DONOVAN GINGER LEE SAID THE VIRUS IS CALLED NAMED AFTER THE VILLAGE AND TOBAGO. >> WAS FIRST DISCOVERED IN 1955, THE NICKNAME OF SLOTH FEVER COMES FROM THE FACT THAT THE VIRUS WAS FIRST SEEN IN 3 TOED SLOTS AS OF AUGUST. 16TH. THE THE CDC SAYS THERE HAVE BEEN 21 REPORTED CASES OF SLOTH FEVER IN THE U.S. EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED HAD RECENTLY TRAVELED TO CUBA. ONE CASE HAS BEEN REPORTED IN NEW YORK, BUT THE OTHER 20 ARE ALL TIED BACK TO FLORIDA. RESIDENTS LOCALLY. WE HAVE 2 REPORTED CASES IN ORANGE COUNTY AND 2 IN POLK COUNTY. THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION HAS REPORTED MORE THAN 8,000 CASES IN THE CARIBBEAN AND SOUTH AMERICA. MOST OF THEM ARE BRAZIL, NOT SLOW. FEVER IS SPREAD THROUGH INSECT BITES LIKE THOSE FOR MOSQUITOES AND MIDGES SYMPTOMS ARE VERY SIMILAR TO THE ONES FROM OTHER MOSQUITOES SPREAD ILLNESSES LIKE OR VIRUS, HEADACHE, FEVER, CHILLS, RASHES, AND MUSCLE AND JOINT PAIN. THERE IS NO VACCINE AVAILABLE FOR PREVENTION OR MEDICINE TO SPECIFICALLY TREAT SLAW FEVER. ANYONE DIAGNOSED WITH THE PIES NEEDS, LET IT RUN ITS COURSE. SYMPTOMS TYPICALLY LAST ABOUT A WEEK, THERE'S ALSO NO EVIDENCE SLOPPY THAT CAN BE TRANSMITTED FROM PERSON TO PERSON. BUT IF AN INFECTED PERSON HAS BEEN BY A MOSQUITO AND THAT MOSQUITO BITES A HEALTHY PERSON, THAT IS A POSSIBILITY THE SECOND PERSON CAN BE INFECTED. THAT CONCERN IS WHY YOU'RE SEEING SUCH AN EMPHASIS ON MOSQUITO CONTROL BY LOCAL OFFICIALS. THE CDC IS ALSO SO CONCERNED ABOUT THIS FIRE IS THAT THEY HAVE ISSUED A TRAVEL HEALTH NOTICE. BUT THESE 5 COUNTRIES, BOLIVIA, BRAZIL, COLOMBIA, CUBA AND PERU. THE AGENCY IS ALSO ADVISING ANYONE WHO'S PREGNANT TO THE FOR TRAVELING TO THESE PLACES. AND LADIES, HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE DOCUMENTED 5 CASES OF PREGNANT WHEN PASSING ON THE VIRUS IN UTERO TO THE UNBORN CHILDREN. ONE OF THOSE CASES, UNFORTUNATELY TURNED OUT TO BE FATAL FOR THE CHILD.
