hello fam welcome back to a new video I'm yaa creates and I make drawing videos about stuff I'm excited about um so today I'm going to be drawing actually um it is more about like learning fundamentals recently I've been on a mission to improve my art and uh in that process I thought I should touch base on the fundamentals I've like thought about three ways to do that I mean these are challenges which are well known and in the coming videos I'm hoping that I would actually finish these challenges before this year ends the first challenge which I started which was going to be like the easy level because it's it doesn't require that much of time commitment and um as a result of that I just did this 30-day art challenge in just 3 hours under 3 hours this is the learn to draw in 30 days challenge by Mark brune and um what we're going to do is we're going to learn basics of form and uh of constructing and deconstructing um what we see like objects um in using basic forms so that's the main goal of this art Challenge and um as you can see uh um I kind of like speed ran through it especially when I saw the first prompt that the day one was just um drawing a spere cutting to drawing a sphere cutting to half so I thought okay maybe this will be easy but that's just me that's just visual thinking guys it's not as easy as it seems and towards the end of the challenge I really really struggled um um so we start off with very basic prompts in the beginning drawing Circ drawing spares and then cutting them in half then drawing a row of spares then cutting each of the spere in the row in half um and then we move on to cylinders and cubes and then stack those cubes and then we just uh create complex shapes out of the forms which we learned and then from there we go and create um like extruding the shapes we learn extruding the shapes and you know like carving in the shapes um and from there we actually learn how to uh see images um as basic shapes or forms and then constructing images based out of shapes and forms and this is what the whole challenge is about it was quite fun I really did struggle um I initially thought I would be able to do it just using my pen but eventually what happened was that I was really scared of messing things up and um the pen lines seemed very dark and I didn't like the fact that the U artwork wasn't looking pretty anymore so I just decided to use a pencil so wherever possible I would use a pencil in the beginning and once I've established everything if I was feeling more um I would say confident I would just go in and like outline with the pen especially figures where we where I was supposed to draw overlapping shapes uh I found that if I was using pen directly I would be very confused and I couldn't see the form especially because they were overlapping so instead of that what I did was I used a pencil to draw in the overlapping shapes and then I would go over uh the shapes using pen so that I can erase out the overlapping parts of it and that worked like a charm eventually um I was able to understand how forms work um I wouldn't say that I'm a master at it at this point but um I think I got a good understanding of uh forms uh and at towards the end we go into perspective and that's kind of like um the most perspective work I've done in like years uh I think when I was like younger and when I first started drawing I was doing I was interested in drawing a few backgrounds but eventually I stopped drawing backgrounds altoe and um so I never really had to use perspective um there were like few moments in my art career I thought okay I'm going to draw backgrounds now but or like I would draw for shortened uh in for shortened figures but I never ended up following through and they still look weird even through date and uh I think like in this uh art challenge something which I really really learned was um two-o perspective uh I never really thought that I would learn twoo perspective that way I mean now it feels very intuitive because I understand what is happening in a two-point perspective and um so that's kind of like my biggest takeaway from this whole art challenge uh I still find the extruding and carving in part of the shapes a bit confusing I think that needs a bit more practice and um but that's completely okay uh because as I said like I was trying to do this whole 30-day challenge in just under 3 hours um it was still split across 2 days so um it I wasn't doing it like in one sitting but it's still uh I feel like one needs a lot more practice to actually get comfortable with drawing shapes and forms and I really don't understand why I've never F focused on fundamentals uh I always like try to guess when I first began drawing I did start with the fundamentals in a way like probably I wasn't starting with learning to draw a circle or a spear or a cylinder or a cube but at least you know I was using those basic guidelines of how to draw a human face but um still uh I never really understood why drawing forms or why drawing spe or like shapes was very important but um I do did find that it makes drawing a lot more comfortable um I was not very Comfort like especially when I draw hands I try to avoid drawing hands even now uh but especially when I draw hands I find I thought I knew the shapes you know like drawing a square or cube for the Palm and drawing cylinders for your fingers but um I feel like it was much more easier once I did this exercise uh once I finish this art challenge compared to when I was not drawing anything like this uh and that is something I am um like uh I was like I always thought that I knew how the forms and shapes look like but I think this challenge really helped me understand them and um it was also quite fun like um there was this one part where I was drawing a coffee cup and uh just to challenge myself I just decided that um I'm just going to wing it so I didn't use a pencil at that point I was just directly taking my pen and I was just trying to copy what Mark was doing uh so that I can ensure that okay I'm drawing the exact same thing um Mark actually drew a s for that but I did not coffee cup was enough and um because I understand the forms better I think that I did a much good much better job at drawing The Coffee Cup than when I initially um like before this art challenge um and eventually like um one of my favorite Parts um in this challenge was like drawing a maze into Pro two point perspective uh like I feel like Mark was still drawing on a digital tablet I guess um but what I I had like this small A5 um Sketchbook and I was only using one page of it um and my two points were so close by like the maze looked super skewed and I struggled a lot when I was drawing that but it also helped me understand the twoo perspective quite well and uh I guess like that was the most interesting thing that I've done in like in a while actually not only in this challenge so I think like that's pretty much what I wanted to share um regarding uh this challenge I really enjoyed it um but again coming back to why I wanted to do this um as I mentioned earlier this year like at the beginning of this year I wasn't feeling very confident in drawing and um I always wondered if you know like I mean this year like I was having serious realizations and one of the things I was thinking especially like in the last few weeks was that am I even interested in drawing anymore um because that's a big one uh I never really thought about it uh um but because I was feeling like everything was such a chore these days so I felt like maybe I wasn't interested in drawing anymore I mean I did said the same thing about web comics couple of weeks ago that maybe I wasn't interested in drawing web comics anymore uh but I couldn't Let It Go um usually it happens I always say that say things but then I can't let things go and I met met with a friend and we would we got to talking and my friend said maybe you know I don't really follow through things till the end and maybe that's why I was feeling like it was too much effort because I couldn't see the end of it like I was drawing web comics but if I start a web comic right now but the story got to a point where it was so massive that even if a few years pass by maybe that will never finish and the whole thought of working on a story for a couple of years just scared me quite a bit and then I thought you know I would go swiw make some games or like make a visual novel out of the story but then the whole thought of like because it's not easy making games is not easy either but the whole thought of like um seeing it through till the end kind of scared me because um because these are such big commitments that I felt like I couldn't try anything more I thought that I would lose all the freedom uh that I had uh when you know like if I was creating content for you guys especially if I was like just creating um a series of web comic content I feel like I could never try things out if I defined a niche for myself and uh that's kind of like my biggest fear online I especially um like that I would be only known as like this person who does only this kind of thing I guess uh it's not a bad thing certainly but I just feel like I would want to experiment sometimes and when I do I don't want to I am overthinker so I kind of worry a lot and if I do web comic a series of web comic um videos and people expect me to post videos related to web comics but all of a sudden I want I post a video on a game development I just worry that I'm disappointing a lot of people online and uh that really scares me in a way but anyway uh now that I've said it I think I'll be fine with this whole thing um so recently I was because of all these thoughts I was very worried about what I was going to draw and what I was going to you know uh put out uh to the world to for for it to see and um and that kind of prevented me from creating videos or even enjoying drawing uh because I felt like um I put myself too much uh in into a corner and I couldn't really enjoy drawing and I really considered quitting art in between uh because all my goals related to art seem did didn't seem possible um so I really did consider it in between but then this challenge it was so fun it was very refreshing and I just realized I just needed to learn art again like from the GetGo and um just learn the fundamentals and be able to draw anything and maybe you know like uh okay it's fine maybe the audience changes but eventually maybe I'll find people who actually enjoy like visual novels as much as web comics as much as me creating some stationary or me posting some stick figures maybe one day I'll find such an AUD audience um and I hope that uh when we find each other uh we can you know stick together for a long time uh so with that hope I think I'm going to end this video and and um thank you so much guys for following me and uh I really appreciate it I am always worried about uh diverging too much content wise uh but if you made it till the end uh with me I just know that I really appreciate you uh so thank you and if you haven't tried this challenge I highly recommend it um and let me know how it goes tag me in and I'll definitely watch your videos thank you and I hope you have a nice day bye
