NOTTINGHAM FOREST V NEWCASTLE UNITED | OPPOSITION VERDICT AND PREDICTED TEAM FOR CARABAO CUP TIE

[Music] [Applause] hello everyone for Focus as we cast aside The Madness of the transfer window and focus on the carabar cup is not going for take on Newcastle tomorrow night joining me to discuss the game from the visitor's point of view is Newcastle fan and friend of the show I guess we can say now he's been on enough times in Rob SM Rob good to have you back with us how are you yeah good thanks about yourself I'm better than you I mean we should explain your lighting to be honest because it's a bit horror movie but there is a reason so I'm you have to explain to viewers yes so sorry for the strange lighting effects I'm currently in a hotel room in Southampton after horror Journey down so this is why you've got some kind of lza said to mat just before we start to like something out of a strange' 80s ITV Thriller but uh no unfortunately it's the best we could do on short notice so no it's good you to do it we're packing it in this week with loads of content anyway so we'll just do an abbreviated match preview and then when we play Newcastle in the league we'll speak in more depth to Rob but just uh in general the season so far the couple of games you've had I know you've got four points on the boards we were chatting a bit before we started recording it hasn't been overly pretty has it for Newcastle thus far no I think the best way to describe my bit is it's almost kind of like the club's in a bit like it's stalled um in terms of both off the pitch and on the pitch and that's been echoed in performance I think a lot of people thought we were going to come out the traps really hungry really far in with the likes of Joe Linton back after an injury last season Nick pob back but the the performances have been sluggish not really front foot football and like I say the best thing that you can say out of it is they've got four points out of six because of on on reality I don't think that they've deserved it but they've got four points out of six and hopefully bit of movement in the transfer market this week and a bit of a more positive performances might Kickstart the season but you know for Forest fans looking ahead of the game I think they should be quite optimistic because it's not a ruthless or an aggressive Newcastle com and it's quite a timid and stalled one at the moment talk about a little bit more about the Bournemouth game specifically because that's an away game because we've seen Bournemouth and we know like I think they're a decent side and they'll do perfectly well this season I watched about 45 minutes of the game I thought Newcastle were pretty poor what did you make of it yeah first half especially we were to the races second half a bit better LED to an equalized of our Anthony Gordon but really sluggish no legs in Midfield even the lights of eak up front looked like they were running with like a fridge on the back I think somebody described it on social media and it just they just couldn't get out of first gear and it's really carried on what happened at the back end of well the whole of last season really where they had horrendous away form couldn't really not only get a win or a draw away from home but they couldn't even put in a performance and that was what was most worrying against Bournemouth is that they didn't really have to come out of second gear to really take it to us and although that the performance improved in the second half with some substitutions it still didn't offer much food for thought for Newcastle fans and again if I was a forest fan watching this it would it would fill me with optimism head of the carabar cup game because although probably both sides will ring the changes um our away form is is still not spectacular and that's linked with poor performances as well so um I think it could be an interesting game but I couldn't I couldn't really judge a result it's more of a flip of a coin at the minutt I think yeah we'll get into that a bit more shortly just on the carabal cup in general and the cups there's always a thing with Newcastle you've not won a trophy for so long you've got the owners you've got the ambition is there extra emphasis on the carabo cup compared to maybe other clubs where you think that'll probably means that how has to pick a stronger team than he might want to yeah I think it's definitely for me personally as a fan there's a lot of in calling sent I understand why that people and fans are saying we need to get back into the champions league but I want that silver everywhere I want that monkey or a far back I I'd actually in my lifetime like to see them actually achieve something tangible and lift a cup and go on a trophy parade so the carabal cup we got to the final a couple of seasons ago when we're really disappointed against Manchester United for me personally it's our biggest chance to win a cup the FA Cup the other teams always put more emphasis on it so I think if we could have a good run in this again I see there's no reason why we could get to the final but again it's a really tough Cup draw Forest away in only the you know the first round that we're allowed to be in and I I really hope we put in a strong performance because I think the cut runs are really important but again it's that really kind of emphasis between what do the owners want what does the manager want and what do the fans want and at the minute I think there's competing Valu I think the club needs to get back into Europe preferably the Champions League from a financial point of view but from a fans point of view while those glamin nights last season against the lights of Paris sjain were fantastic what have we actually got to show from it nothing really and if we get that you know if if we get to other the liks of Bruno gimash and Alexander eak and anyhow will be heroes forever that's what I want to see I want that bit of silverware so I really hope we prioritize whether it's the carabar cup or the FA Cup what about um a predicted 11 then I think that's probably the biggest point of interest for Forest fans what what side going to rock up what if you if I was push you from 11 what would it be I think when you look at it from the outside I think um we'll definitely see a different goalkeeper we've now got five at the club including um the fellow we signed from you um we've been link we've been linked with another this week again trying to sign James Trafford from Burnley so but I think we'll have a change of goal I think the bravar playing goal trip here at right back I think across the I think the problem is we got a Dar of Center half so I think we'll probably see the liks of um Dan burn and EML craft play again and then at left back it's a tossup between Lewis hall or um and Kelly who sign from Bournemouth in the Midfield there's a potential that we might seen Sandro t after his um Bann for um gambling if finally comes to an end tomorrow so in time for the game potentially though I think he might start on the bench so we might see the likes of Bruno again Joe Linton and longstaff maybe long staff will be switched out for willick to give him some legs and then up front again we've got that same issue where we've we've got a couple we haven't really got another main Striker we signed willisa from Sheffield United is a third choice Striker so he may come in instead of eak up front but on the wings I think Gordon may play again and we might see Al Miron or Harvey Barnes play on the left hand side it's a strong team that it is a it is a really strong team but again a lot of them players that are coming in are either coming back from long-term injuries or are horrendously out of form like the lights Val Miron who on paper is a cracking player and I think would enhance any squad in the Premier League but again he's just not been able to hit the form recently no no Gordon's another one isn't he like obviously he's a class player and he's going to have a good season but is he is he a yard behind at the moment even though he scored in Bournemouth yeah I think you could see that in the Bournemouth game he just looks really leggy like he's three weeks behind in preseason tripier as well he came on trippier excuse me made some brilliant dead bber deliveries but you could just tell that he need he needs that extra 10 days I think now and while I you know really potentially they wouldn't really want to play them in the cup I think they just might have to just to ensure that they can keep that rotation going so the legs are fresh because before we've got Spurs on Sunday Very quickly which is a a a game that they need to put in a good performance with so it's a real tricky Balancing Act for how and his team but um like you say I think both sides can still put out strong second 11s and it could be I think it's going to be a really entertaining game actually uh just probably ask Rob about a couple more players uh obviously the next game was discussing Newcastle after that on Saturday it's Wolves at home straight after the game the races and gig uh warm up for the real Oasis with the best possible tribute a FR that the have pretty much stra after final whistle three loads of food available loads of peers available so should be a good evening uh how's the deals gone down with Anderson and vodeos up on you up in the you know the Northeast that well I think I think everyone understands what they got what the um goalkeeper deal was it was a sweetener to get the Anderson deal over the line which um I think Craig Hope who's the Northeast correspondent for the daily ho Daily Mail put it quite correctly said the reason they spent five between five and 15 million pound who we whatever the fee was for him was to save himself a 10-point deduction to get the other other deal over the line so there's already been talk about him potentially being loaned out I think at the minute he's third choice maybe even third fourth choice behind John Ry which is alarming with the amount money that's been spent on him but I think in the modern world we all have to take a tinted Rose tinted glasses off and see what the deal was for Anderson although he wouldn't have been a starter and he would have been a squad player like when I spoke to you about it when the transfer was rumored to be going through I just think it's a disappointing thing that homegrown talent's not there and he not it's not an option for us um I hope he does really well just not not not in the games against Newcastle obviously and and there's no reason for me to see if over the next five to 10 years that it becomes a solid Premier League player hopefully with forest and um it's just a shame that Financial fair play PSR whatever you want to call it made all nearly every Club in the Premier League have to make one of these silly transfers which are for the benefit of nobody and actually probably messes around a lot with the players if you're being honest yeah I think so I think so and Anderson has done well for us thus far got high hopes for him certainly um how are you viewing Forest I know you watch a fair bit of them um you worried about this one you see things be tight what what worries you about Forest I just I just think they've got they seem to be have started a lot quicker out of the blocks the Newcastle I think they just seem a bit ahead of us um I think they've they've made some solid record there's there's you know some potential rumors about other signings that look really good on paper they've got a good solid manager as well and I just think they they've evolved every season that they've been in the Premier League and now they look like like we were just talking about Bournemouth at the start of the thing for me already I think they've achieved that status of looking looking on paper and backing it up with performances of being a solid Premier League team which is fantastic for the Midlands and I think it's fantastic for Forest not fantastic for us tomorrow I think it might result and has been knocked out of the cup but I think it's a really promising start for Forest fans and it get a couple more additions over the line I think the one area you know you'll know more than me but looking from the outside in is probably that Center forward position just needs strengthening which I know they're trying to do and if they could do that I think there's no reason where they could have a finish between eighth and 12th this season and maybe have a good cut run yeah I think so I think I think when you I think when you look at other sides in the Premier League I think when you get below eighth and to about 17th there is a lot of similarities between teams and I think there's no reason with some good runs and some good um signings that there is um a chance for them to um there's a chance for them to I like I say top 10 why not excellent excellent right just a mini preview like I
