really struggled batting below 200 against him and it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball maybe it's the release point maybe it's the motion but just some way somehow they've got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side number 11 the batter now as he swings and misses for strike [Applause] one swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left Center Quan takes the catch and there's one gone and here now the lineup for the Royals it's been a real struggle for this group dead last in the league in hits so a lot of empty swings and soft contact leads to not much scoring Chris yeah could build an i5 wind farm with this lineup the way these players swing and Miss I don't know exactly what it is I mean they're still professional hitters but it's just been up and down the lineup this year just swinging and missing clearly they got to make some adjustments major changes are needed because these players aren't going anywhere they continue to have the trouble they're having making contact and that's outside one ball one strike that's down and in one down BCE is empty swing in a Miss as he was out front that [Applause] time in the air right field Noel snags it for the second out two outs Bas is empty and next up for the Royals Vinny [Applause] pasquantino and first off ring is fouled off [Applause] the wi of the pitch swing and a miss struck him out and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three Royals bats are quiet there now the Guardians will get their shot still scoreless it's majorly baseball on the show back now at Progressive Field getting the nod in this one Brady singer what do you have on him Chris well quick stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strike out to walk ratio on the season so when you consider consistency the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners that's critical in winning games today especially when teams are depending on the big swing the home run to win ball [Applause] games swing and a ball ripped out towards right center field that'll TouchDown for a hit and it gets by him and he'll pull to Second safely as soon as that one shot off his Barrel he was thinking extra bases really nice job of getting the bat out front but not hooking around or rolling over just kept the swing on plane and SMU that and he's in there as a run scores always feels good when you come through and get your team on the board first just kept it PL Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there's just no one there to knock it down here's Jose ramirz and Cleveland on top one Z first pitch misses singy maybe some nerves getting the best of him at the first well it's hard to know exactly if it's nerves or not but he just doesn't have it right now those hitters on the other side they're going to say it's nerves and use that as a Competitive Edge to try to jump on him even more cand up run looking for more fouled off he was late that's hard hit in the line Ren fro makes the grab run tags at second and he's in safely at third with one out batting four the first Bas here's the Guardians lineup now a really frustrating showing for them in their last game lots of traffic on the bases but they left a ton of Runners on base couldn't cash in their chances Chris they had plenty of chances there's nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively they just did a poor job converting in those situations you have to figure out what's your plan going to be maybe watch some tape deliver in those spots close one doesn't get the call and that is ball one good spot there but didn't get the strike the knees and doesn't seem too convinced by the call out there on the M as he tries to get a better sense of the Umpire Strike Zone left hand batter weights that's [Applause] B and that one is lifted in the air Blanco settles underneath it Blanco makes the play [Applause] now second Andre now at the plate Andre Jimenez singled and drove in a run his first time through that one finds the Zone one one always tough to turn two on speed like this it's even harder with him coming out of the left-handed batter box you really need something to hit hard on the ground that they can handle to turn too [Applause] quickly Naylor the lead runner at second roio at first one gone that misses and it's one and two well as a pitcher when you make a big pitch down around the knees and don't get the call it'll EAD at you out there so some handle it a little bit better than others and his Bat stays in the zone for a long time absolutely crushed that pitch back to the top of the lineup here's the third baseman in the air left field sizes this one up and that'll do it the Royals get a run in the Inning on this solo Homer and this is now a 2-1 ball game here in Cleveland as we go to the last of the third now it's the Guardians DH will Brennan the wine of the pitch that one hammered but pulled foul you know these Guardians showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one they've worked three walks already so that proves they're not anxious up there they're sticking to their game plan and it's working [Applause] he goes down looking wow that's a tough call for the hitter but the pitcher will take that all day long not quite in the strike zone but he found a spot that the Umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call so hitters are going to have to make an adjustment but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can and here is joh Kenzie Noel one down Bas is empty missed with a change up and it's one and one though Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this game here's a onew and another ball it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really lays out but he can't squeeze it and he thing that I can see already his Bat stays in the Zone on plane for an extended period of time and guys like that they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane and even when you don't get it great it's still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder the pck that's to third into the Outfield base hit so that's two straight two out hits backto back single kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock and you'll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game next to hit Michael mass and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter [Applause] fought off foul Perez one at second on the first out double play just got it there in time well almost anytime you roll over and send it two ball to short at this level you can pretty much count on a dou play middle infielders are just so reliable and they work on these plays all the time so it almost becomes like second [Applause] nature Noel stands in with two away as he takes a ball wouldn't chase that time of what he contributes defensively Chris and when you talk about preventing runs from being scored this guy is a big contributor swing in a highfly ball out there towards left field pulls it in on the run and there are two outs up next to the now here's the lead off hitter for the Royals when you talk about Elite defensive third baseman this guy is at the top of the list swag and a popup foul out a play off to the right side that'll find the stands this guy plays Third Base like he's a short stop and he welcomes the difficult play can throw from so many different angles and makes really tough plays look very easy [Applause] next offering upstairs so what are the skills you look for that make a really good defensive third baseman that Elite well boo one of the things I think about immediately are just the feet does he have good feet is he able to quickly react and when you have Good Feet you've got soft hands and soft hand Defenders are able to make tough plays look easy got it by him for the Royals go down one two three they're down here 5 to one we head to the bottom of the fif now here is B Naylor the catcher B nailor Lorenzo back to work ball that's inside you know these Guardians putting together some really good at bats in this game there's been a lot to like with how they're approaching their chances at the play it looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early get him out of the game before he settles in so I'd say mission accomplished 20 [Applause] late that time and it's strike two two balls two strikes goes down looking stepping up for the Guardians Brian roia [Applause] and first off ring is fouled off one down base is empty in there for a strike at the top of the [Applause] Zone inside gets out of the way gets a piece and stays alive foul ball makes it at one and two and another ball well this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the adad I'm sure there's sometimes where pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter righty delivers and it's Ball Four he missed down low it's tough after falling behind a hitter two balls and no strikes but now at least he gets a fresh start against a new batter but he needs to get back into the strike zone and start pitching with conviction now this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here try to close that Gap but you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first it feels like it's really important to getting back into this ball game pickoff Throw and he's back in safely base runner with a oneway lead right there all he's trying to do is get a look at the pitcher's move had no intent of stealing on that pitch and here it comes on the ground the second might be two good feed that's one now the first and it's a double play sometimes double plays get turned so quickly that you don't really get to appreciate all of the finer details and how these guys execute them right there really nice footwork and a good feed to Second was the key to pulling it off Perez in the Box again takes a [Applause] Hunter R the pitch strike one I really like how he's been attacking hitters early in at bats he's thrown strikes on the first pitch to over 70% of the guys he's faced in this one k sand swinging a miss that one in the dirt in time to get him one away in the strike out I got to think that was the plan all the way he set him up a high fast and then bury that curveball down low and get him swinging now especially with how effective pitchers work up in the zone these days that's a devastating combination and next up for the Royals Michael Massie that one in there across the [Applause] letters and there's a foul [Applause] ball drilled out towards left center field that's well struck and one hops Off the Wall should be extra faces safely into second he's got a double man those are the types of hits where you don't feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever such a good feeling nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly and it's second with one away Freddy fine digs in now swings through that one for strike one and the righty deals that one off the bad part of the bat just a Lazy Fly ball and that'll fall for a base hit stop sign goes up at third Runners at the corners with one out I don't think that pitch would have been called to strike but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock two on with one out drone Blanco the next to hit right through there for a strike in this situation the Batters got to know what the pitcher is trying to do to him and that's trying to get him to hit the ball on the ground get two for one you got to look for something up in the zone at worst case scenario you deliver the sacrifice fly the Royals trying to get back into this one here in the top half of inning number seven [Applause] [Applause] the2 and misses [Applause] inside that one down the line and foul ball [Applause] picks up strike out number seven and Chris that's a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base and the defense breathes a sigh relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play but that's how you do it keep he's not a big strikeout guy tries to force weak contact so commanded execution for him so now here's the DH will Brenan Outfield playing pretty shallow the pitch ball one there he's a bullpen arm that keeps the ball in the ballpark but obviously out of the bullpen you're looking to limit home runs yeah and that's why he's such a high leverage arm just doesn't matter for him he looks at attacking the zone and attacking hitters regardless of the situation activity in the Kansas City Bullpen onel Serpa the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose Smith also [Applause] throwing and a pitch swing and a miss chased it out of the Zone one ball two strength [Applause] swings and misses struck him out thought it was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we're seeing more most B is empty one away here the bottom half of the eighth inning next offering misses and a count even one and one well he gets the balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there are certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they've got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away one pitch over the years and that you see it extremely well the problem is the velocity at spin rate just happens to JP by you you expand your Zone you don't stay tall on the back side and you're really
