all right first pitch coming up and today's starter Clayton Kershaw what do you look for here well what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season so when you consider consistency the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners that's critical in winning games today especially when teams are depending on the big swing the home run to win ball games ready to go now up for Tampa Bay yandi Diaz and a foul ball first 6 the one next offering misses down and away [Applause] and he deals that missed by a lot they count now two and [Applause] two kicks andial bows it back with two [Applause] strikes and now the count filled up three and two Kershaw fires HS and misses it's a strike down it's a strike out but they'll be in good shape if they make their outs as difficult as that one those grinding ABS take a tone on picture as the game goes on and now it's Brandon la la batting second in today's lineup and he was a third round pick back in 2015 first pitch and that's in for a strike lifted in the air out to left puts it away for the out and there are two outs all right let's take a look at the raay lineup someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs Jose cavero well boo there aren't many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does I mean batting over 400 with runners in scoring position are you kidding me I I know it's not guaranteed or an automatic but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not and that drops in for a strike this to third oh a great grab on the dive to his knee the throw and very nicely done for the out well that right there was all pre pitch positioning put himself and the perfect spot to make a great [Applause] play and we're back and today's starter Taj Bradley and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with Runners and scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout right through there for a strike oh this guy is so comfortable hitting with two strikes even a good pitch early in the atat if he's not ready to pull the trigger he's not worried if he gets to an 02 count cuts and misses it's a strike out very frustrating right there as a speedy potential B Runner when with two strikes you just struggle to put the ball in play you don't even have to get a hit at that point you can help your team just by reaching on an eror but some way got to find a way to shorten up the swing and put the ball in play next time Zips it to first two up two down okay let's check out the lineup a really frustrating showing for them in their last game lots of traffic on the bases but they left a ton of Runners on base couldn't cash in their chances Chris they had plenty of chances there's no nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively they just did a poor well we'll hold that thought as that's the third out and we'll end the inning scoreless back here in La now it's the second baseman Christopher Morell Christoper Morell no score Kershaw back to work delivers that misses ball one [Applause] [Applause] Kershaw deals and it's w to know that one missed Gary Simmons are played umpire today sort of has a reputation as a pitcher umpire yeah a little bit of a wider Zone than most I'd say and a wide Zone can be tough to deal with as a hitter cuz you have to start expanding what you're looking for covering both sides and with the stuff pitchers have today you're just not going to have a lot of success that Clips the inside corner for a strike how much were you aware of the Umpire Scouting Report or even who was going to be umpiring not a whole lot I mean there were a couple of umpires that weren't real good but outside of that you just kind of went into the game especially back when I was playing to third over to to first two away as the game has moved along we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires I've been in clubhouses where they have pictures of all four umpires nicknames hometowns and as well Hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the Umpire a little bit that's ball that drops in there [Applause] line drive base hit right field man aboard on the leadoff single nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly and now they've got some speed on first so we'll see if they try to get him into motion and now it's Gavin Lux seems like he's making contact with everything lately batting over 300 so far this month F off foul rander kick deals on the ground and that one handled the toss to Second throw to first but he beat it the batter now will be Will Smith ground ball could be two walls flips to Second out what a double play that was inning over no runs one hit no errors and no one left we played two full no [Music] score well here we go top of the third scoreless game and stepping in for the Rays Taylor walls the pitch just [Applause] missed the one- one is fouled off [Applause] the why to kick the pitch stays [Applause] alive spoils the two strike pitch and he'll see another five foul balls in a row I have no idea what that feels like but you got to love this battle just wondering he's going to first he swung over top of the curveball I got to think that was the plan all the way he set him up with a high fast and then bury that curveball down low to get him swinging now especially with how effective pitch work up in the zone these days that's a devastating combination so next to the plate for Tampa Bay Cameron Meisner the pitch is in for a strike it's O and one top of the third no [Applause] score missed with a change up and that's ball [Music] one wouldn't chase that time [Applause] next offering is in for a strike got him swinging oh that right there is just a pitcher's pitch tailing away from The Hitter blowing away with some good action at the end know even if he gets the back to that ball it's probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side tell you what that's a tremendous two strike pitch and here's the [Applause] catcher swinging a foul back that's out of play two out Bas is [Applause] empty on the ground right side Lux Rays retired in order nine straight retired here to start the game we're tied nothing nothing back here at Chavez Ravine ready to go for the last half of the inning and at the plate for the Dodgers Max Muny swings through that one for strike one you know these Dodgers as you probably noticed haven't been shy at the plate at all in fact they probably been too aggressive at times they're specifically talking about the first pitch these batters are swinging more than 80% of the time which is fine if you're scoring runs but that hasn't been the case today M hits one in the a low has it sized up and puts the squeeze on that one and there's one away B again Short Stop Tommy and here comes Tommy Edmond good Defender he's been inconsistent offensively the short stop takes the ball he never moved cuz he never had time to with that kind of velocity you'd prefer that pitcher work away right field down the line and that one slices foul [Applause] right side tosses to First and they get Edmund for the out batting the here's Kier Meer now you talk about Elite defensive players especially in the middle of the diamond and this guy is at the top of the list and first off ring is fouled off and you played behind guys and they loveed having your speed out there defensively one of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those Elite Defenders behind them throws the first inning over Dodgers down in order all set for the start of the inning at the plate now for the Rays is the DH yandi Diaz as the Lefty gets to work pitch in for a strike going one the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn't either hitting wise you can struggle you can lose your mechanics but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you're talented in that way and this is what this guy does this one in the air center field he's got it one away La at the plate now the first br one and the first pitch misses for ball [Applause] one just [Music] missed one down base is empty now three and0 and the Rays hitless so far in the game a swing and a miss and that's strike one three ball one strike here comes a pitch swings through that one for strike two pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track [Applause] here's a highfly ball out to Center km trying to get there no trouble here puts it away for the out two down this is Dylan Carlson he's over one car Carlson measures 6' 2 in 200 lb and they traded for him earlier this year swing and a miss said let the hitter get his arms extended tied him up a little bit slightly up slightly in fourth inning underway no score just misses the mark outside the Zone it's a good take swings through it and that's a strike out nothing doing for Tampa still no score bottom four now it's a your lead off hitter sh OT Bradley back to work that one's in there strike one he's looking great so far helps with over 80% of your first pitches or strikes he might be able to go the distance if he keeps this one down the middle for a strike o and two two strikes to a guy who's already 0 for one with the punch out the only guy in the lineup with that strike out but you can't get too relaxed you still got to make good pitches to get him out and that's downstairs and outside bouns it off still one and two and the pitch L Drive face here so a man on base to start the inning just so sound in his mechanics against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field now it's m Betts swing and a ball lifted left field and Betts is set down and there's one down Freddy Freeman up to the dish swing it fou straight [Applause] [Music] back now move to First Otani back easily base runner with a one-way lead right there all he's trying to do is get a look at the pitcher's move had no intent of stealing on that pitch that one to First slides but it gets by lead Runner makes the turn at second to third not in time and it's Runners at the corners with one gone and now teoscar Hernandez he's already singled in this game that one finds the Zone strike one well all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning left field sizing this one up drops into the glove Runner tagging from Third Run scores easily and it's one nothing well he's always capable losing one over the fence he might have just missed it right there but a good job to drive in that run from third and next for La Gavin lucks go for one he hit into a fielder's choice this first time that immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter there's a strike perhaps not quite ready to hit first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes now back is against the walls going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly out towards left Center moving under this one he's got it and that is that they get a run on two hits no errors and a man left we go to the top of the fifth here's the second baseman Christopher Morell and ball one well these RS just aren't putting together very many good bats in this one we're in the back half of the game and they're still searching for a base runner he's been great out there on the mound no doubt but it's also been a disappointing performance at the plate to this [Applause] point he was all over that one showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right mun slings to Second out the first dou play as a former player watching 543 B plays brings back some aill it's such an exciting play and it's always a great reminder of baseball being such a team sport Jose Cavo next to hit for the [Applause] Rays and that one fouled off two outs that breaking ball is in for a strike and quickly it is nothing in twoe down to the dirt swing and a miss that completes the strike out and that'll do [Applause] it bottom of the inning and now the catcher comes up to hit Will Smith [Applause] foul ball [Music] there and a pitch tapped at the plate but it's a foul ball battling here as he fouls it away there's a pitch we haven't seen in a while it's going be tough on the hitters if he can mix that in whatever he [Applause] wants lined in left Center base hit so a runner aboard to start the inning once he digs in flyed to right his first [Applause] time a little out front there as he swings through it you know these Dodgers simply put are producing a lot of quality swings they've hit seven line drives already and even though some of them have been for outs there's nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact that's almost always going to lead to positive results [Applause] foul ball still ow and [Applause] two gets a piece and stays [Applause] alive Feld two keeps the it back going with a foul ball runner at first with no outs here that one ripped low going back on this one and brings it in at the wall Tommy Edmond at the pl grounded out his first time up Tommy Ed close but called the ball and that is is ball [Applause] one light drive and a face hit right there they get it in quickly so first and second now one out solid swing from start to end on time with everything really good balance nice extension and he made it out front for the line drive now K swings through it which one so they're making a move for a bat Off the Bench Jason [Applause] haward trying to improve that match up for a very important bat in this game the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn't expect many pitches up in the zone they'll be pitching for a double play in this spot swing and a miss him out nice job behind the plate there well obviously that was nowhere near the strike zone by the time it got to the play and people watching or thinking what's he swinging at but I'll tell you some of the break guys snap off these days is just devastating could be so tough to recognize where a pitch like that's going to end up here's Jo Otani Dives but it kicks off his glove he doesn't have a play and everyone safe the bases are [Music] loaded here's mooki now that one catches the a corner for a [Applause] strike and a pitch now this one's crushed down the line looking foul ball oh man that's a tough one to swallow had the distance just couldn't keep it fair imagine how great that feels running around the bases when you just hit a granny he's got to dig back in throws the first in time and Bets is gone Dodgers leave him loaded but they still lead it one [Applause] nothing so the Dodgers have a new arm on the mound Joe Kelly on for the 30th time this year number 99 Joe Kelly pass ball for a strike and it's O and [Applause] one that one lifted to left no trouble here puts it away for the ey going up on down next to hit for the Rays well such a confidence boost for a relever to come into the ball game and get the first hitter he faces just makes everything slow down a little bit and then from there can really settle in swing in a Miss gets a piece there we'll do it [Applause] again and he'll chew this to center field Hernandez on the Move PS it in on the run two down and now the catcher for the Rays misses just off the outside edge I think that was a strike J swing and a one oh appeal a third and James Kingsley says he won around the Dodgers up by a run and we're the top half of the six [Applause] cut on and Miss struck him out and it's a three up three down inning so they make short work of them there hard of the order three4 five coming up it's the Dodgers one back here at Dodgers Stadium well we go bottom six Here Comes Freddy Freeman up to hit the line of the pitch swing and a ball lifted in the air shallow left field and there's one down here's teoscar Hernandez he's been a great free agent side and a foul [Applause] [Music] ball swing and a pop off in foul ground cavier makes the grab two down well on the mound very efficient able to produce outcome it seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every bat and first off ring is fouled off the pitch popped up cabero drifts towards it he's got it and that'll end the inning Dodgers go down quietly they lead it one nothing and we're back we go to the top of the seven here's the Ray's lead off hitter yandi Diaz just [Applause] [Music] [Applause] missed looking to get the tying run on base in the air to left Center reaching for it and brings it in that's a tough play for the infielder ranging back into the Outfield there's part of him that's saying hey where you at outfielder call me off but he stayed focus and made a nice catch right there L now the Box comes up empty with a swing [Applause] there Off the Mark there and the count is one and one hold holding on to a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven and now two and one and there's a strike at 98 got swinging on the curve ball two gone now right there is one of those breaking balls that you way through and you feel like you should have done something with it or at least spoiled it away but when it's breaking in on you like that if the spin is tight enough it can actually tie you up next to hit Dylan Carlson a little bit High maybe ball one Kelly 35 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season Hernandez hauls it in to end the [Applause] inning set for the [Applause] last half of the seventh and up to the plate is Will [Music] Smith and first offering is fouled off kicks and fires Line Drive caught nothing you can do about those as a hitter even though you know that still drive you absolutely crazy here's Muny to hit and he can't make the play but plenty of time to recover and that's the second out two outs Bas is empty Tommy Edmond steps to the plate for the Dodgers one for [Applause] two there's a swing and a drive could the extra bases makes the turn and heads for second in safely it's a double at his second hit well clearly he was ready to hit right there just a solid swing Tyler Alexander on the pitch here and that's a big potential run out there at second as he comes in trying to keep the deficit where it is for the infielders they got to be thinking about keeping the ball from getting by them into the Outfield any way they can he's got it and that is the third third out of the inning we're back and on the mound is the closer Ryan braer these are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close there's not much margin for error but at the same time there's a reason they're put in these situations at the belt and fires and another ball [Applause] right-handed reliever and that one is in the dirt and that's ball [Applause] [Music] three that one is absolutely belted and it is gone on a solo shot his 21st of the year and we have a tie ball game it's 111 the crowd is just devastated here in Los Angeles low in the box now takes strike one swings through that that was exciting to see a lead out home run in an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning hard grounder into the outfield for a knock so the goahead run is on base with a knock always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through it's just bigger than your own individual stats couldn't get any air under it but he's smoked that ball back up the middle timing was just perfect got great wood on it and there's just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it and now let's see if they force some action with good Wheels on the bases highfly ball out to left field Hayward under it squeezes [Applause] it now up for Tampa Bay Taylor walls ground ball right side could be two there's one not in time at first it's a fielder's Choice well there's a lot riding on that at bat right there nice job with the pitcher to Bear Down make the pitch get the ground ball excellent piece of work up to bat next lays front lift it into the Outfield that's one of our this looks like extra bases BS around second headed for third head run holds up at third as the ball comes back in second and third after the double oh just a nice job coming through in a pretty high level calling for the intentional walk and that loads Up The Bases and the force play [Applause] is in order [Applause] Lux in the box with one away as he takes ball one so now will pinch hit Miguel Roos a critical inat in this game for him and now the Lefty little Chopper roll foul in the infield at the corners don't be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring the pitch bounced up the middle lays out but he can't squeeze it here's one to First not in time great effort there next up the Dodgers catcher Will Smith one for three now a screamer into the Outfield drops in for a hit couldn't run it down one run is in around third now a relay to the plate he'll score two runs are in it's 4-1 didn't take long to get a result they turn things over to the South ball Richard loveely and this could be a pretty critical point in this game they're hoping he's the guy to keep him within Striking Distance on the ground to First sneaks through face head now a long throw home but it's off it's 5-1 makes himself up an R ey just one of those seen eye based hits through the infield he just kind of rolled over on it a little bit but sometimes those can find the hole and get you KN now here is down the right field line that's a base hit lead Runner around second and the throws off line safe at [Applause] third here's Jason Hayward [Applause] swing and that ball smashed on the line Meisner brings it in and that'll do it nine men come to the plate for score ninth inning coming up it's the Dodgers five the Rays one so remaining in the game defensively Miguel he entered the game to pinch hit and now man second base new pitcher coming on the veteran Lake TR and he's got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these hitters and now the catcher for the Rays the pitch and first offering is fouled off [Music] left-and hitter waits he swings and fouls one off swings and misses struck him out Yi Diaz now swing and a miss and he got him to chase good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time gets in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to it Roos with the throw to first down to the last out for the Rays and now the first baseman Brandon LA and a foul [Applause] ball righty to the plate and there's a foul ball this could end it good job to fight that one off two down nobody on that's Off the Mark now one and [Applause] two now he's desperately looking for that swing and Miss he's going to have to just change and that'll
