hurricane H is pulling away from Hawaii after it pounded the Big Island last night and this morning with strong winds heavy rain and high waves around 25% of the big island is without power after wind gusts over 60 to 70 mph H made its closest approach to Hawaii with winds around 85 mph around 5:00 a.m. this morning the winds are coming down but it's still going to be a category 1 hurricane for a little bit it's moving away from the big Islands so the tropical storm warnings will probably be dropped soon but still Gusty winds will continue to released tonight because of terrain funneling flash flood warnings and flood advisories are still in place across the Big Island there's been a lot of flooding so far some places on the big island have seen 12 to 16 in of rain other islands are seeing lower rainf amounts also high waves and surf are toning down somewhat but will still be continuing for some time H is expected to weaken as a tropical storm as it moves off to the West this week
