here getting the nod on the mound Joe musgrow but Chris he hasn't exactly been Stellar here on his own M well I'll say this every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans in front of the city and you know this guy no different he wants to be more effective here so look at the numbers they haven't been great at home I'm sure he wants to turn that around and we'll see if he's able to start that in this one and stepping in is the Speedy Parker Meadow here's a 2-1 that's down and in really good take especially with two strikes sharp grounder that's through for a base hit man aboard on the leadoff single everything came together for him couldn't get any air under it but he smoked that ball back up the middle timing was just perfect got great wood on it and there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it and now let's see if they force some action with good Wheels on the bases here's Riley green the one-1 runner on the go pitch in for a strike throw is low and he can't pick it well he's batting lead off and he's acting like a traditional leadoff hitter gets on base to start the game then puts himself on second with a nice stolen bag I think that sets the tone for the offense for sure righty delivers knocks that one away and we'll do it again [Applause] swing and a miss chase the fast up the ladder for strike three and next up for the Tigers Matt beerling the pitch and that one fouled off Meadows over at second one [Applause] down got him looking and there's two away most guys guys are very aggressive when they see the stakes out there on the base paths and can't understand why he wasn't ready to swing the bat you've got to be ready to swing the bat in a situation like that with the go-ahead run in scoring position now here's the Tigers cleanup hitter carry Carpenter man on second two down and another ball [Applause] rander kick deals that one fouled off two and [Applause] two and it's second just outside and it's three and two Jace Young in the onck circle [Applause] leftand hitter Waits fights it off you'll see another Well lots of pitches thrown in this first inning it's kind of that nightmare scenario for starting pitching but you know what it's still early enough he can settle in he can get some length if he just clean fires across the diamond third out and that ends the frame a hit and an error in the inning but they fail to score and now the Padre's get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game back here with my pal singy and taking the ball for Detroit casy mindes and singy it's Unique these days but he's more of a pitch to contact type of guy yeah Bo he doesn't rely too heavily on the strike out he knows he needs to miss barrels get some soft contact let the defense do work behind him and I think a guy like that can keep a good Tempo don't give hitters time to adjust or think they can move through a ball game and you look off they're in line for quality start we'll see what he's got in this one and the righty deals keeps thebag going with a foul [Applause] ball that one misses and it's three and [Applause] [Music] two got it by him for the k that one down base is empty short hop liner handled it short throw on to Tolson and the home first moving along quickly today two gone let's take a look at the Padre's lineup and Chris this group has been struggling to put up runs lately well they haven't been on base a ton and even when they are they haven't been hitting very well with the runners on base so they need a guy or two to really Step Up have some quality at bats hit according to the situation and sort of break out of this I think if they do the rest of this lineup will follow just [Applause] missed outside three and one [Music] [Applause] and that one fouled off looked like you got a little excited on that fast ball got to think to yourself want to stay up the middle that way if you're a little bit early you hit it out of the ballpark if you're a little late opposite field not fouled off again and it remains three and two swings through that one it's a strike out nothing doing there for the Friars scoreless after one back here at Petco Park second inning set to go here's the rookie third baseman Jace [Applause] Young the L and the pitch and another ball [Applause] would chase that time Eric summersgill with home plate Duty in this one kind of known for being generous with the corners Chris you know I think that used to be a lot bigger deal in past eras where pitchers were working more in and out with their pitches but yeah we'll see if those Corners come into play in this one hey no pitchers going to argue at all fans don't really understand the familiarity and relationship players and coaches have with umpires I mean you see a lot yeah they're all out there trying to do their best and perform at a high level so when you respect that I think over time you can develop a relationship with them man there was no deviating from the fast right there he just kept coming after him with it here it is hit it if you can and he just couldn't find a way to put it in play Spencer Tolson up now for the Tigers swing in a Miss as he was out front one ball two strik [Applause] the wine of the pitch bouns it off still one and two second inning here no score looked like it was a little bit up it's a good take swing and a miss struck him out now two [Applause] out Zack mckinstry up now for the Tigers two down nobody on line drive base hit showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit now at the plate Trey Sween next offering is in for a [Applause] strike mckinstry leads off first with two down to the inning and a swing in a miss and that's that Tigers leave one we'll go to the bottom of the second no score back here in San Diego bottom of the second here's the cleanup hitter for the Padre's Manny Machado ma the W to kick the pitch swings through that one for strike two two stri [Applause] and another ball the wide to the pitch battling here as he fouls it away cut on and Miss struck him out Machado is gone and there's one away and he'll be beating himself up on the way back to the Dugout got a pitch to hit and just couldn't get to it I think that slider really caugh way more the plate than it was supposed to and here comes sander Bogarts all slider so far in this had bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the Box slider got him for strike three yeah there's no doubt boo electric stuff from the jump I me there's just no messing around right now still very early but we could see a pretty impressive outing here if the strikeouts keep coming in the way they are one thing you have to be aware of though is a high strikeout rate might impact the pitch count as the Innings roll on Jackson Merill the next up for the padr swing and that ball smashed on the line green makes the catch and that'll do it three up three down for San Diego we'll move to the Third third with no score and welcome back to the ballpark well here we go top of the third scoreless game at the Play Jake Rogers the one to1 and that one Clips the corner one ball two goes down looking the B back to the top of the lineup now it's the second baseman Parker [Applause] Meadows out to short McCoy whips it to first on the run out and that quickly two away well that was a great job to make sure he had a good handle on the baseball to get off a strong throw and sometimes guys will Rush that and that's the difference right there it ended up being a close play but he got it and here is Riley [Applause] green so a foul ball makes it one and two well Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this game and it finds its way through for a hit so a two out not keeps the inning alive it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens digging in Matt verling that one finds the corner and that is strike two green off of first with two away swings through that and it's a strike out picks up strikeout number seven so one hit is all they get we move on to the bottom of inning number three we're tied nothing [Applause] nothing and we're back the play the right [Applause] so now one and two one ball two [Applause] straight gets a piece and stays [Applause] alive the wide the kick in the onew gets a piece there we'll do it again pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and Miss third foul ball in a row and it's even [Applause] up hits and misses it's a [Applause] strikeout next it's the catcher for the Padre's Luis kusano and that's outside and a count is three and [Applause] one one down base is empty still time at zero last to the third that's a good at bat right there he was down early in that play to appearance works the walk now a great back and forth and that it B he to play off some really close pitches and somehow Bo he found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there I'll tell you right now I couldn't have done [Applause] it pitch misses now two balls in a strike [Applause] [Applause] kicks andal and to swing in a miss and there's two away well that right there is just a pitcher's pitch tailing away from The Hitter low away with some good action at the end you know even if he gets the back to that ball it's probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side I tell you what that's a tremendous two strike pitch two outs Center Field Green going after it no trouble here puts it away for the out that is the inning one left for San Diego still no score back here at Petco Park now it's the right fielder carry Carpenter carry Carpenter the pitch close one doesn't get the call and it's two and one well these tigers as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the pl so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they're chasing outside of the strike zone that's down one hops off the wall safe it's second with a leadoff double put a pretty good swing on that one as he drove it out to deep left didn't quite have the right combination of launch angle and exit velocity to get it over the fence but you're never going to be disappointed with extra bases now let's see if they can put up the first run of the game Jace Young up now for the Tigers [Applause] late swing foul to the left and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that Strike Zone and Beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand the Tigers looking to strike first top half of inning number four swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strike out that was a pretty good pitch of the strike zone we're seeing more fasts in that location hitters especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger Spencer Tolson up now for the Tigers and there's a hit throw comes into third and they're at the corners with only one out well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he's trying to do at this point is help his team win now it's the DH Zack [Applause] mckinstry and the rander deals swing and a highfly ball down the left field line but hooking foul I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the Outfield here comes a pitch swing and a ball popped up Machado under it calls it in for the out yeah that was a wasted RBI opportunity but competitor like him he is looking forward to making up for it in his next atat the batter will be the short stop Trey Sweeny fourth inning underway no score [Applause] a little out front there as he swings through it it looked like that curve rout backed up on him and although it's a mistake it works out really good for the pitcher the hitters timed it up expects it to be to a certain spot and it just doesn't get there and a curve is down an in well he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here two two he's already seen the curveball couple of times in this at that so might have it timed up and ready for it two on two outs fou ball left side he'll see another and he deals bows that off to the left and will do it again Corners are occupied with two down [Applause] two two now he fouls it off will'll do it [Applause] again two outs this one popped up makes the catch inning over tiger strand a pair and we're still noted at zero bottom of the fourth so digging in now for San Diego Donovan [Applause] Solano that misses and that's ball two you know these Padres just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they're chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases that are turning into a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the Zone we'll see but I think they have to swings through it for the okay couldn't catch up to the heater just absolutely rolling on the mound he's looking very much on his game in the early parts of this one Bo fully on the attack with these hitters that's seven strikeouts already so he's got a good Pace going no doubt now here's Jake [Applause] cronenworth sets him down looking not sure about that call pitcher might have gotten a friendly strike three i' say it was a pretty generous call right there and when the pitcher's getting that call there's really not much you can do about it as a hitter and you know what guys today are so disciplined to stay with their approach and game plan not surprised at all that he took that pitch now Machado up here sends it across to first three up three down inning over Padre's go down quietly and we are still scoreless new inning getting started and here's the catcher Jake Rogers and a pitch and that is cut out and miss and the count two Bullpen action for the Padres Tanner Scott the leftand up and throwing next pitch is [Applause] outside wouldn't chase that time the pitch one away committed to that breaking ball just a little too much and couldn't pull the bat back of time once you get it going it can be so tough to stop the momentum with that Barrel good pitch had him full one down BCE is empty and another [Applause] ball next offering is downstairs he hasn't behind in the count like this all day he's in danger of walking his first batter right here 3-1 is on the way great on that fast well he was really Tardy on that fast great job of setting him up by throwing the curveball add some velocity to it on the next pitch can't catch up [Applause] swing and a ground off the middle that's a base hit so man aboard now with one away well he's been working out of the stretch just about the entire game lot of Bas Runners on against him and he's just done a really nice job of scattering the hits not giving up any runs but at some point your luck usually runs out so Lefty out of the P Tanner Scott and they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the Lefty hitter coming up I think it's a good Mo I know I never liked when opposing team did that to [Applause] me Runner on at first with one gone and up next for Detroit Riley green the 1-1 and there's a foul ball and a one two and a foul ball he stays alive [Applause] foul ball still a one and two count the healthy cut tough pitch at 98 but a really good pass at the ball step off throw to first and he's back in safely kicks and fires slider misses outside [Applause] popped up sizes this one up carouser two down well that was a pitch you got to crush unbelievable that he missed it right there I'm telling you he is going to be frustrating with himself until his next ADV B and now Matt verin two outs that one in there across the letters well we call that Keyhole even though it's right there and looks pretty good if he doesn't love it he's not going to swing that early in the count the throw to first and that is the inning so a job well done from the frier the pitch there's a swinging a Miss he's pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but he can never predict baseball that one backed up the middle and it gets through so a runner aboard to start the inning number three next to hit Jackson Merill [Music] left hand batter waights swing and a miss and now two and two with two strikes may see some movement over there first base trying to stay out of the double play right here bards Dives [Applause] back still two and two after the foul ball all tied up last half of inning number [Applause] five outside low and now three and two David Peralta on deck for the [Applause] Padres ground ball left side could be two off balance feed there's one plenty of time at first that's a double play the B nice sof hands on the backand right there in the six hole starts the double play it's not an easy throw but he puts it on the money really good job to get that double play started and now the right fielder David [Applause] peralto next pitch is downstairs three balls one strike two down nobody on in the air out towards Right Center on the move to the alley makes the grab and that'll end the inning sixth inning coming up still nothing on the scoreboard and welcome back to the ballpark top six now here's the Tigers cleanup hitter carry Carpenter and a pitch swings and misses struck him out well at the call in the M the pitch before felt like he should have had a look at I think but you know that's good composure right there he found a way to come back with another good pitch to get him to swing and Miss Jace Young up now for the Tigers [Applause] swing and a miss and he got him to chase [Applause] St that one just misses and the Count's even to two close pitch there and he's kind of wondering where it missed you know getting a feel for each umpire strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from it bat to it bat and now the Lefty swag in the Miss the velocity blasted it right past him with that kind of velocity and elevated fast even if it's still in the strike zone can be tough for hitters to get really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today good fast excellent slider but they've not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there and the pitch good job to Dugout got to make contact some way or somehow because that guy's not going to be able to steal second base and be safe two down Dolan on HS and misses it's a strike out making six shutout innings for him out there now it's the Tigers one and the Padre's nothing Jason Adam taking over on the mound he's certainly been one of their better relief pitchers this season the numbers are really solid so they feel great about handing the ball over to him well one run game Trey Sweeny up now for the [Applause] Tigers and the pitch fought off foul the onew [Applause] recognized that change up right out of the hand just spit on [Applause] it up the middle McCoy On The Run sends it over to First and they get the lead off hitter in the seven I love how guys at this level are able to slow the game down whether it's in the batter box or on defense and right there that was a good job of knowing just how much time he had we talk about that internal clock he was able to gather himself get a good G grip and make an accurate throw across the diamond Jake Rogers getting ready to [Applause] hit B is empty one away here in the top half of inning number [Applause] seven righty delivers two down third time he struck out in this one and definitely an individual performance you want to flush he just hasn't looked very comfortable up there just one of those days but when you're still winning the ball game at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that [Applause] W stays alive [Applause] two outs ground off the middle that's a base [Applause] hit I don't think that pitch would have been called a strike but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock two bu that keeps this inning alive puts a runner in scoring position and a chance for offense to add on to their lead here's the left fielder Matt verling he's someone that you might not describe as having Elite level speed but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game look this guy's definitely a plus Runner but what i' love about him is that he goes all out every single time never takes a break guys like that even though they don't have the Elite Speed the fact that they're consistent with it they make moves on the base paths first and second two [Applause] down to the right side and he can't come up with it but he wins the foot race the first good job of knowing how much time he had there tiger strand a pair but they're on top one nothing [Applause] we're back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh Shelby Miller well I got to think he probably has a little extra in the tank facing his former team and there's not a player in the league that doesn't get a little extra motivation when he plays against his old Squad and now here is Donovan salano the designated Donovan looking to get the tying run on base oh that's too high upstairs [Music] [Applause] and he swings over the top there well when those hitters count sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that he's got to get a better pitch to hit kicks Indi swings through it and that's a strike out a big first out here in the seventh VI of the punch out yeah it just does so much to change the Outlook of an important like this when you got the lead off hitter so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this so strikeout really puts them on their [Applause] heels and now the first baseman Jake cronenworth one down base is empty in the air right center this is match way back and a towering shot his 16th Homer of the year and we're starting over it's 1-1 that one just sounded different yeah might have been the loudest moment yet man my ears are ringing I can feel that swing from the booth pitcher tried to intimidate with that pass ball up and in but he was ready for it pulled the trigger and man explosive through the zone right there so it's all tied up thanks to the Home Run next for the Padre's Manny Machado swing and a miss one ball two strike [Applause] rander kicks deals and there's a [Applause] ball lifted in the air right Center Field Green going after it calls it in two away now that second bander now Xander Bogarts gets a chance to hit [Applause] K that pitch Clips the outside corner and the count one and two man I mean nice job just presenting it chases that one out of the zone and that is that one scores in the inning coming on this solo home run all even now at 1-1 back after this on the show welcome back in a new arm of the mound to start the eight number 25 carry Carpenter digs in now the right field number 30 Carri Carpenter [Applause] lined into right he's got it and there's one down great CLE B right there trying to get on as that goad R just wasn't able to find a hole and next up for the Tigers Jace Young ball to strike swung on belted way back there BS off the wall and he's into second base with one away as the goahead Run been a pretty rough game at the plate for him so far a bunch of strikeouts so that felt good I'm sure just missed out on a home run right there but he certainly hit it hard enough just didn't have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall but still an excellent swing of the back and a huge opportunity now to grab the lead at this point in the game one out runner at second Spencer Tolson now at the plate two and one now swing in a Miss as he was out front that time go ahead run it's second and we're in the top of the [Applause] eth him swinging nice work there to get the strike out and that's a big second out I'll tell you this whole crowd will be fired up they can get out of this and leave that goahead run stranded in scoring position this is a big moment in this game and now the DH Zack [Applause] mckinstry that at 95 missed up top and that's ball three [Music] man on second two down fouls one away and now three and two it's a hitter you don't know what to expect here in the 3-2 if he'll throw a breaking ball 3-1 he'll do it again 3-2 and a 3-2 swing and a miss he struck him out couldn't hit the fast ball at the knees well this guy competes hard we see the emotion there I love it great job of getting out of the [Applause] jam back down new pitch on the mount as we roll into the bottom of the eight Tyler this guy's a strike roll he's done an excellent job of a boarding walk so far this season [Music] so digging in now for San Diego Jackson Merill this is kind of a tough match up as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher and what you tell yourself is not want to stay Square to the plate try to hit the ball over the short Stop's head and he swings through that one one ball two straight the line of the pitch and a slinging a miss and now one away he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious stepping in for San Diego David Peralta got him looking couldn't pull the trigger on a fast ball at the knees a big stri out right there and maybe a little controversial with the call I think he got a little bit of favor on the M no question about it it's not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that and I'm sure there's some chirping going on from The Dugout making it clear that wasn't his best call behind the play today so now a pinch hitter for the catcher Luis AR he represents the go-ahead run all tied up here the bottom half of the eighth inning line to left and that's just foul that missed by a lot two and two tigers Bullpen with some action time Madden getting loose for AJ hinch vest a hard throwing rander up as [Applause] well two down nobody on and he grounds one to the right side to First and it's a one two3 inning nothing acoss cross here this half ninth inning coming up all tied [Applause] 1-1 now into the game Kyle higashioka he takes over behind the plate Trey Sweeny up now for the Tigers the you're patient and work a walk then you bring the game-winning run to the plate towards first he handles it himself Padres with only one out remaining that's what a good Sinker is designed to do get a guy to roll over a little bit hit the ball on the ground kill some worms while you're at it Donovan Solano the next up for the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Padres hit to right and that ought to do it and that'll do it the Tigers hold on to win a tight one as this this one ends as a one-run ball game well you take a tie ball game into the ninth on the road you know that you've got some work to do you got to score but then you've also got to get three outs in the bottom half of that inning they did just that today very well played ball game get this win on the road everybody's happy with the w
