welcome to Flag Football Talk 101 well I got takes it's not live on YouTube yet cool tick why it's not live oh there it goes I hope it's all in there all right so we are on the precipice of yet another Chiefs pre-season game there's some players fighting on both sides of the football to make this roster plus and more injury news for the Kansas City Chiefs what else is new let's talk about it all thanks for listening to KC Sports Network proudly presented by Emprise Bank if you're thinking about starting a business or know someone who is check out mise bank's SBA Loans it's always good to know your options and they can be your partner impossible welcome into a live edition of the KC laboratory presented by impr prise Bank our partner in possible here at KC Sports Network we put our money where our mouth is here at kcsn kcsn draft guide KC Sports Network an absolutely incredible partner in a day one for us here at KC Sports Network I'm here with my day one Matthew Lane Matthew how are we today you know we're doing pretty good um today was my middle kids my son's uh first day of kindergarten um so that was something that was that was a decision like thankfully he had been going to prek so like we had kind of had you know the going to school big moment but still pretty big having the first day of kindergarten so it it's been a whirlwind of a day uh you realized that man it's crazy I'm so young and have a kid in kindergarten like I just don't know how that happened I'm not used to uh name redacted being your middle child yet like I'm still not entirely used to that like you know I I just remember when we all had everybody over at my house a couple years ago when kcsn launched and just like all the kids are running around and there is name redacted just chilling over by the pile of toys and all that stuff backwards hat and I think a shirt off no no we don't have to name redacted Easton is my son's name um he was over there he was rocking some overalls with no shirt under it that's and the backwards hat and or and I think he might have even had a blippy hat going too so like he had he was a Vibe um out there and yeah he still carries that over it just now everything's been replaced by Minecraft like literally everything but uh yeah he started kindergarten so that's that's a except it's a whirlwind because that that does not seem that long ago where he was smacking me in the face with a water gun as we tried to take a picture Easton's always a Vibe he's something that G get in trouble well and you kind of said like he just like was so unfaced by kindergarten today yeah God yeah he's shy uh both my kids my older two kids are pretty shy um you know when like we're in public and stuff they don't talk real loud they don't want to speak to somebody unless they have to but boy it was time to go to kindergarten the door opens he just jumps out sister's supposed to walk him to class and he just takes off and walks into school and waits for a teacher to take him off to his class before my daughter ardan was even getting out of the van he just said nope I'm gonna go do this now bye peace out didn't even look back to wave I think it's funny how you define ardan as shy too cuz like her and my son like they hit it off so quickly and they were just like they were a whole vibin of themselves when they were all hanging out too so yeah uh I'm just surprised I wouldn't I never would have defined Ard is shy I guess uh yeah I she did great there I mean no she did they they really did get along um but yeah know it like school and stuff she she's pretty sh they're both just pretty shy I think that because the way our lives went when covid happened and then we kind of moved out to the country a little bit while everything slowed down I think it kind of like made them just not uh not reclusive but just shy they didn't see as many people there for like a year and a half when you're in your those formative years so I think they're getting back to it now but uh great kids in school now it's wo I don't know how we got here yeah I you know just one little opening and all of a sudden we're spending four minutes on the kids mine starts my oldest starts uh third grade tomorrow so yeah yeah man they're going from it's going from like kid school to real school that's that's what the change has been for and we did the open house and she went today and like it's no longer like oh you're here for fun and games like this is real you're reading novels now and you have to bring your computer to school and like it's real stuff now all of a sudden it's like oh boy it's wild uh also wild is the injuries continuing to pile on in Kansas City uh Jaan Taylor left practice early today with a shoulder injury was carted off of practice front of cart although I don't know if it would have been back of cart if it was a super serious shoulder injury either like that just you know that that that might have been a place where the where the cart wearing the cart maybe didn't matter all as much but uh if a guy tears his PEC is he really are they going to be like oh wait we think your pecs torn go to the back oh don't think you're text porn you're allowed to sit in the front like really did you just hear what you Tucker did you hear that Tex porn yeah okay you know that too okay I mean if you got yeah I mean if you got text porn you gotta sit in the back of the C said something back in something else too I think like a cop oh man this show is off the rails already um anyway uh Jawan Taylor is in the front of the cart but uh shoulder injury uh early indications are nothing to be overly worried about uh but man for a brief second there was a little bit of freak out about like uh okay so do the Chiefs have yet another injury and is this one that is going to shake up the offense of line room in its entirety yeah I I don't think that I feel as confident as a lot of chees fans do about the way the news came out that there's nothing wrong I it they didn't come out the report wasn't oh there's nothing to worry about they're not overly concerned right now they left a lot of ambiguity there to it get worse to not have enough information yet like the injury might be worse than they initially think they might not have any information till later I think they gave you a very Andy read he's got a little KNE he's got a this he's got a hamstring I think it was a pretty uh we don't know yet we're not going to give you too much so well I don't think it is a torn Peck um I also don't know the severity of of this injury I don't know if this is something that like we just need to brush away like oh it's not going to be a big deal at all come week one I think we're going to find out a lot more in the next couple days and hopefully it really is nothing I just don't think saying we're not overly concerned right now fills me with butterflies and I'm not like oh we dodged a bullet there it shouldn't and like I I I there could you know there could be a world in which you know that it is a little bit more serious than we're all you know hoping but I mean this is yet another little injury that keeps popping up you know there's a lot of mystery around several of these injuries I think at this point like Chris Jones and you Nick bolts finally back which is great um just read you felt like there's a chance he wasn't going to be there for the beginning of the Season early in the summer and all that stuff right what do you think this like how does this team address The Tackle position if Jawan Taylor isn't out there for week one I think it's pretty simple um the first thing they do is they dropped their knees they put their hands together and they start praying that some miracle happens that a player is randomly cut that matters because I mean like realistically if you look what's available out there even if you want to go pick a veteran offensive tackle Donovan Smith left tackle David boari left tackle uh Dwayne Brown left tackle like everybody that at one point in time has had a good you know a solid NFL season has been good before they're all left tackles there's not really a right tackle the best right tackle you're looking at is Billy Turner and we're like even four or five years away from him being a serviceable right tackle so like there's nothing out there available at the right tackle spot you're probably not going to bring in one of these veterans that have played left tackle for the past decade and a half you're probably moov Ming the rookie Kingsley sua over to the right hand side where he played at BYU where he hasn't really been practicing for the Chiefs if you were going to bring one of those guys in or you're G to try to run it with what you got which we've discussed all offseason long that we don't think this team has a lot of faith or sees a strong cor like a strong outlook for w morrris to be a starting offensive tackle but I don't think they see one with Lucas Nang either so if Joan Taylor's Miss time I almost feel like they have to go to the free agency pool and there's just not a lot there especially that have been career right tackles W Morris is still dealing with injury uh believe it's being labeled as a bone bruise right now so he's still dealing with injury on top of that Kingsley suamataia is one of the few players in this entire offensive line room that's not cross training right now they're focusing him at the left tackle spot so I mean yes he's played right tackle in the last 18 months 20 months but this is someone that's been focused on the left tackle position they have not moved mov him around I didn't have even tried that they are just saying let's get him locked into this position and get him going so losing Joan Taylor for any amount of time does present some problems if he does wind up missing some time and again don't know they're not overly concerned about it as of now but I mean there's a lot of little not I mean Chris Jones is out with a shoulder right now and we haven't seen him for a little bit as well so who knows what that actually there's a lot of like I think M MD said it perfect there's a lot of mystery ambiguity around the timeline for the you know recovery of some of these players and we're not getting a ton of clarity on them and it doesn't really matter until three weeks from now when the Chiefs wind up you know playing a game officially but it's still like time's running out and there's plenty of players on the injured list right now and yeah the Jawan Taylor situation presents some challenges for sure because you're right there's do you move I mean if he's gonna miss time do you move Kingsley suamataia over to the right side and sign a veteran like a Donovan Smith like yeah that's that's fine and everything but you know Kingsley hasn't been working over there he hasn't been getting work over there and is that your best five probably but that it presents some presents some challenges I'd almost be more apt to see if Donovan Smith would want to play on the right side than anything you're gonna take Donovan Smith who wasn't good or like barely it wasn't even really average at left tackle last year who's played left tackle in the NFL for a decade and ask him to play right tackle like I feel if jwan Taylor's to miss let's say it's an injury at knock on wood it's not and I don't think we've gotten the indication that this is yet but if he is going to miss three4 of the Season or all of the season I think you have to go sign somebody and just put Kingsley into the right tackle competition right I think that's your move like I and I say that because like I said bakar bakari Brown um Donovan Smith these are all left tack these guys that are just left tackles so I think it's best to take the guy that doesn't have a decade of experience who has recently enough played right tackle um two years ago I guess at BYU now and a little bit you know like when he was going through camp and stuff at Oregon you take him and you put him in that right tackle competition along with thean Morris along with whatever Lucas Nang or Chu godric are providing and you just see who comes out on top like I I think that's the best way to go if Taylor's Gonna Miss significant time if Taylor's not missing significant time if it would be oh he might be back for week three or week four then I don't think you mess with it and you just try to survive by rolling out there probably when w Morris comes back healthy you would put him over to the right side where he did take reps last year not so much this season but he did take reps there last year and played there at Oklahoma and you would have Kim compete with Lucas Nang you maybe don't feel quite the need to go out and sign somebody although if you wanted to find a cheaper veteran offensive tackle maybe you could but yeah I think we just got to wait and see but if Taylor's miss a significant time I think this team needs to go sign somebody I don't think that you can mix and match the tackles they have at right and left and come away with something that feels quality yeah I agree it's something you would have to you'd have to address it and it's kind of interesting how we look at this team and we we've talked about you know needing to maybe add a veteran at corner maybe now needing to add a veteran at at at left tackle maybe needing to add a veteran at defensive end like there's been several different players in positions that we've said you know what like this doesn't feel as settled as we've seen maybe historically for this team walking into to week one of the Season it does feel like there's a little bit more uncertain uh one of the trade targets that kind of popped up very recently in the last couple days was Matthew judon the defensive end out of New England he's a player that has had a very successful career to this point uh he's been holding in in New England just uh you know going and showing up but not participating in practices and today after you know we talked about him on Monday he was traded to Atlanta for Atlanta's thirdd round pick in 2025 Matthew what say you how how do you feel about that um there's been leaks of other teams interested being the Chicago Bears the Houston Texans notably there has not been a leak that says the Kansas City Chiefs were interested so we don't know yet um if they were or if they weren't the price is pretty much exactly what we said we both had guessed the third round pick would get it done we even kind of waffled back and forth over would it be the Chiefs or the Titans pick the Chiefs pick likely is going to be way too far back to be the best offer and lo and behold it was as the Atlanta Falcons who were going to be trading a mid- round pick presumably right and maybe would judon maybe that becomes a later third round pick but not as late as what you would expect the Chiefs so yeah the Chiefs would have had to part with their Titans third round pick most likely to have the best offer would I have done it absolutely I would have done it in a heartbeat as long as judon was willing to play out this year on his contract or if you were able to resign him for you know an extra year or two for a reasonable deal that doesn't crush the team we will see what the contract situation plays out as I would have given up a third round pick for one year of Matt judon at$ six and a half million do I don't know if Matt judon would have agreed to play for6 and a half million dolls for one year so that's like what's really up in the air at this point in time but the I think we kind of nailed the value he's going to a contender so like they kind of did exactly what we thought might happen that we talked about earlier this week yep I I um yeah there's a lot of little pieces of information that haven't really come out yet about the the the Matthew GN situation one being did he need a new contract to sign for you know to to to execute this trade that the Falcons had to feel comfortable about his availability so is he going to get a rework deal for this year is he getting a multi-year deal uh to play in Atlanta moving forward here like that is one big piece of the puzzle that I think hasn't entirely been answered yet but we we know at least the compensation and the compensation was a team that is probably mid to Upper tier you know I think in in in the pecking order when it's all said and done I think the Titans pick in the third round beats the Falcons pick if if the New England Patriots if OT wolf is looking at the situation and someone's offering him the Titans third round pick and someone's offering the Falcons pick I think he would take the Titans pick from a compensation standpoint if the chiefs were willing to give up that pick and in a vacuum it's you know there's maybe not a contract negotiation required but it's just purely trade asset I think the Titans pick probably gets a dner of the Falcons is that fair yeah I think I mean I think so I I don't think that Patriot so this is the way I look at it I know some people are say the Patriots aren't going to trade judon to a contending team that's in the AFC I don't think it matters to them because they're not contending this year exactly next year they're not they're not contending when this trade matters so I don't I don't think if the Texans or the Chiefs came in with the best offer that they would turn that away so if the Chiefs came out and offered the Titans third round draft pick yeah I do think that the Patriots would have accepted that and then yeah it's just a matter of what is what would be the contract situation which not it's like there's a lot of information we don't know I think this is like you know just kind of a heyy it would have made a lot of sense for the Chiefs to do it I understand why they haven't especially if it comes out tomorrow when judon signs this three-year extension the only problem is I'm looking through contracts he's 32 right now the last defensive end to sign a contract at like that age that's been substantial is Cameron Jordan maybe and that's with the team that he's spent his entire career with so like who you who knows how much of that is like a life-term contract and that's still only $13 million a year now is judon better has judon been better than Cameron Jordan the last few seasons absolutely but like 32y old defensive ends aren't making a ton I guess Von Miller would have been one that would have signed a big fat deal around that age right it would have been Von Miller would be the only other guy so unless you think you're giving him the Von Miller contract which you can just look at that and say hey that didn't work out too well buddy it's like I don't know I don't know how expensive Jon's gonna be but I think you can at least tell yourself why the trade couldn't happen from the Chiefs perspective yeah well and I think information will come out but just what we know to this point I think yeah it would have required the Titans third round pick if the chiefs were going to do it and it probably would have required a little bit more money and the little bit more money like maybe the Chiefs are willing to do maybe the Chiefs would have been willing to give up the Titans pick if it was just $6.5 million and Matthew dudon is gonna play this year out and he's gonna go get the bag from some other team in 2025 it would have been worth it to throw the Titans pick at it I think Perfection really uh yeah yeah because that doesn't take away your flexibility to be able to make moves with the Bevy of of extensions that you're going to have to sign for some of the players like a Creed Humphrey and Nick Bolton uh A treace Smith potentially oh yeah Trent McDuffy on down the pike here George kof is coming up so you know there's I mean there's a CH chance all five of those are eligible for extensions in some capacity on the timeline next year I mean it is that's that's what it is you could you could extend Trent and George next year after this season oh and by the way Creed and treyer up oh by the way Nicks up um so yeah I we we I think we kind of have an idea that it would have taken the Titans third round pick to do uh and at six and a half million that would have been nice to just have them for this year solidify your POS you know solidify the defensive line in a big big way and uh yeah that would been nice I but I I do anticipate that you're probably going to see more money added to Matthew Jon's contract and that is probably going to be a barrier that was going to keep the Chiefs I honly if it was if it was something that was keeping him out of you know keeping him in Kansas City for 2025 maybe I don't know how how in the Chiefs would have been on that scenario yeah um yeah I it really just depends on what where his mindset is right now I mean it just all depends on what his mindset is and this is one of those things that we will never know here on the outside is like what is his plan going is he ready to become a guy that's just bouncing around year by year making a lot of money is he trying sign another big long-term contract as you mentioned earlier the Chiefs have a lot they even mentioned it today you know uh borgonzi mentioned it when he was talking to the Press like hey we have all these guys we're ready to sign right now but we might not I he pretty much said hey we might not be able to sign Creed Humphrey Trey Smith and Nick bolt like we would like to but who's there know there's go guarantee will get them ball and then as you said George carloftis Trent McDuffy you know even Brian Cook leol there's a whole wave of other guys coming up right after that so like they're not in a position to I think lock themselves into a long long-term deal to a 32y old 32y old Edge rusher that if you are extending him you probably are I guess looking north of like $15 million per year on him and well I think he's probably worth it if that was going to be a requirement for judon to not accept the trade to be happy with the trade then yeah that could have right there dipped the Chiefs out of it in general but I'm I am just fascinated to see is he gonna sign in Atlanta long term or not because if he comes out that he doesn't and it was just Atlanta traded a third round pick to get one year of mat udon it will be a little it'll be a little bit of a gut Punch If we get to the playoffs and the Chiefs pass rush starts stalling out and all it would have taken was the Titans third round pick to have that guy for this year I do trust that the Chiefs will address positions of concern as needed though like I do really believe in Brett V's desire to um aggressively correct what might keep his team and I mean he did it with I mean in a small scale he did it with mle Hardman you know and I there's always a longterm outlook for this team and this is a very tricky area to like area of the Mahomes timeline to navigate I think right now because they've drafted so well and there's a lot of players due for you know for for extensions here in the very near future it is a very tricky area for him to navigate but I do trust that they're going to do what they can in the constraints in which they have to fix anything that could keep them from winning a Super Bowl and I don't think they're trying to play it cute um if they don't feel like they need defensive end in in such a big way then you know hey we'll find out or if they want to try to ride the wave until the trade deadline that's also an approach to take too they're going to have more flexibility at the trade dead line too if they need to as well so um definitely worth something uh worth paying attention to Matthew judon is off the block and uh we're going to take a break we'll be back right after this thanks for listening to casy Sports Network make sure you download our new app find you're getting your teams together getting them in I know some people have been trying to just you know make sure that they got their team unlocked but I'd hurry up and do that if you uh if you want to make sure that you get one of these spots it's going to be an awesome time we did get a super chat here from Doug nks uh asking if sky and cadarius Tony are possible trade candidates so I don't think Sky Moore is a trade candidate at this point I think this is someone that's actually making the roster um if you listen to um how he was spoken about today if you listen to you kind of see like where he was in the pecking order when Hollywood Brown was injured and the kind of confidence they have in his knowledge of the offense I think he's I think he's a locked to make the roster I think they want to keep him around especially with the Hollywood Brown injury Kadarius Tony has no trade value right now yes correct zero they tra the Chiefs two years ago traded a third round pick so the value it was a comp pick right or was it just their third round pick I can't remember now I think it was their compensatory pick yeah so his value was the lowest of day two picks that you could have possibly given up and since he's been in the chief with the Chiefs he has not stayed healthy and actively cost them games I don't think there's anybody left out there that is clinging to what their pre-draft evaluation over cadarius Tony was if he is cut I think he will get a shot for teams I don't think there's any team out there that is going to be really willing to partner with him the most I think you could see is when Lonnie Johnson was traded the Chiefs where it was like a future it was a conditional seventh round pick based around him playing maybe somebody offers that up a conditional seventh round pick that says if he makes our roster and plays 50% of the snaps for us then we'll give you a seven like that hardly counts um so I don't think that he's got any trade value available Sky Moore might actually have some trade value for the same reason that cadarius Tony did there might be a GM or a team out there that had a pre-draft eval on him that they still like him and they still like what he has and they would be willing to give up something to get him that said to Kent's point I am beginning to wonder if the Chiefs don't like him as an emergency policy for a Hollywood Brown for a Xavier worthy for even a Rashi rice because when you listen anytime they talk about it's his work ethic it's how hard he works it's how well he tries to work with and get along with the quarterbacks and he knows the Playbook those things do matter as much as you know we don't love what we've seen from him on the field those things behind the scenes do matter Tucker you've been uh you've been at Camp you're at camp today and I believe you were the one that told me that cadarius Tony was with the third team for the entirety of practice right yeah which is different than what had been happening on Tuesday because he didn't do any team session on Tuesday so not only is he going from being being back in air quotes right he's not wearing the no contact Yellow no contact Jersey Nate Taylor talked about on the only we games podcast yesterday not wearing the yellow no contact he had full pads on and did not participate in team sessions at all on Tuesday and on Wednesday today when we're recording this podcast he was like exclusively with the threes sounds like it's uh sounds like it's about done might a lot reps on he might get a lot of reps on Saturday we'll say that I want to answer one more question from the chat before we move on but I will say to that conspiracy theory I think it's very funny that he kind of held himself out of practice the contact portion of practice then Matt naggie goes up there and says he's got to be on the field for him to matter and the next day he's out there practicing again but on the third team I I wonder if we've seen that song and dance from a kadary Estonian coaching staff before I wonder if we I just wonder if that's happened before and I don't know New York yeah I'm not saying he's not hurt it's just there seems to be a gap in the confidence of coaching staff's and cadarius Tony's availability to play and it seems like the Chiefs might be getting annoyed with his La annoyed not like disappointed but annoyed with his lack of availability and we know the Giants were there so it's just it might be a pattern um if you do you have anything else on Tony no I I we got this question when we were talking about Matt judon it's like it was from missu 19 what is with the sudden sense of urgency to get more pass rush help um it's not sudden for me I had defensive end as one of the Chiefs like highest priorities in free agency now that was before Mike Dana resigned so like I guess you know once they resigned him you could drop drop it down from being a high priority to a midlevel priority but like it's still something that I've been saying since the offseason they needed more defensive end help especially with Charles omu being hurt so it's not so much that it's sudden it's just there's been guys available that could still help and then I think once the Emanuel agba interest became public it really starts turning the gears like oh the chiefs were at least kicking the tires on a defensive end as well so it went from being like fan speculation to the team was also looking into it maybe they are still looking into it now so I don't think anything's changed necessarily other than we now have have it confirmed that the Chiefs are had still at least been looking a little bit to add another defensive end I think there were reasons for concern with Felix before the game too um not just in how CE spagnolo spoke about him but like some of the clips themselves have not been like overwhelmingly positive towards this is a guy that can play on three downs and contribute in that capacity and that's his developmental Arc so that kind of something that's of concern I think is just you know it's a it's a very defined role Malik Herring also has a very defined role as more of a first and second down di defensive end as well and then you can you know let Felix pin his ears back but you know you're looking at a very thin group from a you know three down type player you've got two three down players that can really step George and and Mike Dana and then outside of that you're kind of looking at Niche players two Niche players and then that's it two Niche players behind Dana and kofus and this is a position where you need five now if I I guess MD one quick question if if Charles am minu was healthy never tore his ACL and was just ready to rock uhuh you'd feel different right yeah there would be no need to go out trading for a Matt judon there would be no need to even like you know contemplate what it would take to get a St level or a high-end rotational level defensive end now you still want to go get Emanuel agba because you want to bolster that room or a player of that nature sure have at it but there would be no interest in going to get a guy that's gonna kind of play starter reps because I think Mike Dana's best role is not playing starter reps like he could eat those snaps but you don't want him having to play that you don't want him to be on that many pass rush Downs essentially right and so yeah if they still had Charles omu uh was healthy he was ready to go then I wouldn't really feel like there was this urgency a a need to go get them um and maybe that's a chief plan maybe they just want to hold on till he comes back maybe that's in the back of their mind they're just like oh we're going to do just enough till he comes back and then guess what we're ready for the playoffs where our football season actually starts the Chiefs typically keep five or six defensive ends on their roster on the 53 man roster why or you know defensive end five is Truman Jones right now defensive end six is is Owen Carney so I mean if you're seeing this team keep as many as six I mean that's not happening this year I I see five roster B and then Treman Jones on need more I mean more than Merit to this point if that's the case like they just they're very thin on what St spagnolo typically prefers a defensive end and that just that it's it's been a little jarring for me to see like how maybe they're keeping more defensive tackles this year Matt Dickerson seeson is all I'm saying uh we could probably talk more about the defensive ends here in a second with the with the with the bubble players but we're gonna you know like look this is the last episode before the Chiefs play again again we'll be on the kcsn postgame show for Chiefs Lions on Saturday evening but this is our chance to talk a little bit about some of the players that are maybe on the bubble here needing to continue to ascend or continue to have performances or need good performances to stay relevant here when it comes to um you know their their staying in the 53 man roster perspective so we're gonna start with the offensive side we've spent a lot of time talk about cadarius Tony I think that is one of them like I I I I kind of think the book is pretty closed on him but even if he if he plays a lot of snaps and kind of shows what he's able to do do you how much does it really matter do you think Matthew um not okay let's do the wide receivers as a whole because I think you got to package everything together because I think we are getting really tight on to the roster like the amount of players here that we're looking at right so let's just do the tight end as a whole or the wide receivers as a whole because there's a lot of guys in the bubble we know the four loocks right we know Hollywood Brown as of right now he's not starting the season on IR so he's still counting against it Rashid rice Xavier worthy Justin Watson I think we know those guys are locks they will be rostered yes and and please let me clarify it's four to six weeks projected for a Hollywood Brown he is going to be on the 53 men roster I have a hard time believing that this team is going to you know roster him and then IR him which I you're still having to they can no you can IR a player in the preseason now if they think he's going to be closer to that six weeks and might miss four games I think they can put him on the IR before the season starts now if I'm not mistaken and he do Tucker is nodding his head is that a no if Tucker if somebody can look up the Ru I'm pretty sure some i' had seen that it's one of the rule changes this year I'm going to look it up yeah I know you can at least do two anyway we'll come back to that but either way we know those four making it we both just said we think Sky Moore's got an inside track right now so like I don't know if I'm gonna call that up as a lock right now but I feel pretty good about putting him in there at five like I feel pretty comfortable I'm not I'm I'm very close to to locking it up man just because I I'm getting there and I'm okay so that's fine yes that's five our bubble players then become mle Hardman cadarius Tony Justin Ross Nico rigio and they're fighting for at most two spots I I don't know if anything that happens in a preseason game from a guy that's not showcasing his ability to be the best return man that's circling back around for not being a return man I don't know if anything specifically just from a preseason game is going to change anything as a just a receiver not a not a return man so if canarias Tony not getting kick return and punt return reps which it doesn't I don't think he's in the first spot for either one of those right now for this team I don't know what he can do in a preseason game to climb himself really deep back into that battle and he probably looks like he is going to find himself on the outside looking in I agree I I I don't know how much what cadarius Tony does matters in the Outlook like or what okay you're going up against second teamers and you look good making plays that you've made consistent you shown some ability to make plays against highle Talent it's not about that it's about things outside of what happens on the field and so like that's where things get a little tricky for me is like I'm not sure what really matters for Kadarius Tony at this point unless there's just a you know something attitude you know from an attitude perspective a mentality perspective that matters we are getting this we got this super chat question from uh kale 368 and again all super chats wind up going to the kcsn foundation so I appreciate get your support there what is the vision for Justin Ross this isn't exactly a jump ball offense but they've stuck with him anyways what's the play with him and so Justin Ross is I think another one of those guys that you know if he continues to stack good days together like he has if he continues to show out and make you know performances like we saw in preseason game number one but also in Camp recently he seems to be getting some opportunities with Patrick leavon Mahomes I mean I think the outlook's starting to look really good for Justin Ross and even beyond the jump ball stuff even if it is just kind of in a niche role I think he's starting to carve out a role on this offense yeah so like we mentioned the four bubble kind of wide receivers I feel like Justin Ross is the other guy that probably has the most stock up as of right now and part of that's just because we've kind of seen the Chiefs have been doing a lot of Red Zone this weekend during Camp since you know he had a strong performance in in the preseason game showing off you know a nice catch but then this week's been a lot of Red Zone stuff at training camp which means Justin Ross gets to really shine and he has like don't get me wrong he really has so it's been a strong week of practice for him specifically and so yeah I think his stock is also the most up and if you were looking very purely for a wide receiver a guy to catch passes nothing to do a special to just catch passes at this point he makes some sense to be the guy that kind of replaces the mvs role a little bit the guy that provides a backup plan to I know they've already said Justin Watson's like the backup plan to Hollywood brown but if you look at how Justin Watson was used last year if you want somebody else that can be used in a similar way that's going to be Justin Ross so I think there's a very clear path for him on this roster and it's a bonus that he is willing or has been willing and to play special teams he's been part of the kick coverage unit last year I believe he did some kick coverage as well uh or some kick return as well so yeah I I think the pathway is opening up for Justin Ross and it's just a bonus on top that he does have a very clear use for this to slap him down in the Red Zone if you want to just use him as a jump ball type guy as a backline type of receiver there's a clear path there's a clear role for him within like the starting rotation but I also think his Pathway to being in this wide receiver room is kind of opening up a little bit I do too and I think it's I mean it's a credit to him um I saw uh Carrington Harrison posting some comments just the other day and it was it was interesting like you know just kind of the perception of some of the receivers from 2023 I think we kind of I think a lot of people Clump the receivers from 2023 as like this just entity that's a curse word right but there are pieces and bright spots from that room like Rashi rice ascended out of the trials of the 2023 receiver room and Justin Ross is still a very young player and yeah he didn't have a ton of production last year but he showed some flashes and I think it's hard to separate the bad taste of 2023 with a lot of these receivers with what they're doing this year and Moore has had some up and down performances I think to this point it's been very up and down um but you know he's shown some consistency of late he's made some plays of late we haven't seen as many mistakes of late actually Tucker I'm curious has your perception of Sky Moore the last couple weeks since being out in training camp maybe even last week specifically has it looked a little bit better than it did early on in the training camp yeah it has for sure and I do think that um maybe some of the injuries in the wide receiver room has helped him get a little bit more reps in there and he has looked a little bit more comfortable since the pads came on because you guys did mention um he almost had like the The Yips a little bit when it came to catching the football it seems like he's a little bit more confident now when the ball's thrown his way I don't know if that helps with like getting rest with Carson Wentz because Carson Wentz still a pretty good quarterback um like it's still it's he's still pretty good uh so I think he was able to get reps there build some confidence with the lower level guys but he's getting a lot of run with the ones when they did a lot of the Red Zone stuff too today I noticed this today and yesterday they did a lot of Red Zone focused stuff he was in on those um and Justin Rossell obviously getting in on the Red Zone stuff as well just because of his body type and everything like that but uh I was uh very interested in uh in skymore usage since he's been but he's been available that's been the big thing is that he's been available and that there's some wide receivers in that wide receiver room that just haven't been yeah so I don't know it's maybe you know I think it's it's hard to separate the feelings that we have from that team uh last year in the receiver room to now and I think Justin Ross is a guy that has shown out a little bit and so he showed out in the games a little bit so you know I think there's a role for him potentially and this was a guy that's super talented coming out of college too you know this is this isn't like some I mean we've talked about it before freshman year Justin Ross at Clemson looked like a guy that was on the on the track to be a first round pick injuries have kind of sapped him some opportunities but this is still a very young kid yeah no he is um and I wanted to go back to your point like you were talking about why is the hype a little more dead for Justin Ross this year than last year well I mean because the the wide receiver room was pretty bad last year and he didn't really crack into it into a significant role so like I think it's just the stigma is like you said everything about the room was bad and he wasn't even the best part of what was bad now his his year in the middle of it got interrupted um so like that is worth considering I also think and I'm not trying to throw cold water on the Justin Ross thing like I said I think that he is going to I I think he's trending towards making this roster I think that his body type and his role as a receiver leaves like has a very clear spot on this team that said I also think it's a very very very narrow scope for a spot his role as a wide receiver is very narrow it is jump balls it is a vertical route Runner it's not creating a lot of Separation it's just kind of giving him a chance to win how many second and sevens how many third and fives are Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes going to want to say hey Justin Ross we're going to give you a chance to win on this play versus letting Mahomes do it letting Travis Kelce do it letting Rashid rice Xavier worthy Hollywood Brown letting someone else do it so like that is the biggest hold up and that's been the hold up all the time with the Chiefs and getting a jump ball contested catch receiver is they don't really want to do that more than a couple times a game and if Justin Ross is only playing 10% of the snaps how many opportunities is he ever going to get still think he makes the roster it's just I it's the opportunities for this type of Team aren't going to be substantial for him most likely and I think and it sounds weird to say hey look the defensive end position is very unsettled and the quarterback position is very unsettled and you know like we we're we're the tackle positions now very unsettled but of the players on here I think we kind of know who's in and who's out you know we're getting very we're getting closer to some of that and what that means is the conversation don't stem from how big of a season can Xavier worthy have which I'm sure we'll get to at some point but it's more about hey like you know how does how does wide receiver six fit into this team and like it's you know and I think that's where these conversations kind of sim it's it's it's kind of important to have these conversations because this is where the the real meat of the conversation starts which is in a lot of ways it's a blessing because we're so used to not that here in Kansas City so like I'll take conversations about how Justin Ross fits on a roster versus I mean even I'm a homes list you know existence which I don't really know much about when it comes to podcasting which is absolutely delightful all right we gotta we got to do defense but real quick anybody else in the offense it's a roster bubble guy that you think needs a specific performance um I we talked a lot of offense I'm not trying to gloss over this very you know overly quickly Carson steel I think has got himself up there to the sky C of I I don't know if I want to say a lock yet but like we are solidly on there right now solidly on there yes tuck Tuck's got his hand up um is Clyde Edwards Air on the bubble I want to talk about that real quick I don't think I don't know if Clyde Edwards Air is on the bubble I'm not sure that we have appropriately talked about generic Prince's Outlook entirely are we sure generic Prince is lock for this roster right now oh no I don't I don't think I think there's one one running back that's a lock is Isaiah Pacho I think Clyde Ry lay most likely makes it because it probably I think it almost cost the Chiefs as much money to cut him as it does to keep him at this point and I don't think they see him as a like net negative that they are willing to just not have for the same amount of money but so I think he's most likely making it I think Carson steal is most likely making it and that makes daer Prince the most bubbled guy and again I thought he had a fine preseason game it wasn't it wasn't highlight worthy it wasn't super explosive I don't think he got a lot of good opportunities playing behind a really bad second unit of an offensive line but I thought he looked better than he did last year he had shown growth I just think he needs he's the guy that needs to do something and it might be in games for him versus practice he's been impressive in practice for two years now he probably needs to show something in a game one of these next two games if he's going to really push that spot or if not this goes back to my whole point hey maybe we keep those four tight ends and touchdown machine IR Smith who just catches touchdowns left and right in practice can make the roster over generic PRS Tucker do you have something yeah I'm going back to clad ab's contract point he has a cap hit of 1.6 million his dead cap is 1.3 so it would not do anything I cap cut casually he wouldn't be a cap cut casually they would just do it because they don't want him whatsoever and that's a possibility I just don't think they see him as I think he's too good for Vibes I think he's I think he's a Vibe guy you got to keep him in there for vibes guys he played well down the stretch last year too um I think I think Clyde's more safe right now than generic and I think we overstated daic to this point where it got to moving day which I think Matt Derek cited it as moving day which is I think is great like the first practices after and I think we talked about this on Monday the first practices after the first game are pretty important it kind of helps you identify changes that you know can stick it's no longer you know herb Miller's playing corner with the ones you know it's it's like let's start kind of let's start pairing this down a little bit there's only a few practices left in St Joe you start getting a little bit of idea of where things are heading and um I think I credit to Matt Derek I think you called it moving day daer Prince was getting a lot of run before game one and might have just been out of necessity per perhaps because Carson steel is seeing some run now he's getting reps with the first and second team he's played well I actually think Carson still fits better for what this team needs from a roster construction perspective in the running back room right now just because I think he's got some chops as a pass protector and he seems to be more at this point more reliable oh Tucker's hyped what I totally forgot about this I don't know if I sent this to you guys either I took a video of Carson steel working with both Dave to and Andy Heck on blocking um technique and I thought that that was wildly interesting I have the video of it I didn't post it because other things happened but he is certainly working he is conscious of him needing an ability to block to make this roster that's nice from a guy labeled as a fullback I think that generic Prince provide a receiving ability that the other running backs haven't exactly shown and a big play potential so I think you can look at every running back on this roster Peko is obviously the like the lock he's kind of the everything you could look at all three other guys in contention for these spots and say they provide something the others don't Clyde I don't say this entirely in just with a little bit of j a lot of Vibes lot of Playbook knowledge the generic Prince receiving ability explosive Dynamic Runner that might pair well with peo although peo looked pretty spry with that less that that lack weight or like losing some weight and then Carson steel a little bit more reliable a little bit more physical like they all bring I think a little something else in the perfect world I'm not keeping Clyde out of zir and I'm keeping the other two and we're just GNA make it work I just don't know if the Chiefs will so yeah I do think the ner Prince is most likely on the bubble and he might be competing not against running backs he might be competing against somebody like IR Smith for a final roster spot or competing against a seventh wide receiver like it might not be a running back versus running back competition spot for that final offensive roster spot d and I think there was a general concern about football IQ from daer Prince last year that even showed up in some of the preseason games do you feel like that's been quelled because like I think that's yes you feel it's been quelled I mean what do we have really to go on I have one preseason game in which I didn't see the same glaring run ID mistakes that we saw last year when he was asked to run inside Zone he pressed the hole and then tried to make the right cut and he was swallowed up by five guys because they couldn't block anybody you know he was was doing the right stuff on his run plays that that we could tell for as bad as it was blocked so like I guess do I feel 100% confident that it is fixed no but did I see noticeable improvement from him when he was a rookie yes I still saw you know some of the general un awareness of the rules in special teams and stuff like that just it just brought me back to some of the things that you're just a little bit worried about from a football IQ perspective last year and maybe it's just little scar tissue from some of what we saw during the preseason but last year but I I don't know that's just kind of one of the it's just in the back of my head a little bit so that's just something I'm kind of paying attention to a little bit there we should probably move on to the defensive side of the ball uh we're gonna have to go over 60 Minutes you're breaking you got to break your own rule here we got to go over 60 because we can't this podcast and you guys never talk about we can't snub the defense like this so like we got to go over 60 now this is on you I see like Craig has DMD US during this show he should just jump on is all I'm saying I believe is driving home to get food while we record this I don't think he can jump on that might be the perfect time on the bubble time out time out speaking of Wednesdays next Wednesday is gonna be a lot of fun little teas um it's not Craig but it's G to be a lot of fun I can't wait I'm looking forward to it uh anyways continue okay defensive players on the bubble you might have locked out I don't know if there's that many defensive players on the bubble to talk about there's not as fun to fit the battles to talk about on the defensive side of the ball for bubble because I think for the most part they're pretty there's some issues The Who quarterback two and quarterback three are an issue ask Dave Merritt who the defensive end two and three R is an issue you know look watch them try to rush the passer but I don't know if we're that confused over who's making this roster right I mean like is there anybody that stands out to you as like wow I'm really stuck on who's making it here I'm very fast ated about how many defensive ends this team keeps and I'm very fascinated who defensive end five is so like that's one of them for me who's competition it's it's Truman Jones like who's he competing with it's that's my thing man I don't know if I've seen anything like I'm a Truman Jones fan I you know I think we put a fifth round pick or something like on like like like that on the in the kcsn draft guide I know you've comped him to a Mike Dana type player I know he's liked there but as far as a roster 53 man roster player right now I don't know if we've seen anything from him to this point to say this guy deserves to be on the 53 man roster for the Kansas City Chiefs and so it's it's like I want to see if Truman Jones shows that he's worth being defensive end five for this team right now and that's one of the big questions I have is just like is is this a roster player in the NFL and if not why aren't why aren't the Chiefs looking heavly at finding a another guy to add to that room again like we know they're in on ogba or we're in ogba on ogba so like I don't know man like I think trumman Jones is one of the one I'm paying the most attention to yeah I mean like he could definitely have a strong performance that really pushes him to I I don't I don't know if he's outside the bubble or inside the B right now right like I don't know where he sits I he's clearly the only other defensive end they have right now competing for that final spot but he's competing against defensive tackles he's competing against Neil frell and Matt Dickerson I guess to your ninth defensive lineman like he's not really competing against any other defensive ends so I don't I don't know if he can come out and play so good that it will change I think the bigger issue is if they can't stop the run and they need more beef he's GNA lose out to Neil frell or Matt Dickerson or the other defensive tackle where or if they can't rush the passer on the interior he's going to lose out not because of his play necessarily but because of his position he can help himself but like I just yeah I don't know I don't know what all he can do because it looks like the competition might between two positions I guess that takes me to the D Tackle Spot Neil farell they the coaching staff still says really nice things about Neil frell and I don't think his preseason game was bad by any stretch of the imagination but it didn't stand out nose tackles are kind of hard to watch stand out I think we all as Chiefs fans watched Danny Shelton be probably their best performing nose tackle last year in the preseason and then he didn't make the tap so it is a little difficult to know what they're asking of those guys clogging up the interior but you do want to you know you would like to see Neil f really stand out in terms of holding up blocks dominating second unit offensive lines when he's in there against them third unit guys so like he could still make a really strong push to go from I think he's on the bubble like right there around there to oh maybe he gets into the right side of it with a strong performance because the coaching staff does seem to like him I'm just so fascinated by how this team is going to approach you know it just seems like this year could be something where it feels like they're letting Talent walk at I or they're keeping them and making exceptions to how they typically build their roster does it I mean does it not feel like that to you right now yeah I mean I guess a little bit I I think the Chiefs are in a spot especially with like the back forth of the 53 man roster not that it doesn't matter but I think they are still looking at everything as like hey can we just get ourselves to December can we get ourselves to January and then to February like can we be peing at the right time with all the right guys healthy so if they have the wrong 49th 50th 51st 52nd 53rd player and they have to adjust those as the year go the first half of the year goes along I don't think they care I don't think they care if they have to adjust that so maybe being a little wonky with their typical roster numbers to start the year because depth and need for depth and injuries and everything like that change as the year goes on I wonder if they just simply don't care as much right now yeah I'm I'm I'm wondering like and I I've used a lot of historic Trends to kind of keep my framework in my head and I'm slowly siding with you on some of these where like when we were doing our 53 man roster we had seven this is a joke we had seven defensive tackles kept but it was close and like like I only see four defensive ends that are truly worth being rostered right now and it's like you don't see many more defensive tackles worth being roster than defensive ends either so like it's a bubble fight maybe six with Fabian levette and hard maybe like I I don't know I I don't think the defensive line group as a whole is no much about who's on the bubble and who's making it who's not and it's more of like who's just good enough that they got like the spot like it doesn't really feel like you're competing I say I don't I don't say that to talk down about these guys competing for their livelihood or anything like that but like there's only so many spots in the NFL only so many guys make it right now it seems like the Chiefs final couple defensive line spots are coming up to guys that would have a hard time making 32 other 31 other teams right now just because like the Chiefs are just so thin at that spot yeah cam Jones Cole Christianson Curtis Jacobs kind of competing for spots here um I think Jack Cochran's locked I think Jack Jack Cochran's a lock and then cam starting fights you're the one starting fights in training camp you're a lock buddy you you feel confident about your spot if you're starting fights well like I mean if you look at some of the the the trends and some of the indicators anyway he was already a lock I think um but you know cam Jones Curtis Jacobs Cole Christ Cole Christensen seems like he's more in position even though the Chiefs released him this offseason and brought him back it seems like there's a chance like he's very firmly in the mix of making this 53 man roster um I don't know I I still feel pretty strongly that cam Jones makes this team he played a lot of special team snaps I liked it when he had to play last year and especially that final game where he played a lot of snaps he flashed he made plays I think he's a guy that you want to keep on your team as a special teams player and maybe you can mold him into being a Leo Chanel type replacement if you can't keep him just being like the guy providing the physical downhill kind of run thumping ability from cam Jones so I still kind of like him to make it maybe if you want to keep that extra guy and you're trying to decide between a Cole Christensen and a Curtis Jacobs you can start to look at okay what does a Cochran do what does a cam Jones do and how can they replace the guys ahead of them in case of inj injury do we need the guy that's been here a little bit more in Christensen that we probably feel better about playing all the all of these roles or would we rather have Curtis Jacobs who can be like hyper utilized in a very specific role that we maybe don't have I'm leading Curtis Jacobs because I actually thought he looked decent in the preseason game yeah um I'm leaning him right now but like I I think it's kind of a hard one to pick and choose right now Tucker D Franklin I do have a very important question for you here yeah you look like you're about to get up for a second so no my died on me I don't know I might have to buy ring light on Amazon cuz it just died on me well the good news for this show is you don't have to use your ring light on the camera yeah um Kamal Haden only got seven snaps in the first preseason game yeah what's his outlook look like when it comes to just like where he's playing in the in the rotation is he just a a firm third team guy yeah pretty much I usually only see him and really only notice him during like one-on ones and as I told you guys earlier today in the DMs a lot of times during those offensive uh or the wide receiver and dback one-on ones you're getting The Fringe guys like Kyle sheets is going up there and running a whole lot of routes you're not seeing trp McDuffy versus um Xavier worthy very often so like that's the only time I'm like oh there's Kamal Haden playing a lot of refs is during the one-on-one it's those guys trying to get noticed but yeah during team sessions he is firmly on the 13 team but hey look DJ Miller has been playing pretty well nabbed a couple picks today uh I've noticed him a couple times but again third team Chen throwing balls Ian Ian Ian do Ian book throwing balls as well I think Miles battles look better than Kamal Haden I think Kamal Haden's like the final cornerback listed on the newest depth chart like not that you can read too much into those but like there was a little bit of a shaking up and like the order of a couple positions and I I do believe that he is like the final guy listed on there um him and Nick Jones and then both of them seem to slip down the rotation a little bit after the preseason game I I yeah either one of them could use a strong showing to push for a a final cornerback spot however like I still think they're kind of hard looking on the outside right like how many corners do you think they're keeping six yeah I mean probably six Watson Williams nazy Johnson Kelvin Joseph seems like they still like him he gets in their lot that puts us at five they're keeping one more like do we really are Haden or Nick Jones really pushing the echo boy do pushing Keith Taylor like those guys kind of seem like they've separated themselves from those two and so I especially I've seen Keith Taylor play in the slot and out wide um so yeah I don't know it seems like those two guys Nick Jones and Kad might be on the outside of the bubble and they need strong performances to get back into the conversation because it kind of seems like they're out of it right now it really does if you're getting seven snaps for Kamal Haden seven rough one he hasn't I don't believe he's missed a practice for injury so it's not like they've been like managing his reps it's just him simply getting seven snaps in a preseason game it's not good it's not good and Miles battle I I'm telling you miles battle looked better than him in in that game like and Miles battle did some things that I think Steve spagnol is probably really GNA like you know being physical in the flat um and you know he's got the length in athleticism he's a tier one quarterback athletic tester a cat that Craig Craig Stout did so I mean I don't know I can't forget uh Christian Roland Wallace either um because actually I think they've kind of liked a little bit of what he's done I think they see him as a little bit of as a slot type Corner if I remember right from where he's mostly been playing a little bit but like yeah he's flashed a little bit um he's flashed a little bit to me if like I was you said that like miles battle's been better than those guys from what I've seen from him and like clips from camp or then during that game he's probably been better than Nick Jones and Haden as well I agree I think just from Pure tape like a little bit different how they're utilized but yeah I think Roland Wallace has been better than Miles battle okay let's predict this game because uh it totally matters the Chiefs are currently favored six and a half points against the Detroit Lions I don't know what to expect from this game as far as how much you know Patrick Mahomes and the first team offense are really going to play I just know that the second that second team offense offensive line gets in is bad news for the Chiefs so I'm just asking you do you think six and a half is a too big of a line for a pre-season game uh with the Chiefs versus the Lions here because I feel like I know Jared G's not going to play and I think that the lions are going to get very quickly into their um you know their depth but man the Chiefs the chief's young offensive line just looked real rough in that first game I don't know I don't know if we how confident you feel that they're going to be able to put together a good performance really here I am so not commenting on who's going to win a preseason game and by how much I will say that in this game though I think the chief second unit offensive line will play slightly better than it did against the Jags because I think you had a lot of young guys that needed that first initial experience they got over the shock and awe and while I think they might still be a problem throughout the whole year if the Chiefs have to dip into it I do expect them to be a little bit more game like like ready just mentally for this Lions game so yeah I do think the second unit offensive line look better which takes me to my biggest thing to watch in this game is I want to see the running backs I I want to see if Carson steel can continue to put up a performance like did he had some really bad run blocking and he made the most of it generic pins had really bad run blocking and he didn't make the most of it it was also a lot of zone for Prince a lot of Gap stuff for Carson steel you know thing yeah yeah Eddie exactly guy Eddie High out here exactly this game I want to see what the running I want to see the running backs kind of look like I I think that'll be big I want to see if cars steal can continue the momentum with a little bit better blocking I want to see if daic Prince can get going a little bit more and I want to see because I saw it in the camp Clips again they're running a lot of power even during training camp and they ran a lot of power a lot of trap during the first preseason game it doesn't tell you everything but they seem to be drilling it an awful lot for a team that has traditionally run those two runs like 10% of all of their runs in the season uh who plays right tackle with the ones Lucas Nang I think I don't think Joan tayor is gonna play in this game for sure I unless he unless he comes back tomorrow in there and he just like realistically had a shoulder injury because like you know he had a mosquito bite I think Lucas dang is your first right tackle on the field I have a feeling it's not a mosquito bite on the shoulder but um I don't I don't I heard impo is a thing now maybe it's that I don't know did you hear that that's going to do it for the Casey laboratory thank you all so much for listening we love you we appreciate you we'll catch you later you ever heard about impo you don't have a torn Peck
