Episode 51: Celebrity Break-Ups - Mandie and Danae

Start [Music] Heartbreak Hotel it's just like heartbreak Heartbreak Hotel around here that's how I feel that's how I felt waking up this morning because last night we got on some tear watching television watching YouTube and I'm just going to put it out The lesbians of the world are heartbroken there the lesbians of the world today are heartbroken they are crushed they are shattered and with all du respect for the people who have just announced their breakup I want to respect their privacy but if we don't talk about it somebody else is going to talk about it right so I'm here to talk about it Mandy and d d Hayes and Mandy Kai absolutely adorable and uh what Mandy is a comedian and um I mean J is a comedian and wait back up wait so wait which one's Mandy C Manny Kai is a content creator yes and she and her wife uh D Hayes who is just taken off in the I don't know if you if it's a specific niche of she's like the pop comedy South she's like a female Jeff Foxworthy right you know kind of funny songs and she's an Entertainer across the board and they were so adorable They were so adorable and anyway they they were they just moved into a new house like a month ago and we were just literally just last night we were on some Ticket Master site or whatever because da is going on tour and so we're like okay where's she going to be we look she's going to be in Waco she's going to be in Austin Dallas Houston and the first go around which is coming up pretty we looked over to Danae's sold out tour Lafayette Lake Charles and New Orleans but the ones that are coming up in the next couple weeks like she's fairly well sold out of like she's sold out of everything great tickets so we're like okay well let's look back and M so we sent a group text out to some friends of ours and we're like hey would you guys want to go to Waco and they said funny you asked we're actually going the night before in Austin we've got tickets why don't you come with us like sold out great this was last night and so we make this plan we have this discussion so we're sitting there we're watching and I think you would gone back to Mandy and DA's like wedding videos and they it's just it's that lighthearted comedy fun and I think the thing that's so I don't know it was like finding for me is personally representation right like when you go on Their relationship had that golden ticket Instagram or you go on Facebook or you go wherever on social media you're going on to be inspired for something whether you're going on to be inspired by music choices or how you want to decorate your guest bathroom or what you want your salad to look like for lunch you're going to look for something and for me representation of of that relationship Mandy and da kind of had that golden ticket they could poke fun at each other they could laugh they could have jokes and they weren't runchy oh no no not at all and they had I assume they have still a podcast called uh refined and Rowdy right and they were so cute and Refined and Rowdy podcast they they were both uh D1 softball players and you know I guess did you find them first well I think da just sort of kind of came up into everybody's algorithm like that her song that released it wasn't the dick in their nightstand it was the other Road hard and hung up wet yes but like that topped and that beat out Carrie Underwood's single that she released so she kind of came up with everybody and I don't know Mandy has probably like 250,000 followers on Instagram and D has like 600 700,000 but they're at that Pinnacle moment where people are starting to pay attention it's like that matte rif phenomenon like oh hang on here's somebody that's really funny They're identifiable, they're relatable they're articul they're they they're identifiable they're relatable and so to wake up this morning I had to go to the post office I went to go get coffee and I had opened my phone on Instagram and I just going to use your phone to find the message real fast to read it out loud for those of the people who don't know and I think the reason that I felt um so connected to them it wasn't to them it was to D she Danae nailed her southernisms pitched at Alabama so I would just crack up all of her southernisms and she Nails it and you always kind of Wonder or I do what do people up north really think about us like you asked me last night you were like do the people of the North like find the people of the South funny and I was like that's an awfully broad blanket question well I mean you know people always have a a mindset of what something's like so d uh you know she was on the Paul fine bomb show and in which he's kind of the uh you know barara Walters um madh Hatter of ESPN and he has a show in the afternoon and he looks like a bean counter and so she was on his show she got to uh you know meet Nick Sabin cuz won the National Championship she got to meet the president and it was just like winning a national championship in anything in the SEC is like winning a Super Bowl and so you just when she pokes fun at herself and all the people in Alabama but in a good sweet loving way you have that self-deprecating kind of humor in your blood too so that's why I think you relate so much to her yeah but I just I I I found her hilarious absolutely hilarious well the post this morning and I saw it literally 13 minutes after it was posted and I started balling balling and it says and here's the thing I think Mandy posted it first because her name shows up first and I think she asked to be a collaborator but it says we are both deeply saddened to share that we We are both deeply saddened to share we have decided to go our separate ways have decided to go our separate ways this decision did not come easy as we both have so much love and respect for one another but it is truly what is best for both of us we have felt your guys' love for us for years and have soaked it in with gratitude we know so much of our relationship was in the public eye but if you could respect our privacy as we navigate through this extremely difficult time it would be greatly appreciated we love you all love D and Mandy now you have a suspicion about who wrote this I think that um Mandy wrote Mandie wrote that that because she put your guyses use use guys your guyses your guyses love yeah and that's just not something we see in the South and they have turned off the ability to comment on this post but They just got married two years ago there's I mean the internet's already blown up about it people are like were they hacked is this fake news because they just got married two years ago they just bought this Farmhouse maybe something going around cuz you know JLo and Ben Al just got married two years ago well because segue well you said to me the other day you were like we should talk about Ben and Jen and I'm like but I'm kind of this is the one that killed me I mean what Ben and Jen yeah I was really rooting for them I thought for sure you know her what seventh marriage She's got more rings than Tom Brady is a charm I don't know is a t Penny yeah she's got more rings than Tom Brady but like for JLo I just want somebody to give that girl a break not like just leave her alone right she's out there she's beautiful she's glowing she's she's representing all the time but it's like so and you wonder why so unlucky in love but then you don't because you having been in the spotlight to a certain degree you realize how many people are constantly pulling at you giving you a false narrative that truly doesn't match your life at all no and everybody has an opinion I don't have an opinion right now about da and Mandy other than I'm just sad I'm sad for them right like the last the only The mom and dad of the lesbian world relationship that I've ever looked up to cuz I said they're kind of became like the mom and dad of the Les world at least to me and they're probably both younger than me is what ironic but like I have a disc in the other room and I think I spent $300 it's 40 Years of John and Marina's love moments on on disc in case they ever you know cuz they'll go away I don't want to lose that that hope you know like that thread of hope that I had as a little girl watching this love story well you better upload those to the cloud or YouTube I know people need it people are desperate but I think like what's one of the most admirable love stories that you've ever witnessed that you thought okay that works and that gives me hope or The best love story - the checkout boy that that's what I want hands down the best love story I've ever heard of is uh the quarterback CT Warner and they made a movie about it I'm trying to remember exact ly how it goes but he got drafted to play pro ball maybe got hurt had to come back ended up being um a grocery store stalker and he met um a woman a little bit older than him she had been in the service and had three possibly four children and her husband had left her and her name was Brenda and he asked her out on a date and I mean I don't know if they've got ramen noodles and the whatever but he would talk about how broke they were and one of her children's special needs in a wheelchair and she basically want to say inadvertently tried to run him off prior to and he kept coming around and kept bringing flowers and then you know the Secretariat of the NFL world the NFL calls back and says do you want to try out you know quarterback this position and wondered if he was too old he was too rusty was this that and he takes them all of the Super Bowl and he has adopted all of her children and he's out on the field with a child with special needs and okay that's a good one that's a de Jer yeah top that yeah that's a good one yeah um but and the love that they have for each other still today and you know Brenda and the checkout boy he said we'll always just be you know I'm the checkout boy and you know he's a commentator now and I wish I knew more about football I remember which team it was that he played for but yeah Kurt Warner just in what and they go around and give their testimonial just I don't know them but just seem like wonderful human beings and I just don't think there's enough of that kind of message being spread at least from people that the majority of people look up to right like you can't even say that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are doing a good job of inspiring people to be like that because everybody's picking them apart as human beings look they can't they can't catch a break um they are catching a break let me rephrase that they they are just how difficult Couples under the microscope daytoday is and they have just as many problems honestly if not more because they're under the microscope right and it I feel for them because they deserve that kind of unbridled love you know dance like no one's watching certainly not anybody with 110 mm lens if they feel it and they're showing up for each other we should all show up for them like what they're putting out there right right um one of the other couples that I think that because we're just I feel like you and I have been really aware of kind of some of the women in your life especially how how much pressure people are under and how much self um a lot of my mom friends and a lot of married right but one we started watching um the million doll yes we started watching Million Dollar Listing and you know it's a new season Josh flag Nikki has shout out to Nikki hasell yeah love Nikki hasell and but I have to tell you that I watched Heather Alman on that show and I was like if somebody doesn't swoop in I I know a lot of that is scripted but there's no way that's an Oscar winning then she's missing the boat she needs to be an actress if that's acting there's no way that you could just see the trembling and the nerves and you know I know that the way they edit it is just so people that are Just trying to hold it together interested in it see but I felt she was gonna poor thing was going to break into tears at every breath uhhuh and she was just trying to hold it together right and you want to look at that and say you The Million Dollar Listing know what you you guys are having like a successful show you're selling all this property that's wonderful you have children whatever that's one that's great for you but here's a woman who has said I do to you who's sacrificing her life and her time and she's coming on camera and being vulnerable but if we the audience can feel this palpable energy from her that she is literally unraveling we can all sit around and say something somebody needs to help her right right somebody needs to say you know what take a deep breath none of this really is important because you could stroke out tomorrow you could die of a heart attack you could have all of these things but it's like as a just a a person I just wanted to reach out into the television and and hug her yes yeah she and she's absolutely beautiful but that's a that's Josh Alman what are you doing you're like your wife's in not in a good way and if you need a couple women to tell you she's not okay she's not okay right and while you're checking on her on the way back somebody need a check on Jos flag what do you think that's about I don't know there there's there's something he cannot be he can't even have a shadow he is so thin and in just the dark circles under his eyes and I don't know I mean look Hollywood doesn't get a bad rep for no reason we all know that it's a city that likes to chew people up and spit them out on the way and unless you're maybe self-medicating or doing something just to get from one day to the next a lot of people don't have the kind of authentic relationships with people that are going to say hey are you okay or hey do you need something or we don't know what those people are going through but to sit there as a consumer and watch it translate on television and just feel that empathy that what people are going through and I have so much empathy for the people who are devastated by the Mandy and da breakup like it you get invested and I think Becoming invested in 'public' relationships that's the part about them that makes me the saddest is we're all talking about authenticity and transparency but if they were going through something over the last two years and you said this this morning we didn't never see that no they never sat down on their podcast and the way it's edited right no and they never let on but they could have at any given time sat down and said okay you guys like here we are and because you're our fan base or our audience you're the reason we are where we are today we want to be transparent we want to be honest and tell you like marriage isn't always easy and that's okay but these are the things that we're doing because it's not easy and those are the things I want from somebody I don't want all the glitz and glamour they sold us the glitz and glamour of why it was happy and nothing but bliss and that's why we all bought in hookline and sinker but I want to know what are the things that you struggle through what are some of the things that you have issues communicating about what do you do to make sure that that other person knows that you love them no matter what and you're going to still be there the next day and because we didn't get that side it makes sense now but I think that's why it's so devastating is because you never saw it coming no I mean and I read that it was August 20th that it was J was the one that filed yeah you're already on like the court record document who filed for divorce straight to the good part sorry about that you know minding your all's privacy yeah yeah just I feel for them I just I really do I am of course don't know them so I can't I don't have any insight we want to know you if you're watching Insight on that but it's just she captured uh when storytelling about the south she did it in such a fun way that Danae's comic characters you know a lot of times when I hear these um might be redneck if I mean after a while just come on get some new material she was she would do these characters and you know the nosy Caren um the crazy ant cigarette smoking you know too much sun in on the hair and the and she just had all these go isms people that lived in her um her prank calls oh her prank calls they prank call Luke Brian's mother yeah and it was that was hilarious but you can just go on and and look them up and but you know as I was driving back from coffee this morning I thought to myself A critical episode of their podcast what was it and honestly it was probably about four three weeks ago four weeks ago maybe they filmed a couple podcast episodes and and maybe this was I just watched it a couple weeks ago I don't actually know when the episode was but it was a episode where D was supposed to plan Mandy's perfect day and you know usually those kinds of things are on the in the background while I'm working or whatever but this one I paid extra close attention to and this is strictly speculation I could be completely wrong but just watching that as a human being I look at their relationship or what they've given us of their relationship and I feel like DA has risen to this place where she's now on tour Mandy's probably a little bit more holding down the Ford of of Life maybe but Mandy sat next to her and she's like okay Den if you were going to plan my perfect day what would it look like and I just felt like every answer D gave wasn't it didn't hit home it didn't and I think that kind of a not disrespect but a a lack of awareness from your partner that you think that they should hit it out of the park or you know what was that that marriage television show where you ask Picking up clues to the breakup the person the question and game yeah you like you think of course they're going to get it and it felt like da just didn't hit where Mandy needed her to be and I I felt like I watched her face fall and she had this sadness that Mandy was like waiting for da to show up for her maybe she just couldn't do it because Fame took off too fast or maybe she wasn't really in it time will tell but I I just it just breaks my heart for them and like it does like I said we everybody has problems and I remember when Jeff Bezos and his wife McKenzie split up and they nobody saw it coming and then they put out the press release and you just realize it doesn't matter if you know you're a college student or you're a young working professional or middleaged it just everybody's got relationship issues at some time or the other well and I think even going back to what we talked about with the Twilight thing it just also highlights and emphasizes how much people are looking for somebody to look up to and with the Twilight thing this was a 12y year not Twilight specifically but the Vampire Diaries this is a almost 12 year running show where people have become so hyper invested in these characters relationships that they're traveling to Disillusion with our own relationships the same place in Georgia just to get a an essence of what that feels like and are we all so disillusioned by our own relationships and love in general that we always have to continue to look outside and find other characters who are living something that we can only hope to have because we're not acquiring it in our real lives yes I mean I can't tell you how many times you look at Facebook and you'll read and you be like God they love each other so much and it's in this like admiration of something that you can't even conceptualize you know one of the things that I felt for JLo was she want to love so bad she was with the baseball player Al Rodriguez you know it had come out time after time that he wasn't faithful and you know I'm sure the isolation that you feel at that level of Fame is crippling right honestly like who's friends with me because they want to be friends with me or who's friends with that never leaves your mind but just again not even who's friends with me who can I trust that you everybody's got a camera phone everybody's and they're people are just People who take pleasure in other's conflicts out to sink everybody right and I don't understand it but you wanted it so bad for you know Alex Rodriguez to come to censes but I thought you know she'll find somebody she just needs to find a regular guy you know the longest relationship she had was with that dancer that oh was it yeah how long was is she with with Mark Anthony I I'm not sure I mean pretty good run but long enough to have twins but um here it was that uh so she ends up with Ben Affleck they get married in Georgia they do the drive- through wedding chapel in Vegas and it's like 20 years later Love's found its way around again and I just remember she was glowing and just floating and she had gotten had saved a uh dress from something she had had left over for a movie and that's what she wore in Vegas and it was like you know she made it all throw threw it you know and made it Jlo and Ben happen and she was like it was no entage it was just us they stood in line like everybody else and you go okay you're really rooting for them and then it wasn't even a month later at the Grammys and you could just see him see and whatever they were you know but every time that camera pan to him you know he was just more irritated more irritated and I don't know what they thought it was going to be different and I think you know she canceled her tour so she could focus more time on him and it's just like well you know the other day we overheard uh Nikki say to Josh flag and I will never forget this quote for the rest of my life Nikki hll says you know darling it's really hard hard to reheat the sule and the more I think about it it's Neglecting your partner true it's it's it's not a it's not you can't stretch out a rubber band and then expect it to Spring back together you can't you can't spend day after day after day neglecting the one person that you think is going to be there for you that you're going to be there for them to show up in thick and thin sickness and health all of that and just you H it does take work and it does take commitment and it does take priority and you know I had a conversation with a family member who 20 years ago I remember her saying to me that her husband was her number one priority he still is but she's no longer his and that breaks my heart for her because you know you want people to feel like they are champions at love when they've done so much to dedicate themselves to it and but you have to find that other person that's willing to work just as hard just as much be as just as enthusiastic about you every single day and so whatever Mandy and D are going through I do hope you'll work it all out but if you can't we respect it but I'm sad we're sad it's a sad day yeah what does love come to I don't know let's rewrite the book all right well with that being said say good night Lucy good
