a quarterfinalist so many freaking times and finally a semi-finalist that's what Jessica Pula told the crowd in New York After Rolling the one seed eish fantic tonight Jessica congratulations you were Sensational what is most satisfying about the way you performed in steamrolling onto the semis um I think what was so nice I mean obviously making the semi but I think just you know prime time 7 o'clock on ash um my home Slam in New York City against the number one player in the world I feel like all of those other things really made it a lot more special and um I'm so glad that I was also able to to win it somewhat convincingly too um I I you know wanted to get it done in straights and and not leave it up to Chance in a third set so I'm happy with the way I battled in the second set and was able to close it out she hadn't dropped a set coming in she didn't win a set tonight is was there one thing Jessica specifically one one portion of the game it looked like all of it but if there's one thing that you could point to you say I really was great in this tonight what would it be um I mean I think it's what I do best which is I you know have good ground strokes I was using uh my ability to change the direction of the ball really well especially because these courts are a little bit faster and I think just being able to to do that over and over again um was starting to frustrate her a lot so I think you know being able to take time and and change direction is something I did really well it is New York City and there are a lot of American flags on the board there aren't many names left both on the men's and women's side I just as best as best as you could describe to Folks at home I was lucky enough to be in the city last week and be there at Ash and and and get a sense of the place but I can't imagine what it would be like if if we had two Americans in the in the final on the women's side we've got two Americans meeting in the men's side and and the semis how does that amplify what is already just an incredible incredible event I mean it's it's amazing I you know I wanted to be that fourth American so bad um in the in the semis and I know the men it's they're guaranteed to get one which is crazy for men's you know American men's tennis I mean it's been so long obviously with the women we had Venus and Serena for a long time and it got very spoiled and obviously Coco um winning it last year but uh yeah it's incredible I mean I hope we can make it an All-American final that would be absolutely amazing but um super excited for the men's side too I mean being able to see those guys I've a lot of events with them and know them both really really well and I they definitely uh inspired me as long as um as well as Emma the other day to to try and get through today so I'm just happy that uh yeah I was able to secure that fourth spot well we do our show down here in DC so we're we're all in for big foe I mean we'd support any American that that made it on but it' be really cool in our little neck of the woods if he was able to get through and and break the uh the drought on the men's side I I just want to close with this Jessica because on the one hand it has to be incredibly satisfying given who you beat how you beat her in the stage but but I also wonder like that can't be you can't be satisfied enough right I mean this isn't this isn't what you you didn't show up to make the semis ideally you could get on through and win so how how do you fight what is human nature on one hand to be really really proud and satisfied and not let that be enough yeah exactly I mean at the same time you know like Kobe always said job's not finished so even though I'm happy to to win the match tonight I mean I have to it'll be I'll snap my fingers it'll feel like you know the day is flown by and I'll be back here tomorrow night having to play a semi and already being in tough positions and trying to battle and against a girl that I just played you know a few weeks ago where we had a really tough three set match and someone that's had experience in later slams is a great player super athletic um is really enjoying her time here in New York City and playing some good tennis so I'm going to have to yeah go right back to battle tomorrow night but um trying to to be proud of myself what I've done tonight but at the same time like from Once I wake up in the morning it's right you know back to restarting and resetting it'll be a home game Jessica you know that and when in doubt quote Kobe I love it job's not finished but a job a job well done tonight thanks for sharing a little time with us here for on Sports Center thank you yeah thanks guys [Music] he
