hey how's it going there folks welcome back here to a Monday start of the work week for some some of us have that 3-day weekend here so congratulations if you are one of those uh Labor Day about 11:56 a.m. here California time September 2nd 2024 latest activity here on the globe shows some movement into the Alaska area also just offshore here of Oregon got a 4.2 earthquake coming in within the last hour it is out there in the blanco fracture zone now most of the time here during this uh activity we'll see increasing strain out here following any movement on this fracture Zone tends to apply strain out here on the southern end of the Cascadia subduction zone so we'll continue to watch that right right now though things are fairly quiet across this area in terms of earthquake Movement we have seen a uh we did see a little bit of trimmer activity here uh yesterday let me bring up uh yesterday's event got about looks like 438 epicenters of trimmer southern end here of the Cascadia also up here across the Northern end so we'll continue to watch that area for some uh potential movement right a little bit of activity out there in the fracture Zone today uh Southern California got a handful of smaller Quakes down here as well far as 2.5 and above looks like uh 2.9 and another 2.9 here roughly uh interesting there two earthquakes stacked on top of each other here off the coast of Long Beach a little uncertain on which fault system this occurred on maybe an unnamed fall but it's out there in the San Pedro Channel area fairly shallow earthquake activity 2.9 and a 2.9 within a couple hours of each other this morning uh another 2.9 looks like up North this earthquake here from yesterday in the B Bakersfield area although uh looks like for the most part things are calming down around this area other regions around the area uh are seeing some uptick in terms of the multitude of microquakes out here ridgerest being one of them of course got the activity offshore here of Long Beach there was another little tiny Quake here as well just after midnight uh and then some further activity along the San hinto fault Zone with a couple smaller Earth Quakes out here on the southern branch of the San Andreas fault so we've been kind of watching this here closely because of all the increasing movement out here in general in this broad area of Southern California so we'll keep an eye on it we'll continue to keep an eye on it Nevada area still seeing some earthquakes out here across the Goldfield uh Goldfield Hills as well a lot of this activity from today quite a few ones out there that's going to bring the multitude of quakes well over two well let's zoom in here about 195 earthquakes in this area in the last week alone of various magnitudes you can see that uh fault fracture out here uh as those earthquakes follow it couple other earthquakes in the area as well nothing big just an overall sign of increasing strain out here uh there has been increasing stra strain for quite a while out here along the southern branch of the San Andreas fault another 1.4 coming in as we speak on the Garlock Vault Shear Zone further out and about uh Montana a couple smaller earthquakes there from uh today and yesterday it looks like a 2.6 from just after midnight Yellowstone National Park nothing showing up there on the map let's just double check see what we have uh going to be right here and there is not a whole lot there's the uh looks like the 2.6 over here the one up in Montana I believe that's it a couple other smaller earthquakes here as well overnight but those are very small extremely small and they probably won't add them up here on the list until uh tomorrow morning once the office opens there at the USGS and they look at some of the earthquakes that occurred over the weekend rest of the country pretty quiet out there let's see what we got going on in Hawaii got a little bit of stretching going on here towards the Lower East Rift Zone that's where the latest earthquake is 2.6 it's uh about a mile and a half below the surface here of this area let's give a quick glance of the uh deformation charts here today across the big island where we're still watching elevated activity take place below the surface in terms of inflation little bit of up and down here but really no um no solid movement here uh in the past week it looks like in terms of uh uh deflation inflation or uh also we got uh uh yeah a magma intrusion potential as well but it's just been uh stationary not a whole lot happening out here across the area I mean it's obviously it's active below the subsurface areas here there's quite a bit of volume of magma there's just not enough though to uh kickart the uh eruption out here earthquake activity a little bit more uh than what the USGS is showing there on the map you know there's probably a good 30 or 40 earthquakes here on that seismograph station just in the last 12 hours but if you look here at the USGS map shows about 22 earthquakes in the last 24 hours so uh you know there's a little bit more earthquake activity in here that's not being put up on the map could just be uh how it is set up for the weekend maybe only 2.0 and above is showing out here uh but it's hard to say either way way elevated earthquake activity out here a little bit of migration to the um from the Middle East Rift Zone looks like it might want to stretch down here a little bit further towards the Lower East Rift Zone we'll continue to watch that um let's see here some activity out into the uh South America area of course that's expected I mentioned this last night 5.3 earthquake out here in the uh fracture zone that does add strain out here against the subduction zone level itself of the prilly trench right you got the uh NASA plate that is subducting underneath the South America plate here where Chile and Peru exists and of course it's a major subduction zone and it doesn't take hundreds of years for strain to build up out here but you get earthquake activity out here where we're seeing that movement yesterday that 5.3 that adds further strain where the arrows are pointing and that's exactly where we're seeing the elevated earthquake activity here following that 5 three looks like some Forest Stern up there into the deeper regions of the Peru chili trench definitely noticeable up here on the map uh Puerto Rico Area Middle America trench uh they're seeing their own amount of earthquake activity Puerto Rico's definitely been on the uptick here recently uh and all that uptick is following movement out here across the middle America trench where we've seen that six pointer here recently this general area uh is a subduction zone here as well Middle America trench uh that adds strain on this little Caribbean plate so no surprise to see some elevated activity here recently following the larger scale movement there off the coast of the um I was the uh San Salvador area El Salvador where they seen that six-pointer here a couple days back strain being applied here uh and those earthquakes there mostly threes out there nothing big for now this area is very capable of producing some large scale earthquakes let's see Alaska way up here kind of zigzagging all over the place here today couple ones really nothing big though 2.5 and above brings down pretty much all of the earthquakes aside from a couple twos there uh one from yesterday one from t uh today in the Anchorage area uh New Zealand a little bit of rock and rolling going on down there 3.5 goodness the USGS is showing a 3.5 here on the map normally it's going to be 4.0 or 4.5 and above but hey we'll take it I would love to have the international option here of including 2.5 and above uh for this area kind of like an all-in-one here but they sporadically will show International earthquakes there below the 4.0 threshold so I guess just whenever they feel like it uh 3.5 couple other threes in there as well we're missing the earthquake from yesterday right there there we go had to bring down the time stamp here because of all the uh the earthquakes there in Hawaii and in general you know a couple different swarms here in California Puerto Rico so occasionally you have to adjust that to account for all the extra earthquakes here on the globe and it's been active definitely but this area today fairly quiet not seen a whole lot of movement there today in the uh uh the Papa New Guinea area couple other Earth Quakes out here around Taiwan Southward overnight really uh nothing big just a slight uptick in the four range it looks like latest one shows a 5.0 over here around Taiwan uh this is that area that's seen a whole bunch of swarming here earlier this year and an occasional four or five pops up here from time to time here's a 4.6 92 miles deep here now this area alone is a major subduction zone and can create some bigger Quakes and I'm I'm starting to wonder if maybe all that other earthquake activity we've seen this year back over here is um putting the big time strain on this subduction zone here and this isn't the one that the uh the Japanese folks are talking about uh um you know the government there uh issuing a mega Quake warning a warning Mega quick warning it's not for this area it's actually for this subduction zone right here but uh I think with all the recent earthquake activity we should watch a couple of these zones here the Northwestern edge here of the uh Filipino plate is a big producer of some Mega Quakes out there so we'll keep an eye on that that's a fairly deep earthquake into this area all right uh rest of the model out here 3.7 around the uh oh is that the Caspian Sea out there uh looks like over here in this region this is 4.5 from yesterday Afghanistan but there's a newer Quake popping up here it looks like around that region couple threes some twos and threes scattered out about the rest of the plate boundary now this is the emsc model showing some of this earthquake activity on the globe it's combination of USGS and the uh world uh last 50 earthquakes from the emsc that's why we're able to see a little bit more uh earthquake activity in numerous regions around the globe uh let's see what else we got yeah so just uh some interesting activity offshore Oregon area seen a lot of trimmer here recently did you guys see the the trimmer map account that we did last night let's see what we got here elevated trimmer began roughly on the 8th or 9th of this month so there's about a week here of not a whole lot of numbers here but we'll just double check see what we got it's a fairly impressive number 300 well 13, 419 epicenters of trimmer uh mainly up here across the Northern end of the Cascadia abduction Zone and a bunch down here south as well so uh things are stirring up out here we haven't seen this type of trimmer event since about 200 uh well the multitude of Quake of trimmers compared able back to 2022 uh we seen some earlier this year back in May and June but uh this amount of trimmer activity we've seen in the last 30 days is surpassing uh the amount that we've seen back in uh June of this year and also through the entire year of uh of 2023 we only seen a little bit of periodic trimmer activity uh last year but uh yeah continue to keep an eye on it right this is a major subduction zone itself out here nobody knows when this will hit in terms of the 9.0 or greater out here it's been 324 years depends on who you ask though but uh it could be anywhere between 250 to 500e intervals of earthquakes in terms of the full unzip of the Cascadia we also got the concern of a partial unzip right a couple different segments here more newly recognized as a particular potential segment here across the Seattle area just west of Seattle uh that can segment uh or that can rupture here during this segment or in this segment partial rupture so there's many different options here uh that we could see as we head into the future I don't I don't know if we're going to see a full rupture but you never know either way lot of trimmer here recently adding further strain up at the Cascadia locked area weather movement well it looks like another inflare here earlier this morning we do have a super active region coming around the Southeastern limb uh over here in fact this area uh is a culprit of a very large M flare with a subsequent large CME explosion here recently that was directed away from the earth but now that area is starting to come back into view uh a little bit more Earth directed we're getting a proton event right now uh that is probably due from the flaring activity here recently so that's going to be an area to watch Pretty closely here it is not named uh it's going to be this area down here this is a separate Sunspot core but this area shows a lot of lot of intermixing of the colors here also this Region's grown overnight looks like so a couple different areas our flare threat is increasing 25% chance for xflare inflare 7 seare around 99% chance or so and we'll watch these sunspots as they uh continue to evolve no major Roars in the forecast there for now folks severe weather out here for the states not a whole lot maybe a little bit of marginal risk out here across Oregon and Idaho literally no tornado threat wind uh looks like maybe just a little bit wind threat today but that's about it aside from that General thunderstorm activity out there in the various regions but severe weather is kept to a minimum today hope everyone gets out and uh gets a chance to enjoy the day off here if they have it off we'll catch you guys back out here a little bit later on this evening folks for the uh Monday night update take care and stay safe out there
