some playing time a little bit freshman year you know uh earned some freshman some freshman All-American accolades okay uh got put on full scholarship going to my sophomore year you know it's just been a blessing right ever since yeah yeah that's awesome man we definitely hit not of the high school uh to the college and hopefully the pros as well and before that as always here Prayer Moment it's a bit spicy situation but I'm sure you're ready for this one the hot take for you is Brandon you know always being I guess typically the smaller guys on the field what were you able to do when whenever you had that god-given Talent what what else were you able to do uh to build upon your craft to be in the situation you are today you know uh just taking heed from what my father always told me you know uh whether it's be the first in the meeting room you know be the first lastly the weight room and attack every every rep whether it's in practice or just you know playing around the field like it's a game rep yeah you know and I've always uh taken that with me you know like you said being a little quote unquote undersized you know you have to walk around with a chip on your shoulder sure and that's caused me to do that day in and day out yeah that's huge that's huge and and before we talk about here uh at North Carolina Central Brandon Codrington High School Highlights University we'll backtrack and talk about your high school career at uh what's the high school again PR proun for Bron High School Bron okay go I didn't want to trip over it but there um I mean you being a three-time varsity athlete there share with us a little bit of your experience uh being an underclassman and then you know all the way to your senior year there yeah so came in as freshman you know uh feel like wise my coaches always tell me you're your talent level you're you're ready to play barity as a freshman uh it was just I was undiz you know I didn't hit a gr spur until probably like sophomore year okay and uh my coach you know when I came back after that summer you know he about fell down to his knees he was like thank you for you know U but yeah so you know yeah freshman year played JV you know had a decent had a decent uh time I was transitioning from pop warer sure I played Pop Warner off through Middle School um sophomore year you know started started as a uh at corner uh actually did no returning crazy uh yeah started at corner uh then had a decent year and then junior year and Senior year was it was really senior year is when I took it to another level right at least returning wise I tried tried out returning senior year uh led to State and block block field goals block punts all that wow and I just did Ki return I top in the state and kit return as a senior and you know just went from there yeah that's very impressive to say the least and then you know obviously it's not glamour to say but you know your freshman at your sophomore and junior year the team wasn't the best record wise but obviously your senior year where y'all reached above the 500 record with the s-6 record as well as reaching the playoffs I guess give us a little bit of Insider feed of what yall were able to do to turn around the program yeah so really was just the team chemistry you know that that summer we actually had like 30 seniors oh wow that year my senior year so I feel like it was just the the bond that we had we were with each other all summer just hanging out going to the field together you know uh it was just we grew we grew a Brotherhood yeah and I feel like that made us play play better it was something that we had never did before so you know it allowed us to play better and you know play for one another and you know going to that seni year uh it it was a stat conference I can't lie yeah a lot of guys from that conference are now in the NFL or at least playing Power five ball my goodness so uh you know it was competition week in and week out uh but thankfully we went to the playoffs you know for the first time and we end up losing to the state champs so you know we really couldn't be too too too mad about that but uh but yeah you know it was definitely a great year that's interesting you say that cuz I didn't know that and you know obviously it being in Raleigh where it's not too far away and of course as you mentioned the competition was surreal to say the least being a 4A four AA yeah so the Choosing North Carolina Central University competition was stacked and going there you landed here at North Carolina Central home of the Eagles talk a little bit about your process going here and what ultimately LED your decision being here as a walkon yeah so actually I was getting recruited by Ivy Leagues okay coming out of high school uh you know uh Princeton columia uh Brown schools like that yeah and uh it just came down to scholarship money you know out of state and also where could I play right now no doubt you know uh so also got an offer from Campbell you know it was a partial but they're a private school so you know tuition is crazy yes is so uh actually my cousin lav he's the head basketball coach here oh my so I actually uh hit him up and I asked I was like you think I can you know get in touch with the coaching staff and maybe walk on so uh you know I got in touch with the coaching staff they told me you know we don't we don't treat walk ones here any different you know if if you can play we're trying to keep our jobs so if you can play You'll Play right and that was that was all I needed to hear that's beautiful that's beautiful and I appreciate you giving us that Insider feed of really what transpired to what led you be coming here with the Eagles and then obviously I mean from your Freshman Year at NCCU freshman year till now you made a you know quick and you made your presence known as I mentioned before your accolades of four time All-American four time all Mech I guess give us a little bit about what you were able to do uh your freshman year yeah so uh freshman year you know I was in a rotation a little bit okay uh I was a really more so came in every third down as a Nick Corner yeah uh so slot corner for people who don't know sure um and I was I didn't get the returning job until like four games into the season okay so uh you know it was a decent year you know it wasn't what I wanted but uh I Tred to take most Advantage you know advantage of my opportunities and you know uh you know had had a couple uh passes defended you know gave up no catches freshman year yeah not me can say that right right um and then I end up returning a kick which I feel like this what stamped my uh career going on you know I returned to kick the last game of the season uh with like 30 seconds left in the game it was tied up okay and I had a game winning K cral crun time made some made some lists and gain a few accolades yeah that's what really I think set the tone for my career that's nice that's nice and clearly it did because your sophomore year and I was looking through your research I was like my goodness how many rewards I mean just give us a little bit about what how many rewards you just you know earned just based off that sophomore year yeah so my sophomore year I finished like top three in the country in all of division one in in uh return yards yeah uh you know uh just making guys miss you know uh had like I had one touchdown that year but it was just my yards average average almost 17 yards a pun return that's incredible yeah uh I had a great defensive year yeah um you know might have dropped some picks but uh happens to the best of us yeah that was my first year starting that corner gave up two started every game gave up two Ts that whole season that's amazing uh you know so yeah it was a right definitely a lot of accolades you know I was uh All Conference uh fourth team allc conference DB uh first team returning uh first team All-American HBCU and FCS allamerican so wow yeah wow was a good year yeah no doubt and then that following year is really when the NCCU 2020 Football Season Recap team collectively took off where I mean the 10 and two record the uh Champs at the cricket Bowl uh and just give us a little bit inside feed of what happened that year and what led to y'all being the champs yeah so it really picky backs to my senior year of high school okay uh you know our coach so usually you know in the summer people on scholarship they stay here in the summer and work out people who are scholarship they go home but for the summer and they come back like second half of the summer for workouts but this summer it was different that summer he um he had the whole team stay on campus oh wow so I feel like you know just staying on campus and getting that bond that Brotherhood working out all all summer we only went home for like two weeks after the semester y'all stuck together yeah all summer and um I feel like that's what made the difference right um you know working hard putting the work and you know and then when it came to game time it was easy yeah and we were just clicking on all cylinders that whole year there you go the Brotherhood that you know the unity to as one was beautiful and and clearly it worked you know being there the whole off season together and then fast forward to this NCCU 2021 Football Season Review past season your senior year with another terrific year 9 and3 overall I guess I want to hear what what were some of your favorite moments your senior year I have a lot of moments uh you know so my junior year uh I had like a little high ankle spring so I missed a few games and uh okay yeah so I wanted to come back my sen year and and stamp stamp it be like know my sophomore year wasn't a flute know I understand that so you know I guess first game uh I think it was like third quarter I can't remember what quarter I think it was second quarter second quarter okay uh took a 87 yard pump return to the crib uh 86 yeah yeah uhhuh right down the sideline actually um uh and then that was a great moment uh you know just it was the feeling with surreal to be surreal to be back you know first game off of injury you know just coming back and stamping stamping things right uh then you know another moment was when we played Northfork State you know uh had a big play right here at the goal line actually you know just hearing the crowd and just just just the feeling was crazy homecoming homecoming the energies is always crazy so you know but yeah I I had a lot of good moments but those are probably my top two moments you know for the season yeah yeah no doubt and then I almost forgot you know going back to NCCU 2022 Cricket Celebration Bowl Victory your junior year when y'all won in the cricket I guess share with us what was some of the big plays whenever y'all you know defeated Jackson State in OT so uh it was a lot of big plays actually uh you know back and forth but I feel like our quarterback play you know our quarterback did a thing that game uh made a lot of made a extended a lot of plays uh made a lot of crucial throws you know our receivers a lot of crucial catches you know uh uh you know the hype around Travis Hunter and all that you know we had receivers was head topping him you know getting off with him we had a freshman Corner locking him down the whole game oh my so so yeah it was just everybody was just clicking on on every cylinder it was it was Terri yeah those moments you had with the team I'm sure that's something you'll definitely remember forever and that's beautiful and as we fast forward now uh I got to HBCU Legacy Bowl Highlights ask you how was the HBC Legacy Bowl how was that for you uh out in New Orleans yeah so it was actually a good experience you know being in front of all the CFL teams all 32 NFL teams you know just being able to Showcase your talent for a week you know it was it was a great experience you know I feel like I left my Mark um I did I did as much as I could and uh you know yeah it was definitely a great great week you know we taught around the city did community service learned about New Orleans wow uh went to some extoric historic places yeah and it was it was a great experience yeah I'm sure is it's a lot different you feel better when you know you giv your all there and that's great to hear and as we fast forward I got to ask you when we talk about Pros did you Impact of Bears’ QB Change on Team have a favorite team uh growing up yeah so I am a do hard Steelers fan Steelers fan so I was so I played Pop Warner from like the age of 6 until like 12 or 13 can't remember and it was a capital city Steelers yeah so I'm I'm a die hard man yeah no doubt no doubt and mean you know obviously we got to talk about the QB room change with Russell wlson Justin Fields you think that uh overall change has improved or worsen the team I guess you could say I probably really want no one to the season you know I know that they want to play Russell Wilson and let Justin Fields just watch and develop him which I think is a good move uh him just sitting down for a year and developing and learning the system I think he'll come in two years from now and do his thing yeah that's fair that's fair take to uh because you know obviously I I I take the stance of it's better to have two QBs than none in my I think itall theit the steers and that kind of leads to the big question are you ready for Brandon Codrington's NFL Potential that yeah all right Brandon so my big time question for you is whever you're given the opportunity to the next level wherever it may be what are some talents what are some things that you can benefit the team for uh you know just being versatile yeah um you know special teams wins games uh I've did it i'm won a few games in college special teams so you know I feel I'd be valuable I know most rookies start off on special teams yeah I feel I'd be very valuable on special teams you know every unit I did every unit in college yeah set field goal I get you but yeah so I feel I'd be very versatile in that aspect and then I can play receiver and DB right you know uh down at Legacy B I actually play both really yeah so I feel like I can be versatile at at both positions well three positions really yeah that's impressive now I feel like you know the more the uh the best ability the best ability is availability and I and I feel I can be available at lot more positions than the average average player completely agree I mean teams tend to forget you know offense defense but the third team is special teams of course and i' I've watched your game and you've almost mastered all three levels all three teams and I'm just looking forward to seeing what you do at the next level I'm excited for you and I'm also a privilege having you here at North Carolina Central as always guys be sure to like comment and subscribe check out the merchandise as we begin to wrap up but before we wrap up I'm going to give Closing Remarks from Brandon Codrington you floor one final time give those listening any words of encouragement advice or also shout outs yeah so you know I get a lot of DMS uh regarding you know my my my process on how I walk doing a lot of guys you know uh question the same thing like is it possible can they do it you know my message my message is always the same it's just you know believe in yourself keep God first uh trust your family trust yourself do it and have a why you know having a why is the biggest thing you know not just doing it just to do it right you know when you have a why you play play better yeah and know also just uh don't let someone put their limitations on or reflect their limitations on you you know uh if you believe you can do it you can do it you know all all you need is is a mustard seed you know that's yeah Mustard Seed and Sh yeah that's all you need so you know just believe in yourself uh put the work in you know limit the distractions you know and just go get it yeah yeah that's real I like that you know keeping your priorities straight and you know having that why as you mentioned and that will take you long ways for sure and it's like I mentioned before it's a pre privilege having you here on the show and as we head out we'll just say peace on three sounds good with you yes sir all right one two three peace peace [Music]
