Intro next week that's how this be so Pop I mean cheese I miss cheese you miss Chris blue it [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Commanders Trade Jahan Dotson too pop what's going on man son how are you doing good man hey everything look all right over here I just want to check it looks we all everything's everything's in the right position it looks good nothing like a pod restart to to bring the boy's energy level up yeah nothing gets me fired up like you know getting getting setup tweaks in the middle of a sentence about Jan Dawson being traded but anyways that's the headline here today guys Jan Dawson has been traded we're going to talk Jan Dawson trade we're also going to talk roster prediction we're not going to spend too much time on the trade figure it's Monday you guys have already gotten your breakdown we're just going to give us our takes on it but if you've been either living under a rock or you only trust Dom and pop for your Commander's information which would be wise of you if that's if we're your trusted Source if you only trust dama pop then let us break the news to you Johan Dawson has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a third round pick and two seventh round picks as well in the 202 5 NFL draft now we did also give up a fifth so the entire deal Jan and a fifth rounder for a third rounder and two sevenths to the Philadelphia Eagles so in the division I got my take on this I got how I feel about it I'm going to let you set the table pop let the people know how you're feeling about this yeah it was a shocker I think that's you know it's hard to not say it was um you know we did our wide receiver wide receiver group uh disc discussion on the last pod and of course that got out Thursday morning and within a couple of hours of the Pod getting released it got torched and blown up by this because I uh famously predicted that Jan Dodson would have a bounceback year that didn't age very well um I would say a couple things I get the fact that they made the trade or that Jan doson just wasn't a great fit for what they wanted on this team uh I think one point that I heard which was I thought a really good one was you know Dan Quinn coached against John doson four times in four different games so he obviously had a really good scouting report on Jan and then you know we've heard some Rumblings about body language and effort levels um and you know that that that's another thing but I also just think that you know he's got some issues in his game you know in terms of his physicality and his ability to get open off the line you know that have been problems um he hasn't flashed much in in this off season and you know I I applaud them for making a quick decision I don't love the compensation and I don't love the fact that he's going to the Eagles and not just because they're in the division which is a factor but also because the Eagles don't miss much they must see something in Jan that they really like now I know he's wide receiver three he's pretty much if you think about it been wide receiver three here too let's not forget we had Curtis Sam who was second in catches last year so he hasn't really been in that wide receiver 2 position that we keep trying to push him into and project him into so maybe has a third guy there third or fourth guy there he thrives um we'll have to wait and see but I do understand it from a Commander's point of view he just wasn't a fit here I am nervous about that wide receiver group but we'll get into that when we talk about our roster predictions yeah it's uh it's interesting you know I kind of got lit up in the group chat cuz a couple weeks ago when people when these Jan reports were coming out some national pundits were like I wonder if Jan's even going to be on the Commander's roster and they were kind of you know giving me a hard time group chat about that and I said like man that's that's garbage like I just don't see how that happens with this wide receiver group um even if he's the wide receiver four we just don't have enough depth to do that and sure enough I got uh I got you know my message replied to and put back up in the chat on the day of the trade I got let know um so I got to hold that man that was tough uh hey I'm on record saying he was gonna be get the second Targets on the team I was obviously very wrong about yeah stuff happens I mean I did to be fair I did say in the next message I was like I think if anything maybe they trade him to the 49ers in iuk package but my guess is Shanahan would say you can keep Jan doson we're not interested and that's actually exactly what was uh was discussed per some reports um that's telling so there you go yeah you want to talk about a team that doesn't miss um I know that was one of your concerns pop is that Philly just doesn't miss right yes so you don't really like the fact that Philly doesn't miss and they see something in Jan but I would argue man Philly collapsed down the stretch last year and they had issues with health they had issues in the secondary well roster is not built as solidly top to bottom and with depth as you'd think I mean you look at their wide receiver 3es over the previous years guys like quz Watkins guys like Oz who's on the commanders now these are not guys that have been high producers um they did make a big splash play for AJ brown but AJ Brown anybody who knows anything about football could tell you is a freak Talent um so I don't SC the Eagles that that much in that regard I mean yeah they're a top five organization in football but it doesn't I want to get us out of that Dan Snider mindset that there has to be a winner and a loser for every trade I want to get us out of that mindset because I don't think that's good to look at in terms of football business I don't think there can be a world where Jan goes to Philly and gets 650 yards and you know 80 catches or whatever next season and has a decent year as a wide receiver three on that offense and we also have a decent year we don't really miss him because he didn't fit into the system and we go on and we grab a great left guard with that draft pick next year we go on and we grab a great cornerback with that draft pick we use that draft pick to move up in the first round to get an elite left tackle there are worlds where these things can benefit both of us and I understand to a degree you don't want to help out somebody in the division right but Craig Hoffman said this on a 1067 the fan he was doing a a sit in with JP Finley to a degree you got to keep your eyes on your own paper right and the Eagles and the commanders are two organizations in radically different positions right now the commanders are trying to tear down what did not work and rebuild you can call it a recalibrate you can call it uh whatever you want to call it they are trying to rebuild which in the NFL takes two to three seasons they're trying to rebuild from what was an abysmal they were the worst team in football last year abysmal season last year they are trying to rebuild from that the Eagles are trying to plug whatever holes they could plug and win the Super Bowl now because they just signed a $260 million quarterback and they have all these receivers on all these big money contracts that they're not going to be able to keep around and they collapsed down the stretch last year they are grasping at putting things together let's go get saquin let's go get Jan doson let's bring back CJ Garner Johnson they are trying to plug the holes on a ship that looks like it is starting to sink so that they can hopefully get to shore these are two completely different organizations I think I think completely different directions but I'll just say this right and and you know my closing thoughts right I think that it's we're in a honeymoon period with Dan Quinn and Adam Peters right sure but automatically just think and you brought up some great points but that Adam Peters is outsmarted the Eagles and you know this kid can't play and what are they doing we we obviously see he can't play that's our opinion but doesn't mean we're right doesn't mean we're automatically right time will tell and that's the thing that just makes me take pause is because I think in terms of roster building the Eagles have have traditionally done a really good job and if they see something in Jian and obviously we don't see the fit there you know that's the only thing that gives me a little bit of pause and I think it's a bit of arrogance to think that you know as much as high as we are in Adam Pier is that for sure he's right about this yeah it's a bit of arrogance to think that I respect that as a fan base I respect that I I think my my closing thoughts on this would be again I I don't particularly view it as it has to be either Jan sucks and we fleece the Eagles or Adam Peters got taken advantage of I think there's a world where Jan could go to the Eagles be a good player for them and he also didn't fit into what we were trying to do here and is not we've seen it you see it happen all across the NFL there are wide receivers that don't fit into certain systems leave go to another team do better or vice versa you saw what happened when Juju Smith Schuster left Pittsburgh right he was benefiting from that system he left and all of a sudden he's not the type of player you need this is a guy that was going to be wide receiver for or maybe a cut candidate on 53 Man Roster Predictions this roster who knows like it was he was trending in the wrong direction and at my opinion you get your value when you can right now and even if he goes off to be a good player somewhere else the fit was broken here it wasn't making sense it's like the Trent Williams thing Trent Williams was not coming back and of course there was a million off the field issues you could have got a first rounder for him and you chose not to because you were arrogant about the whole situation and then you you end up getting a fifth rounder for him later on it's I'm not making the argument I'm not making the argument for keeping Jan I just you know and we don't know what other offers they got obviously the Eagles made the best offer but I'm sure they think you know I've saw the Eagles reaction and fan base and the team itself I'm sure they think they got a really good deal out of this so all that's all I'm saying and I prefer not to be making deals with the Eagles yeah it in our division I just prefer not to be doing that doesn't bother me I'd have tooken a fourth or a fifth from somebody else Far Far Away doesn't doesn't bother me all that much but that's fine I think you also have to when you have the perspective of how excited we've been about Adam Peters and the whole in Adam Peters we trust thing he's not dumb either he knows the fan perception of this move he knows how it's going to look he knows the fact that people are going to be upset he's going with the Divi the division if you were so excited about Peters a month ago like we all were and now you see him make this really bold move he's sticking his neck out this is a bold move to make at this point in his tenure you see him make this really bold move all right in my opinion how I see it I almost take a little bit of comfort in like he knows he's sticking his neck out he knows this is a bold move you're flipping what was a first rounder for a third round pick you saw the Lions uh trade for Jeff okuda or trade away Jeff okuda a couple years ago for a third rounder um and they picked that guy number three overall like at a certain point you gota you got to cut bait when it doesn't work and he's sticking his neck out and if we're going to be Adam Peters we trust and he's going to stick his neck out like this I'm willing to get behind it and trust it because I think he's not stupid and he knows how big of a move this this is that being said I think we've already spent about twice the amount of time we allotted on the Jan trade on this bit I knew this was going to happen because we both have pretty strong opposing feelings about this um but what do you say we agree to disagree guys in the comments let us know who side you're on with this one uh and what do we you want to move on pop yes please all right let's do it so 53 man roster predictions pop tee this one up while I have a sip of water because I'm about to Rattle off 53 football players names yeah we're going to give a quick 53 man roster prodiction that's that's the week that we're in right roster cuts are coming out I think it'll be Tuesday this will get released Monday morning so we just thought it'd be fun to just give a quick you know Dom pop 53 man roster position not sure if we've done this before so we are going to Rattle it off pretty quick and maybe just talk a little bit about the position battles on the back end of the roster I mean there are a lot of these guys that don't make the team will end up on the practice squad you can carry 16 on the practice squad now um uh and you could carry vets as well so just keep that in mind that you know doesn't mean the guy's going to be gone some of these close decisions more than likely unless they get claimed by somebody else those guys are goingon to end up on a practice squad yep all right so we're gonna go through all these guys one by one we're going to Rattle off a lot of names we're not going to give you an in-depth breakdown as to why Terry mcclaren's making the roster po you got some I just want to also mention there's a the we're gonna get deeper into Jaden Daniels in the next section of this pod so hang on for that we'll talk a little bit more about Jaden and our overall take because we know there's been a lot of takes on Jaden so just hang on for that but it'll be right after this roster roster discussion there you go so guys Jaden Daniels will be making the 53 man roster just in case anybody was worried about that so we have that there goes my a there it is all right me me me me me voice warmed up let's get into it nobody better to start this with Terry McClaren Oz Luke maccaffrey Casmir Allen dami Brown Jameson Crowder all at wide receiver there wide receiver is an interesting one now we got Jan doson gone you've got that six names right there do you see them carrying six or seven pop and if not who are you swapping in if they're carrying seven do you think Casmir Allen's that sixth guy I don't personally think so but what do you got I you know I had Casmir Allen down only because he just seems to pop up on I mean everyone's talking about him Dan Quinn's talking about him kingsberry is talking about him I'm not overly impressed when I see him play and dropping balls and fumbling but they seem to just beaned by his plead I think kingsberry compared him to Samuels out of San Francisco which was kind of wild he he we referenced that him being in that kind of role he's that you know it seems like they can sneak him in at running back back or receiver like I said I'm not I'm not overly high on him but I think he's going to make the roster just because they keep bringing him up yeah I don't know I think he might be a practice squad guy but I I would I would go Bryson Tain in that sixth spot he brings he brings something that you don't have with the size he's been making a lot of plays first man to the practice field every single uh every single week apparently or every day um but I they could keep seven between those two maybe they keep seven I I mean I think I think we're gonna get into it but like you know there's there's four possible tight ends maybe they go seven and four three on tight ends that's a that's a very little possibility too right we'll we'll get into it one linan I mean there's a lot of different minations that could happen here yeah so then on the offensive line I say we get it right into that you got Brandon Coleman Cornelius Lucas at left tackle then you got Nick Alig Chris Paul left guard Tyler badish Michael deer and Ricky Stromberg at Center Sam Cosby at Right Guard and at right tackle Andrew Wy and Trent Scott I think this is about right I don't have much to say about this um you wonder if they keep strongberg if strongberg ends up a practice squad candidate um but I think strongberg is Braden Daniels I mean the only thing that I liked about strongberg was he he plays guard and Center yeah I know he's been kind of he's been a bit of a ghost so far this off season even though he was a key piece last year so yeah I'm stunned I'm stunned that a late round Rivera pick has uh has been a ghost in his second year um Braden Daniels I think practice squad candidate Ricky Stromberg I think practice squad candidate again just going to kind of come down to how these numbers shake out but you're definitely locked in I think with Coleman Lucas Alig Paul bades deer cosmy Wy Trent Scott I think those guys for sure um I don't know who knows maybe they don't keep Trent Scott and they add another tackle as guys get cut across you usually keep it nine or 10 right so like with strongberg it's 10 without him it's nine um feels like you know it gives you one backup at each position which kind of feels about right if you keep them but we shall see yeah we shall see and I mean we do have a little bit of optionality you know Wy can play guard cosmi can play tackle uh Paul can play tackle if he needs to you have a little bit of optionality there you don't want to be in that position but you do have some position Flex as the old Administration would call it uh at tight end you've got Zack hers John Bates Ben cinate Cole Turner I think this is an interesting group obviously her baates uh Cate are locks Turner you wonder if this becomes one of those things where they say hey it's more valuable for us to keep four running backs or it's more valuable for us to keep seven wide receivers or for us to keep you know six safeties or whatever it is um Cole Turner might be a casualty there um I think practice squad Coulson yankov is another uh another candidate there he a guy that's made plays But ultimately I just think he's not ready to crack into that group yet from what I've been hearing UM quarterback you've got jayton Daniels Marcus Mariota and I'm sure they'll carry Driscoll per that like third quarterback rule where it doesn't really count against your roster um that'll probably be how that probably goes to Injured preser would be my guess they'll stash him there yeah I don't know what's going on with Hartman's shoulder um doesn't sound overly serious I mean he he did dress and was warming up against in last week but well it's interesting because if you put him on IR he has to be out for the year which I guess there was no plan in which you want him in for the year anyways right now um but maybe he's another he's probably another practice squad candidate I don't see anybody poaching him at this point but who knows um running back Brian Robinson Jr recently named running back one by Cliff kingsberry he made a point of saying that's our rb1 and he is thrilled about Brian Robinson Jr I've gone a record saying I think he's easily be a top top 10 maybe top eight running back this year um I really believe in Brian Robinson Jr I really believe in what this team is going to do in terms of running the football um but I love Brian Robinson at running back there Austin Eckler apparently has looked like the Austin Eckler of old in training camp he was battling a few injuries let's see maybe we got a steal there and uh Jeremy McNichols which is the interesting one because this is kind of a this is a key example of just like Chris Rodriguez Jr flashed in garbage time last year and he's just not this administration's guy they did not draft him they brought in MC Nichols is looking Bleak for Rodriguez Jr I mean he's doing interviews talking about blocking in special teams and really trying to focus on that so when you're at that point you wonder if he can uh if he can make his way onto this roster prce Squad If he if he doesn't get cut he might not even make it to the practice squad I think if he doesn't get claimed he'll be on our practice squad at the very minimum but sure I mean even Michael Wy has flashed a bit but you can only keep so many right yeah it's a it's tough to say but that's just the reality of the running back position you know the league is full of guys like Chris Rodriguez Jr and you kind well and the thing is you gotta keep in mind speaking of flex right Ben cinate can can play a bit of fullback or HB or whatever you call it Casmir Allen they seem to want to get him the ball out of Back Field ball security scares me to death but they seem to like that idea so I don't see any more than three uh run pure running backs and then probably mixing some carries in for some of these other receivers or or you know I don't know that cnic gets carries but he can be in the back field as a blocker even a pass Receiver right yep yeah exactly um and then let's get into the defense that's pretty much the pretty much the breakdown there right so defensively we've got uh Cleveland frell pop has KJ Henry I'm not so sure uh don Payne John Ridgeway Phil mattisse dorrence Armstrong and uh John B javante John Baptist on the defensive line I don't know about matthysse and I don't know about Henry those would be my two that I'm not so sure I I don't know how that shakes out fa obada is another name that you kind of have a is he hurt what's going on with obata do you know Pop I don't know I I think he has been dealing with some injury stuff pull yeah um but obas also generally doesn't count against the uh the 53 because of that International Player thing um you get every team gets to have like one international chart at Fourth straying on defensive end but maybe that doesn't mean a whole lot I don't understand that I think he's given you more than KJ Henry's given you I think he's given you more than javante John Baptist projects to give you I don't know Andre Jones Jr is another name that you wonder does he sneak in there um I don't know man I'm not sold on KJ Henry I'm not sold on Phil mathys um but you got you look at this these guys you look at this one in particular you know Don John Allen Johnny Newton are pretty much sticking probably Ridgeway you'd throw into that I mean yeah he's got experience with King dorrence Armstrong John batist CL Cleland Ferell I mean they're all guys that they brought into into this team for the new Administration you know that seems like I feel like to me and I know what you said about KJ hry but I don't know I mean they could slide Jamon Davis in there and keep an extra linebacker that's very real possibility and that's where some maybe some Flex could occur with in terms of how they're utilizing Jamon um it'll be interesting I agree mathys is definitely on the bubble he's another guy though that I think gets claimed if he goes um but he's he's definitely on the bubble I don't know I don't I don't know if Mattis has a job I mean do you need five interior linemen yeah that's a guy matthysse is like a guy that two years ago most people had a fourth or fifth round grade on that Ron took in the second round cuz Ron thought he's smarter than everybody else we know how that story ended and he's played like less than 12 games in two years and has like single digit tackles so I I think it could be the end of matthysse's NFL career if he leaves in DC maybe he's a practice squad candidate somewhere else um but I think I think matys is gone personally and I think Henry might be gone as well and you slide in Jamon Davis or you know that you have Jamon Davis and Dante Fowler Jr there who will be edges essentially situational Edge rushers um so maybe you don't need Henry there but I I don't know I'm not on the I'm not out there on the field every day seeing who's getting the rep so I'm not a 100% sure um outside linebacker Fowler junor and Jamon Davis good for Jam Davis man can we take just half a second good for Jam Davis Jam he's adapted and he's going to make the team that's awesome yeah I mean and J Jamie Davis and Yami Brown are feel-good stories from the old administration at least so far we'll see what happens through the course of the Season yeah and particularly Davis who just was in such a bad situation with the last Administration and got scapegoated got dragged all over social media for him to keep his head down make the adjustment I'm rooting for the kid I'm I'm excited yeah that's happened the way that it's happened um middle linebacker obviously or just linebackers in general I think is going to be Bobby Wagner Jordan McGee uh Frankie louu and Anthony Pitman now pop did not have Jordan McGee as a part of the 53 because of the injury he's probably gonna be part of the ini 53 but he might go to IR I mean he's not he had knee surgery he's not going to be ready I don't think for the first four games so they'll probably you know have to keep them and then put them on IR would be my my guess right because I think if you go on R before the season starts you're out for the year exact I think they want to do that yeah so that's I think McGee is one of those where like they will keep him on the 53 and then maybe a guy like an undrafted guy we'll get to one of those later but maybe there's a guy that you can kind of sneak onto your practice squad while those windows go the way that they go and then you could slide that guy back in your 53 and put uh McGee on the IR they'll figure it out there's people smarter than us working at this so quarterback this is where things get a little bit weird is in the secondary you've got quarterback and you've got safeties so how many safeties are you going to keep and how many corners are you going to keep we right now have this lined up with six corners and five safeties so those six corners Are Mikey sandill Noah I Benjamin St juice Emanuel Forbes Jr Michael Davis Tariq Castro Fields those are the six and then the five safeties Jeremy chin Derek Forest Quan Martin Jeremy Reeves and Tyler Owens I would say out of those guys Reeves is a lock for special teams chin Martin both locks at safety Forest you wonder with Dominique Hampton I think that's the guy that's going to make the make the team yeah they just drafted him another notable roner Vera draft pick Percy Butler is a guy that's not in there you know they like the speed maybe they like what they can bring in special teams but it's it's questionable you don't know exactly one of the deepest groups right in terms of like decisions here I mean Jeremy Reeves you say he's a lock I know they love him on teams they they they paid him to come back uh he struggled a bit in terms of actually playing the position of safety at times fair but I think yeah or maybe it's a question of they love Tyler Owens I know he's an undrafted free agent but he's just looked great um that's probably going to be one of the toughest groups to decide yeah or maybe they they carry one last Corner Quan's a guy that can Flex in the corner yeah Jamie chin can get in there and play a little linebacker too right so there's some flexibility there that maybe gives you more flexibility to keep more safeties and one less Corner one less at some other position maybe defensive line yeah maybe you keep one less end maybe you keep one less tight end like there's excuse me there's different ways to do it um but I I think I think overall you look at a guy like Tariq Castro fields and you're like or no wor is it worth having a sixth Corner if the sixth corner is Castro fields or Noah I and you're choosing between Jeremy Reeves who you know is going to be great on specials and specials are going to be so different this year you need to have that you know that's these are considerations man is a guy like Tariq Castro Fields a guy that can sneak down onto your practice squad I think so I don't think anybody's that's a good point running out there to go get Tariq Castro fields and if they do there's probably about 12 Tariq Castro Fields out there on other n yeah and guys are going to be bouncing back and forth from the pro practice squad to the main roster and maybe through free agen all year long I mean you're going to see some of that churn right and uh so how about going through the specials real quick son yeah new kicker Cade York that's the big uh that's the big news of last week Johan doson was just the beline we did trade for Kade York um we traded a conditional seventh round pick so basically if he makes the 53 if he wins the kicking battle um got a couple of extra seventh round picks now yeah Lo loaded with seventh round picks uh and then we got tres way at punter of course Jayden Daniels Buzz and Tyler a at Long Snapper notice how we haven't said Tyler 's name at all that's what it should be with the Long Snapper guys we have no business knowing who Cameron Cheeseman is that's we're gonna do Full Long Snapper pop next week that's how they be so Pop I mean cheese I miss cheese you miss Chris BL it too his Personality yeah was a good guy he was a good guy um what do you say we wrap that up Pop I mean I think we get to 15 to 25 that 53 yeah had 30 was great you killed that son you killed that that was F that was a lot to get through but I thought you did great thank that was so of course yeah Pop I mean set me up for success with the spreadsheet here is breaking out his uh corporate knowledge see I don't I don't got that on the creative side he's got different colors and all the columns are I know spreadsheets D the Steph Curry of spreadsheets but guys you know what to do drop a comment hit the like button if you like the breakdown drop comments on what's going on with the 53 man roster who you think will make the team if you learn something new or you had fun hit the Subscribe button and let's get into this Jaden Daniels Vibe check pop what do you say let's do it let's do it so all in bold on my outline it says pop has a surprise tape I got a surprise take give the people your surprise take on Jaden Daniels listen up people we should thank Ron Rivera that's my surprise too because he blew it so bad that we got J everybody's complaining about Jan doson and his poor picks and the fact that he picked you know uh Chase instead of a quarterback we wouldn't have Jaden Daniels on the team we picked Chris a and some of these other great players we wouldn't had the number two pick in the draft and to be honest it was the perfect timing for Ron to be there and screw everything up because who knows if we have success as a team maybe something different happens with J Dan Snyder if the S fans are if the if the fans are coming out to the stadium maybe he gets a slap on the wrist instead of being gone thank Ron Rivera send him thank you cards he did us a favor to put us in this position have Jaden Daniels on our team stop killing the man he was the perfect coach for the perfect time incredible pop incredible and you know what I'm gonna add to that than Ryan Fitzpatrick because you know going on the water slide thank the water slide demon Ryan Fitzpatrick my buddy I ran into him at LAX he had his floaties on as he was going through security thank ryit Patrick because Ryan Fitzpatrick with the Miami Dolphins he missed an incompletion we would have got Joe burrow if he missed thank you Carson Wentz there you go that's incredible thank you William Jackson thei we can do this all day we'll be here till tomorrow but we would have had Joe burrow and I guarantee you pop we get Joe burrow we're making Super Bowl runs Danny boy is not selling the team so hurt but that's a good uh that's a good take that's a good take on that pop I like that that's funny um but where are we at with Jo with jayen Daniels because you know he's so far we love what we see personally inside of DC but nationally there's been a little bit of like up and down in terms of like this is just the time of the year where everybody feels like they need to make a hot take everybody feels like they need to have an opinion I mean we're here doing a podcast we feel that way too right but there's been a little bit of talk about hey Daniels is only throwing the ball really short he's only throwing these timing routes these hitch routes uh 1.91 seconds time to throw which would be an all-time NFL record I believe if he maintains that over the course of the Season which I have shocking news for you guys every NFL offense has five and seven step drops he will be taking five and seven step drops during the regular season and that number will go up a lot it's called the preseason we're trying to not get him hurt because we know what we have and know how good he is anyways 5.5 air yards per attempt the shortest in the NFL last season was 5.7 12 completions 15 pass attempts he did lead three scoring drives I'm not going to count that Miss field goal because that should be automatic if you have a good kick um so let's say he leads three scoring drives so pop what do you make of this is it time I mean there was a whole two-hour segment on sliding on the radio earlier this week want to hear your take on the slide sliding well what do you what do you make of this I I look he can only do what he's asked to do and anyone that knows football that's watching this knows that this was the game plan they didn't want to take risks with Jaden Daniel in the preseason they wanted to get him some snaps they wanted to get him running the offense they ran a little hurry up but this the game plan and I was I mean it never occurred to me any of that as I watched them play and I always kind of go with the eye test and I thought how he got the ball out of his hands was amazing and what's one of our major concerns the offensive line and if you're moving the ball and you're moving the chains who cares if there short passes and the threat that he gives you know running the ball and the read option and the freezing of the defense uh you know and the fact that he the way that he's placing the ball and you know these five and 10 yard sideline rounds are not not short throws that's a misnomer you know he's dropping back five seven yards and he's throwing the ball across the field a good 1520 those are the pick six balls if you don't have the right arm if you don't have the right accuracy you know so he's just running the offense that's in front of him because that's what's being called because they want to protect him now Cliff kingsberry who's also gotten a little criticism in this you know in this uh what seemed to have been the week to kind of tear jve Jaden Daniels down a little bit um which just seems how things work because he does run like to run that quick game he does like to run that short pass quick game you know who else does a lot of that Pat Mahomes right he does a lot of that too and they seemed pretty successful with with a couple of a few couple of three rings there so um yeah I just think it's you know yes it's pumping the brakes on Jaden Daniel's fever probably a prudent thing to do of course until we see him play in in the regular season I'm a little concerned about his weapons especially at receiver um you know um but you know he's doing what he's being asked to do and the short pass game has as much to do with them protecting him in the preseason you know they're and and and Kingsbury's come out and said they're not showing everything they're not showing their full offense the guy is known for being a heck of an accurate passer down the field we've seen it on the one pass to diami we've seen it on practice film after practice film after practice film he can throw the ball deep no doubt about it you know his pocket's presence in terms of his you know ability to feel the pocket feel the sack maybe not you know not get too happy and running too quick that remains to be seen I'll admit we haven't seen that yet in games and you're not gonna see that in practice right because you don't have to worry about getting hit but yeah I think I think it's funny you know that there's the now I think most of the reporting has been pretty positive it's not all going to be positive um and it shouldn't be but yeah I I feel like this whole all he's doing is throwing sideways or short passes is a little bit ridiculous he's doing what he's asked to do you want my take on that yeah if all he's doing is throwing short hitch routes and he's 12 for 15 and he leads three scoring drives that's winning football yep what's his job his job is to run the offense command the team and lead us to victory that is the quarterback's job if that's what he's being asked to do and that's what he's capable of who cares who cares I personally pop if we win 10 games next season and Jaden Daniels dinks it and dunks it for 250 yards a game and we have a great running attack our defense is solid and Daniels takes the throws when he needs to but it's nothing overly flashy and we win 10 games how do you feel how do you feel at the end of that year I love it I mean thrilled right it's the right way to co it's the right way to coach a rookie quarterback and that too and if he's getting his hands if he's getting the ball out of his hands in two seconds and we're running the ball effectively and we're moving the chains it's G to drive a defense nuts and guess what they're not going to be able to tee off and Rush him and that's when you hit the Deep ball on play action that's how this works yep and you are talking about 04 of a second in the difference here like where're these stats these analytics that's what annoys me is you can't sack a guy that's getting it out of his hands in two seconds that but that that's what annoys me about these analytics is like you look at 1.91 to 2.36 that's literally less than half a second it looks like a big difference when you look at it on a piece of paper but in practice that's literally the difference between a receiver taking four steps versus five steps on a hitch route or something like that you know these are small things and I get it that that level of precision is required to execute an offense but these are also like this is the flaw of the analytics age in my opinion is that you could put all these things you can put all these numbers together and create all these pseudo compelling arguments when at the end of the day the kid LED three scoring drives in his first three drives in the NFL in preseason did everything he was supposed to do hit his reads got through the reads his reads the way he was supposed to called a check has commanded the offense has commanded the Huddle is ahead of schedule by every possible metric not to mention the kid threw for 5,000 yards rushed for a, 40 touchdowns and three interceptions or whatever ludicrous number it was last year at LSU what are we doing guys what are we doing but it's like I said if the entire defense is focused on taking away the short game and the running game yeah they're not going to tee off on the rush and that's when you can th get the ball deep and they will throw it deep because he's too talented as a deep ball thrower you know they will and yeah you know dropback game I just think is overrated we did drop game last week year and how' that work out for us right I mean it's it's don't want to drop the guy back 5 seven with this offensive line repeatedly you want to make that you know like I said play action play you know things that that you're keeping the the defense off guard if you're getting the ball out of your hands in two seconds on the regular you know they're going to be focused on that I I think it's brilliant personally that's that's what pton Manning was doing when he was at his best Payton Manning was dicing up could Mo he get to the line and he knew exactly where the ball was going before he snapped the ball and he was making decisions super fast that's what Aaron Rogers we all know how crazy he was with his legs and getting outside the pocket Aaron Rogers is Bren and butter is being able the West Coast offense snap hitch throw that's how offense has been successful in the NFL for years and now we see because of all these Patrick Mahomes and the Josh Allen of the world who can run around in the back field and make a crazy throw 80 yards down the field defenses are starting to play two high shells and take that deep ball away Mahomes was a point guard last year Mahomes was dinking it Duncan down the field making the throws at the right times forcing the defense okay the defense has now defaulted to we're going to take the Deep ball away from you and force you to play a 12-play drive force you to make a 10 playay drive force you to stay patient and beat us if he capable of doing that that's the way the game is Shifting right now and the bigger point is they're not showing you their whole offense right now that's other point it's pre they're not showing it to you it's pre-season look look Dan Quinn freaked out because he audible to a deep pass and he freaked out because he didn't slide and I want to give you six 60 seconds on the clock but it's it's obviously that they want to protect the kid and that in preseason and that's what they're doing and honestly if they carry a bit of that over into the regular season you know and wanted to kind of slowly build up and have that success I got no problem with it so it's you know that's the last thing I got to say on it but I do want to hear 60 seconds on the clock Dominic's take on slide gate with Jaden Dan all right so 60 seconds on the clock slide gate starting now this is the dumbest dialogue we have ever had in DC a city known for dumb Sports dialogues about irrelevant stupid things Not Just Sports yeah oh well the best with the best city in the world at dumb dialogue and this is this is one of the dumbest Sports dialogues we've had in this town I think it's so stupid I mean Brian Mitchell said it best I'm not going to I won't say his age but he said I'm x amount of years old and I could get off of this desk run and slide right now it's an intuitive athletic thing I mean pop do you think you could slide in a home plate right now if you were play I'm not sure I want to be honest without like busting an Achilles or something I'm not sure you could do it would it be a reckless decision maybe but you could physically do it it's a basic athletic thing the guy slid at Arizona State he lit at LSU it's more fun to show the Looney Tunes hits that he took on Twitter I'll give you guys that that's a lot more fun to see but I it's just that you know what if you want to have this discussion after week three at the Bengals and he's taken 12 big collisions I'm ready to have that talk I'm ready until then when he's had one Rush attempt in the preseason that didn't end in the end zone and it was a 13 yard gain by the way that looked easy it looked like it was an automatic 13 yard G yeah and he got caught from behind these things are going to happen you drafted a mobile quarterback you drafted a guy who rushed for over a thousand yards last year and won the Heisman Trophy he's gonna get hit that might have been more he was asked about practicing sliding and he said he hasn't so that kind of also sparked I agree with everything you said who cares why should he practice he's gonna get hurt practicing sliding why should he practice sliding like that's dumb he does have to protect himself but he's got to be a baller too if anything I worry a little bit about them you know Dan Quinn over emphasizing that I mean he's gota play he's just gotta play and yeah he's got to be smart but hopefully it's it's that quick game it's the fact that he's so fast it's the fact that defense is going to be caught off guard that he's not going to be taking a bunch of hits and let's just hope for that yeah yeah I mean he yeah I agree does have to do a better job of protecting himself in the open field that's something you hope he can grow into um but we've given slide gate plenty of time what do you say we move on to the next segment pop yeah just a real quick I thought we could do just a super quick check in on the other rookie quarterbacks see where where folks are at we're not going to do a a big breakdown we've done that before yeah but I thought it might be fun every time we talk Jaden just to talk about you know the other rookies how they're doing other rookie first rounders so see this quick Caleb Williams going pretty much exactly how you would expect the Caleb Williams thing to go so far some crazy highlights some freakish Talent uh named starter in Chicago all those off the- field things seem to have evaporated as I told you they would months ago go back check the tape stupid stories people are bored because this guy's the most guaranteed draft prospect that we've had in the last couple decades Drake May has shown flashes as well still battling with jacobe brassette it sounds like the Milton thing is starting to fade there I think people are starting to be like guys come on we know why we took May at number three and may is an incredible talent I I I'm still behind that um JJ McCarthy out for the season with that knee injury you hate to see that that sucks he was looking pretty good yeah he was starting to put it together in Minnesota obviously you got KOC there great coach understands quarterbacks um still a good fit but who knows maybe this is a blessing in disguise he gets to watch for the year and really be ready to hit it ground running next year um so Sam darnold will be the starter which impacts me because I'm thinking about drafting Justin Jefferson in fantasy football I really gotta have a think about that um B Knicks name the starter in Denver Bon knes look good man yeah B Nies look good it's interesting uh and Michel Michael penck obviously going to be starting off sitting behind Kirk Cousins it seems like Kirk is on Pace for week one right pop yeah but but what was interesting about penx is he didn't play in the last preseason game that raised a lot of eyebrows like you know not only did Kirk KN play penx didn't play so yeah what are they doing everyone's kind of wondering what what the heck's going on there like be sitting behind Kirk why wouldn't you play him I think that's smart I think that's smart I think if there's some kind of setback with Kirk or if whatever you want to make sure penx is healthy I don't think we should start Mariota I don't think Mariota should play what about your boy Taylor yeah backup yeah you let hinaki do it well obviously hin is not the plan obviously heiki is not the plan down there at Atlanta come on now come on now uh but yeah obviously that's the that's the checkin on you want the t h debate go back three or four pods we we already did that never forget what he did for this video all right should we wrap this thing up up we should that was a good one all right yeah it's been a lot of fun guys if you've enjoyed it don't forget like comment subscribe drop in the comments what you want to see us talk about next we will definitely talk about it in prepro maybe get to it and uh I mean next week we're gonna have to do schedule predictions and then it's uh B away right crazy easy be here before we know here before we know it it'll be over before we know it so strap in get on the D pop ship while you can subscribe headed to the Moon let's wrap this thing up without further Ado I've been Dom this is Pop and thanks
