of you on just the overall I guess boost of what we've seen High School football-wise especially at the quarterback position well because of the the amount of training now that's available because most of these these good quarterbacks soon as their their football season's over they go into into individual training yeah specialized training specialized training and and and that's not just in Utah but it's California is another big one at you know with these guys training people and they do a really good job with these kids and uh improving their mechanics their reads uh and and generally if you have let's say you got a you got a good program like Lehi or or Corner Canon Corner Canyon and the Corner Canyon coach has a system that he's that he's had for since he was at Jordan High School Eric care yeah car and and car is really really uh does a good job with the system and the training you know and the kids then the kids are all he said hasn't had a bad quarterback yet yeah you know he got kasuga now came up from from timw and and uh and we we're actually calling that game tonight um uh Corner Canyon versus Farmington but to your point there's a lot of training out there um and so all these kids as soon as they're identified as a talent you know they might start with some local camps we were just doing the uh Spanish Fork last night so Dustin Smith that group Elite right they got QB Elite um and so there's and his his kid McKay Smith is is a is a really nice quarterback too yeah there but there's a lot of talent here and they get good development uh funny story talking with uh with Ed Larson over at Lehigh he's like cuz his quarterback's committed to appalachin state right and like man these guys they go down to California they come back and and it's like the these California guys are teaching them all the newest stuff and it's like they come back it's like you got to remember those guys those NFL quarterbacks their receivers are running 4 340s and 444s like my gu guys's got to be able to sit in the pocket and you can't just you know get it out of there real quick it's like you got sometime you got to wait for things to develop so it's a little different and there's an adjustment to be made for those guys coming back from those camps but still the development I think is extremely good oh yeah just footwork release angles you know all the all the little things you know well there have been a lot of people for a lot of years that thought that quarterback play was holding back the high school football in the state but it feels like it's yeah not anymore puga's already got over a thousand yards you know in you know three four games this this year yeah well the whole they the whole system is better because you got much better much better players because you got more people in theate and the Little League programs are really good and so it's it's uh of and particularly in certain areas you know where where you have the population where you have the numbers you know ab and then the good if you got a really good player he he he he's going to end up at one of the well well that's another story for another day coach W hey hey I already hey believe me I know the process I'm sure you do we'll dive back to not hey that's a that's a that's a we'll come back to that topic we'll come back to that topic we'll revisit it I every everybody wants to avoid hey any any controversial subject okay well let's avoid that and move on all right more in a moment on a football Friday right here at 975 the KSL Sports Zone
