[Music] less than 2 miles south of the United States capital welcome to Nationals Park the show has an NL East matchup it's the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals first pitch coming your way [Applause] next just about set to go now and on the hill DJ herds what should we keep an eye on here well he's been a very dependable starter for his club and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it's the release point maybe it's the motion but just some way somehow they've got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side Jaz Chisum Jr stands in now and watches strike one [Applause] [Applause] the pitch oh this hitter's been seeing good velocity in the abbat it's kind of set up for that change up he hasn't seen it yet looks just like a fast ball out of the head and that's outside and it's two and [Music] [Applause] two hit hard base [Applause] hit nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly step off throw to first Chism gets back [Applause] easily now at the plate briyan Del Cruz and safe it's a stolen base well he's batting lead off and he's acting like a traditional leadoff hitter gets on base to start the game then puts himself on second with a nice stolen bag I think that sets the tone for the offense for sure Chisum at second with nobody [Applause] out and that one is inside ball one as a pitcher you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed a base hit it's probably going to be a big run so you really have to execute on the m and a two- one on the way hitter's got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the Outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit oh nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there just a low 90s fast ball and I'm not sure he was trying to challenge him but that's pretty much what happened very hitable location but he found a way to just get it by him here's Josh Bell fought off [Applause] foul swing and a miss oh and two a little anxious a little aggressive early in the count too much for me next pitch is outside man oh man I don't know how you take that pitch that's as close as it gets and that's off the Inside Edge and the count is two and two in the dirt blocked no Advance good job behind the [Applause] dish foul ball and and it remains a Full [Applause] Count man at second foul we'll see another payoff pitch good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the abat right side and there's two away and time now for the Marlins lineup and so far this year this has not been a very good offense well in this day and age if you can't SLO and get on base that Ops has to be at a certain level if you're going to produce runs give your pitchers an opportunity as they're facing tough offenses as well Jake burer the next up for the marins that one is absolutely belted looks like extra bases and they'll score first it's one ZIP fires the second too late into second with a double and that was hard hit well there you go the RBI machine another clutch run scoring it back yeah he's been so good at these situations call it clutch if you want but his resume speaks for itself so runner at second two now Jesus Sanchez the next up for the Marlins [Applause] not even close there ball [Applause] one man on second two down pitch misses there and it's two [Applause] and0 there's a swing and a drive Thomas going back struck out all three batters for the save and that should quiet this home crowd home run number five on the season and they tack on to their lead it's three nothing well he almost robbed the home run right there and I tell you what he'd love another crack at it during batting practice you always like to work on that and so close but that one was just out of his reach so two away with nobody on Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here one thing with Max Muny and it'll be interesting to see what he throws here he hammers the fast ball and he deals that one fouled off well with this many pitches thrown here in this first inning I mean you're giving the other team a really good look he's going to have to find a way to get some weak contact maybe a swing and Miss get into that Dugout and hit the reset [Applause] button fights that one away still one and two got him swinging but they strike for three in the inning two on this two-run home run it's now three nothing major league baseball is on the show and we're back and on the mound now Trevor Rogers Well you know this guy wants to be better than that I mean the ER is blown he understands that he's got to put his team in a better position to win ball games and at this point you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that W and if you do that you'll look up and most likely that ra will have dropped over time here's the short stop at the play CJ Abrams the W to kick the pitch chopped left side throws to first one up one down [Applause] as we take a look at the Nationals lineup a guy who's been huge for them over the last month plus Eddie Rosario well boo there aren't many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does I mean batting over 400 with runners in scoring position are you kidding me I I know it's not guaranteed or an automatic but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not one down base is empty and that's off the Inside Edge and that's ball [Applause] two pitched into the sixth and was able to limit the damage and that will drop foul here's a 2-1 and a foul ball one out base is [Applause] empty another [Applause] [Music] ball that one ripped that's bad could get there and now maybe extra bases he's in at second with a one out double everything came to together for him this was a really nice swing didn't quite get enough behind it to get it out of here but once it got over his head in left field it was extra bases all the [Applause] way maned second with one away here's Jesse [Applause] Winker and he hits a ground ball right inside and it goes just [Applause] foul and the 01 swing and a base hit into third now so Runners at the corners and one out he was all over that one textbook back control right there got a pitch on the outside saw it deep into the zone and just Barrel it up went the other way for the knock one down Eddie Rosario digging in for the [Applause] Nationals slider Clips The [Applause] Zone Thomas on third Winker over at first so with one away that one misses and that is ball [Applause] one spear to the mound Runner might be in trouble one at second over to first that's two nicely done 163 and that will in the inning so it's no runs on two base hits no errors and one left second inning coming up from our nation's capital it's the Marlins three and the Nationals nothing back in Washington DC here's the left fielder Nick Gordon Gordon hers back to work that one pushed foul singy wasn't very sharp in the first got hit around a little bit just wasn't able to locate particularly well a lot of stuff for the fat part of the plate yeah boo he wasn't fooling anyone it's a tough place to be cuz it's not always obvious what adjustments need to be made sometimes it's location sometimes it's being too predictable sometimes you're tipping your pitches he's going to need to figure it out quickly though Matthew Ross umpiring behind home played for us in this one he's got a reputation for having a bit of a wide Strike Zone Chris yeah no doubt boo he rewards pitchers when they're working the edges and sometimes a little bit beyond that so for the hitters just have to really be aware don't miss your your pitch when you get it early in the count now Fly ball to Right Center no trouble here puts it away for the out and there's one [Applause] awayan and now it's vial [Applause] bruhan that's off the mark and that's ball one but misjudges this one and it falls and this crowd really locked in right now next one misses and the count is two [Music] and0 and that one is lifted in the air Thomas in position makes the catch for the out the catcher number four two outs bases empty and now here is Nick [Applause] fortez swing and a ball lifted left field and that is that and now it's Luis Garcia really thriving with the bat this season here at home Garcia and the pitch that misses and that's ball one a three-oh lead is great but you can't get too comfortable got to stay aggressive keep attacking hitters try to cruise through this ball [Applause] game that one lifted to left Gordon brings it in with a nice running grab and now it's kebert Ruiz that Clips the corner go ball one [Music] [Applause] straight one down base is empty PS and misses it's a strike out oh when you commit to throwing an inside fast ball to your glove side across the strike zone especially with two strikes if you're going to miss you want to miss off the plate in you do not want to leave it out over the heart of the plate so that was excellent execution on that pitch really tied him up and he couldn't get a piece at all burer makes the grab and that is that Nationals go quietly they Trail in this one three nothing and welcome back to the ballpark on to the third inning and now the center fielder Jazz Chisum J junor so now Pete Alonzo at the plate Alonzo former second round pick out of the University of Florida one been a rough start on the mount for this guy this third inning so important for him to get on track Turn the Page settle in do all those things you need to do to give your team a little bit of length in this one next offering is foul [Applause] back they tried to get him to chase on a slider down it [Applause] away swing and a highfly ball to left Rosario calls it in and there's one awayan Brian Del Cruz the next up for the Marlins he was a strikeout victim his first time one thing with Max Muny and it'll be interesting to see what he throws here he hammers the fast ball this one in the air right field Thomas makes the play two away now batt the first and now the switch hitting first baseman Josh Bell he's over one [Applause] smoked on the ground a second whips it to Gallow and the inning is over nothing doing for the marins but they lead it three nothing back here in Nationals Park as we go to the last of the third up now for Washington Joey Gallow Gallow in the pitch Rogers 26 years old a former first round pick back in 2017 right through there for a [Applause] strike got the back going to soon at strike two just a really nice slider down and in there he wants to get the hitter Thinking Fast Ball speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement and there's a ball good eye on that spot really good take especially with two strikes 32 this one high in the air to left Center [Applause] Gordon makes the grab one away batting the CER here's the center [Applause] fielder right through there for a strike well he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there couldn't pull the the trigger and perhaps the best pitch you'll see in this in Bat to hit in plenty of time to First Beats him to the bag for an out on the bun well he gave the bun a shot there but not able to execute yeah I think he rushed it a little bit and when guys Rush can be a popup or can be bunted right back at a position player Abrams in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike [Music] that to right Sanz settles under it and makes the catch and that ends the inning back in Washington DC here's the third baseman Jake burer Burger PS back to work and ball [Applause] one oh he doesn't get the call now two and0 looks like he's being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up doesn't want to make another mistake the line of the pitch and that's in there at the knees you know these Marlins showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one it's not just the three runs they've already scored on top of that they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game and that one hammered way back there that one is gone a GI gigantic blast his second home run of the series it's 4 nothing that was blasted absolutely no doubt off the bat a good hitter gets pitch recognition early he saw exactly where that was going to be the challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing he stayed on it and got all of it Jesus Sanchez the next up for the Marlins that one's in there going one and that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there it may Force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later [Applause] [Applause] [Music] this one in the air center field and it falls man at first Xavier Edwards will hit next 0 for one he struck out swinging last time up and in and it's w and O and a pitch that one off the mark and now two and0 well he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout next offering is in for a strike back door him with the breaking ball just got the corner there's nothing you can really do with that there goes the runner now this is in the air down the line and that drops [Applause] foul and it's filled up he's been trying to tease the Zone with that slider but these hitters have showed patience not going outside the strike zone and ball four to a board base knock and now a free pass this has the makings of a big inning if they can get a couple more quality of bats so digging in Nick Gordon 0 for one with a fly out to [Applause] Center wouldn't chase that time double barreled action in the bullpen Hunter Harvey looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez Barnes getting cranked up as well Sanchez the lead runner at second Edwards at first with no outs now a screamer into the Outfield and makes the grab Runner tags it second and he makes it up to third with one away and up next for Miami Vidal bruhan you know boo is a 20-year-old this guy hit two home runs in the World Series and the only players younger than stto to hit World Series home runs are Andrew Jones Miguel cabera and Micky M slider misses outside in this situation the Batters got to know what the pitcher is trying to do to them and that's trying to get him to hit the ball on the ground get two for one you got to look for something up in the zone at worst case scenario you over the sacrifice flag next pitch inside two balls no strikes good spot for the hitter definitely has the advantage in this count with Runners on look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch P keeping him close base runner with a one-way lead right there all he's trying to do is get a look at the pitcher move had no intent of stealing on that pitch that one spoiled and they count now two and one really great change of speeds he goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn't know what's coming next Lefty out of the stretch Runners at first and third foul ball another two- two upcoming kicks and fires to short could be two there's one and that's two marins had another with the solo shot it's now a 4 nothing ball game you're watching Major League Baseball on the show and we're back ready to go for the last half of the inning now the number two hitter Lane Thomas Thomas and the pitch and that one fouled off you know these Nationals just haven't produced as many competitive at bats as I'd like to see in this one I think things are happening a little quicker than this offense would like and we see it in the numbers they're hitting into a lot of outs early in the atbad and now one and two Ben he really sells the change up with that arm action foul ball still a one and two count [Applause] hard on the ground to First and he handles it himself for the out oh he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution win so now here's the DH Jesse Winker one for one with a single so far close one doesn't get the call ball one but misjudges this one and it falls and just about everyone standing here in the [Music] ballpark bounced to the right side and he takes it himself for the out the left fielder number eight Eddie Rosario here's Eddie Rosario 0 for one so [Applause] far that's a strike and it's all and one well he's been incredibly efficient in this one first pitch strike percentage over 70% that's well above League average and that's what's allowed him to pitch well up into this point [Applause] next offering way off the plate swing and a miss struck him out Nets go down one two three nothing do it for Washington they Trail it here for nothing and welcome back to the ballpark top five John shabi with Chris Singleton and leading it off Nick [Applause] fortez and here it comes just missed you know these Marlin doing a good job of Simply getting the bat on the ball in this game and the numbers back that up the numbers tell us they're averaging more than a hit every inning and they've only struck out twice so they keep finding ways to put their bat on the ball 20 into dir and there's the strike great one [Applause] that's a base hit so now back to the top of the order showed some really nice patience in that it bad worked himself into a good count nice line drive to the P side met it out front but just stayed through it nice and off and ripped it into the Outfield it appears Dave Martinez is ready to dive into his Bullpen as he comes out of the dug out to make the change DJ hers gives way and this is one he'd like to forget AR after this Hunter Harvey on The Pitch Out of the pen here well he's been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that's his first test this looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the [Applause] matchup Jazz Chisum Jr now one for two a little out front there as he swings through it fortez aboard here at first with nobody out and the slider just misses good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with you're better off taking that pitch [Applause] and a foul ball got him looking that's a strike down met it first stepping in briyan Del la Cruz [Applause] pitch misses inside one [Music] [Applause] and0 the one- one is fouled off that one almost got him straighten him up a little bit man it first one away he goes down looking wow that's a tough call for the hitter but the pitcher will take that all day long not quite in the strike zone but he found a spot that the Umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call so hitters are going to have to make an adjustment but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can Josh Bell at the plate [Applause] now that one a little bit high and that's ball one [Applause] and the righty deals that one pushed to the left and [Applause] foul so a foul ball makes it one and two two [Applause] outs still two and two after the foul ball rander kick steals set down on strikes called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone one left for Miami they lead four nothing we head to the bottom of the fifth and now up for Washington Luis Garcia and a pitch Off the Mark there and that's ball one well these gats just lacking dis IPL at the plate in this ball game so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they're chasing outside of the strike zone you can't do much of anything with those locations and that's been true again today and that one missing low and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that Strike Zone and Beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand the two two on the way knocks that one away and will do it again leftand batter waights spoils that one and it remains two and two left-and hitter Waits Line Drive face hit everything was on time and fluid in that swing got a pitch he could get the Barrel on and lined it into center for the knock those always feel good so man aboard and now the catcher comes up to H Hebert Ruiz struck out on just three pitches last time well the late off man gets on you want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two close one doesn't get the call and it's w to know right through there for a strike on the ground and it finds its way through for a hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out backto back base hits really nice job staying up the Middle with his approach he didn't try to do too much with the pitch just shot it through the infield now it's Nick senzel he popped out his first time lifted in the air right center field bruhan really on his horse great effort but it gets down they get the force for out number one wow this is one of those plays that happen sometimes but it never really should seems like you just got to bad read on the ball and the good throw from The Outfield was perfect to get the out here's Joey Gallow fly to left his first [Applause] time Machado is out and that is ball one two down nobody on and the tows are waving pitch misses there and it's two and0 well knowing that this hitter's got holes in his swing because he's got so much power pitcher still can get a little too tight afraid to make a [Music] [Applause] mistake the pitch fouled off left side [Applause] two on one out and another [Applause] [Applause] ball Garcia the runner at third szel at first one gone and now the Lefty Swang at a high fly ball left field under this one he makes the grab run attacks from third the throw is off the line and he's in score it's 4-1 in that situation you're looking to get something up in the zone that you can put in the air worst case scenario a sacrific fly to drive in that runner from third so they down to their not allow next to hit for the Nets number 30 as the Nationals are down to their final [Applause] out and first off ring is fouled
