Mark Zuckerberg's "Censorship Confession" — What's His TRUE Agenda?

meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg submitted a letter to the house Judiciary Committee stating that he regrets his role that his company has played in helping the Biden Administration censor Americans and suppressing information ahead of the 2020 election here to discuss is Andrew chapados host of unauthorized opinions and writer for Blaze news so Andrew thanks for joining us so how critical is this admittance from Zuckerberg especially leading up to this election in nov I think it's really critical and I think what most people are going to say is why now but the actual admittance by Zuckerberg or the Zuck if you prefer it is huge right because you've had so many years of people denying and defending social media websites like YouTube and Facebook and of course meta as it's called denying that there was ever any election interference or denying that there is any censoring or silencing of voices that the machine didn't agree with so now to have Zuckerberg come out and actually ad and admit this it'll be interesting to see how it plays out you know in leftwing media and other sources closer to to the White House at this point and what their opinion is on this and how it changes but I think what everyone's asking is why now why is he doing this at this very moment what's inspiring him and if this is a little bit of a a 5 12 13d chess happening right now who knows Andrew we should definitely get into that but first just talk to us a little bit about the reception um you know how's this been received in the tech community and Beyond I mean I see a lot of people for instance first saying well you just said oh well he he actually said it he said it right here he admitted that this happened um but but what else is going on out there well people are saying you know everything from uh I lost money from this are is there going to be any sort of you know uh roll back to the amount of money I should have been is their reach going to be re re uh you know readminister because everybody knew I think around 2020 the beginning of 2020 that they sort of flipped a switch and started censoring and silencing and pushing down voices they really did this on YouTube a lot and in the last couple years they escalated it on meta platforms so people are really talking about what does this mean for the future is Facebook going to allow their reach to flourish and maybe they'll be remonetized and be able to make an income off of the social media access or will there just be sort of going forward this understanding Facebook doesn't really want to get involved in your politics they don't want to be influencing elections and that's what I think the predominant narrative is amongst Tech sources and people who are around this a lot where they're thinking Mark Zuckerberg's been hanging out with Dana White with Joe Rogan he's in jiujitsu tournaments he thinks Trump is a badass now is has he been influenced so far that he doesn't even want to be involved in leftwing politics anymore and I think you see a lot of that and I think you see a lot of him focusing on on meta products like the augmented reality and things like that so I think people are going to start thinking that the Zuck just doesn't want to play ball anymore but on the other hand other people and I think you heard Patrick B David say this what is he doing is is he trying to set himself up is he trying to get out ahead of a whistleblower of some kind or is he just playing ball because he thinks Trump's going to get in so there's a lot of questions but I think people are starting to think that Zuckerberg doesn't want to be involved in you know very high politics anymore that's all great but when you look at it this actually did happen at Facebook right this did happen even if Zuck wants to get away from it right now so how is this letter going to come about and maybe even just try and change some of Facebook's reputation you know it would have to be something drastic I think we can't just say just because he's admitted this he's a saint now or he completely believes something different because this is stuff that people knew they knew the hunter B laptop wasn't a Russian conspiracy you know they knew that the covid vaccine talks or even the memes that were taken round taken down around it weren't harmful they knew that the other research from other doctors who were banned off of everything everybody kind of knew who wanted to know that that stuff shouldn't have been taken down lab leak Theory and everything like that so I think it remains to be seen how far Zuckerberg's willing to go to repair that reputation he he most of the time I think when he goes to Congress or to some sort sort of hearing he's focused on making memes I think that's probably what his people tell him uh you know sip your water I think that stuff is all coordinated I think it's to take a uh to make a distraction to take the focus off of what he's actually there for which in the past has been the censorship he's now admitting so I think moving forward he needs to do more than what he's actually done through this letter to convince people to trust him and and that comes through action say you know uh these people have been censored we're lifting any breaches say that we're going to start working with people or just say come out and say we don't want to monetize political stuff just come out and say it until he actually makes more action regarding this or or you know pushes the ball towards somebody else who says they're going to take care of it on his team and and start reaching out to people I don't think people should trust him uh outright anymore I mean where's that fight with Elon Musk that never happened so I I I personally am holding out some uh some some hope here as much as I want to get my hopes up that the Zuck is our guy now I'm I'm holding out that uh that Glee yeah I think that's wise I mean we should talk about this a little bit I mean I I think you're you're definitely right I when I when I drill down to the core of what we can actually know right in these two opposing sides um I I would say this first we do know that he's way more complicated than people make him out to be on the right sometimes is simply some kind of uh lib he's devoted to his business he's devoted his entire life to his business uh and you know he's a very talented guy and so what everyone was saying in the past was he was basically crushed I mean the government went this is proof of it he's saying it out loud the government came to him and threatened his business and put enormous pressure on him and here's something I think our audience needs to know people like Jack dorsy uh were not sitting there as kings of the world they were dealing with forces that are much more powerful than them and their company namely the United States government or say China right uh so that's not giving him some Grace for his decisions but it's saying he's in a very compc ated spot in the very beginning and he was crushed he had to move his business in a different direction uh and and he was definitely crushed I'm also hearing the same things you are about his progression that he is uh you know slowly changed over time and some of his inner self is maybe coming to his outer self as he you know holds the American flag and goes uh goes waterboarding um so so I think your skepticism Justified what about this though another thing that people are saying is here's a guy the makavelian angle the Practical sort of makavelian businessman here's a guy who controls something that has its fingers on the pulse of billions of people through around the world he has more information about what people are thinking than almost anyone else on the planet and maybe this is a sign that he's predicting what's going to happen in the fall I I think that's a valid point I mean if he has information which has been sold in the past uh to remind everybody that he knows how people are going to vote in this election and they've done studies on this the social media platforms are able to predict a lot of things if he knows how it's going to go in November then he knows by this judgment that he must know that Trump's probably going to win and he wants to get out ahead of that saying that he's he's awesome saying he's very American you know cozying up with the right that new inner right-wing Circle that shows up at UFC events there may be something that sucker knows that the rest of rest of us don't we can't just you know like you said write him off as some you know Kookie programmer who's played by Jesse Eisenberg and outsmarted the Wile the Winkle boss twins this is a guy who's got access to a ton of information that the regular folk do not have he's got billions of dollars he can go anywhere and talk to anybody and he is saying that the the government that's in power right now pressured him and told him to take things down and told him to censor things that's a huge huge uh criticism to make of the president and the people in the white house right now and for him to do that that that would make you think that he knows that they're not going to be in power for much longer because why else would he do that unless it's just some you know spur of the moment or you know pre-planned thing where he he's coming into being a better person and he's just growing as an individual and he wants to help Free Speech all of a sudden if that was the case then you'd be like well where were you in the Last 5 Years Mark when everybody was complaining about this something has happened or something is going to happen that he probably knows about and he wants to get out ahead of it or he just knows something you know I I think the the idea that he's just having a I don't even know what the term is but he's just you know waking up I think the odds of that one are pretty far down the list of of reasons why he's releasing this letter right now [Music]
