on our thoughts let's get started first game of the 2023 final series and it's Thursday MCG 720 it's the first qualifying final between Collingwood and Melbourne welcome to the finals gentlemen boys yep it's been a long road hasn't it it has and that's juicy that is Juicy to start with it has so all those uncontested footballers thanks for your services when you're not required anymore all the contested footballers get in and do your job for the next four weeks true that's a good way to uh well it's true because the champion data stats says that the last five years contested possessions have stayed the same average as home and away okay but when it gets to finals the uncontested positions have they drop significantly well okay which means it's contested footy whoever is the best I know who the Premiership favorite is so let's get into Collingwood and Melbourne and its enormous ramifications for this game already I think for sure because I reckon the winner this shapes the finals to win the flag yeah well at least play a grand final plus the losers is going to go straight set well that too and the loser faces a long tough road to get there yeah correct you wouldn't want to be facing uh Carlton or Sydney in the second round absolutely not so Collingwood Melbourne last played in the final in 1989 at vfl Park jeez and the demons got the chocolates really at refill Park in a knockout final okay okay the Gary line days Gary Brian Wilson was playing Ryan Wilson so just feel but with the injuries first up um Elliot cork thigh they reckon he will probably be right to play dagos won't play this tracking the second final tracking better decos well sorry it'll take us more more um clay and Murphy will play well that that's thanks to the week off I guess right well that helps definitely as much as we don't like it see the week off helped I'm talking about injuries I'm not talking about rest so I went on about wrestling plays last week and I stand by that anyway um but I think they're all going to play except daycos basically yeah yeah um and Melbourne lose melchem they do with it what a blow he's a bigger loss in what you think yeah because he was playing good footy like I said last week and he's important to the structure yeah they're forward stroke they're struggling yeah they've tried I told you shacky Grundy they try to make it to a Fork's head yeah I don't have four yeah um freach who came back and kicked five but if you're gonna rely on and kick five every week you're gonna oh you're fine with another ball game no shacky you just can't trust him enough no you're not playing no way and Ben Brown's not playing vfl footy so he's been bound playing again no well he's still injuries back so he'll retire he's one really yeah I reckon yeah he hasn't played a lot of stuff so the last time these two teams met King's birthday what a classic that was oh yes that was a great game if that's what things to come that would have been absolutely cracking again yeah so the pie um Melbourne one which because at the time I said Collingwood had won yeah you did but Collingwood ran outrun ran home hard that night yeah just just yeah so they go in obviously Melbourne's won the last six games good little good run into the foreign does that matter going in no no why with all the with all the players are getting back and I know this sounds stupid but milkshake missing his right what he said structure kicks goals can take a mark there's I know Fritch is back and he's good but fridge I'm going to kick five against Colin but let me tell you a little bit of them both like oh look I mean there's more than just fridge to to worry about you know petrock will probably play a lot forward but yeah but melksham's just that two or three goals just that yeah he's a warring Ford he's like the Gary Rowan like yeah yeah he worries yeah yeah okay yeah you might not be might not touch it for a game but then next game come out and kick five he's always a danger you know because someone was saying got it correct me if I'm wrong Tom McDonald might might make an appearance he has to play Kick five last week in the vfl so I think he has to play well yeah he might play they've got to play him don't they he's almost leaned towards me I've been a few plays like I think he's a big plus for Melbourne I I just don't think he's up to it I don't think he can just come into a final go to Kmart and buy form yeah that's true AFL form not B file form I thought he's been there yeah he's been there and done it yeah yeah I can't believe I can't believe they'll go on bananas to get Grundy and he can't even get a look into this final against his old side yeah they thought Max gone was going to be a Ford and it didn't turn out he's the best rack of in the AFL right yeah and they tried to work around it didn't work that's it it didn't work it was a good experiment didn't work so interesting stat here that Melbourne um both clubs have had averaged 24 Shots on goal and both averaging 13 goals a game so how that's tight it's incredible so we just flip a coin it's really it's really tight um and also um Melbourne lead the league in turnovers Collingwood probably enjoy that yeah so sorry Melvin the league in turnover better than the bottom four or five stars he's the league wow are you staggered by that guy yeah hmm that says a little bit about the defense Melbourne exactly I know exactly and he said that Melbourne's the best fourth quarter team so are they the team that's able to stem Collingwood in their run home in last quarters perhaps because I thought Colin would have been the best okay well I'll say this then if you're talking about but if they turn over enough like you're saying early on yeah they're not playing against Sydney or North that's right Colin will punish you that's right having said so that game could be over if they don't watch himself no yeah true have you said that Oliver's been a huge inclusion no doubt lucky it's a good thing you've played two games just yeah you're right so at the contest yeah let's break down the game at the contest your thoughts on Melbourne and Collingwood collingwood's outside yeah you know they've got to go that goes through there he's sort of on yeah yeah Josh daikos can hurt you yeah he does it yeah not not the contested ball no he's talking no no on the outside outside when it gets to the outside if it gets on the outside it's not safe more than often oh yeah look out that's my well that's in possession so what about in possession then collingwood's better with the footy they use it less well you just said about Melbourne having the most turnovers that just proves it proves it right there so is it a uh send the square contest like whoever wins absolutely that's what I think I got a question for you so we talked about Collingwood do they use the ball less when I say use it less do they get rid of it quicker than any other side so they'll get and go there's an option back yeah bang because they're they're so they're less less um positions positions let's use so let's yeah less positions because they go direct yeah already I know because there's a couple more points on this game I know that already I could see Collingwood really yeah go on no no I want to hear what else okay so let's talk about both teams behind the ball then they're both just as good yes oh there's any more needs to come back clearly he will they struggle with it who's the other one at the back there um it was in the old Australian Squad by the way what did we just think we had a beautiful uh dinner at paladinas again that was true thank you all the staff and Joey uh jeez Melbourne's set up better in defense oh man leave her clearly yeah they're set up better so again that quick ball movement from Colin would might be able to get but you have to go quick against Melbourne they're actually you're gone you're right about that you're So Gone my answer to that is the best as good as each other but maybe Melvin the lever mating but a crawling would move it quick enough they can hurt him so I've been thinking all week about okay may and lever how do you quell them right do you play Cameron Frampton and Mason Cox I think so because they've only got really two big tall Defenders Melbourne other than that they're all so small they go third and try and extend them and go okay well may has to go on in and that's a fair point not saying he's going to rip the game apart there's a fair point I've got it I'm sorry no I was just going to say because you've got to kind of you're gonna try and take them out of the game totally agree you know what I mean I've got another thing that I was going to say maybe you can even oversee them when I say that I mean you've seen it happen a many a time to go you get the ball two bounces off and kick you 50. they're capable of kicking goals on that 50 or just behind that so they go over the top of both of them and that is also that is that's also a good plot with the smalls that they could employ go through with Smalls in front of the ball have Good Smalls Melbourne in front of the ball not so yeah so you're thinking so I'm thinking so maybe does my check have less influence on this game perhaps if that's the way their thought processes you know me and lever are going to sit in that box well they'll try to you know that imaginable box yeah so you're either short with hit UPS and go on over to the point of what are you saying what you're saying yeah or you're right you're going and best user in the game he's a joke so with that I think Melbourne wins well I was going to ask you about the keys to winning I think that I think that that ball use what are the keys to winning in your verdict your verdict First Melbourne because of collingwood's ball use points uh under 10. I I think it's going to be really tight keys to winning you know I'm gonna say Collingwood yes you have to I just think you have to I have to but second week if they lose would be interesting what he says Ah true I just think I just think Collingwood uh we're talking about a couple of minutes ago about they use the ball less less position I think they can get Melbourne like that with Melbourne if you give them time like you said the lever and the Maze of the world we use that cliche give them time Yep they're gonna they're gonna pick it off every time but if Colin would do what they do best and use that ball list and just go direct Collingwood for me so they win the stoppages win the first possession yeah get it in quick you know what that's the recipe of comments first 15 weeks so I've got a down pat for me Collingwood 15 points are they can't even believe this stoppage game yeah well they need their stoppage game up and their position game up and I'm not sure they can do it against Melbourne's um contested Bulls beasts so I'm trusting Melbourne okay there's seven points they're not the bit of time but they match up well against yeah and I just trust Melbourne defensively I trust Melbourne defensively to fast to defend Collingwood and whatever that's fine but you trust them defensively but I'll challenge you on they falls on barring fridge that if McDonald doesn't play they've those Judd was was good one of them yeah but Sydney won both of those finals as they and then there was one back in 1986 you know it's interesting these two sides of that was that's four finals no Brisbane Brisbane by three girls I've got them at 21 points under 10. 16 points Brisbane just because of the big boys in the forward line I think she said I want to kick straight that too but but 16
