Taylor Fritz was unable to end America's wait for a men's Grand Slam winner as he lost to janx sinner in the US Open final in New York Taylor Fritz admitted he felt he had almost led a lot of people down after losing the US Open final to janx siner it sucks he said the Californian had been bidding to become the first American man to win the singles title in New York since Andy rodic in 2003 and the number 12 seed was cheered on by a partisan craft out in the Arthur Ash Stadium including Taylor Swift and her NFL boyfriend Travis Kelce but in his first Grand Slam final the big serving Fritz made only 38% of first serves in a nervous opening set and he never really recovered he had sered broken six times including his last two service games after serving for the third set at 5'4 and gifted the world number one his match point by shanking a swing volley over the Baseline he lost 63 6475 in a large one-sided Final in his postmatch Courtside interview Fritz said congratulations to Yanik he was too good I know we have been waiting for an American champion for a long time sorry I couldn't get it done I am going to keep working and hopefully I will get it done next time Jessica Pula lost in the women's final to Belarusian Arena sabalenka while Ben Shelton Francis TFO and Fritz all reached the last eight here but it is now 83 Majors since an American man won a grand slam title and asked later in his press conference if he can call his US Open a success American number one Fritz said not yet there's obviously a lot of positives and when I get some time to cool down then I'll be happy about the fact that I made it to the finals and stuff like that but right now I'm pretty just disappointed in how like just a lot of things on the court how I played how I hit certain shots it sucks and I'm not saying that it necessarily would have made a difference
