Harrison Burton delivers Wood Brothers Racing win No. 100 in massive upset | Motorsports on NBC

I think it says a lot about the young man when he will not be in the 21 car next year that this entire team comes out to congratulate him mom Kim just behind us with tears in her eyes not only the 100th win for the Wood Brothers number one for you Harrison Burton welcome to the playoffs for you personally what does this mean uh I don't know I cried the whole uh Victory lab uh obviously uh got fired from this job and uh I wanted to do everything uh for the Wood Brothers that I could they've given me an amazing opportunity in life and uh to get them 100 on my way out is amazing we're in the playoffs now let's go to Darlington and see what happens so I want to talk to you about this team who could have easily given up once the ride changed and they knew Josh Barry was getting in this car but they never gave up on you what was the point of how they were able to Rally around you it's amazing um it's been the hardest three years of my life obviously the hardest three years for some of these guys' lives and uh to win the way that we just did to beat the best in the business Kyle Bush across the line uh it's pretty fantastic so uh I made a bet with Jeremy and my crew chief that if we won we're staying here and driving home so we'll be be at a bar somewhere come find us and uh we're going to celebrate this one who are we going to have to calm down more your mom or your dad my mom my dad was pretty calm on the radio uh my fiance Jenna and my mom are both crying and all those people have been with me in the worst days of my life and the best days and uh good to get Dex Imaging and Victor Lane and get them another best day it is a terrific day for the Wood Brothers but Lee I think you said it best what a night for the Burton Family Harrison B now in the playoffs for the win at Daytona Kyle bus did everything right tonight how do you square this one uh just finished second you know it's all good we uh were really really really lucky tonight so miss a few of them crashes so all good just uh real proud of everybody Randall all the guys everybody at RCR ECR they did a great job and brought a fast car and um you know was hoping that we could get those free number eight specials on Monday for everybody get some chicken tenders rolling but um wasn't me to be so um we'll take this and got a good little stretch here going with these last three weeks and hope that we can do uh what we need to do next week how quick take on the final lap what could you have done different now that you've seen it you haven't seen a lot of it but uh what do you think yeah know I haven't seen any of it but just from what I recall uh we got off of two and somehow the bottom Lane got misc conjul and um broke all of our momentum and the Top Lane just rolled and so once they uh once they got in front with as little as energy as there was with the lack of cars that there were it was hard to make anything happen from turn four to start finish so besides just flat out wrecking them um you know there was nothing else I could do Kyle can you go and win the southern 500 next week yeah I mean we want to we uh we ran good there uh the first time I ran with these guys um early last year you know but uh early this year we we struggled mightily so uh we'll just have to go with hopefully a really good package that works and get our job done be his last shot almost had it tonight at Daytona some of the most ex unexpected and best stories come out of Daytona and Cody you're one of those tonight what's going through your mind right now I'm on Cloud9 right now just um God is so good to get me back on track and being out here racing to Daytona is such a phenomenal experience just can't say enough about Parts Plus Ponto Jacob company um Arrowhead all the people on board that got this this bullet up front today and uh just thanks to the team everyone back home at Rick whereare racing just um really really cool to see how far we've come and can't wait to see what we can put together these last 10 R of the Season what Us in the seat with you on that final restart uh where were you and and what did you see and were you just kind of hoping you wouldn't see another caution yeah for sure I mean at that point in the race you know people are starting to lose their minds and things are getting pretty hectic but I knew I was in good hands when I had Brett kazlowski behind me so having our alliance teammate with the six behind us I knew I had a good Sho behind me so um you know really lined up perfect got to say big thanks to Brad for keeping us up front there and you know unfortunately just wasn't wasn't quite fast enough to make a move on the guys in front of us but still uh putting rickw racing towards the front of the pack today was a phenomenal experience and uh can't wait to do it again career best finish tonight for Cody we fourth at Daytona Ty Gibbs follows up his last week finish of third with a fifth place finish here tonight how important was a solid day for you in the team as you inch closer to the playoffs yeah it was really important um you know I'm glad that we uh got the finish this race it was just kind of got really messy there at the end which is you know really relatively um you know similar to what happens at all these races but I was just you know happy to have a good clean day good points day um thank you to the Ronald Reagan movie Ronald Reagan's PR proud to have on my car I'm a true American so this is really cool and um glad that we could come home with the top five and um yeah thank you that Monster energy Toyota he gets us everybody that's a part of my deal so um really cool congrats to Harrison to getting his first win um excited that we have a good points day let's go have a good day next week as you head to Darlington plus 39 what do you feel like you and the team need to do next week to solidify your spot um just have a good run I think we we finished second there in the spring so I think we have the speed to go win it so I think it' be cool to go win and get my first win at the southern 500 would be awesome top five finish here tonight for Tai Gibbs 10th Place finish for Chris busher tonight puts him 21 to the good above the cut line now heading into the final race there what kind of comfort does that give you and is there some disappointment and one that got away tonight at Daytona yeah our Fifth Third Bank Mustang was so good uh we're able to push unbelievably well and uh make a ton of speed so it's a lot of fun um for for a long while there caught up in uh in another accident and we're just trying to to get it to the end and um you know ultimately it was uh not the day we needed but um yeah I mean we go into Darlington uh you know points being what they are yeah there's a little bit of cushion there but we know we were really good there last time um try and try and seal the deal this go around and uh make it easy going into the playoffs a Ford won the race your Ford was strong as you talked about I mean what about the company coming here this weekend with such a great effort yeah I mean uh from qualifying to the race it's uh we're obviously showing some uh some tremendous progress so uh it's been a big big turnaround on the year for for Ford as a whole and so I appreciate all the help that we're getting from them and um I know this is uh one means a lot so thanks to uh everybody there and Rous Yates and everybody that's uh giving us power we need to go these things and and be competitive so we're in the hunt again uh you know just uh got caught up and didn't have a chance to really fight for it there will you be able to relax this week or are you going to be all tensed up with one to go uh we'll take a couple days we'll take a breather um we'll get to Darlington it'll be time to get down to business we'll see him down there see if he can lock it up and get into the playoffs at Darlington Bubba Wallace finishes sixth here Bubba with the newer winner there Harrison burn it puts you 21 points out of the playoff cut line as we head into Darlington what's the sentiment heading there you got one car fighting for a regular season championship and another car right around a bubble it's unacceptable so I'll take all that weight on my shoulders should have won multiple times this year and I haven't so we don't need deserve to be here and we are so I got to go win next week that's it Christopher Bell matches his Daytona 500 finish of third I know not the result you wanted as you go through that last lap restart what could you have done differently I don't know I mean just uh I'm bummed about it because obviously you want to you know push the leader out and have a shot to win yourself but I just never I never really felt in control and I was always chasing my car so I never was confident enough to get up behind the eight and push him so uh disappointed with that last ren white Checker but overall a great great day and it's one of those races where whenever we look back at it we'll be happy but right now it stinks let's catch up with Parker rof here Parker and Parker great job tonight finished seventh but that push to Harrison Burton put in position to get the lead and to go for the win how'd you know to do that how did that come together yeah I mean I just spent the first two stages trying to figure out the runs and you know just pushing in the back a little bit just trying to figure out how these cars push and uh I feel like I just uh I pushed him clear and knew that I needed to get myself clear and to turn three if I wanted a shot and uh when I didn't get clear I knew that I put myself in a little bit worse of position than I wanted to be in and uh I kind of needed those two to kind of fight a little bit there at the end for a chance and uh I'm overall very happy with it and thanks to Funway and everyone of the beard family and beard Motorsports for all they've done and uh I'm happy but I definitely want more and I just wish I could have got them a Victory Lane tonight only your second Cup Series start to get a top 10 what does this mean to you at the world center racing yeah it's definitely uh like I said uh it's definitely like a dream to be here in the Cup Series so definitely very grateful happy with our day but I just just uh it always makes you want more as a racer great job thank you hi I'm Parker
