NMB Chiefs Host Goose Creek

is all chiefs fans excited for the season Landon claer will set the offense this year from the quarterback position and he has a lot of talent around him at the skill positions when he's looking to pass Landon will look to wide out weapons Kaden Gore Anderson white and Andrew krier but then he will also have a very reliable and sure-handed tight end in brown Reeves that has a knock for finding holes in the defense as far as the running game goes that room as deep as well with senior Steven verine and Drew Prince and Junior jaquel Davis leading the way Steven ended the 2023 season hampered by injuries and Drew suffered a broken leg that cut his Junior season short so those two seniors are just itching to get back onto the field tonight protecting the skilled players are the big guys in the trenches and the Chiefs have looked very good so far in preseason scrimmages the group of Colton Turner sa your AIT Hampton Kingsford Jakari Witherspoon and zamir Vine are ready to open holes and also protect their qb1 on the defensive side of the ball the man to watch will be defensive end DJ Galls he has already committed to play collegiately at Lenor Ryan college and the word is that he is a dog that is dawg dog meaning you may not want to get in the way of this 6' 215 lb frame of muscle you will also hear us call the names of Sloan McIntyre and Lamonte Smith quite a bit tonight as those nnb linebackers will be needed to fill the gaps to stop the Goose Creek running game when Goose Creek looks to pass North Myrtle Beach has a talented Trio in the back Campbell Kingston brycey Gore and tenner patella who will look to slow the passing game of the Gators well now that you've heard about the Chiefs aw ing them is Gator running back Malik mcgaan without even seeing this young man on the field one look at his stats from his sophomore season and that will tell you that this dude can flat out play Malik was selected All State named region 6 5A Player of the Year ran for nearly 2,000 yards and scored 16 touchdowns and that was as a sophomore he is obviously not alone as he has joined in the back field by fellow Junior quarterback kamman Clary who also has some very talented receivers to toss the ball around to folks that is where the story of this game will lie it is obvious by the numbers that not many people stop Malik mcgaan the question is can the chief's defense step up to slow him down enough to force other Goose Creek players to play bigger roles it is going to be an exciting one and we are here to call all of the action I am Wayne White and I will that little technical issues here for game one pregame adjustment that's every everything it's like I told I I just told will mcmanis he's our board op I said you know he said everything sounds great well it all sounds great until it's night yeah yep kind of like kind of like last Monday night our first Tom OFA talk we were sitting here everything was going great it was going great until somebody sent me a text message and then it wasn't going so great so uh anyway keep getting text sounds like everything's good for the station so that's good and I'm going to quit worrying about text messages now and in this segment we're going to talk about Chiefs Athletics um obviously we are here for game one of the 2024 Season north Myrtle Beach Chiefs here at home at the Hank hosting Goose Creek never played Goose Creek out of Goose Creek South Carolina down in the Low Country around Charleston area it's right down the road from Charleston Southern uh University in uh the North charlon Area I guess it's technically Berkeley County so but other than and this game kicking off tonight we've already had a couple of other athletic events going on around North Myrtle Beach we had backto back days the girls golf team earned consecutive victories this week so great start for the golf team for the lady Chiefs and right now the number one ranked in the state of South Carolina we were number one in 4A last year you know we were talking about the differences when moving to 4 a and 5A and we'll get into that a little bit more but uh last year the volleyball team was ranked number one in the state in 4A but they were also the number one overall ranked team no matter classification in the state of South Carolina so moving up to 5A hasn't changed anything we're still the top ranked team in the state the lady Chiefs are hosting the uh Battle of the border and right now in fact they are playing Marvin Ridge who I think you said's up around the Charlotte area I believe they're somewhere near there I know we used to go to Camp up at Charlotte and we used to always play them when we were up there but I'm guessing well we'll go with that and somebody will send me a text message if we wrong but yeah somebody will probably Google it and tell us we're wrong but uh the lady Chiefs again playing right now we'll get that score at some point we will pass that along to you but if you are in the area and you want to see some great volleyball the lady Chiefs will continue in day two tomorrow uh at 8:00 a.m. so get you some donuts and coffee come on out 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning then at 11:45 and then in the afternoon there's two different pools so they'll go into pool play for the championship another thing about the volleyball is if you've been around North Myrtle Beach for a while uh there was Erica Alman y when she was a student and then uh married coach Harden she became well I was going to say she became Erica Harden then she became coach Harden but uh coached here volleyball uh they moved away she is now the head coach at Lexington they are going to play a little later tonight and then tomorrow they're actually playing games at 9:15 and 1145 so for you uh for you old school cheese fans you can catch uh North Myrtle Beach the current North Myrtle Beach at 8:00 and then uh Erica is uh playing at 9 their her team Lexington will play at 9:15 tomorrow folks we're going to Image editing class often helping her classmates she is a positive force in the classroom Laney will always put herself out there and help anyone in Need Not only was she a key member of the yearbook staff for all of 2023 24 but she was also part of starting and organizing the chief Outpost as she designed the space she was also available to share opinions during the summer and help take pictures at last week's meet the Chiefs night when asked Laney is the very definition of a true student leader congratulations to Laney Mishu this week's winner of the du's NMB Chiefs leadership award stay construction broadcast Booth where we welcome in head coach Greg Hill for this week's Flynn's Irish Tavern coaches interview coach coming off of the uh CNB classic from last week looked pretty good there talk a little bit about I guess just the Classic overall and you know obviously getting out in front of a lot of people but but also your last tuneup before game one yes it's it's a great event um you know you get a chance to go on a college uh College facility a lot of these kids won't be able to play on um after they leave High School um also you know it's game situation uh we're playing a half and it just kind of gets you in tune to what's getting ready to come down on Friday nights but uh I think it's a great event and we we enjoy being there being a part of it well looking at this year's team uh what's the won't really say excitement level because as a head coach you kind of have to stay even kill but at the same time got to be a little bit more excited when you turn around you see 28 seniors on your roster yeah I mean absolutely I mean we've got um you know we're we're definitely senior heavy on our offense um we expect them to to conduct themselves that way and make plays um and uh just uh you know get the offense going in the right direction uh we've got a good you know good quarterback that's been with us for three years now he knows the system he's going to have a lot of freedom U through our offensive coordinator and uh we just got I feel like a more experienced team we know what to expect and our kids are they're ready to perform well been talking about that offense you just talked about uh about Landon but you know tight end Brown Reeves your uh Kaden Gore Anderson white Andrew crrider uh your wide receivers uh the thing that I was probably because those guys you kind of expect but the thing that I was most uh pleased with surprised from my end maybe not yours but uh during the scrimmages was what was in the running back room yeah I mean I you know it's um it's it's nice you know we like I said you said we we've got a really good receiving core um our running back room has really really gotten better uh we've got four guys that we feel very confident about and um I I say our top three are really pushing each other and we're getting better every day so you know it's always good when you got a stable of running back as much punishment as those guys take you know well and when you look at that you know Drew Prince had the had the leg injury last year where he ended up missing pretty much the last half of the season and uh Steven Vine was hobbled those last four games so those guys coming back as seniors you know they they're they're just itching to get back out there oh yeah I mean Drew Drew's gone through a lot he's gone through a lot that was a you know I don't think people really understand how devastating that injury was and um he's for he's fortunate I think to be continue to play football and he's done everything he's been asked to do so he's had a long road recovery Steven's looking for um a great year his senior year and um and they're pulling along to other guys that we've got in that room as well so I'm excited about what they do this year Well flipping over to the defensive side of the ball not quite as experienced as far as as many seniors over there but uh a lot of Heavy Hitters uh led by defensive end DJ GS yeah DJ I tell you he's come a long way since last year um he's got he's got gotten better as a teammate he's gotten better as a leader there's no doubt about it and uh he is he's a ball player he is a football player and I think he'll I think he'll lead that defense this year we be a little you know be a little light in the middle there uh Lineback and cores back um three of our DBS are back um and you know anytime you're having to move some kids around in positions they're not accustomed to um they might be a senior but they're learning new new areas on the field but I feel good I do I feel good about our our our defense and our opportunities and I think our kids are ready to play taking a look at the other side of the ball or the the opponent tonight and we were talking about uh DJ and obviously the other guys there along the defensive line and then U Sloan and Lamonte at linebackers it's going to be very important those guys all fill in gaps tonight with Malik mwan and he's a he's a guy I said it and I my pregame is that uh you don't you don't have to see him play to know that you know 2,000 yards is a sophomore and 16 touchdowns that ain't bad he's a ball player he's got good Vision U Cuts well shoulder pad Square um runs with low pad level um Breakaway speed I mean he's a he's an overall back and they do a really good job what they do with their with their Zone scheme with him allow him to be athletic so we've got to make sure that we cover gaps fit gaps make sure we tackle extremely well um and then on the other flip side of that is they spread you out horizont finally I mean like massively across the across the field and they try to get one-on-one matchups and get the ball down the field you know the quarterback throws the ball very well number 13 uh His Name Escapes me but um he's he's uh he's a dude now he' go get the ball so we've got to work cut out for some defense but I think our kids are are ready for the challenge well and like you just said on that on their side of the ball what they do their their running game opens up that passing game and it's kind of what we were talking about everybody's looking at our passing game then all of a sudden we get that running game going and uh opens it up for both absolutely I mean you get you know you know if you're a defensive coach if you can take one thing away and make somebody be onedimensional I mean you're probably going to be pretty dag on good defensively but you got a team that's you know that can run and pass and they do both of them equally well I mean they can provide some some issues I uh biggest thing is this we can stop the run with seven it gives us a great opportunity to be successful if we have to you know bring eight to the pox then there going to be some to talk all night long that's yeah yeah that's what we're going to do so that's what we're going to doal live as we go we're going to make the best of it we're going to make some stuff up um and in this uh in this stop set we're at the uh Rockefellers rollar starting lineups and then we're going to take a look at the RW Woods Grill area scoreboard but taking a look at the starting lineups we're going to talk about the North Myrtle Beach offense first we would have all 12 starters as seniors but unfortunately we only have 11 of those 12 as the one senior that is not going to be playing is Dylan Wilt he unfortunately went down with an injury uh in the first scrimmage that we had and uh we'll be out uh for a few weeks now uh fortunately wasn't any worse uh wasn't as bad as they first expected so uh we're going to have 11 of 12 senior starters for the Chiefs and taking a look we'll go across the line first center is going to be Colton Turner on his left side left tackle sawer aite left guard taking over for big red Dylan Wilt is Hampton Kingsford on the right side right guards Jakari Witherspoon right tackle is zamir Vin quarterback for the Chiefs Landon Clinger joining him in the back field at least we think to start because it has been a battle uh coaches going back and forth on who was going to start We Believe it'll be Steven Bine baren could be Drew Prince back there but there's a foreheaded monster at running back and they have really been battling in practice wide outs Kaden Gore Anderson white Andrew krier Talent talented threesome there and then tight end big brown Reeves um Jude we talked about this last year with brown the more he plays the more impressive he is he's a player that got better in every game last season I thought he uh definitely improved in every game and I think his relationship with Landon got better each game too because there towards the end of the season when Landon got in trouble you could always see him find Brown in the middle of everything and and hit him with that nice little dump off eight- yard Medi medium level pass that turned into some big plays for us hopefully that'll happen again tonight and and brown the longer he played the it seemed like the better his hands got definitely the better his route running got he would find a hole somewhere and be able to uh be able to like you said he was that check down guy yeah and um and did a great job as a sophomore too and now he's a junior coming back a lot more experiencei now oh man you got the stuff wrong I thought that I was like I think he's a senior I correct except for brown I just noticed that as well so that's my fault well either way I mean he's coming back in his senior year now he should have a lot more confidence this season where he didn't start off with the confidence that he he's probably developed a lot I know I saw him on your uh your walking with Wayne special the other night and and he seemed like he was ready to have a big senior year I tell you and and what Jude just said we'll go ahead and do a Shameless plug on Monday nights uh Jude hunt Max Smith and I are doing a video podcast Tomahawk talk and uh in that because I couldn't think of you know any better name so I do a a walking with Wayne segment uh and walked a 100 yards with uh five of the football players I just want y'all to know I mean I I thought it was pretty good they could only walk 20 yards at a time I walk the whole H yeah you you get all your steps in they just I mean they you know they were they were slacking off just 20 at a time but uh but no that was that was a lot of fun We've Got U I'll go ahead and tell you this coming Monday volleyball star Olivia B Morman a senior going to the University of Georgia uh she's going to be the uh the walking with Wayne interview this coming Monday and uh and that was that was fun uh is she going to do all 100 yards no we walked laps around the court okay okay see Jude that's a you know it's walking you never know where I'm going to end know where you going to walk you never know I told my kids you know that was like that when when I was when we were going on uh when we go on vacations that was their worst part is is that dad walked everywhere um so now we're going to take a look over at the uh defense and I will say uh okay we're getting reports the radio feed sounds a lot better so will just so you know that of course you said the same thing he's got our uh our stream pulled up he's not sure about commercials though so uh will when we get that far I'm going to throw it to you for commercials he's a man and and he he has gotten so much better from last year he's uh taken a huge leadership role he's going to Lenor Ryan uh you know so so looking for big things from DJ uh in the middle Kevin Jacobs and Nigel Vine linebackers they're going to be key in this game Sloan McIntyre Lamonte Smith on the corners Jamari Wilson and Jan Grace and then across the back talented group of safeties Campbell Kingston brycey Gore and Tanner patella I don't have all of the starters for Goose Creek I'm just going to say and we'll talk about him a lot m m you don't have to know that this kid can play when you see almost 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns as a sophomore and he's region player player of the year he's allate yep that's enough he can play so obviously that's going to be a key for the Chiefs but they also can't sleep on uh the of the players as you're going to hear from Ian Garen here in just a few minutes as he gives us the prep Red Zone opponent break now talk about real quick Wayne is as of this offensive line that Goose Creek is bringing into this thing based on our numbers is looking pretty stout I mean I'm looking at a 64 senior 335 lbs Kingston Hughes Dallas Lee 62 230 Xavier Johnson 6' 280 uh I mean these guys are big Trey Adams 510 250 some Big Boys yeah and all four of those guys return all I had was their returning players so I don't know who the fifth one is but I'm going to guess he's got some beef to him too cuz the rest of the line does sure and uh we're going to take a look now real quick at the RW Woods Grill area scoreboard in fact RW Woods I stopped by saw Richard wood today had uh had some uh fried chicken and homemade mashed potatoes and a roll man man those was good stuff so this is where I was going to talk about region 6 5A we're going to hold that we're going to talk about the beach region we'll fill it in because I want to get to a break and see how this uh this is going to work out but so region 6 5A the chiefs were 4 a we're now 5A we are in what everybody is calling the beach region and thankful for it that beach region uh us way Carolina Forest Sak St James and Myrtle Beach everybody tonight is at home uh the only one that was supposed to oh they're not playing that's right St James is not playing tonight so Goose Creek is obviously here at North Myrtle Wilson is at Conway that game was supposed to be at Wilson Wilson had an issue with their lights there was not enough lights on the field so they've change that game uh to Conway wo is at Saka West Brunswick who we will see in a couple couple of weeks is at Carolina Forest Lake City at Myrtle Beach other area games aner at aen Green Sea Floyd's at Loris walk them all at Carver's Bay we're going to talk a little bit more about our future opponents a to me that was the old H side OG home side that we're back on over there now still new old home side yeah the new old home so anyway the team didn't move we moved to what's now the visitor side which 18 years ago when we started uh calling radio or started doing games on radio that's where this is where we were uh and uh don't really like it for the sun purposes but for the for the space and what we are doing with um with with video with the tomaha Halk talk this made it a lot better for us uh lot less people around room less crowd yes yes a lot less interruptions so there there were there were some reasons behind it but we're we're going to talk a little bit I've kind of teased it most people know but for those of you that have tuned in uh North Myrtle Beach was uh in 4A last year reclassification in the state of South Carolina we are now 5A as is Um Myrtle Beach who was also in our region last year they have moved up to 5A we are two of the smaller 5A schools in the state but that now creates what a lot of people have wanted is a beach region and and again for those at uh North Myrtle Beach Myrtle Beach Sak St James Carolina Forest Conway uh the only negative I think that has been thrown out is a scheduling issue um because obviously for North Myrtle Beach that you know all of those all of those other schools other than Myrtle Beach were 5A so they were out of our region and we could play them you know for non-conference for non-conference and now we've got to get now we have to now we have to get teams and it's it's tough I mean that's the first year or so I found it'll probably be pretty tough I think once we kind of establish a few relationships with some other teams outside of our region you know teams in the Florence region possibly teams you know maybe down in Berkeley County or or Georgetown county that we can get paired up with as well uh I think once we find a few reliable uh opponents to work into that schedule we'll will benefit a lot I think this is I think in the long run this is going to be the best for us travel-wise uh like we said the other night on Tomahawk talk is you know these are all closely related teams that all kind of have their own rivalries within each other you know and it used to be you just had that one rival whether it was Loris or whether it was Myrtle Beach but these guys play each other all the time they know each other the communities are so close to each other uh well that's like you take it the last couple of years because it's been you know us in Myrtle Beach and then some teams Florence and Hartsville who we had no uh we we had no no real connection with as far as our fans were concerned and um so what we what we did or I think what we gained in this is that when we get to region games if there was a tight if there was a big Region Game and it was us in South Florence and it was here South Florence would have 20 fans here they don't they just don't travel well outside of I don't even think they I don't think they travel well to their place because we went there last year they were the number one rank team in the state we had more school don't most schools don't travel well I mean it's you know you start having to travel and find a ride to go somewhere an hour and a half away on a Friday night sometimes you might just say well shoot I'll just stay home and watch the news or whatever and find out what happened maybe listen to the radio and maybe listen to those North mtle Beach guys on the you know on the internet and check them out and see what's going on I hope we got some Goose Creek people listen do I know my buddy Steve chers is listening online tonight uh he he works in the Goose Creek area and uh he's all excited following the Gators I told him I can't support him tonight but uh well I've always said we we we try to be fair we're homers we're North Myrtle Beach people you are listening to the Charlie Stewart State Farm Chief Sports Network Sport Network but we will try to be fair and um you know we don't we don't get on we might get on officials but everybody gets on officials so uh but so when we get into those big gamees at the end of the season those games that are for that uh for that playoff spot or for that region title uh you know and it's it's going to be a rival game because the furthest we've got to go is about what 31 m i i i mapped it out uh it's 31 miles from us to Conway and it's 31 miles from us to St James high school that's the furthest we'll go in our region so uh looking very much forward to this beach region now we're going to take a look uh back at this game tonight and talk about our North Myrtle Beach Chiefs some of the keys that uh that we're going to need to win and uh you know I was going to say stopping there's no stopping now you don't stop somebody that ran for 2,000 yards last year uh but slowing down Malik McGowan and forcing Goose Creek to do something that they don't want to do and we got to seize opportunities we got to look for opportunities you know in every game especially here at the beginning of the Season there's going going to be some penalties there's going to be some turnovers things like that bad snaps miscommunications we have to capitalize on those situations that Goose Creek is going to mess up probably a few times and and just make sure that we are able to step in get the ball and and do something with it when when they mess up like that if we can limit our mistakes and keep them less than theirs uh definitely gives us a lot better situation right and and you know and you get to the end with North Myrtle Beach I mean the that that defense uh the with DJ GS coming off the end Sloan McIntyre Lamonte Smith up the middle uh you know clogging holes again you're not going to stop a running back like that you know but again you slow him down a little bit and then you know I get called into I get called into looking at Malik McGowan and his numbers and what you can't do as a what we can't do as a defense is get called in to looking at Malik McAn because they've got kamani Clary coming back and he threw for over 2100 yards 19 touchdowns just two interceptions so not a bad quarterback they've got some good wide receivers I've been told that uh we are going to actually get a first big look at a freshman number 13 to Davis uh you heard coach actually brought his uh number up when he was when we were dealing our coaches interview and uh he's a he's he's a man among boys from what I've heard uh from a couple of media people so so they it's not just Malik McGowan oh no no no no uh he's he's definitely someone we got to have to stop but uh we're going to have to they're going to be multifaceted of course um I'm looking for for big games from you know guys like SLO McIntyre at the Mike linebacker position was a big player for us last year I'm expecting him to step in and have a a good night tonight help stop that run uh big big position change this year brycey Gore has moved over to safety uh from the corner position last year it's going to be a big night for him he's going to have to come up and make some good solid stops on those runs he's going to have to make sure nobody gets behind him on the pass play he's going to have to make a lot of crucial decisions uh good thing for him he's got senior Campbell Kingston back there with him kind of talking through and make sure they're communicating all that stuff together then over on the offensive side of the ball for the Chiefs you take a look and again we talked about it we've got 11 of those 12 starters are seniors Landon Cloninger quarterback watching how he is matured he's a three-year uh starter for the Chiefs but two years ago as a sophore he started as a wide receiver because his shoulder was hurt and he couldn't throw so he played in a position that he had never played before and did pretty dang well well Landon's a competitor he's going he's one of those kids no matter where you put him he's going to find a way to contribute and make the best of it uh he's a great athlete good leader on the team uh I'm definitely expecting a great year out of him this year yeah and then you look at uh you look at the wide outs and a couple of those I call them the Mighty Mites Kaden Gore and Anderson white uh 57 157 for Kaden Gore he's not 157 lbs yeah I think he might have been wet with his helmet on when you waited they I think they they they weit him they wait him early and then he uh he actually got uh he was I was talking to him he got he got sick back during the middle of the summer and uh dropped like 12 lbs he said he had done all of this to kind of bulk up a little bit and then and and uh and then lost that weight but but uh K Kaden's phenomenal I you know I I hate I I love it but I hate it because the only thing he can't control is his height yeah but I'm GNA tell you if Kaden Gore uh and I still think he can play at the FBS level uh as a slot receiver I think he would be helpful to somebody he is incredibly smart has great hands uh fast quick uh you know he's got every intangible other than when people are looking at the film he's 5 yeah he's a little guy there um but uh kayen Gore you put you put Kaden Gore you put his whole package into a 6-2 body and Alabama LSU Ohio State are beating down the doors uh so that's the kind of talent Kon Gore has Anderson white again Andrew krider uh looked for him to have a big year he had uh Andrew had a big last year he did came on had 39 catches uh for 392 yards a 10-point four yards per average or yards per reception average and then we've talked about Brown reefs so you got those four guys that are in the passing game but Steven Vine Drew Prince and coaches tried to hide him but then he scored the first touchdown the CNB kickoff classic jaquel Davis jaquel transferred to North Myrtle Beach from West Brunswick his mother actually works over here at Sea Coast okay uh so they moved so she's closer to work we got the luck of that because I'm going to tell you last year jaquel Davis was a man when we played him 19 carries 119 yards against the Chiefs last year so uh you know maybe you know maybe maybe we can uh maybe we talk to Mr McGowan and uh no I'm just kidding I'm just kidding well you know I uh just comment on our offense you know the the wide receiver core that we have out there along with brown I think grew last year as a team uh great relationship already with the quarterback that's in place you know last year at the beginning of the Season Kaden was definitely Landon's favorite topic or Target um teams started picking up on that and then next thing you know guys like Andrew crder and and Anderson white were stepping up and making catches Brown Reed's making big catches on a regular basis and uh and uh we were you know successful after we were able to find other targets and I I think that's we're just going to pick that up tonight hopefully and and continue where we left off there well of course we uh we feel like we know a lot about the Chiefs we know a little bit about Goose Creek but we're going to throw it over to a man that knows to a man that knows a lot about every school in the state of South Carolina Mr Ian Garren he is going to give us the prep Red Zone opponent's breakdown good evening Chiefs fans this is Ian Garen with prep Red Zone South Carolina with tonight's season opening opponent report on the Goose Creek Gators guys I'm just going to start you off Malik McGowan get to know that name because you're going to see plenty of them this was an Allstate running back for the Gator last year as a sophomore he's got two more years of high school left and and honestly this kid's probably going to flirt with about 8,000 total rushing yards by the time it's all said and done he's very very good breaking tackles he's very good in tight quarters and he can catch the ball out of the back field which makes him even more of a threat he's not the only player on this offense though that you need to know about kamani clarot quarterback he threw for 2100 yards and 19 touchdowns last year he is not interception prone he only threw two picks another problem that you're going to have to deal with this offensive line for Goose Creek they're almost all back try Adams Kingston Hughes Dallas Lee and Xavier Johnson are all back as well as tight end Micah Adams they've got some receiving threats outside young freshman you guys are going to get eyes on before most of the state is Teru Davis he's caught really caught our eye during some of the uh preseason events some over the summer events things like that this kid can really move he's uh he's going to be factor into this offense right away and just to make things a little more interesting for you the gator also returned seven players on defense now is it all doom and gloom of course not you guys had a good showing in the CNB kickoff classic things got a little interesting there against Anor but those interceptions toward the end of the game those are what swing things you you guys are going to need some big plays to counter some of goose Creek's big be handled by the Chiefs at the 15 straight up the middle of the field goes Kaden Gore Kaden's going to get out to looks like they're going to spot it right on the 30 yard line line yep first and 10 North Myrtle Beach Chiefs again the Chiefs are going to have this first possession here going right to left and in all this confusion I do have to get in my favorite sponsor uh I I called I begged them to come back uh liquid money Porton officials Landon cloner takes the snap fakes a hand off to Steven Vine quick out on the right side goes to krider yep and krider is going to gain almost 20 yards he's going to Mark him just short that's going to be a brisket barbecue first down at the Chiefs 49 yd line first brisket barbecue first down of the year hopeing more more One play One play one brisket barbecue touchdown we'll take that handoff right up the middle nice push yes by the interior of that line I believe that was Steven Vine looks like he made it about four I take that back that's jaquel Davis Quil Davis moves the ball into Gator territory at the 47 yd line Second down in six look like we have a little bit of movement they're able to draw the defensive line to jump a little bit and uh Chiefs are going to get five yards from that five yard penalty going to make it about second and one I believe second and one going to leave you just short play I see one of these defensive linemen has bright yellow shoes I'm sure that's going to mess with us a little bit looks kind of like the referee's throwing a flag already Landing claer in pistol Steven Vine off his right hip fakes a hand off claer nowhere to go looked like maybe a busted play yeah there was some kind of miscommunication there Mr yellow shoes came in just as you talked about him number that's Andrew Joseph right up the Middle with the sack takes him back to the 48 yd line going to bring up now third down seven yards to go oh nearly picked off by Duran Smith almost got a piece of that or he did get a piece of it almost hold it in yeah cloner trying to swing that one out to krider Chiefs punt team comes out on the field would be a bad time to consider a fake but I'm pretty sure they'll punt this one yeah back to punt for the Chiefs is quarterback Landon cloner back deep is that freshman wide receiver we were talking about ter ter Davis standing at his own 12 nice high hanging punt oh yeah to Davis comes up takes it at the 20 good coverage by the chief cover good coverage guys good coverage looks like he's going to be down on about the 19 or 20 w yeah I think they're going to spot him at the 20 he took the ball at about the 20 danced around a little bit and a herd of chiefs were there got really good hangtime on that punt man that that helped the defense get or helped our guys get up underneath it when he was there to catch it we were right there ASA Parker one that was in on that believe he's our player of the week this week yeah he was our chief of the week mcowan first play from the line of scrimmage he's right up the middle makes a couple of quick moves quick feet and he's ahead for 15 yards first down yeah brycey Gore came up and made the tackle got to get a little bit more help before it gets to brycey this time Quick Pass from quarterback kamani Clary he overshoots and for Alexander Ravenel say that's a big guy to overshoot cuz 6' yeah only 150 lb but uh or according to the books I don't know it's hard to be 65 and only weigh 150 he's second down and 10 now coming up kamani Clary in pistol Malik mallan off his right hip mcgaan takes the hand off Dances a little bit but before he can get moving in to make the hit for the Chiefs is brycey Gore has a couple of guys join in but he's able to pick up five brings up third down and five ball sitting on the Goose Creek 35 big play Chiefs in a fourman defensive front mwan was on the left hip moves to the right fake the handoff to him here's the pass coming out brycey was that brycey Gord no that was not that was Tanner patella was paying a little bit too soft on the big wide receiver Alexander Ravenel well he made a little quick comeback there's a penalty marker I believe might have been a hold I saw the tackle over here laying on top of us but I don't know if they're going to call out or not which way are they well maybe they're not moving either way no first down yeah it is a first down not sure uh maybe there wasn't a penalty the liquid money Porta John officials they came out of that Porta John I guess and picked up the flag first and 10 Goose Creek another hand off to mcau and he's up the middle and then breaks out to the left flag comes in from the backfield probably a hold would have been a gain of about 12 yards as he moved to the north Myrtle Beach 40 yard line but that is going to be a hold called by the head referee they're going to back them up 10 yards I love when referees do this like they're trying to get you know the coaches to do you want to go back yeah no I want to give him [Laughter] down so a ray set first down run by Malik mcgaan and instead of being first and 10 at the Chiefs 40 it is now going to be first and 25 ball setting back on the Goose Creek 37 yd line come on Clary in pistol hands off to Macwan mcgaan quick feet again right up the middle tell you what mwan is moving his feet Wayne and we he just carried three guys with him hey he's he's impressive he is very impressive and we've only seen what five six plays gets ahead there for about uh about seven yards I you say he gained gained more than a more than I thought there second down now at about 13 this time Clary takes off running coming up to make the play for the Chiefs I guess to solidify he down was Bryce e Gore but making the initial play was cornerback Jan Grace it's going to bring up third down now ball sitting on the 49 yd line of Goose Creek third down and about eight back to pass across the middle and wide open Clary had his receiver wide open across the middle threw it a little bit too far in front it's now going to be fourth down wait and see what they're not showing punt oh yes they are say I gave up my roster that's right I keep looking over here for the roster that I gave away Jason Winstead head coach Jaylen grants punting be standing on his own 37 yd line punt is up it's going to be a squib punt right down the middle he's going to let it go and it's going to roll nice roll gets down whenever it stops they're going to be down to the five yard line I tell you what that was about the ugliest punch you could have had but uh the result turned out good because everybody's scared of it you just want to get away from it cuz Scar the way it's bouncing around and if you're on the if you were on the chief's line and you just stood up you probably wouldn't even have to raise your hands you just stood up you would have blocked it he kicked what you would call a knuckle ball almost it had no rotation no spin on it whatsoever and just above the lineman's heads but uh the result was it rolled all the way down to the 5 yd line put the chiefs with a 95 yard Drive in front of them first and 10 at the five for the North Myrtle Beach yellow shoes what was his name Andrew Joseph yeah forward progress out to about the one yd line but a loss of four looks like Goose Creek is recognizing our our youth at uh guard position there kind of exposing a little bit of experience deficiencies at the beginning here hopefully these guys can rally it together and protect second down looks like they put the ball down at about the one one and a half call it second and 13 hand off again this one's not going to get out of the end zone that's going to be a safety ball was handed off to vine and looks like that's a big number 90 90 we don't have a 90 I don't see 90 on the roster yep and twerk Diamond making an early appearance in the season one of my favorite players and twerp Diamond he's been playing for uh I don't know he's he's been playing High School football for about 16 years on the CH one of those guys that seems like he's just been playing forever so two to nothing the score Goose Creek man I was actually going to be proud of myself that I was changing the score as quick as I was I got two text messages to change the score guess you know Eric's was just to be helpful I think the other one was to be a a smart honey oh we have lots of fans that offer assistance that's all love I love our fans staying focused 6 minutes 58 seconds to go here in the first quarter two to nothing your score is Goose Creek gets the safety on the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs after the worst best punt you may see all year yeah the turned out great for them I mean they got a safety out of it basically by pinning us back there with uh yeah I mean and and as a as a receiver you are you're scared to catch a ball like that cuz it's bouncing around you don't know where it's going to go you're better off just letting it go what it reminded me of was like one of those rugby punts where they run out to the side and do the drop kick he uh legit tried to put I but like I said I mean the result was good you can't argue with it that's one of the things where the coach you come back to the sideline the coach is like why the heck you kick it like that and he said coach what what what youing about just got a text message from one of the biggest fans of antp diamond that there is Phil Jones very thankful that an torp's got another year of Eligibility yeah you think college is bad the chief Sports Network eligibility is uh never ending he's a triple red shirt on his 60e of Eligibility something like that kicking off for the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs from their own 20 after the safety will be senior Braden Russell pair of returners back for Goose Creek standing just short of their 30 yard line guess they knew what we were going to do brayen pooches this up it's going to be taken at the 40 and on the move is Jordan Ravenel and Jordan ravanel makes a couple of moves makes people miss and he's in the end zone ah man that's disappointing um you know you you kick it up there like that that short pooch kick so that you can get your team over there you put them on the sideline don't give them a lot of space to return and we just didn't make a good do a good job tackling there yeah I mean you're you know he gets it he gets it up in the air it's yeah he we had we had the coverage there and nobody wraps up he makes and he didn't have to make a lot of moves he made two moves yeah and then off to the races 8 to nothing now Goose Creek on for the extra point is Owen freris apologize to any Goose Creek fans if I am Mis pronouncing his name but that ball is no good I thought it was right up through the uprights but must have been wide right well that's good Wayne because that keeps the score eight to nothing eight to nothing still just one to nothing is better than nine to nothing of course because that puts us Within Reach uh with a a good drive here on offense we get some things going and uh we can get right back in this um you know I think real quickly we're just going to have to make some adjustments probably do a little bit different what we did on the last possession obviously we were trying to be conservative there because we were pinned back so deep but uh I think Goose Creek ended up d uh demonstrating the fact that they have a strong front and uh that's probably meaning we're going to be looking for some screens some some Pitch outs some things like that to get us on the outside and and create some space and I think they also knew that we were probably going to be conservative to try and get out so they just pinned their ears back and came after us and uh absolutely you know a couple of big guys up the middle hate that we don't have uh number 90 on our roster actually I don't really hate it because I I love Anor Diamond I mean he has he's played for so many teams over the years and it doesn't matter I mean that that kid can play any position on the field he's kicked he's played quarterback running back he's been an interior lineman no for the kickoff is Owen freris I just got word from Goose Creek that you are pronouncing the names correctly yay thank you Mr chers and before this kickoff could get kicked off there was a whistle and someone crossed the line before so they're going to back it up five yards I'm going tell you what about that penalty and and thank goodness that the liquid money officials called that for us but if you watch kickoffs you're going to see an off Sid on just about 90% of them uh it almost happens just by happen stance on almost every kickoff well and you obviously know this from coaching days and as many years as you've watched it oh I've stood down there on that referee's ear many of night there's a there's a penalty a penalty of some type could be called on every game I mean on every play yes yes just got to know when to put that in your pocket kickoff this time is going to go it's going to be taken at the 20 yd line oo that was like head to head on the move was cerer looked to be helmet to helmet contact no calls krier jumped up immediately but that was a hit yeah it was pretty solid hit took krider down they're going to spot the ball at the 35 yd line that's where the Chiefs going to take over third possession first one ended up in a punt second ended up in a safety the Chiefs find themselves elves down 8 to nothing 6 minutes 41 seconds remaining here in the first quarter Landing cloniger quell Davis with the handoff he's up the middle couple of nice moves and Davis out near first down territory they may Mark him just short for a gain of nine yeah Davis on the inside Zone play was able to take the ball and create a little yardage um our our interior lineman did a great job of opening up a you a little space you don't have to open up a huge gap for him up there just kind of get enough for him to fit through and they did a job there again jaquel Davis off the right hip of Landon cloniger cliner drops back takes a look at Davis steps up in the pocket nobody to pass to and he is going to be sacked back at the 40 yard line yeah we had trouble getting somebody free there looked like we had a lineman going downfield I don't understand what that was about but uh that was Hampton Kingsford was down the field I believe or was that Jakari Weatherspoon I might have my numbers wrong but um looked like he was down the field so I think that might be how that could use his blocking yes we had a pretty good pocket there until Doran Smith came through with the sack and again turns around hands off to jaquel Davis and nowhere to go Goose Creek defense yes lman gave up a little too much penetration on that play gets maybe a gain of two out to the 40 yd line but nothing past that brings up fourth down and five and the Chiefs back out to punt again Landing cloniger was talking to talking to coach between Landon cler and U Braden Russell Braden Russell may be a little bit better punter but Landon claer a lot more sure with his hands back there on the snap is the reason that uh claer started punting last year this punt gets nice high gets the Hang Time nice coverage Again by the Chiefs the ball was received at the 25 he did make one person missed but there were three more Chiefs there to bring him down with that tackle for North Myrtle Beach is Lamonte Smith you know and on the topic of of punters you know having your quarterback as a punter lends a lot of possibilities to the equation you know um we can fake it we can quick uh punt it we can do all kinds of things like that that you wouldn't normally do by putting Braden out there not that Braden does a bad job I think he's a great punter but um not a bad decision to leave your quarterback there if you 10 kman Clary takes the snap hands off to Malik mcgallen he's right up the middle and Malik about 18 yards out to the 44 yd line first down for Goose Creek tell you one thing if you are a fan of the Goose Creek Gators getting to watch Malik mwan for for three years is amazing I would I would if I was from Goose Creek I'd have a lot more people in these stands cuz there's no way I'd miss it watching that young man play yeah plus you get to have a trip trip to the beach for the weekend first and 10 hand off again to Malik McGowan takes a step up front jab step to the outside that's going to be a gain of six yards Chiefs looked like they had it bottled up inside was made by Kevin Jacobs there you just can't uh you can't bottle up somebody that's got that quick of a step yeah if you're going to if you're going to collapse the middle like that you got to have somebody on the outside when he bounces bit extra they're going to say he's just short of the first down inches third and inches it was third and four he gained three and n/1 of a yard Goose Creek running a true HB in there on the shockingly enough mwan gets the ball again and uh he's gone made a couple of people Miss breaks to the outside coming up to make the play for the Chiefs I actually missed that number is it I think it was uh Campbell Kingston number N Campbell Kingston number nine comes up and makes the play I turned to look and I caught the wood frame got a Timeout on the field way timeout is called by the North anner leaving leading aen 8 to nothing Loris over green SE Floyd's 14 nothing wandoo over Sucka seven to nothing seems to be some kind of issue with uh Clary coming back over to talk to the coaches well between Clary and seems to be I a spotting issue because now they're moving the ball up to the 30 which I'm not sure why if it was a holding call from the line of scrimmage was it the 20 almost the 22 but anyway ball spotted the 31 yd line we're going to now play kamani Clary back fakes a hand off he's going to hit Alexander Ravenel he already has one touchdown on the kickoff following the safety and this is going to be a completed pass they're going to spot the ball yeah g Creek kind of picked up on it that we uh were running a little uh inside interchange there and we they ran a quick slant and there was nobody there first down and 20 that pass is going to be for 19 they spot him just one yd short at at the 14 yd line and before the snap second call timeout by the North Myrtle fakes the hand off Clary pass was intended for mik Adams had the sophomore open across the middle but yeah H back coming off the coming off the right side there and um was unmatched got behind our defense and thank goodness they didn't connect there it's a good move there you got a second down and one you know go for it everybody everybody's thinking you're just going to get that first down but now you've got third and really short go for it twice Clary this time will hand off to Malik mcgaan the Chiefs great job there stopping him good now of course he may still pick up the first down cuz he didn't have to get very far y I don't know if they're going to give it to him or not we met him at the line they're saying fourth down yeah they're not not giving him uh not giving him the forward progress so fourth down less than one think uh Kevin Jacobs was in on that tackle there along with a bunch of Chiefs up front did a good job sealing that up big fourth down play coming up for the Chiefs hand off oh fake to McAllan and the quarterback M Clary is going to keep it he goes around the right side he's going to pick up the first down he only picked up three but he only needed about a half that was a textbook read option play by Clary did a excellent read on that uh hand off to mwan would have been eaten up we were all over it and he just pulled it and ran first and goal just in inside the 10 yd line mwan with the hand off he goes up the middle makes a spin move and touchdown Goose Creek I hate to keep saying I mean I know I said you know we're North burtle Beach and we're homers hey hey that's impressive yeah I mean that was a that was a quick move to the right the Chiefs came up looked like they were going to make the hit at about the five or six yd line he puts a spin move leaves two players standing there and he's standing in the end zone yep 14 to nothing Goose Creek on to kick the extra point is Owen freris uhoh fumble snap and uh yeah penetration the holder had to pick it up and uh Jamari Wilson was able to come in and tackle the holder stop the extra point play so that's two- failed uh extra point plays for the Gators and that leaves it at 14 so still two possession uh game now instead of uh three North Myrtle Beach Chiefs we talked about in the pregame as we were going over and and basically as anybody has talked about North Myrtle Beach it has been all positive about the offense lot of seniors lot of weapons so far tonight and what they saw talked about Goose Creek was about their offense because I have I have talked to quite a few people and have heard you know their defense may be a little Shak well their defense has been pretty stellar and our offense not quite gotten started here in game one uh you know honestly I think it's one of these I don't have stats but if you were able to look at the stats you would say you know that we're pretty lucky to only be down two to two scores man I forgot I should be taking running stats I wasn't I started and then we hit all this mess and so uh well that'll be that'll be a game two issue list yes on with the kickoff Owen freris puts the ball in the air bounces is going to be taken on the Run caught it on the bounce that's the that's jqu Davis Davis yeah and that ball kind of took a funny bounce not only did it bounce but it bounced back towards Goose Creek jaquel Davis really had to run up and and catch that one CU obviously you that's a lot ball Advanced the ball up to what about 46 yd line here yeah great starting field position where 40 45 seconds to go yep they've T now they've taken it back it looked like it was up about the 45 but they have spotted at the 43 yd line so first and 10 Chiefs on their own 43 yd line Landon cloniger in the back field Drew Prince now off his left hip Drew Prince hits the hole hard goes straight up the middle he's going to get into Goose Creek territory at the 49 yd line good solid 8- yd gain there by Drew good strong run thing I like about watching Drew run is there is no hesitation no no he makes a quick decision and then whether that decision's good or bad he's coming goes yeah second down long two Cloninger again hands off to comes off his hands and Duran Smith was right there have we got a flag now you start praying that the flag just goes the right way liquid money Porta John officials Seline warning sideline warning against Goose Creek but that is going to be after the fact of the interception so the Chiefs pick up a big penalty look like they're moving and then claer he had his man open but puts it just behind North Myrtle Beach see this is this is where I really don't understand cuz the the penalty came at the end of the play why wouldn't just off setting and you stay right there yeah I don't know I mean the both penalties came as the tackle was happening but I'm not arguing I just don't understand it but uh well I that's why kind of argue a little bit they didn't move the ball back at all we got a nice return I would have taken the return if nothing else but so on the punt for a third time see if we Jaylen Grant there we go and coming up to to make the catch I think that was uh krider yeah it booth tonight our halftime guest is North Myrtle Beach director of Athletics Tony hbr Tony Summer's over and it's back to the Grind not like you get too much of a break even during the summer anyway but um know obviously you've been working these past few weeks gearing up for the 24 25 school year but there really no is no pre-season for an athletic director because uh school starts and you jump right in the fire that's pretty accurate um you know we come back early in July and people think well there's July there's not a whole lot going on you're getting all your schedules put in your officials lined up security lined up there there's plenty to keep you busy and then once fall sport start August 2nd you're you're wide open well you know folks uh folks they they see the ad you're you're always running around you're wearing you know I don't know how many hats you've got uh uh you know too many to count but uh I know in one day last week or two weeks ago I think we um you know I saw you you got to work early because we were texting pretty early that morning you travel to Conway for the CNB kickoff classic press conference I rode with you we drove back here you went and got in a bus and drove back to aner with the volleyball team to get back here late so you could get up the next morning and come to work early so uh yeah never never any rest and never any tell telling what you're going to be doing no actually one of our coaches asked me last week he said you know what's your daily schedule like do you just kind of come in and wing it like is there a certain you know schedule you follow and I said most days the schedule kind of determines when you show up like kind of what happens today I was doing some stuff with transfers that I had no clue without my schedule but you know it is what it is last week we had events Monday through Friday so I was almost 70 hours last week and we weren't even in school yet so it's right back in the thick of things like I said whatever's needed that's kind of falls on me and we just do what we got to do and you know keep the ship moving well we look at this upcoming year and uh you know I I look at it more uh from a football standpoint just because we're here on the Charlie Stewart State Farm Chief Sports network doing a football game but um let's talk a bit a little bit about uh the move up to 5A uh region 6 5A also known now as the beach region unless you're our buddy Ashley Smith over in Conway he uh he wants to call it the River Region but anyway um Talk there's there's a lot of positives so talk a little bit about some of the positives of that but there's also negatives that a lot of people don't think about yeah the positive for sure um obviously proximity instead of us driving an hour and a half to West Florence South Florence Wilson 2 hours to Hartsville your Fighter's games Conway 40 minutes so for us as ads you're saving money on travel um when you're hosting you get much big you know bigger probably I don't want to say Double Gates but significantly different from the region games we host Wilson we may sell a 100 tickets to them when we play Conway we may sell 3 400 tickets so by comparison it'll be a big difference um on the negative side of things the downfall is non- region travel everyone assumed oh travel or schedule are going to be easy to make well yes and no previously you'd schedule all the ory counties and then you'd have your far ones for region now when you flip it it's not the same we're having a hard time because people don't jump the opportunity to come play at the beach so it doesn't matter what sport it is we're struggling to fill the non- region portion of it because everyone we're used to playing is now in the region yeah and I gotta uh you know wasn't really thinking about that as much until that CNB kickoff classic and you heard every coach talking about the same thing with the scheduling and and and I don't know this but I would think it's probably easier for football um just based on the sport that it is versus trying to find somebody let's say to come down and play the best volleyball team in the state we definitely struggled with viall because people don't want to come play us our girls are really good and expectations are well we're just going to go take a loss I'm not going to drive that far you know I Tred schedule West Florence and him and I are really good friends he said you can come to me CU I'm not driving an hour and a half one way to get beat in 30 minutes and I understand where he's coming from so we got you know a 90% full schedule um we're struggling you know a little bit in basketball trying to fill the schedule as well but you know you make the best of it it is what it is football wasn't the greatest scheduling um obviously Goose Creeks not L close um but the other ones you know if you look at the proximity we can't go to the East North Carolina we're already playing shalot so the next thing would be you know most likely Wilmington you go to the Florence schools or you go to Charleston so we're just not in a good area for travel yeah and in a lot of those cases you know you look to get that uh you look to get that home in home well I know it was brought up again in that press conference that a lot of the schools in Charleston don't want to play you because they've got plenty of people to play right there in Charleston where they don't have to I mean you know I looked at the schedule this year and I'm like man Goose creep that's kind of nice oh wait in 2025 that means we're going to be going to Goose Creek so um so yeah it's uh that that that that was a big thing that I don't think that you know a lot of people thought about to begin with but for those of you that have to deal with it every day it's a it's a big deal yeah the immediate all this going to be great for rivalries and it is a positive but there's also the flip side to it like I said we'll play Loris but we generally don't play aner in a lot of sports we don't play Green C just because of the size differential well now that point you're 45 minutes to anybody else marrying to Mullins we play in certain sports but again they're two-way so for us to get equal competition size-wise we're having to go to Florence OR farther or Charleston which like you said there's two Charleston regions there's 12 teams that can play each other and never have to leave 35 minutes away well let's talk a little bit about uh things new around the North mtle Beach High School campus relating to Athletics obviously I think the first thing people see when they pull in a a torn up parking lot where uh where I believe there's a a new tennis court coming well there's also a pool coming if you come on the right day um because it's just it's been a nightmare um we're behind schedule supposed to be done before school started obviously things happen so we're in the process of adding a fifth tennis court or the oyster roast Park Lot used to be we're in the process of getting that repaved and getting additional spots there it's not been ideal because obviously we've got kids parking all over this campus but we're getting by we're doing what we got to do um we just put some new wind screen up yesterday out by the street on seamont Highway 270 ft which looks really good um just trying to Spruce the place up a little bit uh we will be getting new baseball and softball scoreboards later in September um we got a generous donation and some money from the district so both of those will be really nice once we get those as well so uh we're also getting new shot clocks currency of the district in the gym which puts us in head of a lot of the programs in the state well taking a look we've already uh jumped into this uh schedule obviously girls golf backtack days playing and getting back-to-back victories uh but we've already talked a little bit about volleyball uh it just came out their uh preseason ranked number one um no big surprise there no matter what were playing last year we were 4 a but we were still ranked number one in the state no matter classification so uh and pretty much everybody coming back so um big tournament this weekend battle at the beach in fact as we speak here at halftime on a Friday night they're over there in the gym so I was uh lucky to be able to get you over here but tomorrow might be a night where I just go ahead and stay in my office because by the time we get out of here it'll probably be 11: 11:30 and I got to turn on me back by 7:00 a.m. to get everything situated for the tournament which start at 8 in both gyms and we'll probably go till about 5:00 so it'll be a long long weekend a lot of good volleyball we've got four teams from North Carolina uh Carolina Forest I think we got Oceanside and then Lexington uh Blair Harden's wife is coaching Lexington now so she'll be coming little trip home um y Erica Erica Harden who uh was formerly Erica Alman who played here and uh coached here and she's uh she's actually bringing her team in and I helped her helped her get a a little dinner set up for uh for earlier this afternoon but um well we're going to wrap this up we're going to get along with the rest of halftime here folks uh if you see Tony around don't don't um you know whatever it is that you think you're angry about think about how much work he's shoot ourselves in the foot yes I think that's a synopsis of everything that we said that you couldn't hear when Jude and I were just talking to each other pretty much and uh you know just kind of going back to what we were even saying in the pregame uh first game you know there's always a lot of rust stuff like that we were on the wrong side of it at at the first half hopefully this second half we can get it back together and maybe Goose Creek will make some mistakes with their own well second half going back to at the end of the first half there was a penalty thrown on the sidelines of Goose Creek they were penalized 15 yards so the Chiefs are going to kick off here in the second half but they're going to kick off from the 45 yd line of Goose Creek now Goose Creek thinks we might do the same thing that you said they had of course I'm not sure why we they had they had eight guys lined up thinking that we might onside kick and um instead of either following through with that or squid kicking it uh not the second guess we just kicked it out of the back of the end zone and we will give them the ball at the 20 yd line so first and 10 from the 20 of course no time on the clock or time off the clock cuz it didn't start so 12 minutes here in the third quarter again 14 to nothing Goose Creek they scored early those 14 points but then the Chiefs defense came down played much better quick Swing Out Pass from Clary to is that I believe that's Mike Adams who was that stepped out of bounds I believe but I don't know if they're going to call it yep off marked it out of bounds it's going to be about the three yd line I believe I didn't catch a number was that 13 to Davis I believe I saw the three as it was running down and uh made a made a little move back at about I don't know about the 27 yd line and from there it was him just straight down the sidelines and Chiefs chasing they say he stepped out at the five is going to be first and goal from the 5 yd line little slip screen type play and kind of got underneath a blocker and made a move and 75 yds later it's first and goal quick handoff to Malik mcgaan the Chiefs bottle him up he might get ahead to the three yd line for a gain of two but it's going to be second down and goal DJ GS in on the stop for the Chiefs this play again hand off up the middle touchdown Malik McGowan 20 to nothing now Goose Creek all on a pass that looked relatively harmless he fakes the hand off to McGowan but again that's where McGowan comes in our entire defense of line is going inside unfortunately so is the outside they're sneaking in and that's where you can get in trouble and that's exactly what we did they caught the guy on the outside and then with his speed coming around the sidelines 70 what I say 75 yards and then two plays later they score and on for the kick is Maya Gonzalez she hits the extra point and it's 21 to nothing Goose Creek we're going to take a quick break we'll be right back on the Charli Carolina Forest with the victory aner 30 aen 13 Darlington leads Lamar 20- 15 snap comes to Cloninger handoff goes to Steven Vine Steven's going to get ahead for a gain of call it three yards marked route kind of cleared it out and as he cleared it out Kaden Gore came right in behind him Cloninger with a quick pass third down play coming Cloninger takes the snap hands off and there's nowhere to go to hands off to Steven Vine and Steven had nowhere to go there's five Defenders yeah they they changed defenses there they went from a 44 to a 53 or 5 two almost uh bringing an extra Man Down the Line there and it kind of mixed some things up for us Y and a a good call there by Goose Creek cuz that's going to bring up fourth down ball sitting back on the 43 yd line of the Chiefs now going to send out the pting unit North Myrtle scored on their last possession then made a three and outstand on defense unfortunately can't keep that momentum going have to punt it away here on fourth down in this snap Landon made an incredible play to keep that anywhere close as that snap was way over his head jumps up able to tap it down to himself and dive back on it but that is going to give incredible field position at the 32 yd line of the Chiefs for Goose Creek tell you Landon really showed he's also on the north mytle beach pass team and he showed that leeping ability he he jumped up with one hand and swatted the ball down like he was blocking a shot um just to kind of bring it back down so he could even cover it up but uh Goose Creek's defense and now thrown in with a another mistake another miscue by the Chiefs their offense now back on the field and they're going to hand the ball off to Malik McGowan bottled him up inside he looked like he was going to try to bounce left there was nothing there he comes all the way back back across the field which was a short side of the field and even though it was congested he's going to end up it's going to be short of the first down but it's about n y gain say I saw the the first down marker was moving but he didn't make it he gained about eight it's going to be second down and two pass Clary drops back he's looking to his right he's got his receiver yeah we gave him a little too much time in the pocket there he kind of got to pick through some things and with that reception is Jaylen Grant made the catch and was forced out of bounds but little just a little pitch and catch action action there Clary with mwan hands off to mwan up the middle couple little dance moves and the Chiefs are going to bring him down at the 5 yd think they're close they're not as close as they really appear when they show it down the the uh like in the NFL when you can really look at camera angles and see down the line cuz their their entire body has to be across so it could just be the tip of your toe at the line and it's good but I'm guessing that's and that is what they call it's also easier to see in the NFL when they put that nice blue line on they always paint that blue line on the field before every play right yeah it's nice when they do that I wish we had that here we have to talk to them about getting some paint and putting that line out so we can see where the the the the line of scrimmage is and then the first down line we really need that line get the yellow one get get some blue and yellow paint let's go brisket the Gap and you know at one time honestly when we had when we scored and we held to that three and out there were a lot of positives going on for the Chiefs there but ever since Goose Creek came back on that next one force us to go three and out and then we had the bad snap ever since then you know nothing's gone right for the Chiefs I think you know at some points you're like yeah what what we well we got down and then we had a chance to grab the momentum we had it for a brief second and then you know you have to fight so hard to get there and then when something goes bad at that point it's kind of hard to it's like those you know the it it just keeps piling on you've got a couple of turnovers you've got some uh you know quite a few penalties called tonight the you know it's at at some side they putting a tight end out on the right side but almost everybody on the team is over here on this sideline to this side not really sure why you would uh why you would be passing now and I'm right now uh Clary mcgaan and Davis all had fantastic games tonight for the Gator so far surprising to see them in here at this point and it's funny you know they you look at it the guys that you just talked about because we're talking about us with 28 seniors the guys that you just said Junior junor and freshman freshman yes first and 10 handoff to mwan McGowan makes one defensive player Miss in Wilson gets the gets the block like we told them they they fumbled the holder a little bit and delayed snap a little bit and yeah he got in there um High School football unfortunately you can't return obviously Goose Creek you know you you try to as a coach you're going to you're going to take the positives from this game but you're going to look for things like that to be your teaching points and yeah you know it's if we correct mistakes we can do better that's the thing you got a first game it's non- region contest there's no reason to to write off anything on this because it is what it is interesting to watch when we play them in week four uh then we're going to be we'll be at home week five after uh two weeks on the road I'm sorry we're at home with Loris then marbor County they played Lake Maran tonight not sure if I've seen that final but a big hit there swing Steven yeah swing pass and Goose Creek comes up and lays the lumber and that's going to be fourth down and five Landon cloner is going to punt it away for the Chiefs four minutes 15 seconds to go 4114 Goose Creek over North Myrtle Beach here in game one of the 2024 season well the positive for Goose Creek in addition to the win is that it makes your two plus hour ride back home a lot easier this kick goes off the side of kiner's foot and another high snap bounces goes out of bounds they're going to spot this one at the 45 yd line 3 minutes 44 seconds to go we will see who comes back out at quarterback see if they send Clary back out but Goose Creek team you give definitely give them their due they're fun to watch they've got a lot of weapons it's not just it's not just mwan but I can tell you one thing when and I know it'll be different down the road when they're in a really tight game mcan's going to get more touches but there were times tonight where I was thinking you know M we haven't stopped him why would you not yeah and um you know but they they mixed it up pretty well quick handoff right up the middle new running back in this isman javic javic Bowman listed as a wide receiver but he took that ball ran right up the middle looked like he was tiptoeing through some tulips he was tiptoeing around some tackles gets a 10 yard gain he's at the North Myrtle Beach 45 yd line 330 to go kman Clary still in at quarterback takes a snap hands off again hands off to Bowman Bowman tries to dance around a little bit only gets a two- yard gain going to bring up second down and eight in on the tackle for North Myrtle Beach now in playing linebackers Junior ASA Parker again 10 seconds on the play clock Clary just kind walks over gets the play from his coach he's got plenty of time takes a snap he's going to hand off there's a flag on the field play is stopped got something going on I don't flag thrown right in front of I'm not sure what was said Jason Winstead just kind of puts his head down shakes it illegal procedure called I think he was probably telling him dude just keep it yeah I think when they're they're Shifting the HB over I think he might be leaning forward whenever he tries to get set before they move only thing I can tell I didn't see any other movement well I'm guessing it was uh Cleo Hughes that was maybe moving forward because I think just by looking at him I think that's what winad was doing he was kind of showing he was like you know doing hand motions like straight across because I think he was like you were saying he was kind of angling towards the line it's not Canadian football so another handoff here to Bowman Bowman dancing around as he's dancing around he's thrown forward for about four yards that's four yards after a pretty nice run 12 yards on that by the end of it it's going to be about third and eight third down and eight from the Myrtle Beach 14 Jude the supposed to recap the game here and you and I've have been standing here talking you know the the the Chiefs didn't start off very well um a lot of lot of mistakes in the first quarter uh you give up you have the ball what first first and 10 on your own four yd line two plays you're in the end zone you give up the safety you give up a touchdown right after that uh then you come out I think we might have gone three and out give them the ball back they end up scoring again all of a sudden you know it's 14 to nothing the only thing you've got going for you is that you've kept it at two scores and then the second quarter we came out and a little bit more levelheaded we and actually played really well but we had so many mistakes tonight in that second quarter I thought we had chances to score and um just couldn't get it done and and it was it was either turnovers penalties it was just every you know the bad snap on the punt uh in the was that second quarter or third that that was the second quarter um so well I mean we opened up the second half we had some positives kind of in the first half open up the second half kicked it out of the back of the end zone because of the penalty up they take the ball at 25 and break a 75 yard play Plus on a little slip screen that shouldn't have got probably you know eight yards but we missed two tackles and and the guy gets a sideline block and and he's gone and uh that was kind of indicative of the night for the Chiefs we would do uh three things really good and then we'd have one mess up that and the one and one mess up was bad enough to overshadow those three positives yes you know there there are positives you're going to look at this and uh most people are going to go 41 to 14 you know what positives could you have there were positives in this game there were there were a lot of positives in this game our defense faced a a very tough offensive line and probably one of the best running backs in the State uh without question uh you know 5A player of the year last year uh back or region player of the year I'm sorry made all state All State as a sophore as a sophomore he's back this year as junor and he's obviously playing right at the same level um maybe better um offensive line they they outsized us a little bit there uh which is one reason why I think we kind of struggled in the first quarter we came out a little flat-footed weren't ready or weren't quite mentally prepared for that first match up against these really big guys maybe got a little shock to our system to start off start off with and started off slow settled down the second quarter like you said and just couldn't get the ball in the end zone need quarter like and that's and I think that's one of the big points is is that in that second quarter I think our lineman we started shooting gaps we started we started instead of waiting for mwan to hit us at the line of scrimmage or two or three yards we started going at him and uh there were there were times tonight and I'm not talking about one or two plays I'm talking about in chunks of plays where we we did a a good job of stopping mwan yes we had some we had some good uh defensive series we got a we did a good three and out at one point we had you know a couple other pretty good series on defense we had a couple of good series on offense heck I mean we made some great passes here we'll talk about in a second and I think Landon played a pretty solid game other than he had a couple he threw two interceptions on paper but two interceptions but both them both them in the hands pretty much yeah and and what does you know now the one day Anderson that was it was probably a bad throw that was a little bit behind him but you know a receivers coach I mean a quarterback coach is always going to say man if they get their hands on it they ought to catch it yes yes but but you had the yeah so the one both of them go off in the other one uh unfortunately you know right between krider's hands I had a text message that went between his hands bounced off his face mask and and the interception and that uh both of those interceptions was the same guy who was it Duran Smith and he had a heck of a night I statistically when whenever they pull up their stats and they look at it Durant Smith had a heck of a night they they've got a solid team Goose Creek has a solid team they're um they've they've had some issues like they went four- seven overall uh last year but they were three and one in the region they went five- seven the year before that uh but they went 4-0 in their region in 2022 so they you historically have started out the last couple of years not historically the last couple of years they've started off slow and then turned it on in their region so um they get get a non- region win here tonight looked pretty solid and I'm going to tell you you know with with mwan no matter who's around him mwan is going to make any team pretty dang good but he's got a lot around him and kamani Clary is he's a solid quarterback solid qu runs option real well he throws a good pass um you know some of them didn't get brought in on the long passes but that's a timing issue that they'll probably iron out over the season uh this was a good team we faced tonight I you know and I said it I mentioned it Monday uh they they've got a solid team in Goose Creek they have a good solid program when we bring an opponent in like that um you you know if you can win it's great but you can't be you know can't beat yourself up if you don't win the game um because they're a good program you know they're a good solid program they're the type of program that you want to be playing at this time of year because they're going to make you better well sorry about that I yeah get a little upset when people can't use the right door uh but the yeah overall again tonight I you know obviously you can't uh you you you lose by that score you're not going to you're not going to be uh Happy in in any way with you want it to be closer you definitely want the game to be closer but in um but in this game I think there's there's at least enough that you can point to to say guys we've we've got some things going the right way we've got to cut down on mistakes you just when you're playing a team that's as good as them you can't make mistakes we talked about that during the pregame you've got to take advantage of the other team's mistakes and tonight Goose Creek did that yes they took advantage of our mistakes we were not able to capitalize on the the fewer mistakes that they had they they did have some mistakes they they had some is cues penalties that we could have made them pay for a little bit more than we did um that's again that's just stuff the mental aspect of the game that you just got to get ironed out hopefully uh this team and it's game one yes it's year uh we got a lot more to go with this team and uh these guys are pretty mature they're a mature team they know how to accept what happened wrong and and uh and turn it around they know that there's some corrections they'll have to make as players and I know this coaching staff will be there to remind them of it and show them what they need to do well we're going to take a look at the Bubba Collins well before we do the Bubba Collins Premier performer let's look at the Crab Catchers catch of the game we talked about this because I think there's a there's a couple of different ways we could go um and and a couple of different players we talked a lot about Landon koner I thought he had uh even with the two interceptions again those uh I won't say I won't say they weren't his fault but uh when you when when your two interceptions go off a receiver's hands uh there's there's there you you know you were at least in the area yeah so um you know I thought Landon Landon played played well tonight you know they put a lot of pressure on him and he moved his feet got out got the ball swung out when you know either and he and he ran more tonight than I think we're used to seen we used to seeing him just throw the ball away uh so he extended those plays but um when we're looking at the Crab Catchers catch of the game I think we uh agreed Andrew krier the right before the play that uh Brown Reeves had that was so good Andrew krider caught one down the outside seam where he had run a great route got behind uh the defense made a nice play along the sideline so our Crab Catchers catch of the game goes to Andrew krier the aformentioned brown Reeves big catches tonight couple of Big Blocks that we talked about he made a couple of I know when we were going left to right couple of big catches one back in the first half I think one maybe in that third quarter where uh you know finding the spot going and sitting down getting the pass again Landon put it right on him but uh you know like we talked about in the pregame that's one of the things that makes brown Reeves so good and one of the things that he has just gotten butter and butter and better at he reads the defense finds a hole goes and sits down and then he had that pass down the seam he caught the pass and then took four or five players with him down to about the half yard line so and I'm just remembering too he had that one here at Midfield where he had eight guys on him at oh right
