NFL Week 1 Power Rankings

football is [Music] [Applause] back gry py Packer Nation welcome to episode of pcast and podcast where you don't how you Packers fan but it sure does help I'm your host Tom totally caught that pen gry and today For The First Time in Forever Perfect Pitch we are going to be breaking down the top 10 teams heading into week one of the 2024 2025 NFL season and it just feels so good to be doing this again the last time that we did Power Rankings was right after the draft since then there's been some shakeups in the power rankings in the top 10 I do have some honorable mentions that we're going to start with and so starting off with some honorable mentions you got the Cincinnati Bengals the Bengals uh I'm I'm decently high on the Bengals I know in my division predictions I had them with a pretty low floor but their ceiling was pretty high as well and a lot of that is dependent on two things one Joe burrow is healthy so automatically the Bengals should be a good football team because Joo is a good football player hot take I know I'm so brave for saying it but right now the concerns that I have with the Cincinnati Bengals are two things and it's not even protection because they did address o line I'm very happy with that it's their run game which they were terrible at last year there's no more Joe Mixon and I don't know if it's going to be that good this year and the other thing I'm concerned about is their secondary their secondary was pretty awful last year they were definitely missing Jesse Bates and while they did address this it is just a little bit of a concern and for me it was just a little bit too much for me to put them in the top 10 heading into week one which is why they're an honorable mention then for the second honorable mention you got the Cleveland Browns that's right we got two teams from the AFC North the Cleveland Browns I think everybody confirms that they're going to have a pretty damn good defense however where there are some question marks are on the offensive side of the ball of course Nick chub he is going to be starting off on the pup list he's not going to be playing for at least some time but the bigger question is Deshawn Watson they went and got Jerry Judy they already have Amari Cooper I love the weapons that they have their offensive line is good but I just don't trust deshaan Watson yet because we just haven't seen him play a really good game yeah he had a pretty good record as a starter with Cleveland last year when he was healthy but one he has to remain healthy and two I don't think there was anything spectacular about his play but all that being said they're still going to win football games this year because of their defense and if Nick chub comes back and is healthy oh they're going to be good so if deshun Watson can show those flashes of the kind of QB that he was the Browns will be good if not then they'll just be good in spite of him and then finally my third honor will mention you got the Miami Dolphins the Dolphins they just extended Mike McDaniel which I think is a great move I was concerned that he was a little bit on the hot seat they did extend Tua as well and now this is your future Miami can you go out and win their offense should be incredible aan back yes let's go and while o line can always be improved their defense is just where they are unproven now we know that they could just outscore just about any single opponent until December rolls around because then they forget how to play football but the Dolphins for me I just want to see what they look like week one before putting them in the top 10 right now but I'm sure they will find their way up there sooner rather than later so let's start off with number 10 you got the Dallas Cowboys who in the hell does he think he is who does he think he is I know I know Cowboys fans you're lucky I put you on this list but I had to be realistic and here's where I'm viewing the Dallas Cowboys the Cowboys had a great regular season last year secured the second seed got that home game they play so well at home their defense real good last year their offense real good last year and a whole lot of CD lamb this year the running back situation not ideal CD lamb did get extended which was a big piece that they were missing and causing some stress this past off season and their defense I still think will be pretty damn good the problem I have with the Cowboys is is that I don't think it matters for the regular season because they haven't proved that they can win in the playoffs yet and me thinking about that I realized hey you know what that's some bias right there and that wouldn't be reflective of the top 10 because I do think the Cowboys will be a top 10 team it's just you know that postseason where it gives them some hiccups and so because of that I got to be realistic their defense is looking good their offense while I don't believe in their running game should be firing with Dak and CD lamb and so because of that they go to number 10 they got a game with the Browns week one which is going to be a very challenging game and if they're defense can show up then they're going to be climbing the top 10 number nine you got the New Jersey jets the Jets I know I had a lot of bills fans saying Tom you're too high on the Jets I had a lot of dolphins fans saying you're too high on the Jets I heard Jets fans saying why do you have faith in us and that is very very fair but I'm trying to be realistic looking at this Jets team you look at their defense not really many problems there you look at their offense that offensive line which they did invest in this past off season that looks to at least have improved Bree Hall is going to be really good Garrett Wilson doesn't matter who's throwing the ball he's going to be really good and then there's Aaron Rogers and I have it on good authority that he asked his higher Consciousness if the Jets were going to win a Super Bowl this year don't count on it a sorry Jets fans but really looking at Aaron roders the last time that he played a full season he was with the Packers he had a broken thumb after an early game with the Giants and still played the rest of the year and was still a pretty good quarterback was he Elite no is he coming off a major injury yes even though he was ready you know in November apparently the point that I'm trying to make is that that team was still able to win games with Zach Wilson if Aaron roders comes in and is just a good to above average Quarterback they have enough of a support system that they will win games Nathaniel Hackett regardless of what you believe about him he works well with Aaron roggers you saw this in Green Bay Aaron Rogers got all his people around him and hey it better work out this year because if the Jets don't make the playoffs and go decently far heads are going to roll in New Jersey so I do think the Jets have enough of a support system that their team is going to be really good you put it in Aaron roders and he can Elevate them to potentially be a great team but they got to survive Monday Night Football first so we'll take it one week at a time number eight you'll be happy about this Bills fans you got the Buffalo Bills and you might be wondering whoa wait D putting the bills at number eight but you haven't been so high on the bills this offseason that is correct however Josh Allen Josh Allen still a really good quarterback Dalton cancade I think regardless of what the wide receiver situation is he's going to get a whole lot of receptions their run game was really solid last year and their defense even though they lost Matt Milano they lost Matt Milano last year and they still wound up being okay they lost a lot of veterans this past off season and I still see this as kind of like a Reload rebuild season but with Josh Allen that could be expedited pretty quickly Keon Coleman Curtis Samuel I love that we'll see if khil Shakir can be a top wide receiver as well overall though I think the bills are still in pretty good shape I think there will be a very competitive football team and just because there's the unknown of Aaron Rogers and we just haven't seen him yet and there's that stability of Josh Allen I'm trusting that a little bit which is why I'm picking the bills at number eight and buffalo yeah I just hope the script writer is a little bit more fair to you this year stay thy hand Fair prince who said I'm Fair number seven you got the Green Bay motherloving Packers the Packers somehow have gotten a franchise quarterback once again somehow Palpatine returned and it feels so good Jordan love after last season his first full year as a starter the Packers said yep and gave him all of the money A lot of people are looking at this saying hey this is potentially risky I get it it definitely is going to have some risk attached to it but it's what they've done with other positions that makes me really excited for this team and pretty high on the Packers Josh Jacobs who had a banged up season last year running behind a bad o line and also was injured coming in healthy this season and behind a better offensive line when it comes to running the football so that's a big plus they went and got Marshon Lloyd in the draft he's healthy this week I'm excited to see what the rookie going to do on top of that wide receivers a plenty which gu going to be wide receiver one who cares they all could be and it could just vary from week to week I'm really excited about this offense then you look on the defensive side of the ball no more Joe Barry they bring in Jeff Halley who has said everything right as a defensive coordinator everything as a Packers fan you would want to hear we still got to see it though and that's a big question mark they bring in Xavier mckin a premium free agent who is going to make that secondary look so much better Eric Stokes back from injury they go and get bulled in the draft there are a lot of things to be excited about with this Packers team because all this investment that the Packers have done over the past few years it's time for it to pay off and so if the offense can be just where they were last year which I think they're going to be better they're going to be a rocking football team if that defense can keep up of course we need to stop the run they are going to have their hands full with saquan Barkley on Friday night in Brazil and it will be a great challenge for that secondary to stop all of their receivers but yeah hopes are high in Green Bay and so am I wait but hopes are high in Green Bay and right now they're coming in at number seven number six you got not the Houston Texans I mean the STS the Texans lot of expectations after last year in which they turned it around real quick they swung for the fences in the draft going back-to-back picks with CJ strad and then with Will Anderson Jr and it paid off very very well they went and got Stefan Diggs in this off season and hell even if he's a wide receiver three I think it'll be just fine the defense I'm curious about that secondary I think could be sneaky good and the Texans just seem to me like a team that is going to be a lot of fun to watch and CJ strad he could be even more powerful than [Music] before because he has a Litany of weapons they kept dton scholz who's a great Target for him last year you got tank Dell Nico Collins that offense is looking stacked so I'm really excited to see the Texans in a young division where there's a lot of emerging quarterbacks right now the Texans for me are the best in that division they have the highest expectations to repeat what they did last year and yeah we'll see how high the Strouds can fly number five you got the Philadelphia Eagles the Eagles oh they uh they had a busy off season of course they're still trying to drag Jason Kelce out of retirement we're done when I say we're done you I just missed Jason Kelce so much but the Eagles let's talk about them they go and get saquan Barkley love that addition they got rid of DeAndre Swift he's with Chicago now saquan if healthy I think could have a massive year just like he was playing really well last year behind that Giants offensive line and you know how bad that is then you look at the defensive side of the ball that pass rush should be pretty damn good but that secondary was their major weak point last year they addressed it over and over again this off season they bring back CJ Gardner Johnson which I don't know is going to make a huge difference didn't really do a ton in Detroit but they go and get Mitchell they get Cooper Dee in the draft and there's going to be a lot of expectations for these young guys quick on top of that Nolan Smith we'll see what he's going to finally look like of course you have Jaylen Carter who had a good year last year and this Eagles team just looks like they're ready to compete they got rid of their garbage coordinators so things should be good now and if not well then we're going to start looking at Nick serani real quick but it's going to be a good challenge against the Packers on Friday night in Brazil it's a great way to kick off the NFC season and yeah the Eagles should be one of the best teams in the NFC and if not their fans will let them know number four you got the San Francisco 49ers they had a pretty hectic offseason of course you had the Brandon iuk drama which got resolved and he finally took that contract you had Ricky piol who unfortunately got shot thankfully is okay but he's going to be on the shelf for at least a little bit and oh yeah don't forget they have to pay Brock pury next year though I'm sure 49ers fans are trying not to think about that right now every morning when I wake up I say everything's going to be okay but I'm lying and listen the 49ers were the best team in the NFC last year they almost lost in the playoffs to both the Packers and the Lions eventually losing in the Super Bowl and I still think this team is going to be really damn competitive this year this roster is stacked it's just a matter of how long can they keep all the pieces together cuz it really feels like an All or Nothing year for the San Francisco 49ers with CMC with Debo Samuel with Brandon iuk Jawan Jennings they should be fine their offense is going going to put up plenty of points we'll see how the defense plays especially that secondary but they're also in a division which has a good amount of competition the Rams I think are going to be good this year the Seahawks are going to be competitive and the Cardinals should be a better football team than where they were last year so it is not going to be easy for the 49ers and again they have a major advantage because their roster is so stacked but 49ers fans I don't want to say it's now or never but the window it's it's just shutting a little bit and if you don't win I won't cry about it because you always beat my team in the playoffs so stop doing that you're at number four number three you got the Detroit Lions the Lions yeah they're uh just trying not to be reminded of the second half of that NFC Championship game last year you need that footage but the Lions heading into this year there's a ton to be excited about in the trenches on both sides of the ball they look great I'm going St he's a stud jir Gibbs banged up for a little bit but they got David Montgomery the running game should be fine and when Gibbs comes back it's going to be even better Jared gof got a big payday this past off season welld deserved has found a really nice Groove in this Lions offense the defense the biggest concern was their secondary they addressed in the offseason they went and drafted Arnold who I think could be really really good for them and if that defense is better there's not going to be many glaring weaknesses for the Detroit Lions now just like the 49ers I think their division got better yeah the Packers who beat beat them on Thanksgiving and they split the series last year we were robbed of an NFC championship match up between the two of them the Bears look to be improved and then the Vikings do exist and now expectations for the Lions have gone from hey they should win the division or they should win a playoff game to they should be contending for a Super Bowl and so it is going to be a very very fun season to see how the NFC North is going to work itself out especially if the Bears wind up being good but the Lions should be one of the top teams in the NFC they were a halfway from going to the Super Bowl and if they have it their way this year they'll lose to the Packers in the NFC championship game that's right you think I'm going to be your friend now nay nay you may take all of the players that I ever wanted in the draft looking at you Brian Branch but nay now it's War now it's competition the lions are good the Packers are good May the best team win but you're at number three number two you got the Baltimore Ravens the Ravens they were the best team in the league last year during the regular season and then they tried to match up with the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game I'm the sheriff around these parts okay it didn't work out for whatever reason they're like you know what let's just not run the ball you know the thing that has made us really really good all season it's fine losing both their running backs and JK Dobbins and Gus the bus Edwards they went over to LA with the Chargers the other Harbaugh however they brought in the king Derek Henry who who oh God he's going to be so much fun to watch in the AFC North and while Derrick Henry is definitely older I think he is going to be just fine if he could remain healthy and if Katon Mitchell comes back who I'm really excited to see that is going to be a dynamic duo then you look at Z flowers who of course had that fumble in the AFC Championship game I think he is set for a really big year mark Andrews coming back healthy is really exciting though I know he did get into a car accident but he should have a really good year Lamar Jackson coming fresh off an MVP campaign he's looking to have a good season and then you look over at the defense yes they lost Patrick Queen but they got ran Smith so really who cares they drafted Nate Wiggins which is a guy I was a huge fan of coming out of college and it just seems like this team is set up once again to be very very good they're in the AFC North so we know that they're all going to cannibalize one another and it's going to be awful and the Ravens I think are still going to be favored to win that division the thing is just like the Cowboys can they get it done in the postseason they took care of the Texans in the divisional round and then they couldn't get it done against the Chiefs and so Ravens fans I know there's high expectations you're looking at a Super Bowl again you just have to get past the big bad wolf which is the Kansas City Chiefs and finally no surprise here number one you got the Kansas City Chiefs who only won 11 games last year and everybody counted them out out am I yeah they didn't care they limped into the playoffs did it matter no they got their ass kicked on Christmas the Raiders ruined a child's Christmas didn't matter because they ruined everybody's year unless you're a Chiefs fan because they went on the road two out of three games knocked off the bills knocked off the Ravens and they went and took care of business in the Super Bowl and their defense was really good last year their defense this year probably still going to be pretty damn good their offense is probably going to be better because who did they get Carson steel who looked like a monster so yeah just give them another good running back that can just bulldo people looking at you Isaiah Pacho not only that they added some wide receiver options as well because those were missing greatly last year Travis Kelce another year is going to be very productive in that offense and they are kind of the opposite of the Ravens and the Cowboys in that it doesn't really matter what they do in the regular season as long as they make the playoffs which they will because they're in the AFC West they're going to potentially go to the Super Bowl so Chiefs fans yeah enjoy it 18 weeks don't matter to you as long as you get in you have a chance to win it it's fun so much fun and so just to recap there at number one you got the Chiefs two Ravens Three Lions four 49ers five eagles six Texans seven Packers eight bills nine Jets and 10
