AFL FINALS WEEK 1 REVIEW 2024 (POWER SMASHED + HAWKS PREMIERSHIP CHANCE?!!)

Intro good day guys welcome back to the band Riders YouTube channel and today we are here to review the first week of the finals of course the review is back we'll be doing the Bounty Riders votes for every single game of the final series as well and we will have a finals medalist for the very first time so make sure to stay tuned for that but of course a great final series that we were set up for in the first game a bit of a surprise I would say on the winners front but what an absolute shellacking Port Adelaide vs Geelong Cats the cats gave the power in the end Port Adelaide online now to potentially go out and straight sets once again the cats look really good and they're setting themselves up for a bit of a Premiership push they won in the end by whopping 84 points over ported out late away from home brilliant performance from them there was one injury concerned from this game it's a pretty big one it was to Zack buts he hurt his ribs in the first half and didn't return after halim now he did go to hospital after the game through a precautionary reason so he'll have to see if he is all good for the semifinal but getting to the game itself the cats really brought immense pressure early in this one and the cats were able to get the first two goals of the game now Port did k a goal soon after but the cats were really dominant for the first turn but really couldn't put it on the scoreboard jalong kicked three goals seven in the first quarter and should have led by a lot more but Port ad did kick the last two goals of the first term and at quarter time the cats only led by three points and despite the cats getting a very early goal in the second term Port ad did take a lot of the momentum from that first quarter they responded with two goals in a row and actually took the lead for the first time but as soon as Port ad took the lead the cats were really not taking that very lightly now the cats kicked the five goals in a row and gave themselves a game high 26 point lead now luckily for Port aday they did get the final goal of the first half to reduce the margin to 20 points but it was really set up that the cats were really dominant in the first half and should have led by a lot more and going into the second half the cats ran Riot jalong were amazing but Port Adelaide honestly in that second half were very embarrassing cats ped on five goals in the third term and Port Adelaide were goalless now the cats did kick seven behind and could have let Again by a lot more but a 3/4 time they led by 55 points and Port Adelaide really didn't fire a shot in the last quarter either the cats just continued on their merry way and the power looked like a bunch of witches cones out there it was again a really embarrassing performance and the cats just took full advantage the cats keep six goals to one in the final term and ran out winners by a whopping 84 points so take no credit away from jalong they were brilliant on Thursday night just shut down every single Avenue Port aday tried to use to try and get the way forward and Port aday didn't have a plan B they look very poor for a lot of this game Ken hinkley's job is on the line next week so many talking points going out to next week in the semi final but jalong they've I don't think anyone really saw them challenging for a Premiership but you have to give them a chance now they get to a home prelim final be the MCG for them but it's still a home final and the cats you got to give them a chance now the they stand up in the big moments they've set themselves up Chris Scott absolutely amazing coaching this year it would be amazing to see them win it but they have every chance now moving to the statistics of this game Gran Myers top scored with a 117 Guthry with a 114 along with Johan Mana Max Holmes with Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn the 112 OE wies with the 99 and then Ryan Burton with the 96 and now of course we get to the votes in the first final three votes went to Max Holmes two votes went to Shawn mana and the one vote went to Jeremy Cameron after that we get to the first elimination final of this weekend it was the Bulldogs up against Hawthorne it was a heavyweight bout despite being a elimination final between these two teams there was nearly 100,000 people at the MCG and it was the Hollywood Hawks who were able to rise above the bulldog the young Hawks who stood up strong and they give themselves a real chance next week they won by 37 points over the dogs 99- 62 now the dogs started pretty strong in this game and took the early ascendency but as the quarter went on both teams really had their moments but it was the Western Bulldogs who finished the first quarter strong with the final three goals of it and a quarter time led by 12 points now the Hawks really started a lot better in the second term as they kicked the first two goals of it and the young Hawks really starting to win a lot more of the territory battle now the dogs responded with a quick goal with then the True Hollywood Hawks started to shine through hathorne finished with the last three goals of the quarter and at halim they led by 11 points and the Haws continued on their merry way in the third quarter they did start the quarter with four behinds but were able to kick a little bit straighter as the quarter went on and the dogs really struggled to retain the footy and once they had possession the Hawks really put on a lot of pressure and it was really great to see the Hawks pressure on the ball but also the retention with the footy was just brilliant to see real maturity was shown and at 3/4 time the Hawks led by 36 points and this game was all bit done now the dogs to kick the first goal of the final turn to give themselves somewhat of a chance but that was quickly extinguished as the Hawks held it up really nicely wouldn't let the dogs get consecutive goals and it was a really goal for goal final term as the Hawks will continue on to go to the semi-final now against Port Adelaide and the dogs are out so I think the dogs honestly it's a pretty big failure of a season I will say I think if they didn't drop those games like against the crows and there were a couple of games they dropped in those final six or seven weeks or so that could have got them into the top four and now they're out in the first week of the final so that's really disappointing for the dogs but Hawthorne amazing to watch they are such a great team I mean it's crazy that they are in a semi-final right now because next year they are going to be almost up there with a Premiership favorite they are going to look amazing this year imagine if they could go the way and at the moment I give them a chance they've got Paul Adelaide next week who are going to be so shaky and Hawthorne what a team to watch great performance from their young players now moving to the statistics of this game Lloyd M top scored with the 137 he was brilliant yuk with the 136 James Sicily 115 de brosio with the 114 tror 106 and then and then Conor McDonald with the 102 now we get to the votes in this game three votes went to James Sicily two votes to John yukim and the one vote to Lloyd Meek so next up we get to the second qualifying Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants final guys Saturday afternoon Sydney Derby swans vers Giants and this lived up to every single expectation what a final it was the Giants who led all afternoon were caught up by the Swans in the end who showed a little bit of class Isaac Keeny LED from the front and the swans won by six points in the end 88 to the swans 82 to the Giants now the Giants started brilliantly in this game they were immense with their pressure and the swans couldn't get their Ball moving forward at all and the Giants just kept them crabbing across the ground for a lot of the first quarter and pretty much for the first half but the only problem the Giants had was in front of goal they finished with two goals five for the quarter and despite leading by seven points at quarter time they should have led by a lot more now gws continued with their pressure in the second term in this swans continued to struggle the teams traded goals early but the Giants did break away with three goals in a row to get to a game high 27 point late at that stage now gws did get five goals in the second term and led by 26 points late but with Isaac Heeney getting a late goal just before halftime he reduced the margin to 20 points now CI started really well in the second half with two early goals and finally started to get the ball moving forward and getting their ball movement game going but the Giants really responded well they kicked the next three goals and pushed the margin back to that 27o lead and it just felt at this stage that the Giants had the answers every single time the swans would come at them now the swans did kick the last goal of the third quarter and were down by 21 points at three quarter time but again the swans would start the final term a lot better than the Giants they did get an early goal but the Giants did quickly respond and like I said they just had all the answers it felt like gws but the one thing that was happening was the Giants pressure that they put on throughout the whole game they did start the tire which gave Sydney a chance and that's when they made their push led by Isaac Heeney Chad Warner in the sub and Braden Campbell the swans finished with the last three goals of the game which included a Joel Mighty goal which was basically his first touch of the whole game and the swans were basically able to steal this win against wws and held on by six points so in a final it doesn't matter how you win them you just have to do it and the swans held strong with the Giants throughout the whole afternoon it was a great game gws lost no supporters from that probably gained a few time one of the best swans games I've seen in some time heart was in my throat for a lot of it Giants will go next week to the winner of Brisbane and Carlton and that's going to be a big game as well but the Giants go in heavy favorites they were brilliant today and if it wasn't for the fact that they tied in the last quarter they would have won this game and would have been deserving winners moving to the statistics of this game though ja Lloyd top scored with the 149 Isaac Keeny was brilliant 126 James ping with 103 Grundy 198 Whitfield 94 and then Chad Warner great last quarter from him 92 now let's get to the votes in this game three votes Isaac Heeney two votes to Jack Buckley and the one vote to Jake Lloyd now Jack Buckley he was brilliant down back with Sam Taylor I gave the votes to Jack Buckley over Sam Taylor Just because I felt like he was a lot better on the rebound as well Sam Taylor was just the brick wall either of them could have got votes here but Jack Buckley great job from him deserve two votes probably would have got three if they were able to get over the line so now guys we get to the last Brisbane Lions vs Carlton final of the weekend it was Brisbane up against Carlton and as most people expected it was the Brisbane Lions who were triumphant in the end against the blues who really struggled throughout majority of the game they did catch back to make the scoreboard look a little bit more respectable but it was the Lions who won by 28 points 99 to the Lions 71 to the blues and there was one injury concerned from this game which was Jackson pay really unfortunate for him because he just returned back to the team but he hurt his knee in the second ter when he landed awkwardly from a marking contest and was subbed out soon after now it is claimed at this stage that he's done his MCL so he will be going for scans in the week to see what is the real concern and if it is confirmed to be an MCL injury that's really unfortunate for him he just returned back to the the team missed out on the Grand Final last year dur the injury so hopefully he's all good and can somehow make a return maybe not next week but if the lines can continue to go through the finals maybe he can return but moving to the game itself the Brisbane Lions started amazingly in this game they dominated the territory battle and dominated most facets of the game Colton really didn't show up in the first quarter or the first half it was really embarrassing but full credit to the liines as they really brought the Heat their pressure was over 200 on the rating meter in the first quarter and at the first change not only did they keep Carlton scoreless but they led by 35 points and like I said Colton didn't improve in the second ter and the Lions kept on firing brisbane's defense held up every single time Carlton tried to even attempt to move outside of their defensive half and the liines at one point LED 60 to Zer it was an absolute embarrassing performance by Carlton at that stage however they finally got their first goal of the game late in the second ter and at halftime Carlton was still down by a pretty comprehensive margin of 48 points now the blues started pretty well in the third quarter with the first three goals to make it five in a row either side of halftime and did give themselves maybe a slight chance of a comeback but just couldn't continue to get closer when they really needed to and the only reason why Brisbane didn't put this game to bed earlier was the fact that they didn't kick straight as they've done for a lot of the last month of footy they just couldn't finish the job when they needed to they kick one goal five in the third term and it just needs to improve because if it doesn't they're going to struggle next week against the giant but a three quarter time the line still LED comfortably by 40 points but heading into the final turn the blues did kick the first two goals of it to give themselves maybe a sneaky chance but the Lions finally put the game to bed finishing with four of the next five goals to put this game to bed and the blues did finish with the last three goals of the game to put some respectability onto the scoreboard but in a final it doesn't really matter how much you win by is the fact that you win and the Lions walk away winners by 28 points so was a good victory from Brisbane their first half was comprehensive but I think Carlton really lived up to the expectation if they were making up the numbers I know they made a lot of changes throwing all caution to the Wi but Carlton really making up the numbers in the end would have been interesting to see if Freedman did make the finals how they would have done but Brisbane I still give them a chance of being able to go all the way I feel like I'm the only one at this point but Brisbane really have to improve next week if they're going to beat the Giants the one thing they do have going their way is the fact that the Giants played a really tough game of football while the Lions played a pretty cruisy game so maybe the Lions will be okay for next week but at this stage the Giants going heavy favorites in that game but a good win from the Lions moving to the statistics of this game though H clage top scored with the 118 Dane Zoro with the 109 George hu with the 108 Oscar Semi Finals Macker with the 106 Nick Newman with the 992 and Jared Barry with the 90 now we get to the votes in this game three votes went to Dan Zoro two votes went to H mcclugage and the one vote went to Jared Barry but of course guys with that being said we move to the semi-finals and of course from now if you win you're through you lose you're out the first Final Friday night September the 13th 710 for local time Port Adela up against Hawthorne what a clash this is going to be Hawthorne actually go in as favorites I don't think there's been many semi-finals where the team away from home going in as favorites so Hawthorne all to play for for Port Adelaide Ken hinkley's jobs on the line on that game as well and then Saturday night massive game Giants V Brisbane a lot of people would have expected these two to be going up against each other in the next game but it's all to play for gws if they go out in straight set it's going to be a failure of a season in my opinion Brisbane they lose as well probably a failure for them so whoever loses this game from the expectations at the start of the Year both teams whoever lose it really go down as a failure of a season so we'll really see how that plays out early predictions at this stage I'm actually going to be going for Hawthorne in that in that first final and the second one I'm probably going to go to the Giants just because it's at home but guys that is all we have for Outtro today's review of the first round of
