Bo Nix EARNS Starting Job Over Jarrett Stidham, Zach Wilson

Brie Maus Joey Richards the time has come Broncos Country finally we received the word the official word that b Nicks will be the first rookie since John Elway to start H as a rookie and we knew it was coming uh at least we highly anticipated it we probably would have put some money on this decision coming forward but Joey your whole thing coming into this was it's basically official he just has to earn it and that's what we heard from Shawn Payton and basically the consensus here is that you want to make sure he's ready uh before really solidifying that vote but he sure looks like it through two preseason games I don't believe we'll see B knck in the third preseason game maybe maybe a couple of snaps here or there but we haven't received official word yet at least that I'm aware of Joey um we knew it was basically that time the bonix era but what was your initial reaction to getting that news this morning um my initial reaction was like yeah like this has been the worst kept secret in the entire NFL like I I I really do think it was if you heard there's been times Bri where um I mean Sean especially with the Shawn pton with the especially with the local media is so dry like it's all the way coach talk right but there's been moments where you can tell he just can't help it there has been immediately after the draft being like I haven't felt this way since p pck Mahomes people haven't thought about that since he said it that was like a big deal when he said that like whoa he loves this guy and then we also I mean I think most of my audience and if you haven't please go watch um please go watch Chase Daniel uh interview with um Sean he gonna help how much he loves bow and that there's been specific times throughout this process where he's let us know like hey bonick is my guy he's my guy um so yeah I I don't I think it's been the worst C kept secret I pretty much just think it's what you said Bri the Broncos just want him to work and feel like he earned the job that's what this quarterback competition was it wasn't really a competition it was what Sean said today nothing's earned in the NFL and we're not going to start your NFL career making you feel like or nothing nothing's given in that NFL and uh we're not going to start your NFL career with it feeling like this was given to you that's not how we're going to start it no you're going to have to go out there and work like you earned it and that's what they did we're gonna put on um the whole quarterback competition it really wasn't a competition though I don't think I think as long as Bo Knicks looked okay or good or fine as long as he didn't look like a dumpster fire he was going to win this job the dumpster fire is uh an accurate depiction um I guess if he didn't look like Paxton Lynch then everyone's uh feelings were protected and all that but you're right you do your due diligence uh you go with Jared stum and a Zach Wilson and then a bone Nicks and then you have to figure that word that room out um was really interesting to kind of see that play out in the anticipation that it wasn't necessarily a competition but it was it exciting and there's a a sense of that in Broncos country where okay maybe you know it was to be expected but the fuel has been lit I think from a different Source um than where it was with the anticipation of Russell Wilson or in the past with different quarterbacks who have kind of been the stop Gap since pton Manning um this feels a lot different and I think that's that that goes to show um kind of what the expectation is from Broncos country for the rookie quarterback because it is kind of a brand new we understand there's going to be growing pains and he's done well with what sha Payton has uh you know afforded to him and it opens up new possibilities in the offense that we weren't able to see the last two years where sha really had to change the expectation of protect your quarterback make sure he's not a huge uh uh prospect on what you're trying to do with the offense and and and and shuttle out a a good enough defense where you try to win some games and they won some games and they beat the Kansas City Chiefs what you're trying to do now is not necessarily capitalize off of the success of last season and success being on a spectrum I think what you're looking at now is the opportunity to see what bonix is made of and then look forward to like the next couple of seasons and developing this quarterback regardless how many snaps he's taken in college the NFL and the NFL speed and the NFL Beast is completely different and so um brco country if you're listening uh meter your expectations be excited be a fan however you're going to do so just know you know this is this is a brand new era it's going to take some um some working together but what I'm really excited about is the defense being able to keep their quarterback out of trouble I don't think we're going to see a whole lot of regression there I think B's going to have an opportunity to succeed we'll see how that offensive line Works um we'll see how the receivers pan out I know we're going to do a little bit of a a a a roster projection but those the cutdown date is approaching quickly so just want to be mindful of all of that but it begs the question and King Rays beat me to it um do you think Zack Wilson makes the roster well do we know if Jarrett SDM does I know Shawn Payton uh specifically you know chose Zach Wilson not only because he was available at the kind of price point that he was but there's a reason Zach Wilson was drafted number two overall he's he's got some really flashy and fun moments do I ever think he was anticipated as the starter well for a moment there prior to drafting B Knicks there was a time in which we all thought Zach Wilson was the future of the Broncos I think that you've seen a remarkable ability for Zach Wilson to have some freedom to grow they almost are sliding him in there as a closer and saying Zach go out there have some fun show us what you have and if he gets a year two of development with Shawn Payton that's going to be remarkable for what his career trajectory is in the NFL um I know there's lot of questions right now whether he's starting a caliber but I think with um a little bit of time and a little bit more development in the right space it could be worthwhile for Zach Wilson my prediction is all three quarterbacks uh make the roster um I think that that's kind of what you need to see and it's your contingency plan as well um knock on wood I don't have any near me that bonic is able to stay relatively healthy but things happen in the NFL and they happen quickly um so I I think they keep all three um initially I I wasn't so sure of that but it it just feels like that's the direction they're going to go in Joey um do you think Zack Wilson makes the roster to King Ray's question yeah I do I'm right in line with you I think all three of these guys make the roster I think there's an interesting question in here built into this one where it's let's say B Knicks isn't the um was never drafted by the Broncos right I think there's an interesting question here who would be the starter and I don't necessarily think that's your immediate backup I don't I think the job of a backup quarterback your direct backup quarterback and then who would be the starter who who would I want to go the duration of a season would be a little different I think those are two different answers there I think that if um let's say the Broncos don't draft Bon knck I think Zack Wilson would probably be your slated starter week one for the Broncos I do I really do uh but who do I want as my backup quarterback it's going to be Jarrett stum I just value the uh the ability to play call calm cool and collected in that whereas through a season I would want the more exciting do we have something here guy um and and another point I want to make is I thought it was really telling when I think it was during the Chase Daniel interview uh when Shawn Payton told him like I went up to Zach Wilson and told him straight up my job here is to make you Millions down the road this is going to be the place where you come and another team is going to give you a shot because you were here right that that was that was what Shawn Peyton said and it kind of just tells you his thoughts on this quarterback room he said it today he said today was Zach Wilson's best practice um of the year he said he was was on a heater is what he said so I I I think he does like Zack Wilson I think he's going to hold his word to his players I think it opens up a different view of Shawn pyton as well and how he treats his players uh I a little bit sometimes we just see him in local media all the time he clearly doesn't like the local media he was cracking on him today bre and uh was saying that his goal at the beginning of the year was to build AIT relationship with local media but that clearly so he's clearly aware I thought you were GNA when you went to go say better I thought you were going to say barrier and I was like Ah that's that's done and over with so that's hilarious I think yeah his AB Gotta Laugh out of everybody it Gotta Laugh out of everybody because they were asking him why uh or how he announced who the starter was to the team and he said my my goal here was to at the beginning of the year was to build a better relationship with the local media so you guys are the first people I've told other than the quarterbacks and it got a good laugh out of everybody there at the presser but no yeah I I I think all three are going to make it at the end of the day and I think all three of them make it for different reasons I think if Zach Wilson was more in the line of another Jarrett stum he you would probably only be keeping two and I think that if Jarrett SD was more in line similar to a Zach Wilson type player who were trying to um you know recreate their NFL career and make it better uh you probably would only keep one as well I I just think they're so contrast of each other you're probably keeping all three uh I think they all hold different values to this team yeah and that's just kind of what I think I think all three make it and and Zach Wilson is definitely definitely making this roster in my opinion I could also see there being implications as far as the financial concerns go and I was hearing that Zach Wilson would actually be the more cost effective keep there but I don't think the Broncos are hurting on either side of a couple million dollar um for uh either quarterback I I'm going to say three do and and honestly I would just be shocked if it turns out any other way which means that it's a solid quarterback room and I think they've all been working well uh together and under the tutelage of Davis web um I I'm ultimately just offended by this comment in general um it makes me want to give this user a timeout give me Joe flacko um never again we go down that route and listen I understand he was on a heater of his own last season I don't want it and I do not subscribe to it it's Blast for me in my eyes uh if you're just now joining we're talking about uh B Nicks being named the starter for the Denver Broncos and I can be yeah I have a question for you if you don't mind you don't mind me you just just ruin my ability to drive the show Joey ask away that's what I do yeah that's that's my bag here on let's talk Broncos it's ruined who's driving the show anyways how do you feel Bri um I this came to me in the in the moment I was interested by it usually I'm I am uh used to seeing or hearing quarterback or coaches make an announcement to the entire roster on who's starting at quarterback especially when there's a quarterback competition when sha Payne went up there today someone asked him how how did you make this announcement to the team he said I didn't make an announcement to the team I just told the quarterbacks individually nobody else is getting an announcement for their starting job why would I do that with the quarterbacks how do you feel about that do you feel like you should go up in a meeting room and let the players know who the quarterback is this year or do you or are you okay with them hearing it through via the press conference um and is reasoning why you know that's such a weird thing because when I heard that that little snippet Today part of me was like is this a joke is he bidding like he's really Shawn Payton's a a strange bird in the best of ways where I can say wow he really does things intentionally like there's a reason like he nothing he ever says is kind of like a slip of the tongue right so when I heard that I was I thought it was a joke especially because he led with the I thought I'd tell you guys first and and I didn't know then I was like okay that was the joke bit of it so I think it's it's just two schools of thought and when you put him under the certain coaching tree you go okay yeah I could see the entirety of those coaches kind of pulling the same maneuver we're not announcing everyone else's starting position in front of the team it's sort of just another day on the job and each guy's been told individually um I couldn't say that that's how I would have expected it to go down also because so many of these players jobs revolve around that partnership and and that trust with their quarterback it just felt more momentous than to just blow it off like a why would I but I think if I change my lens and where I look at Shawn Payton from because I think sometimes it can be intrinsically kind of negative um that I would say okay I agree with him there where he did that because of the type of Coach he is and how he handles his business but it was shocking to me I I'm not going to lie like I'm not going to weigh in on it and be like yeah totally I to see why that was the thing like your team now has a starting quarterback which is very much so the captain of the ship um and you're just not going to tell anybody maybe he did too like at the end of the day I don't know we haven't taxed guys yeah maybe maybe he's just telling crazy so people write articles about it and talk about it on their podcast and then he has another reason to point his finger and laugh at Denver media because at the end of the day it just yeah the dep chart exactly like the depart s like is he Consulting people for that did he just like throw that out there on a whim like there's part of me where it's like I don't know what's your game old man like where did you come up with that idea um but I also am not I'm not that's how teams typically do it I just know there's a big meeting room where everyone goes into when you have your team meetings and everyone's sitting there it would feel like the prime opportunity to have that conversation with everyone but then I think about it in the act like you've been there before realm you don't have to go around telling everyone you've assigned a starting quarterback like it's business as usual so um I'm you know me it's terrible when you ask me questions because I'm GNA look at it from 18,000 different views and then be like ultimately I don't know I probably wouldn't have done that way but maybe he's on to something um I'm usually like that's a weird thing to do Sean Payton so at least it didn't throw me for that Loop um do you think it was interesting though I if you didn't announce it like what does it tell you like what is it telling you or what is it telling other people if you make that public knowledge so here's what I think about Bri I I'll tell you right away I when I heard it I was kind of like whoa that's unusual that's what I that was my first thought was like whoa that's unusual but and then he started getting into the reasoning and it stuck out to me that he mentioned no nobody else getss an announcement to the entire team when they win their starting job and I was like I mean it's true that is absolutely true when the Broncos name their second cornerback they're not going to go in front of a big meeting room and be like big congratulations Riley Moss Man are are starting Corner everybody rally around like that's not what's going to happen it's only important because we all know the importance of the quarterback position right um yeah this is true Sean Peyton basically said the rest of the team can find out from Twitter yeah facts I'm sure they were like shocked when they they got home and they're like wait even though they probably already knew um just I if I knew at home they the team knew right like if you if I'm talking about has been the worst kept secret in the NFL the the players a part of the team probably already knew but um I I that part is kind of weird uh that part is weird but I think it's true and I think what the idea is because I know Sean is speaking to his quarterbacks and to his team through the pressers it's a different way to speak to your team and that's how good coaches use local media if I'm being honest uh they're they're using them and they're speaking to their players via the local media things I'm not going to say to our face for one reason or another I'm going to go talk to the local media and they're going to hear it through that um and what the idea is is like yeah bonick are a starting quarterback but he's not any more important than any of you that's the sentiment I got and the reasoning why I think he did it that way um he's another player and I'm G to treat every player on this team the same way that's that's why he did it in my opinion um in that way I I think it's unusual I think it's weird but I get the idea behind it I do and the more that you speak on it I think I can see exactly where that's coming from and I I think I respect the notion time will tell though if it was the right decision um but it's not to say that Shawn pyton didn't get his guy uh hasn't done the due diligence and then hasn't made a decision so the Sha Payton bonck era is on well on its way um King Ray says that's a cool cat uh the meow meow meow uh that cat has ended the Broncos QB curse that cat is Lucifer uh she decides whenever she wants to join the show and it's usually as soon as I start talking she hates it and she's got to come up here and tell me that it's none of my business um Joey with the the regular season just around the corner right um early September is going to be here before we know it the AFC West is kind of back on our minds and topheavy and I'm sure we'll do uh a show specifically about what I'm going to ask you next but I kind of want to get feelers on this situation now right we know who the quarterback's going to be we have a pretty good idea of how the roster is going to shake out there may be some surprises there may be a pickup who's to say that 52 of the present roster aren't kept and there's one free agent out there who gets cut off another team that the Broncos feel like they can bring on or bring back um in general kind of the the over under for each team is really interesting here and they're released really early you got a five and a half for the Denver Broncos you have a six and a half for the Las Vegas Raiders you have eight and a half for the Chargers and 11 and a half for the Kansas City Chiefs I don't want you to pick overs and unders here I want to say do you think the Denver Broncos okay we'll do that next do you think the Denver Broncos are underrated and undervalued or do you think they're overvalued because at this rate a five and a half feels low and I'm not saying that I'm necessarily over over the par on that course but to be under a team like the Las Vegas Raiders who don't get me wrong their defensive line amazing but the secondary linebackers their offense Gardner mshu is it really enough to equal one whole game better than the Denver Broncos then you've got the Chargers who are ever presently in a dumpster fire of proportions whether it be injuries or the inability to get Justin Herbert there um the Chargers is an eight and a half oh my God okay I I I gotta say this I'm going over on Chiefs I'm just going to go out there and do it why the hell not I'm podcasting right now I'm going over on Chiefs the Chiefs are damn good Bri um I think their wide receiver room is going to be better than it was last year uh I think like rashy rice while he should have been suspended got get out that out there I I I do think he probably takes another step forward as a player last year was he was a rookie this year he's going to a sophomore year as that team's best player uh or best wide receiver uh I think I think uh oh my gosh I'm blanking on his name the wide received from Texas fast as hell Xavier worthy that's who I'm thinking of he's going to be big for that team uh I think Hollywood Brown would have of course he's hurt I'm still going over on the Chiefs this got Andy Reed Travis Kelsey Patrick Mahomes come on now right over 11 um the Chargers over 11 and a half yeah so it have to be 12 so yeah the charges are an eight and a halfon says I don't get that line at all their defense is horrible their whole operation is is is uh confusing so I that's really high as well I think I think we're in the the realm of like Chargers Raiders Broncos are all kind of like toppling each other for the second in the west again but I that Line's weird to me I I'm totally in agreeance with you I think their offensive lines going to be better although joal has been kind of up and down in the preseason their first- round pick who the number one tackle taken in this loaded uh line class so Jo's gonna end up being fine just noteworthy though right um Rashad Slater is gonna be awesome Zion Johnson's gonna be awesome they have a good offensive line and then you start looking at just like wide receivers like lad makoni DJ CH Josh Palmer man I like hey better to you Jim harbar I'm a huge fan of Jim Harbaugh I just don't think it's this year man I don't think it's this year I think this is a work in progress right here and you're seeing that with the roster it's just like kind of screw the wide receivers right now you know that that's going to come later that's not this year that's going to be another year from now their defense isn't good like like De Bron was saying I I I totally disagree with this line I'm going under on Chargers big time um huge that that might be one of the things I feel best about and people are going to clip this and make me sound crazy when they wion a lot of games but like I said ear you did this to yourself yeah you did this to yourself and then the Raiders got gner mju and stuff I don't know like I is and then Antonio Pierce are we really all that sold on Pierce now all of a sudden he had a good run last year would this be the first time I've seen a coach step in mid year and all of a sudden that team has a ton more energy still not head coach material though a lot of the time I don't know like why why do I feel so comfortable with these other teams I don't I I would take my money on uh Shawn Peyton who had us in like a those little playoff cards that pulled up those Graphics that pulled up on the TV they had last year's Broncos and those for the majority of the Season like I don't know I I'm I I think it's a race for the second seed in this uh in this Division I I don't think it's cut clear that the Broncos are second I don't I just think the bottom three teams have a better chance of not being that great I'm being honest with you all of them yeah yeah and I think it will be it'll be kind of tops of Turvy and it'll be kind of a race and one team pulls ahead and then the other team pulls ahead and I think that's just the nature of the AFC West right now um the Aiden oconnell raser I'm sorry it's happening but I don't have a whole lot of faith that they go in a different direction I think Gardner muu is all about The Vibes there in Las Vegas right now and I don't I don't want to undercut what I think Antonio Pierce has been able to do with this opportunity I think with a different team maybe um it looks different but uh I don't know the amount of cultural shift to have all these players really buy into what you're selling is important uh across the board and how you go about that is different for each coach right and it's a it's really a stark contrast there of what Antonio Pierce is doing with um his team and kind of not building it right he's he's inheriting it and it'll be interesting to see what the Raiders are able to do that is not a positive turn of events for me I'm not necessarily wishing them well but um I don't know who's to say the Broncos can't win more games than the Raiders or the Chargers because all of the teams are in a very unknown uh Avenue I do however I want to point back to what I said when I started the show the best opportunity around Bo Nick right now is keeping him safe rolling off of what they built already with the defense and Shoring that up some and I don't I just I I could see the Broncos having a ton of time and possession um but the defense doing their job so that he's not out there all of the time trying to bail himself out and Shawn pton putting him into uh the best possible circumstances to I have relative optimism I don't think it existed prior to seeing kind of what direction the Broncos were going to go in and I think it's going to take a couple of years to really get this thing under pack but I do think you could see a relatively successful season and today's announcement is really more about just buying into what your stance is going to be on this team and it changes so be fluid with your takes if the I just want to preface that we'll be very mindful of our um we always are we never try to get up that roller coaster too quickly uh the first quarter of the Season those first four games let's take them in stride see what happens uh and hopefully uh it's not a long drought before the Bronco start seeing some wins under their belt yeah no I mean I I agree Bri and the I mean I I I feel like while I'm on here I'm gonna make a little bit of a bold prediction I think Devonte Adams has a better chance of being off the Raiders than they do with making the playoffs this next year that's I I think Devonte Adams has a better chance of being traded by week eight asking his way out than than it is that the Raiders make the playoffs this next year if I'm being honest with you that's how I feel about this Raiders team I God those lines are ridiculous to me I don't understand it I don't know maybe I'm just uh in a biased worldwi I just don't understand it but I I don't get it I'm going to give Chiefs all their props hey we're up in that 11 and a half or whatever you said Bri they're getting at least 12 other teams man it's ridiculous um I I do think you nailed it with the uh with the stuff about the Broncos like especially the cautious optimism that's something I think that's important to hit on bri I think it's exactly where Broncos Country should be right now this team is a win of a season in my mind no matter what the record is if B ni goes out there and looks like a competent quarterback right and now while we don't have all the the box is checked on if he's a competent quarterback so far through two preseason games not a lot has been asked of him he's been playing against the TW all that stuff needs to be said but what has been thrown in front of him he's answered correctly he he's done the right thing so I think it's absolutely fine to be um cautiously optimistic right now I think that's where most of Broncos Country should be and yeah I don't know that's just how I feel about bonick and the Broncos right now Joe you started it now I'm going to end it uh not the show because we're podcasting and you tweeted out something earlier today about okay bonix is is slotted as your number one quarterback that was a major concern for most of Broncos Country coming into this season now that that is uh good to go basically what you asked Broncos Country what's your biggest concern going into this season now um did you go into that with an idea of your own where your concerns lied because I didn't answer the question sorry that's my bad I've been a little distracted but uh I'm I'm sorry but I'm not uh to get some engagement I know I I get that and and I see something I'm like that person who sees a text come through and I'm like okay I'll get back to that but my anxiety's too high and then like three days pass and now I'm anxious about taking too much time and you'll never hear from me again so um you you asked about concerns right so I want to answer concerns um please do it's it's kind of shifted a little bit but I I think that I have maybe some concerns still about not the line in general you know I've talked to some experts about what it really means to be a starting center in the league and what those responsibilities are and I I was pretty concerned about not really knowing what you have with foresight and wattenberg and muster and then seeing it during training camp and having kind of like well one individual brings this the other kind of makes me questions question that uh did you have a lot of people submit kind of the center as a as a concern going into this year or is everyone kind of feeling a little bit more comfortable uh with a Luke wattenberg going out there being able to hold his own um and and and really uh hoping that it's the best fit possible with keeping bonck safe I'll be honest with you Bri you know you know me I've been tweeting talking about offensive line since we've been doing this show for I think it's been a little over two years now right um I just don't think people care about offensive line I'm gonna be honest with you it's a sad day it's not it's not good dare they but whenever I talk about the offensive line all of a sudden nobody wants to hear about it anymore no nobody says Center I don't think I didn't see one Center I see what happens online is people often defensive line is just one big position we're evaluating the whole group is one the players who are a part of it do not matter we don't care about that at all no one said Center what they said was the backup offensive lineman that's what they said so all um that that was that's fair no I have concerns right Quin Bailey going down opens up a big old question mark of how many they keep I think they keep nine thank you very much but would have been nice to have Quinn Bailey there Good Old Reliable and now you don't have that I'm concerned about the backup lineman I'm concerned about what's happening on the defensive line so Joey that's what I have because you want to make sure your offensive line is strong enough to in institutionalize success in your offense because if there's not strength there and there's not some real you know powerful mfers on that line yeah your offense isn't doing anything so let me just say I got I I'm not I don't have concerns I just want to make sure that's not a relative concern uh sounds like Broncos Country just thinks if you throw the ball down the field that you're winning and so but also the dline you front seven like are there concerns there where where did the concerns come from what was the most interesting one that got thrown out to you do you recall you don't read replies you just m the no I I read all of them there were a bunch of interesting ones I can immediately tell your age if you say past coverage linebacker I need to throw that out there about an hour again I could tell I was reaching Boomer Twitter it was crazy but [Applause] uh I have to do that out there I absolutely do anyways there were a lot of interesting stuff I thought the I I I personally think the best answer is just the secondary just generally the secondary other than passor tan I mean I I feel good about PJ lock in run support um yeah that's all that's how I feel about the secondary if I'm being honest with you that's how I feel about it I think there's intriguing players I even think uh Jones who they signed from uh I you think Jones who they signed from the Dolphins like I'm not all the way sold on he was cool as a dolphin he was good but he did have his warts too especially uh he had lapses and coverage every once in a while he made a lot of big plays but he had lapses in coverage uh and then also his angles coming down in run support were a little crazy to me sometimes and then I mean key no one's talking about key is starting at safety right now like that's something no one's talking about no one even knows anything about it people if I if I asked Broncos country where did he go to college or whatever people would be on their phone looking that up so fast like I don't even know like I cover the team like I swear if this was any other year we'd have more concern over who's starting at safety right now um and then Riley Moss he shown me good and he's also shown me bad so I he intrigues me he makes me really uh he he's promising and uh a lot of stuff like that but man he did get beat last week people forget that he got beat last week deep and I think the little s he did after the play kind of threw us off like man maybe he did do something good there no no no he got beat on that one guys um and yeah we're gonna have to see with him I'm intrigued by him but do I know what I'm going to get I don't I don't it's going to be all right we're week four week five until I finally have a solid answer on how Riley Moss looks as a NFL player probably we got Western Kentucky as the answer in the chat for Devin key thank you so much for Googling that for us if I do it my Wii will go out on by the way I know he played just information on him by the way I know he played for the CH uh for the Chiefs um and was kind of a practice squad guy down there and he uh you know about the Chiefs the Chiefs keep pumping out good DBS so maybe that's promising he also has really good uh I'm going to look it up real quick so I can bring it to you guys he he's he's an athletic guy and he has a lot of college experience as well um I'm gonna Vamp while you do that Joey uh the you brought up the question the secondary listen the the team of the Denver Broncos um oh my gosh thank you for bringing it up Rees Taylor he's been the training camp darling I've been absolutely obsessed watching him out there they're just breaking up plays uh really actually uh uh kind of exploding plays like coming out of nowhere that's what you want to see out of your defensive backs that's the kind of attitude that you want to see you don't and it's also really splashy plays uh which are fun to watch and I I love the defense that's my first love I love watching safeties and CBS go out there and tear stuff up and so it's not always about good coverage and Joey I'm glad we brought that up about Riley Moss cuz that play I was like no no don't sell no don't sell it because it was like that pass wasn't catchable and if it was you were toasted but again that that's that's the absolute downtrend of a cornerbacks responsibility because you're going to have those instances where it looks really bad when you get burnt but it's how like you have to have that cornerback Amnesia because it's the next play and they're coming right back at you and it's whether or not you're able to one be a ball Hawk uh and two there's the question of of uh is it a consistent issue it's not always going to be tightline coverage where you don't get a pass interference flag sometimes it's going to be loud shocking mistakes where everyone then picks it apart for weeks to come and I think Riley Moss is a better player than that but that was a loud one that we then have to take into consideration but what about the times where he's affected the plays where the quarterback can't throw into coverage because he's reading the playright so I just want to throw that out there that I'm not majorly concerned about the secondary but it's gone to a point where we no longer have that like star studded roster like I think Broncos country has a tendency to forget how uh spoiled we were with the opportunities at the no fly zone and then almost the no fly zone too right where you had these amazing DBS who were able to go out there and make such high impact plays and now those names are being recreated right you've got a PJ lock you have a Devon key who are trying to really make a name for themselves keyron Smith as king Rays brought up um so just wanted to throw that out there because I don't think that the defense in itself is really a concern to me but there are a lot of opportunities for some young guys to come in and really start building themselves up in this system and and and as long as the Denver Broncos have a good defense uh across the board solid maybe not star powerered but you have a Patrick ceran For the Love of Christ I think everyone else kind of gets a pass because he's now a household name um and shouts out to Justin Simmons on the Falcons it still doesn't feel right I know you're looking something up uh what do you got for me on Devon key uh I just wanted to say Al so he was a 453 guy at his pro day with a 38 inch vertical so definitely an athletic um safety there for the Broncos and hopefully somebody that can go in there and produce and breed to your to your point on you know I I I I just think Broncos Country maybe a little bit sometimes uh I mean it's just kind of worked out for them on defense so many times if you go back to our uh all the way back to Super Bowl 50 our defensive coordinators here have been nuts they've been really like we've had such a good run of damn good defensive coordinators to the point where it's like yo I think some people just think it's gonna work out we got Wade Phillips Joe Woods Vic vanio like Wade Phillips Vic vanio and their points in time their peaks they're considered maybe the best defensive mind in football at that time um all the way to Evo right so now we're dealing with Vance Joseph we're going to evaluate him see how he looks as a defensive coordinator but is he that ilk is he Vic fangio is he Wade Phillips man I don't know like I don't I don't I don't know if he's that that great and I mean with Vic fangio who remembers that part where bosby just came in Devon bosby came in like mid year because of injuries and it just looked good like I thought Devonte bosby could maybe be a player well where is bosby now no like a lot of this is the defensive schemes the coordinators putting players in great positions and just being great at their job um and hiding hiding certain issues with the team it'll be interesting to see if that's the case this year uh I I I don't think it's going to be as easy to hide so you really just gotta hope Riley Moss is an actual player uh I got to play the buzzer because not because you're wrong or anything but there is a rule talk Broncos podcast that every time Joey goes into toic when the Broncos head to Seattle but he asks are you guys worried about Seahawks defense tearing bow up playing in Seattle already hard let alone the dline with Murphy in that tough Corner Room listen I'm concerned about the Denver Broncos going into the start of this season in general am I afraid of the Seahawks winning not necessarily do I think Joo Smith has what it takes to pull it off maybe possibly it's going to be a close game and you're right the defenses for both teams are going to play a very important role on who wins this game but do I think that he's going to te tear B Knicks up no my general thought is it's going to be a pretty successful day for B knck if he's able to go out there and do what Shawn Payton asks him to do and I think he's going to have to be a student in the game in that regard that if he needs to get rid of the ball fast or if he needs to run the ball more that's what it's going to take to get the game one uh but Joey give me a feeler here does bon knck get torn up by the Seattle defense or is that blocking and protecting I know that's I got that's why I have to ask it that way right I don't think so I don't think he's gonna get torn up but I've seen some cornerbacks in the league um in their rookie year uh get run around in circles but veterans run away and get torn up but I don't think he's going to be running into sacks I don't know this feels like a Seahawks question 626 to it to his point Bri I have to say m Mike McDaniel the Donald is ridiculously good defensive mind maybe the brightest defensive mind in the sport right now um what he did against those Shanahan guys last year was unbelievable it it really is unbelievable what he did against them I and I think it's a great hire by Seattle this is a tough game for Bo it it is I'm not gonna lie to you I was just laughing at the torn up of it all but like I totally agree I I mean at the end of the day it might not look pretty in week one guys I just don't want people to freak out this is going to be a rookie quarterback in this first NFL game I'm willing to you know go through the tough time probably here the Broncos have a lot of tough opponents to start the season if I'm being honest with you it's not an easy start of season for Bo in the Broncos offense um I hope Sean's able to get some layups off that that's what I want to see I want to see some layups I want to see this make this happen for Bo make it easy on him if you can uh more than I want to see the wins and losses I want to see Bo at least get some confidence behind him and hopefully he's playing well because uh it is tough and you don't want to see your quarterback really struggle early on and maybe beat themselves up over confidence I think that type of stuff matters um I it just does like the confidence in your own abilities matters as an NFL player that's what drove him here a lot of the time you're you're kind of a crazy man if you actually believe you're G to be an NFL player I think you kind of got to be crazy to get to this point that bonick and the rest of his teammates are in uh and when the moment that goes away you probably tumble a little bit so yeah it isn't easy early it isn't it isn't at all I don't want to Discount that it's on Sean to make it as easy as possible for him this is more of a Shawn test to see how he can work around his rookie quarterback and make it as easy as possible against a Mike McDonald defense then it is a bon Knicks test for me if I'm being honest I like the point and I think that's what Atomic 626 was getting at uh there's there's an absolute um I don't know it's a little scary out there and yeah I do think that it will be a challenge um I think it be test test to yeah shout out for uh for the question um I think that I think I don't know it's a good question um I'll it is dive into it deeper we'll cover it and and we like that you guys continue to have this conversation with us we don't exist without the community and we don't exist without you guys listening to us asking us these questions I guess we could just talk to each other but it would lose the emphasis on let's talk Broncos because at the at the end of the day I'm not really Bros yeah just like we sit and watch us we talk Broncos and it's a relatively okay show but like you don't get to attend and the third co-host doesn't get to drop into the chat whenever he freaking feels like it I almost cursed I'm trying so hard not to like do that so often anymore and that's terribly difficult for me uh Mr rocket said I'm not on the bow hype train yet but if he's able to go to Seattle in that environment against that defense and look good and whenn the Bose hype is going to Skyrocket Mr rocket I will take it uh just a little bit further and I love how you know you're playing off of your name there as well it feels appropo of of of your brand um I don't even think he has to win the game I think he has to go in and make it look not you know just a step above serviceable and make it look convincing and there's not a whole ton of errors and turnovers for the Broncos are going to be uh something that we got to watch for so I don't necessarily think they even have to win against Seattle for it to be a moral win we obviously want wins to start the season but I think it could be a success for bonix to go in there and hold his own but that's a Shawn Payton plan and I hope they lean into the Run game some because if you're able to throw your running backs out there and a mobile quarterback you have a chance to kind of throw the game uh in in your advantage uh especially if you're trying to um highlight a a defense that is going to lean on their ability to uh mess up a highflying offense um yeah yeah I I this too obviously Seattle has draymont Jones Draymond has always come across as a Revenge game guy to me that that that that one that one I see some Sam wattenberg reps not doing not all too great now I will say I was absolutely wrong about that Zach Zack Allen's better than Draymond Jones I have to throw that out there as well uh great signing Broncos I was absolutely wrong you were you were and I've also highlighted Zach Allen as who's going to have a breakout season and everyone was like oh I don't know his last season was really good too I've seen multiple people in the National media say it's Zack Allen breakout season so I hope I didn't um jinx it there but damn this is really impressive uh and exciting to watch and uh yeah I would have to agree with you there Joey Richards I think he is the better uh player there and being to do so yeah absolutely this last game Zack Allen went out there Bri sorry I'm excited sending the show crazy but Zack Allen went out there he didn't he played those backup offensive linemen that's worth saying but there is also something about treating backup offensive lineman how they should be treated and that's exactly what Zach Allen did he treated them like backup offensive lineman he didn't just win his reps he dominated that game when he was out there it wasn't even close you saw the difference between hey I'm a good starter and then this is a backup offensive lineman that's what that game was should exactly that I'm looking forward to Zach on this next year I don't know if King Rays is asking what our favorite tea is or if like that's a saying like this is my favorite tea uh either way I I don't know uh I'm gonna answer it it's green tea uh I I don't know this this these shows are fun I got nowhere to be so I'm fine with it but I think that will do it from
