full Florida and the swamp where as they like to say here only the Gators come out alive this place is cranked up and ready for a big game today and a game like this is what makes college football great yeah there's history and tradition but right here right now there is tremendous intensity and bitterness on this field you can feel it as we'll see the number 23 team in the country the Miami Hurricanes taking on a squad from the SEC the Florida Gators 3A sport college football I'm Chris F here in the booth with Kirk herb Street I think we've talked long enough Kirk let's get this game going the Gators will kick this deep to get us going return begins inside the 10 the cover team brings him down at the [Applause] 26 the Hurricanes offense TRS out there to open this game well Kirk you can just feel the emotion the intensity of this rivalry game right now well one thing we know is you work year round for a rivalry game and now it's right before your eyes let's see how these guys play today it's early but this crowd is fired up listen to this noise here this is going to be tough for the visitors today they've got him back there for a loss of eight well they run it right into a blitz and that linebacker was coming down hker man what a time to call that Blitz here by the defensive coordinator and you're right he shoots right through that a Gap really the back had nowhere to go by the time he got the ball in his hands linebacker right in his face well K played in rivalry games no shortage of inspiration but how do you manage the emotion of it all well I think you need great leadership from the team sometimes teams don't handle the emotions of it and the game can get sideways on you the teams that play the best in rivalry games are the teams that have the best leaders to keep them focused on the task at hand so when their first drive of the game they'll go for it in their own territory a running play called on fourth down and he's brought down but not before he gets first down yardage gutsy call here by this offense early in this game on a fourth down they decide to go for it and they come up with the first down to be able to move the sticks and keep this drive alive the gutsy call B pays off for the offense running game is working they'll stick with it on first down Nowhere to Run they caral him for No Gain was an excellent effort by this defense just staying in their run fits holding their own at the line of scrimmage and then making a tackle offense just couldn't get enough of a push to get any yards at all caught quickly breaks a tackle and he's got room after second effort he's brought down but is past the marker this is why this quarterback goes to this tight end his size and his athletic ability the soft hands to make the catch but Chris this is what separates him from other tight ends in the country look at him after the catch breaking tackles and picking up more yardage and'll bring him down after just a short pickup seeming his spread era over the years has always grown offensively but what I've been always impressed with the defenses that really build their defense to play in space still have an ability to be sound at the line of scrimmage and defend a running game it's exactly what we saw right there to get him down quickly not much of a gain on that completion and the running back that time just kind of sneaks out of the back field and shows his hands on that nice catch dropping back it's Ward he's hit right as he throws it incomplete looks like the coach decides to go for three points here here comes the field goal team this will be and the Gators will bring their punt team onto the field the offense will have the punt for the first time this afternoon and the coverage scene gets the returner to the ground Miami and the Hurricanes offense retakes the field no doubt the last Drive was deflating he had to settle for a field goal attempt but missed it on First and 10 here looking to throw the ball caught over the middle it's George quarterback looks downfield to make this throw he wants to be able to get the ball to be able to pick up enough yards for a first down but instead he gets the ball at least underneath to the drag route and get some positive yards that completion makes it second and short scanning the field it's Ward looking to make a play deep downfield that deep shot is caught for a big game the defense has spread all over the field creating some one-on-one matchups and a quarterback Mak some pay for it pass complete for a first down the offense gets a fresh set of downs there's the snap looking to throw the ball that's reeled in it's George they stop him but it's a first down they bring him down but the veteran back shows off that trademark arm strength and the Kan starting a new series here on First and 10 from the shotgun drops back he's got it near the end zone and he scores touchdown for the youu wow that is an impressive start Kirk in an emotional game like this to be so efficient to click like that early is impressive well it's very impressive and a great way to start for this team because all the buildup and all the hype now you can just Settle Inn and play your game bat is good they jump in front 7even nothing getting set to kick the ball off now bringing it out it's Hawkins solid job by the Tod team they bring him down at the 16 and the Florida offense is back out on the field now this group is coming off a quick three and out can they put something together in this drive you start the drive with a quick throw to the left side breaks one tackle gets brought down but picks up some decent yardage well defending this guy you need more than one Defender you really got to stress rallying to the football because this guy can make people Miss second down we're going to throw it incomplete very lucky to avoid an interception there pretty nice catch here but a missed opportunity for an interception let's face it a lot of these Defenders they've got it all speed athleticism but ends sometimes a little questionable as we saw here tackle right at the 30 good enough to move the sticks a running play gives the offense fresh set of downs to throw it's Ms and he's going to float this one to the right side and it's caught way down field inside the 35 the Gators are on the move here it's first down for the off Kirk as we take a break for the quarter here it's Miami in front let's check out the stats now for the opening period Miami [Applause] Z with that sack defense is coming after him and the pressure gets to him again interesting call here by the defense in their dime set with six defensive backs instead of Manning up and applying pressure on the receivers they sit back make it tougher on the quarterback make him have to read their Zone coverage he gets confused and allows the defensive line to get to the quarterback and no chance for a return as the punch sails out of [Applause] bounds here comes the Miami the offense back out onto the field they scored a touchdown on the last possession let's see if this defense has been able to come up with some adjustments and stop him this time grab behind the line it's Martinez defense drops him for a loss tougher second down on the way this is not how you draw it up as an offensive coordinator you get a first down play and you go backwards now you're behind the sticks and that play just never seemed to have much of a chance at all tackled behind behind the line it's a loss of two well a serious challenge for this offense you don't want to be in third and long inside your own 20 how much of a risk will they take to try to up this first down he's running out of time here hit as he releases it and the pass ball is ain't complete Cades will have to kick it away with the return it's Hawkins the returner is brought down there is a flag on the field so we'll check out this call pretty easy call for the head coach he will accept that penalty of course offense gets a second chance after the roughing the punter penalty out of the shotgun he'll hand it off solid gain moves the ball to the 36 Hey listen you don't always have to have big plays to be successful it's a nice solid gain here keeps you on schedule and you get ready for that next play back to throw it's Ward receiver looks it in it's complete it'll be enough for a first down brought down at the 43 the hurricanes come to the line to set a fresh set of downs here comes a first down pass attempt and a short pitch and catch to the tight end they bring him down after a short gain there pass complete it's second down now they'll run it out of the shotgun tackled behind the line it's a loss of two well I don't think the offensive line gave the back much of a chance at all now give credit to the defense it was almost like they were anticipating a run and got up close to the line of scrimmage in a hurry drops back needing a third down completion here here can't hold on good defensive play brings up a fourth down the Hurricanes were line up to boot it away he was hoping that would check up but a big bounce sends it into the end zone for a Touchback and the Florida offense retakes the field and were forced to pun it away last time so let's see if they can get clicking in this possession so the first play of the drive coming up here under three minutes to play before half Back In Motion now they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep pickup is five yds so it's second down and five second down here time for perhaps just one more play before the two-minute warning and here's the handoff oh there's the take it off brings up fourth down the Gators will bring their punt team onto the field the coverage team makes the stop on this return the Miami will take over and first down looking to throw the football grab down the middle it's Joseph tackle made after a nice pickup on the play Chris the more we watch these spread offenses attack in today's game it's not just about the vertical shots with the taller receivers on the outside defenses are challenged even more by those smaller slot receivers in their quickness in space grab near the STI it's Joseph they make the stop but not before a solid gain that time first down here for this offense quarterback drops back probing the secondary that's reeled in it's George they stop him at the 22 this offense in great scoring position now offense set up on First and 10 here's the snap offense looking to throw the ball caught near the stick it's Joseph the stop made at the five the offense will have first and goal now this defense has got to do a better job and coverage if they want to get off the field anytime soon you keep defending like that and this offense could have 50 on you by the end of this game and it's incomplete even in a first down throw he was under some heavy pressure it's a second and goal play for the offense back to throw it's Ward he's moving out of the pocket and he runs it in for the score touchdown hurricanes so a quarterback who can escape and score like that what a boost for this offense yeah quarterbacks like this who can scramble are so hard to defend because the defense is so caught up in coverage and defending the pass by the time they realize what's happening there's no chance of stopping him from scoring so after the touchdown here's the kickoff and we'll see if the opposing offense has time to answer before halftime Turner looking to make a play here makes it to the 16 that's good coverage there the gator offense retakes the field backed up this close to the Rend Zone in the final minute let's see if they just decide to take care of the football and look toward the second half bringing pressure that one Falls incomplete good defensive play brings up second down everything about this play tells you about today's offenses and what they're asking out of their running backs you can't just be a guy who runs the football anymore you have to be able to catch it as well he didn't do a very good job of it on this play heads out of bounds as a short gain on play important third down play coming up after that completion looking to pick up the first down through the air receiver makes the catch time out is called to talk strategy late in this poose game with halftime approaching well that's that's exactly how you Dice up a Zone coverage nice throw downfield here on third down and a really good route to give the quarterback a chance to make that play here's the handoff solid gain moves the ball to the 37 and a quick timeout call by the offense and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how could you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top the canes will kick this away to start the second half so no return here he takes any KN in the end zone and they'll begin the drive at the 25 and the Florida offense is back out on the field now first down play call coming up how aggressive will it be they get the second half started with the running play that's a nice wrap up there by the junior the defense coordinator this week all week telling us about Gap Integrity not giving this running back any creases at all really sound defense on that play Zero Running Room stopped right at the line of scrimmage how about this defense just so physical against a run these guys have not been able to do anything on the ground and it's because of that defensive line and those linebackers taking away the Run game and he'll drop back here on third down here's a wideopen receiver complete oh and he's in the clear down the left side can they catch him and he takes it all the way to the end zone touchdown Gators such a well-designed play Here by this offense to find a way to get the ball to the gifted tight end he's got the size he's got the speed he's a difficult matchup and here he shows he's got the speed to take it all the way into the end zone for that touchdown the kickoff team on the field now as they get set to send this one away he return it from inside the 10 yd line he stopped at the 20 triying to make something happen and that's good coverage there and the Hurricanes offense retakes the field remember last time they scored a touchdown can they keep clicking here or the defense come up with a stop here's the first play of the drive now out from the 20 yd line looking to throw it on first down grab near the sticks it's Joseph they bring him down but a big chunk of yardage on the play you know each receiver brings something a little bit different to the table Chris to me the outside receivers usually a little bit longer taller guys you get those slot receivers in the inside not only can they make the catch but they have quickness to make plays after the the catch break the example of that right here second down play coming up scanning the field it's Ward easy throw to a wide open receiver downfield explosive play the game moves the ball all the way to the 30 the coordinator told us about the quarterback he told us about the receivers and how they're going to throw the football but man they better get locked in on stopping this run game because that was a big time game there's the snap they'll set up to throw trying to create outside the pocket now makes it across the goal line touchdown kanes all the energy really building n then I care for this could get ugly Chris this offense has been impressive the entire game and one of the great things about rivalry games is you never forget this kind of performance BC is good they're pulling ahead now 217 kickoff team is on the field to boot this one away and he'll just take a knee Drive will start at the 25 yd line the Florida offense retakes the field they punched it in the last possession can they do it again or will this defense make some adjustments to get a stop it's t the middle to get stop that run goes nowhere getting set here's second down there's the snap he's looking to throw H over the middle it's Hansen this guy has a big time on he just zipped the ball in there you know you can sometimes show your arm strength in other ways than just bombing it deep they're going to throw for it on Third and short but near the six it's Wilson tackle made after a nice pick up on the play and the gator will line up on First and 10 from the gun he looks for an open man he's got it for a big gain and the gain just good enough for a first down a new set of downs after that [Applause] completion caught in the back field it's Wilson they get him but what a spin move that's one for the Highlight re well this is why they want to get his hands on the football as often as possible we always know about his ability to make plays downfield but here they just get it to him quick on a wide receiver screen he shakes a tackle and Pi touchdown Florida it was a foot race and he won it that's a crucial score let's see if they can build momentum and complete this comeback well I know they're still trailing but that score is a great first step in trying tring to break down this lead you don't want to leave it all to the fourth quarter when the pressure really intensifies and you have limited time we after up and goodi and he'll bring it out from inside the 10ag stopped at the 22 that's pretty solid coverage there and the Miami take over and here comes the Miami offense back out onto the field great possession last time they punch it into the end zone and the defense come up with a stop this time from the shotgun it's a handoff tackled behind the line it's a loss of two I think we all kind of get caught up in third down what what's an offense doing on third down but I think what's also important is how well do you defend first down if you can hold your opponents to a short gain or a tackle for a loss you throw the offense out of whack and their game plan gets much more challenging to try to come up with that first down first and 10 now the offense from the shotgun now here's an inside give gain of two yards now it's second down and eight see that's how you limit what an offense wants to do this time the defense just won the battle up front at the line of scrimmage not giving up any big plays everybody's Gap sound it's really solid defense on that play grab near the sticks it's Joseph it's a big game is back on the field they'll use that running game trying to bleed the clock here and they try to run inside but nowhere to go man just complimentary football really in a nutshell they get this football back thanks to their own defense creating that turnover working with the lead like this really it's all bit over now the offense is just thinking about running the football and working that clock pulls it in it's Joseph they stop him at the 23 this offense is getting close to the red zone chis that's another nice pick up through the air I I thought they might be really just out to run the football here with the lead but instead they're elting to throw the football different routes quarterbacks in Rhythm really it's almost an extension of their passing game second down at the incompletion dropping back it's Ward oh it it's all most picked off a chance for their first interception today going to set up third down they come to the line a long way to go for the first down but needing this pial conversion right now with the catch it's Joseph he's tackled quickly but the yardage is good enough for the first down the Cades are going to keep this drive moving on First and 10 looking to throw he's got it right near the end zone and he's in touchdown Miami Miami this guy can do it all we've seen him go behind coverage and make plays down field we can see him catch the ball underneath just like this and when he catches a football he is so dangerous after the catch this one leads him into the end zone for the six points extra point up and good a two touchdown lead here now in the fourth quarter here's the kickoff team Now set to boot this one away and it's fielded return to trying to make something happen he'll be tackled at the 18 that's good coverage there and the Florida offense is back out on the field now we'll see if this quarterback can shake off the interception he threw in the last possession and looking to throw now on first down a short completion of the tight end a huge hit by the linebacker Collision of big bodies there will we just continue to see this defense make great plays especially with their tackling and the awareness to understand we're in the fourth quarter you're trying to keep this offense inbounds so they keep that clock moving the offense gets a fresh set of downs after the pi we'll see if the defense can regroup this line getting set up it's a first down play SP they snap it quarterback looking to throw the ball and it's incomplete the defender arriv the same time is the football and now it's second down second down here time for one more play before the twoin War 29 Philly looking down field it's Ms and he just throws the ball away there nobody open excellent coverage third down here time for perhaps one more play before the two-minute warning drops back looking to throw for it on third down receiver looks it in it's complete and he's brought down but there is a flag on the field let's check out this call egregious ruing the passer call automatic first down let's hope the quarterback is okay so now the offense has a fresh set of downs after that roughing the passer penalty on First and 10 they'll look to throw it caught for the completion heads out of bounds after a solid gain more than enough to pick up and he'll set up to throw the pocket breaking down they've got him again that ferocious pass back to back sacks they'll hurry to the line here with the clock running third down and a mile looking to throw for it oh and he dropped it you don't see that often from this guy brings up fourth down down late they'll keep the offense on the field trying to chip away at this lead fourth down he's throwing for it lofting it toward the left sideline intercepted right near the end zone what a play and they tackle him right there but that's a turnover boy the offense just could not afford to throw this interception it's already a two- possession game by throwing this pick now you wonder how many more opportunities will you get and the Hurricanes offense retakes the field and they'll work the clock here by keeping it on the ground now a timeout taken by the defense trying to preserve as much clock as possible for their offense yeah I like this call here late in the game like this with the lead nothing too fancy just right up the middle trust that offensive line in this running back and just keep working that clock the sophore with a strong tackle there and now it's the defense that calls timeout here trying to get organized preserve as much clock as possible quarterback making some changes at the line and wow listen to this crowd boys this stadium is vibrating that's why this is such a tough place for visitors to play they bring him down but that's a solid gain on the play now a timeout taken by the defense trying to preserve as much clock as possible for their offense the hurricanes with first and 10 here 53 keeping it on the ground here they tackle him behind the line a loss of four that was that excellent linebacker with a clear path just run and downhill quickly you know I think one of the great things about watching this guy play all year is his vision he just has great instincts that time the defensive line ate up all the linemen freed up the linebacker to get into the back field and the result is a tackle for a loss for the backer and it's intercepted the last thing they could afford brought down after a short return at the 20 to snu out the scoring threat in the Red Zone excellent field position here for the offense back to pass it's MZ looking for the wide out he takes it in for the score touchdown Gators Chris they did what they had to do with this touchdown here now with under a minute to go you got to get that onside kick to give yourself a real shot makes the catch for the two-point conversion as they continue to cut into this lead looks like they're lining up to attempt an onside kick and the receiving team has recovered looks like the hands team did its [Applause] job so with the lead secure here it's time to just take a knee run out the clock and plan the Victory celebration let's be honest all wins are not equal you go in there and Hammer your rival and get bragging rights that's sweet man you yeah this one is a little bit different I mean this is a game you anticipate you look forward to the entire off season you're thinking about it now you get a big win against your rival you're riding that high much longer than your standard win and that is going to wrap it up we enjoyed this one here
