The Future £100m STAR & Chelsea HIT Wolves for Six! The Football Fill-In S3 Ep 2

Remembering Sven-Goran Eriksson [Music] happy Bank call day Monday Lads um same to you benj it's a nice like chill start to the episode this weekend because we were going to come in with a big intro and go what weekend of football Chelsea were incred they B but we're just going to have a little chitchat about what we did at the weekend don't we man Cole's nice and quiet firstly missing Mark from the hot seat yeah missing Mark hopefully hope next week hopefully next week won't I've got a little present for Mar next week as well actually have oh he's definitely coming it's nothing major but it's a little present we were down at tailor made Wen we had got some new clubs measured up the other day um and they sent me my clubs have arrived by the way they're phenomenal already um and they've sent a little present for Mark oh Sam from Taylor Ma so so we'll give it to him on the show next week um good weekend though Lads very nice I were celebrating my wife's sister's 40th birthday down in Northampton yes very nice great how about you Benway uh lovely went to a uh Festival on Saturday uh with the fam it got we got absolutely rained on but we didn't care we had a wicked time um and then yesterday I had big Bo as my and his family around it was lovely it was it was Lov talking goalkeeping talking goalkeeping we' went and played a little bit of two touch in the garden I think I've hurt my Patel attendant a little bit but how's B to touch these days um he's all right he's not quite as mobile as what he used to be um okay okay um it was good it was funny at least what about you mate um yeah kraing mate had a gravel kind of bike ride with my mates yesterday amazing windy yesterday right yeah it was but we went down like canal and did some little off Route track new bikes Tom as well yeah new grael bike but yeah it was Mega so much fun I need to take you on this route guys both you it's like starts from lemington it's like it's it's fantastic all right did we watch any football though yeah all of it of course it all ready to go on theot I were dipping in and out of it so but I've definitely watched all the highlights we've watched everything um who should we start with should we start with Chelsea can we start with Wolves Chelsea yeah we'll start with Wolves Chelsea what a bad star for the season for wolves by the way yeah mate it's it's you're a wolves fan yeah do you know what I'm a wolves fan and we got absolutely pumped yesterday um was it yesterday or Saturday yesterday yesterday yeah it was yesterday wasn't it we got absolutely pumped yesterday um but I said to wat like before the game it felt like a bit of a throwback game in terms of like one it was really exciting yeah but secondly the amount of times like the the players both teams Chelsea in particular They Carried the Wolves 2-6 Chelsea ball like took on players it was crazy we said early didn't we but I think that might might have been down to C certainly moresa for Chelsea thinking look he he fancies his wide players obviously will get onto Sterling and why he's not in and whatever and of course he's such a talent but I think he really fancies some of the the players in that Chelsea team if they can isolate him on a One V one they'll have go and get past him rather than the ingate pass got Pace they've got pace and they've got players willing to want to take that's the difference is having the the idence to want to take a player on and beat them I was really worried for wo how easily they were counted on it was embarrassing at times virtually every goal that Chelsea scored was from them Counterattack numbers and they were just overloading wolves weren't getting back quick enough Chelsea was just way too quick and they were just cutting them open mate it could have been 109 yesterday it was ridiculous yeah it was a really open game but it surprised me because obviously we spoke about wolves last week um and only getting beat two at arsenals probably not a bad start and we actually were quite critical of are in the goals for the two goals so I didn't expect them to be as exposed as that and Chelsea obviously a tough start against City but they went into the game free flowing really on the front foot but I don't I probably think they were quite surprised how wide open wolves were in especially in that transition yeah how easy it was for I think there's so much negativity about Chelsea and probably rightly so because the way that they the way the club has run the way that they've been doing it is not a model that's going to work for me it's not going to work it's it's having played football and seeing what giving long contracts to young players does to them it's not going to work it's as simple as that we'll talk about Raheem Sterling again and a l i know a load of people have spoke about it about on the pitch though fuzzy on the pitch this is what I I was about to come on to fair play to them though on the pitch it looks like moresa has a set way of playing football and he's got probably 16 17 18 players that he wants and that's it and he wants in his team and suit the system that he wants to play and they were devastating yesterday they were they were on devast not I know it was easy for them because wolves were very poor but for them all to be on the same page and knowing that when they are counter attacking everybody goes together yeah that's a big problem I watched Liverpool yesterday they did the same thing on the Counterattack Liverpool it is frightening if In fairness though if you're going to play against a Liverpool or a Chelsea and you know they've got that much Pace when you get a set piece or a corner for you it might be your worst nightmare because if that ball doesn't me beat the first man or gets cleared to the 18 yard box and it's not you that's picking it up they're going to Counterattack on you and they're going to score cuz they're going to be faster than you it's the level isn't it it's like I mean to be fair like you said there's a lot going on off the pitch at Chelsea but they they look really good yesterday but I've got to ask you um manow scores a hattick he was in the Press obviously before the That Madueke Post… game Botto so he's he's come out and said um put a picture on I think was it Twitter or Instagram saying everything about this place is sh in reference to wolver ampton he's not wrong though is he I'm only joking I'm only joking you know what right what I would say is it's very different bowling round nightsbridge yeah it is on the K yeah on the King's Road then dead wol rampton City Center I think it would have been a cultural shock to him when he had a little pre-match walk and he saw the environment not necessarily that you put it out the in the uh public domain but first play to him he apologized and he he let his footb he got the wrong Instagram account he put another picture he put another story out afterwards saying um uh sorry guys wrong wrong Instagram account so he's obviously got a personal one that he probably meant to send it to all his mates his close mates and but he's managed to put it on his main account um but it doesn't matter the second you press send that's it it's getting screenshoted and it's getting spread around game over game over mate so when he turns up to the game he better deliver because he get got booed like from the very get-go he got booed like you wouldn't believe right and then he scores a hat trick and then he went and scored a hat trick so every time he touched the ball he's getting booed but still managed to step upore he's going to be forever hated he's going to be alongside Ben Foster yeah with the most hated man in Wolverton hated fantastic can we talk about Cole Palmer fuzzy yeah brilliant incredible just it that was yesterday was his dream sort of game where they're countering attacking he's got time he's got space and he is able to get his head up and just swap players in just roll players in it was so easy for him I mean like you said though W how much time did he have yeah I mean for a player of his talent if you give him that time and space I mean every pass just wait it's just rolled in for for a simp yeah but like there were no How good is Cole Palmer? pressure from the front there were no pressure from behind I mean for wolves it was just a disastrous scenario for Palmer it says here on the stats 15 goals 10 assists in the Premier 2024 I mean that's just incredible He's A Step Above the Rest of that Chelsea team uh and if we talk about what happened last year when they're going for 50 mil I mean it looks like the snip of the century now um and maybe maybe Man City will be thinking what if would have should have could have but I think I said it a minute ago there about giving long contracts to young players thankfully I think you wouldn't have to worry about that with Cole Palmer he would be one of the exceptions to the rule because that kid you put him on a pitch on a Saturday afternoon I don't care if he's on half a million quid a week or 10,000 a week he will still do the same job for it he don't care is that a mentality thing that's a mentality thing he's just he's just a winner he's just a footballer he wants to play he wants the ball at his feet and he wants to play he don't care all all this all the noise all the sound once he's on the pitch he don't hear it he just he just wants to play mentality wise he reminds me a little bit of like Wayne Rooney in the fact that he just wants to go out on the football pitch and and that's it he takes over he forgets the noise he forgets the like he he he knows how to play football really effectively really really effectively and he don't care about the tactics he don't care he knows what he's supposed to be doing at every given moment and he just goes out there and does it and he don't put out on Instagram when he's on that bus or having a walk around wol rampton he's not bothered what it looks like he knows what a grass pitch looks like and he's more than happy to go and deliver on that grass pitch XG right so just quickly wat you you've obviously been a coach Premier League England for for a very long time I want to talk to you very quickly before we move on about XG because there's a stat that um young Jamie did here for us which is despite the result wolves actually had a higher XG 1.92 versus 1.56 suggesting they were unlucky what what do you make of this nonsense I would suggest that that tells me that wolves probably got in their box four or five times and they had some big opportunities but the amount of momentum and opportunities Chelsea had going the other way and the chances probably weren't as high but I thought they were really clinical on the chances and I think that's that's where the difference is the Wolves chances where you actually get your final contact in between the post six yards out would have really lifted the stat where um Chelsea I mean some of the finishing J Felix's goal I mean it's an incredible pass but it's an incredible finish that wouldn't be a that wouldn't be a high rated chance it would just the he's a phenomenal footballer and passed it in and made it look easy where I think the Wolves goals you know they obviously poking it in on the set play on the second contact it's in between the post it's a massive XG opportunity but like you can have the stats whatever I mean like you said it could have been 109 would you look at it as a CO when you were like in every day was XG something that you as a coaching team looked at well you'd look at it because Do Coaches look at xG? you'd want to know who those chances fell to so if you had a high XG and you're Center forward or the attacking players if them Chances Are Falling to them guys and you're not converting then you've got some work to do on the training field to make that output be become better because if you have got an exg and it's fall into your attacking players not your midfielders or your defend defensive type players in set plays you've got to get better at converting them so that would give you something to work on in the front half XJ is brilliant and all that but it's it's about the quality of the player that that chance Falls right so if you had a if you had an XG of three per game yeah guaranteed each team had an XG of three but I had tiar enri up front for me yeah I would expect tiar hry to be putting a couple of those away yeah if I had no disrespect to Darwin Nunes for example right I wouldn't be expecting him to be putting to away I wouldn't because he is not as clinical as my Striker well let's this this leads quite nicely on to Viller Arsenal yeah so I think it just you chalk Ole Watkins yesterday just a bad day at the office bad day at the office uh it was just a bad day at the office it was a bad day at the office right butg wise David ryer we have to talk about this Save By the way W please oh my goodness this save from David ryer from ole Watkins header This David Raya SAVE… is up there as one of the I don't think there's many other goalkeepers in the world that save this and I'll tell you why right I'll tell you why David rer is about 6'2 6' one maybe right he's not the biggest of goalkeepers okay and weight was and sizewise he's probably 80 kilo right he's not a as a goalkeeper go he's not very big whatsoever um from the moment that he reaches to try and get the original shot he doesn't touch it hits a crossbar drops down from that moment to him hitting the floor and him getting back up I don't think I've seen anybody as quick as that before in my life to get up that quickly from the floor right a heavier goalie you you're still moving bounced off the floor it's phenomenal I need to know right behind the goal line is it astro turf or not it's grass is it just pure grass V at some stadiums you only have that much three four inches behind the line tur right at Villa Park is a the the ground is known for being hard it's a hard surface right it's a very very hard surface if that's a soft pitch and it's softer he don't get up in time I promise you this yeah he doesn't get up in time because it's too slow you're still sliding he hits that floor and he is up so so quickly I still watch it back now and I'm thinking it's impossible to hit the floor stop and get back up again that quick it's phenomenal even just as a you know a Layman get not a goalkeeping expert obviously I watched it and thought that is remarkable quick a bigger goal he doesn't get anywhere I just he can't get up that quick I just thought the whole thing with the components because it's deflection on the first shot he's quite high he has a couple of steps then has to move to his right as the deflections gone then he comes back to his left he's getting his hand up and and to be fair the ball wouldn't have gone in I know he don't touch it but the loop he got the agility to get back EXA but he ends up a yard and a half behind the line and at that point look he gets up he sees the balls at the bar and he sees Watkins coming into Power this header but how he got from that point and then the spring and Agility it is the actual save once he's up the save is it's fairly routine it's a fairly comfortable save but it's the the the magic bit the magic part of all of it is the hitting the ground and back up again is phenomenal do you think olle because obviously people are saying olle Watkins should have glanced it and put it in the other corner but you think Ole watkins's mindset is I'm just nodding it I'm just scoring yeah because he knows that that 99% of other goalies and even getting up in time so even if he heads it straight at the goalie it's still probably going to go in off the goalie for David ryer to be up and in control of all his faculties yeah is phenomenal H I think he thought he he only had to head it not only the fact that that R were down that he could see that he's behind the line yeah so he's thinking I just punch a header he's behind the line it's in so to get up and then get your body weight and momentum to drive look we always talk about attacking the ball forward but he's a yard and a half behind the line he bounces up and attacks the ball go straight forward yeah uh um and this is the the part about goalkeeping we can talk for hours about what Watkins should have could have whatever but the components that Rya put together to make that save is what's the the big thing because it's phenomenal to even be anywhere near that ball fuzzy when you talk about Morgan Rogers because he stood out yeah he was lovely um I saw a The future £100m PLAYER! nice little compilation that Mark goldbridge did actually um and he we missed Mark yeah I know we do yeah and he was Mark was singing his Praises like a canary genuinely buzzing off him he was um and rightly so as well because yeah he just how big and strong but yeah and that the point there's there's not too many Midfield players this season going to make rice and party look look very ordinary him yeah he was so powerful phenomenal wasn't he yeah he he looked the real deal you can have you can have people who are good on the ball and can run with it nicely but powerfully run with it yeah when somebody hasn't got the ball it's much easier for them to use their body weight to get across you and try and muscle you off it but when you're in control of the ball you have to forgo a bit little because you're trying to be really delicate with the ball he he he has got everything absolutely absolutely everything I saw Le endry afterwards saying if he could just add goals to it he would be he's 100 million pound player and he would be that's the part that remains to be seen but everything else was just a breeze for him an absolute Breeze yeah he he looked really impressive but to be honest uh I watched the game live and I really enjoyed watching the game I thought it were two phenomenal teams two phenomenally well coached teams I saying to Tom ofair that I thought emry had got it spot on the really tight allowing Arsenal to play around him and anytime they played in between they were on the front foot and obviously we know about Watkins miss the or the magical save from reyya but when they Nick the ball off Gabrielle and he rolled it into him he should just stroke it in left foot and and it's a goal but emry had set him up for that one moment and he's thinking it's felt to the main man in our team and and he put it wide and obviously for Arsenal it's a statement win Villa beat him twice last year but I think if Villa would have got that first goal they wouldn't have got beat no it would it have been a completely different I I would not I would not want to be anybody playing against these two teams genuinely these two teams could be anybody and I'll even put Man City into that I think if it's Arsenal Man City Villa versus Man City it's a it's a proper game so do you think Champions League again for Villa as in do you think that top four is a genuine possibility genuine possibility again like I I just think the way like what I said there the way that they're coached of how well coached they are are as well they're so drilled Arsenal are the same though like you've got to say to Arsenal it's a fantastic win for Arsenal by the way but they are so well coached and everybody works so hard in it don't they work so so hard been loving it it were like a pest team of all both teams against the ball old style 442 yeah but front footed committed as well that's a bit there you can have you can have drilled and you can have lovely fairy Francy player mate every one of them are big strong men who are committed to trying to do it properly it were a proper game of football and and a credit to the coaches the managers the players and the Premier League um the the one the one bit that I found quite entertaining and you're talking about the physicality and the strength of these players is when mcin and white were blasting balls up convention oh my God but it all starts because celba and Watkins are having a little rooll in the corner and celba is so strong with him but basically brushes it off and mcin thinks right I have to get some physicality in it but I thought the ref actually handled it quite well hand it really well and they're the sort of players you need in your team you know you need Ben White because he's got a nasty you need a John mcin he's got a nasty little bit about him but I guarantee you they' have Shu hands at full time they'd have been absolutely sweet you Ben White is emerging as one Is Ben White returning to England team? of the biggest hous he in the Premier Le I love him mate I do I absolutely love him he's got everything about him he has he's got absolutely he's a class player he's a winner back in the England fold now he would remains to be seen what the England coach is going to be and how that those conversations go but by the sounds of it he wants to go and start getting back involved in it again which would be good to see as well and what about Arsenal do they need another forward we've spoke about do they need a nine but they scored bucket loads of goals last season but just looking at their situation Do Arsenal need another forward? Jesus injured Anda rumors of him going to Forest viir has been loaned out um do they need another body in the only the only I don't know about that I'm not sure it remains to be seen but the only thing I would say is that it would change the way that they play a little bit if they did get an out and out number nine it would change the way that they play they're so good at interchanging and overlapping and switching sides and you go there if you had a number nine they just stay there that's that guy that stays there like an erling highland he just stays there and Man City have had to change the way that they play as well it works for them because they've got well beaters all over the pitch I don't know if it would necessarily suit Arsenal um I love Leandro Trad though the second he comes on you think he enjoys scoring that goal yest mate his celebration just absolute bothered but the way how see how clinical he is though Leandro Trad is Hon's I think he's so underrated as a player so so underrated works so hard does it properly takes his goals really really well he when he came on actually he was he was a difference he was he was that bit of quality that when he came on a tiring kind of vill team and he was the one that started is this not the the level that Arsenal are getting to now where they've got players like that to come on and then look at Timber obviously last season was it his first game he did his Cru last season he's come in this this year watching some analysis saying I thought he would a big perform on the ball he's getting in the ball which then allows Ard to kind of and rise to push further up and what did you make of him I thought he were phenomenal and obviously had a real bad injury and it's taken him a year or so to to get back into it but for Arsenal he's a it's not been over critical of zinchenko but he's a step above that level and I and I thought he played the position really well obviously steps in into that Midfield area to create an overload and more space but I think in One V one defending when he got isolated there were a couple of times Viller had a good transition and he stood up defended defended let his team get back and he looks the real deal and I think him if they can keep him fit and at it I think that puts their level up another percentage to get closer to city and I'm a bit like fuzzy I'm not sure about the center forward look any team should want to if they if they've got 50 60 million and you can afford to buy a proper Center forward whoever he may be it would make a difference to your team but I think Arsenal have got a set way of playing now and maybe Tony he couldn't play like that no he couldn't play even though I really like him as a center forward if you go to the guy from Napoli o you know he's a different Dynamic and havitz has done really well Jus when he's fit we know what he can do so I'm not quite sure either which sounds really Bonkers because normally if there's a center forward available and you've got that 50 60 million and you can put him in you'd think they're that close to City it would make a difference but I'm I'm not quite so sure either I think they've got a way of playing and I think I think they're getting closer and closer to city like you said though Bennett like it's the way they play they scored over 90 goals last season they clearly don't need a 30 goals I I don't know if it's a case of they don't need it but it's just a it's a it's a direct conflict to the way that they play it is it's a direct it's the opposite to way to the way they play and it's almost like you're accommodating one player so 10 others have to change the way that they play and the style of the team has to be completely different compare considering it's something that you've worked on for years now Mel L has been working at this team doing it like this for years so um I don't know it' be interesting to see that if intier does um does go and join Forest that they might have a bit of extra cash a bit of extra wages to go and spend on something so we'll see what they bring in talking about number nines forwards two of your old teammates at Ben’s insight on Joao Pedro! Brighton yeah okay mate how good is J Pedro J Pedro brilliant did could you when you were with him right by the way did you see his pre-match postmatch interview he couldn't speak a word of English two years ago when you were with him could he that's that's only because he didn't want to speak to him yeah mate honestly his postmatch interview for we could get him as a guest on theast he's so good now he is so good but you can see as a player just talking about him as a player you can see as soon as he signed he's got the he's got the Devil in him he has he's got that Devil in him mate he's got that little nasty he'll get in amongst it he'll head people people's heads he wants to win he wants to get on the ball um and he's he's a lovely L genuinely he just looks like he's elevated his game like when he was at Watford he was like playing as a nine he was playing a bit all over the shot he was playing on the wing he was playing in the hole he the kind of the guy and Troy was saying was it last week on the show he was speaking to Tony Bloom and said watch him this season we're going to play him more as a 10 but him and wack looked a million dollars didn't they what I I really enjoyed watching that game yeah and there were a spell in the game where both managers have been pulling their air out cuz it went ping pongy and both teams were trying to win it but there were two good sides I would say but I thought Brighton deserved I thought Brighton would a bit better United had that spell when they got the goal disallowed rightly so obviously were a little bit unlucky there gacho obviously and H CI on the line but they had a 10 or 15 minute spell but other than that I thought Brighton controlled the game better and looked a little bit better drill and and the individuals within that certainly looked better look United were playing without a center forward so Fernandez is up there and he's trying to do his best isn't he um rashford obviously had a moment or two but he he was offside too many times in the game and Mak him poor runs and poor decisions you could see that Brighton had been drilled and get that High Line and they just had to be clever with the play Man United But ultimately it was a good game Welbeck still scoring at his age and keeping fit phenomenal but the the point I wanted to come on to when I were watching the game is the fact that both teams made a lot of changes late in the game and then Brighton get that corner 94 minutes and Watto breaks down Brighton’s winner uh momy's come on a sub and he goes into that front Zone it's a deep corner and obviously done set pieces for probably 10 12 15 years or whatever it's difficult when you make the changes but you've got to you you've got to know that when you do your team meetings and your practice on Match Day minus one that everybody is watching and aware of what's potentially going to happen so mcdy comes on in the first Zone it's a deep ball first off he goes back to the line now that might be a tactic for Man United but as he steps up when the ball then gets cleared and I know they should do better on the edge of the box but normally on when you're zonal you've only got two or three man markers so when when you're zonal when that ball gets cleared to the edge you got to fan and spread so you cover the whole Zone but momy looked like he'd never been in that position and if the penalty spots fuz his cup then every man united player F into these positions and as soon as they play the Good ball in and he steps inside nobody blocks the cross they'd got a 3v nothing at the back post because they'd fann diagonally into this position instead of spreading and covering the width of the six-yard box in the goal and what it does as well is it tells you though that like very basic obvious defending right is when a ball is about to get P into the ball like that the left back should be at least in line with the back post the two Center halfes in between the post and the the right back on the front post that's like you've got a bit of cover there at least yeah so if the ball is going to come in it has to go further back so it's a lesser of two evils they're nowhere near it their their their furthest man is just past the penalty spot in terms of there were three of them lined up honestly mate it's absolutely again going on to what o said there about mctom is what you do is when you have your starting lineup you have your starting 11 players and every player is really drilled on knowing what they're doing at set pieces so your job at set pieces is you filling that there that space that zone you pick up him you have that Runner that that's what you do right and then you'll get the subs on the bench who kind of just think well I ain't starting I ain't really going to pay attention to the setpiece meeting I'm not going to really look at the board too much like that they it doesn't really seep into them and that's the problem you've got you really need to drill them so when they're about to come on the manager coach whatever setpiece coach should be saying right mate Corner this is where you go and if the ball gets cleared you step up to that position that you can't have three players at the back I think that's the problem the B is and obviously fortunate to work in the game a long time but when you first start and you're doing the set pieces you only think about the first Contact and then the the actions done in training but obviously in a proper match the second and third phase and I think that's where I got better as a set Peaks coach and I'm not being Ultra critical because they may well have done the work but on that second and third phase that's the important bit where you've got to latch on to unmark players and fill zones so you can protect the whole areas of the thing so the second and third phase is actually now where teams try and attack you more because if you score a first Contact setpiece goal they're particularly rare in the modern game it's all it's the recycle recycling of the ball and the second and third action where you can catch a team out and that's where they're vulnerable and that's where man so like Bas putting it into layman's terms then so after that first Contact when it's come back in are they just ball watching them basically and they've all got towards the layoff wide is as soon as he plays it into him they've all gone because it's so it's so bad because it's so narrow so you think like you said Ben about Basics that anyone know with that back back post kind of thing it's the ball watching it's exactly what you said there is ball watching right man united have got so focused on going right where's that ball I'm going to keep moving with that ball the Brighton players are doing the exact opposite they're doing the exact opposite they are trying to pull away and create spa and so they're thinking oh they're not watching here it's like hide and seek genuinely it's like hide and seek they're thinking they're not watching just keep going keep going they still haven't sorus Lads by the time the ball comes in all of them man united players must have turned around and looked at the back post saw them three players and gone oh no but that's what it looked like to me as an ex set P scure if you like that there's one team here not done the work on the second and third phase and there's a team here Brighton who have not scored on a first Contact but know that on a recycle where's the vulnerable area and they've got it Bob on so even though it's so late in the game it will fair play to him I thought they just did Manual Kipper on that action just a couple of things before we go on to City yeah rashford yeah you've got garnacho starting on the bench yesterday yeah it's going to come a point very soon Should Rashford be dropped? where he's going to get dropped isn't he yeah he has to it's as simple as that he has to gacho would be an automatic starter for me anyway just because of his work rate I love I love him as a player I think he's fantastic and he gets into 90% 95% of every Premier League team um because just because of his quality alone but his work rate is the bit that in modern day football is it's a given now you have to have that work rate and rashford he looks like he's working but it's not proper work it's not intense right up in people's faces doing it as part of a team that's what garnacho does so he he has to start from and what about the xer Z was he unlucky there what did you make of it because I I wasn't sure when I was watch honestly I was watching the game with Ethan at home and I was we we we both screamed offside and I thought they were so unlucky look when he gets wide and he's driving that ball in you want the guy in the middle driving in to try and Zirkzee and that VAR goal decision get a tap in he's not aware that gono's coming in behind him and to be fair to him gacho I didn't think he got the cleanest contact and I thought it'd come off just off the back of his heel and that's why he didn't punch it into the front half of the goal but xer is slid in trying to trying to get a what would have potentially been a winning goal and I I just hoped for him that his knee would actually over the line and counted because he were going to come in for some criticism I think he's really unlucky I mean we talked about ryer earli in the show about how he can somehow stop get your body but that's a a free one in a million he'll have slid in in training a thousand times trying to get that contact for a finish and somebody behind him but to hit him I thought United were really really unlucky on that point yeah it's fine lies that's football okay fuzzy City uh city ipswitch looked like a dream start with smodic yeah getting that early goal um I don't know I don't know whether scoring early on against City at the ety had is a good thing or not to be perfectly honest because it makes Man City go all right well we're just going to really go for it now instead of just going for it we were going to really go for it um fantastic start for them but you knew what was coming you did you knew what was coming um I felt for the I City demolish Ipswich rich goalkeeper uh big Mich um you just can't do that you can't do that at the etti had you know that man city are going to press you you know it it's a fact you can't dither on the ball and get caught like he did the second goal the same sort of thing really dithered C sort of caught in no man's land didn't end up affecting anything they'd roll the ball into the back of the net um and when you go away to Man City you need your goalie to be on top form and saving as many as he possibly could he did make a world class save later on in the second half um fzy fzy just quickly with that one so with that second one where Harland kind of um you know knocked it in yeah is that just a climatizing to the pace of the Premier CU he hesitated no he he's he's he's in a position there where he's already made a mistake early doors it's playing on his mind it will do guaranteed um he's still trying to be a frontf footed goalkeeper still trying to fill that space and sweep up behind his Defenders and he's in a great position to start with when the ball gets put put over there's a Defender that sort of looks like he might be able to get it or not doesn't quite get it but it's at that point that's the difference where a real kind of experienced frontf footed goalie goes I know my Defenders not going to get that and I'm going to be on the front foot so I guarantee you if ering Highland's running through and he sees big Mur coming at him Highland's moving out the way man I don't care how big ering Highland is if m is running towards you you move out the way and let him clear everything up and if he' have carried on and just gone for it he'd have got it and he'd have cleared it and he'd have snuffed it out but he didn't he hesitated in the second you hesitate in the Premier League dead another hattick mate for um for erlin is he GNA get 40 this season dra well I think he's the one player who could possibly reach that Mark the only caveat to that really is obviously his Fitness and we've seen that Guardiola the first time we'd never changed a a starting 11 since March 2022 so it's whether Howland stays fit and when they get deep into the Champions League whether he wants him to keep fresh but if he can play certainly against all the bottom half teams and the newly promoted teams the way City plays certainly at home he he's on to beat every record I mean he he's phenomenal but like fuzzy said look you you stoked the fire didn't you scoring early against him and you know s gets a a rash tackle it's a penalty yeah and mck makes two mistakes within 3 minutes because he's dithered as you said then it's on his mind they're playing a deep block IPS which like there's no need to be so high and wanting to be in that position and from that point on actually they did really well to somehow stay at 31 to half time I know uh City rattled the bar a couple of times and should have done X Y or Zed but in the end it would have walk in theart for Man City simple simple as that nothing it doesn't surprise it it genuinely doesn't surprise um I'm just absolutely fuming because on the morning of the game I was that close the triple I was that close I promise you to Triple captain in half a million people triple captain Oh that close as well we had we had a decent game week I think I got 96 points you got 92 good mate not bad I'm talking of Records we were chatting off camera I read something earlier on yeah um Virgil Van dijk's 100th home Premier League game for Liverpool yeah how many has he lost or have they lost Ben four two Slot’s super start at Anfield pathetic it's pathetic it's unbelievable I I guess one so um it's pathetic that's absolutely ridiculous um did you watch the get this game yes I did inde Liverpool um ruthless ruthless manate absolutely ruthless again talking about counterattacks that first goal that they scored jotter just how underappreciate not under appreciate and what's the word I know what you mean he doesn't it's all Salah and kdb's and mate them guys are worth the Wai in Gold honestly the way that he runs away with that ball the pace of the ball to Lou Lou Diaz as well into space to run onto it absolutely perfectly I'm looking at that brenford Defender thinking he's got a chance of getting in here Lou Diaz just speeds it up even more once he gets on top of the ball just yeah like I say we we said at the beginning of the show that when you're playing against these big boys especially your Liverpool's especially your your man cities and your arsenals sometimes you having a set piece a corner or a free kick where you commit bodies into the box it can be a it can be an absolute nightmare for for a team like brenford though there that's that's potentially where Tony when you've got a Tony play in especially yeah but they haven't and they didn't get a good ball into the box it gets cleared and that first person on the edge of the 18 Yard Box who's supposed to be backing it up for brenford didn't get there either that is game over I think for brenford they'll be disappointed because I think there I mean last year I think were just a one-off for them in terms of where the finished and how the the season panned out I think they're a really good football club a really good football team with an excellent manager and we know what their threats are on set pieces and they're probably the the the team in the Premier League that that work on it more than probably any other because of the stats and all these things that go with it so they would have really committed as they did thinking we're going to put Liverpool on the back foot but their their their golden opportunity that they see in their mind is the biggest weakness because even though you you set up when you've got people on the edge of the Box you lose them battles yeah the pace that Liverpool counter at you what were phenomenal but look Liverpool were the better team on the day they certainly Play Slightly more controlled than what klopp did and I was going to say if you no it's much changed yeah but I think Has much changed at Liverpool? klopp what a pressing machine from his Dortmund days and and took that into it high level and they're still press they're still a good pressing machine but I think slot coming in firing all Dutch Football I think it's a little bit more control a little bit more possession based but what they have and what they'll always have because of klopp's 9 years there is it's still in them and in the moments where the do press and there transitions they're phenomenal yeah that turnover Liverpool's turnover is is but that again it's has to be a coached thing everybody has to know that they have to be on the same page that when that ball does get cleared from the corner and when that man on the 18 Yard Box flicks it on or knocks it on everyone goes the whole team go and get up and it is back to front as quick as possible but it was frightening how fast they broke they they look phenomenal don't they but then looking at the other side of the city now like you're looking at Everton oh mate what a tough start to the season really tough start to the season um listen you know that going away to Spurs if you can get all up in that face you A tough start for Everton… can make it a little bit difficult for you but if you don't and you let Spurs play they can pop you four or five it's as simple as a um but I think I saw who was it paty power or somebody like that I've already paid out on Everton getting relegated already really with two games thing is d a sea D team you know that they'll rally you know you know 100% that they'll rally but I think the worrying thing for me is like reading it here Everton have only got F 14 first team players available yeah you can only rally so much can't you yeah I think it's really difficult for him look you know the start at home last week to Brighton and everybody thinks that that that Everton should win that game Brighton now on Six Points Brighton are a phenomenal team yeah and I'm not being disrespectful to Everton it's tough with the number of players they've got and obviously they play a certain way and it's not as expansive as everybody would always like but it's normally solid but they've ConEd seven goals in two games um I mean pford had made three saves in the first 10 minutes before before the first goal comes in and and I just think they're up against it look they're missing bran weight big big miss my fear for an Everton is and I don't know where it sits with them is if they're in financial difficulty and they've potentially got to sell before the window and they're down to the Bare Bones and they lose one or two of even the better players and if they don't they potentially lose more points I don't know where it takes them because you can't keep like Dai does what he does and there there's not a better man for the job to keep him up for sure but what's the mentality within the group and I think if you're the goalie Pickford always plays well for England another good tournament and he comes in and two games in he thinking seven goals relegation battle again and and I think the whole thing the momentum's kind of starting to work against him and I'm not sure where to put Tottenham after Where does it leave Spurs? beating Everton for because they were just so much better and to me the the whole game were epitomized by vanen for the the the fourth goal he means a center half picks the ball up outside his box and he drives like an 100 million pound Midfield player or a number 10 like Bellingham all the way to the end of there box and says here on he just roll that in mate mate how impressive is he like for for a Defender like them again you do get Defenders that can do this right but then they might have to forego a bit of the physical to have that pace and strength whilst running with the ball he was just breezing past people running with the ball that's how like when you when you've got the ball you're normally slower than the person next year who's running alongside because they ain't got to worry about taking a touch on the ball and like messing their strides up and stuff like that he was still breezing past people with the ball um but that's bad news reverton that if you've got a big Center back like that striding through the middle of the park that's that's bad news da would be Dai would have been showing this video to the lads today I guarantee you and he will be picking holes he will be picking out the whole of this video I promise you so like with that W like having a center back that can do that and break through these lines that that's going to just cause chaos to another team isn't it yeah and and I think that's what Spurs are built on obviously they play more of the possession based football and they play certainly in tight area is but a bit like what we spoke about with Chelsea they've still got players and this is a center half who can drive stride be comfortable run pass players with a ball and I think Tottenham look I really liked him last year and and I said last week Sani even though he weren't fit for this game salani signing a center forward like that I think can be a big component for them I think they are a really very very very good football team I like uh the way they're coached and I like what they're trying to do but I think it's had to judge him on that game sank needs to SC obviously missed the game with a bit of an ankle injury hope it's not too bad but he needs to score ASAP he does he needs to score that's why he'll be spewing his miss that game he want to get off the mark yeah it's a big chance for him and Tottenham got a couple difficult games coming up now Newcastle away Arsenal home they're the ones that will be a real barometer of where Spurs are this season if they can get through them game get four points against Spurs and Arsenal that is a incredible return and and what about what about Everton fuzzy do you reckon what' you reckon do you know what I I I'm I'm not really sure I I trust in Shawn djk just being able to get Everton over the line I do I trust that he would be able to rally and find enough in there somewhere to be able to get them over the line um the three promoted teams this season are going to find it tough I actually quite like the look of ipswitch I really do I think they've got a bit about them that could really disrupt teams this season um but I do I I just I always just think Dy knows how to get it done B boy saviors goal scoring phenomenons fuzzy Thomas Bowen and Soucek to the rescue! such jarro boen um I love it um fair play because that poor kid was getting absolutely squished is what he was doing was he was getting squish I feared for him no were fearing for him I know we're laughing about it but like that could have been a bit more serious than that well couldn't it really u fair play to the boys for seeing it quickly and you know just like rescuing him basically um but this is a big win for westand this massive win for West Ham in fact and it's been a very poor start to the season for Crystal Palace who I actually had them as a bit of a course of this season um but West Ham they've bought some big players big signings in the summer um and you know players like suset players like jarab Bowen they're tried and trusted Premier League players and they will score you goals and they will win you games like they did so this is is a massive we win for them what have you noticed differently about West Ham this season what yeah I I think Lau is is a top top manager and um you know moy's always used to play with two Sitters in front of the back four I think he's playing more of a 433 now he's got one sitter in there and they're trying to be Progressive they're trying to be better with the ball for sure I mean they've got good players on the bench still now like pry on his sign a year ago for him can't can't get a game um they've change they've definitely changed up a little bit and yes they still going to be solid for sure but the not to win football matches you've got to be more Progressive and and maybe not as defensive and I think Villa going there last week and winning probably just give him a little bit of a wakeup call but I feel for us a little bit and I'm I'm really not sure how obviously guy he still getting talks about Newcastle but selling Anderson to I don't million it's not the it's not what you you want if you're a palace fan and obviously getting beat in the two games it's it's not great if I'm read yesterday sorry fuz I read yesterday that um Anderson was annoyed because Andersen’s move from Palace to Fulham! they didn't match the offer and allegedly he was on 75 grand a week at Palace and rumor is it that he's gone to on 150 now I don't this is obviously just what I'm reading fair do but straight away you can get it fair do um but still I just think it unsettles the team I think somebody like Anderson is a is's a guaranteed starter week in week out and he's so settled and stable and you know what you're going to get from him and I think sometimes a player's value doesn't really match their worth so I know you might have got 30 million quid for him but the Worth to the football club of how how stable he makes that team I don't know just think why bother why bother with messing it just give him another 25 30 grand a week he's happy you're happy you know he's going to be starting every Saturday afternoon sweet as enough but the only problem as well is though that that Palace will have now though is that everybody else knows they've got money so now that they've raised some money from selling these players Alis and Anderson every other club know that they've got money to spend so they can bump up the prices deadline day FR yeah we've got what 10 days no not even that we got L days Days gay if gayy goes they can't let Gay go that's they have to have something lined up Anderson Moving has absolutely killed gayy absolutely killed him because gay sees that and goes oh you bastard oh you that was my well he be texted him guaranteed I guarantee you he would have texted him and said can't believe you've done that to me obviously lighthearted but it has its no you're right they can't get rid of anymore because to be fair him going gay can't leave or they'd have to have Replacements lined up but what's the feel for E what's the feel for Warton you know two of their star performance as well um they've got they've got to knuckle down they've got to get to Friday actually lose no more try and get a couple in they won six games on the spin at the end of last season they've lost the first two momentum changes very quickly in football and they need to stabilize the ship very very quickly and really they'll be praying for the window no nothing else out and then we can work to stabilize the team but would in time a little bit for the fans for sure there okay um fham 2-1 leester leest they going to struggle a little bit this season I think why yeah well they've got a good result against Spurs didn't they but they're at home they've got the momentum promoted team coming up it's a game going away to Fulham and I think Fulham top 10 team 100% made some real real good signings this year potential maybe even a few more to come I think I think again well coached team Smith row comes in not quite what Etta wants for Arsenal to get to that next level you take you take him to Fulham basically guaranteeing you a top 10 and but Leicester would have seen this game as a chance and you think you can get to Craven Cottage nice ground to go to not particularly hostile and we can get something I think Fulham at home especially it's amazing really because like you say it's not it's not a hostile atmosphere it's not a tough place to go but when you're actually playing Fulham are incredible at home they always have been last season phenomenal at home I think they I I agree with you I think realistically for Fulham a top 10 would be incredible but even 11 12 it would be absolutely fine for them but I do worry for Leicester because I watched them against Tottenham last week Tottenham could have been out of sight within the first half they could have been five or six it really could have been managed to get the goal Jamie vardy managed to draw the game um it was a bit sort of out of nowhere really um I just worry that they probably haven't got enough quality and with the looming points deduction that well if they get points it's finished and they're just going to rely on home form yeah to get them over the line and maybe a little bit of V's experience you know if he can potentially get 10 plus for them it gives them a glimmer but they're going to concede to many goals Sunday afternoon game um Bournemouth Newcastle yeah it's always nice watching a 2m or isn't it like the preamble to the big one at 4:30 or 4:00 or what that's the napping game isn't it 2m it is I like that's where I'm starting to make dinner kind of thing I'm watching I might have like a beer on the go or a glass of red wine or something or two it's lovely it is um Newcastle um they were knocking at the door knocking at the door and I'm thinking they're going VAR saves Newcastle! to surely go and score more and more more and more war and they just it just wouldn't come it really wouldn't come and then Bournemouth had a late disallowed goal which we need to talk about because I'm still very 50/50 on it what yeah me too look I think Eddie Al said it after the game look not nobody on the bench none of the staff none of the players on the field complaining about the goal it will virtually the last kick they think the game is done and actually V's come out of nowhere and saved them when I watch it I think it's a very very harsh on I think it's more of a shoulder cuz it head and it flies off a little bit but it's up here it's not under the cut they say it's to do with the sleeve right so they say the cut off is the sleeve right but what I try and do is I try and imagine myself if I'm in that position and I'm going to head it right and it comes off here leing with a bit if if it comes off here I know he's he got a little bounce just before he's about to attack it right so that's what's made his body twist and that's where the ball is hit there hasn't hit any flesh it's hit the arm it's hit the the sleeve right but I still just think even that if I was the player that had scored that goal I would still be thinking the chance that's going to be dis allowed there a chance that's going to be look look at Eddie how after the game and he was clearly thanking it STS he absolutely buzzing absolutely but I think we're talking about it more the fact that it's been disallowed I think if it had been allowed we'd have all said you know what I think that's fair news I'm I'm more against the V disallow it if I'm honest because I thought it should have gone in the I understand when it's an arm and a you know real hey look there's been some soft ones ruled out but like that it didn't seem like a proper and ball to me and I thought they were very unlucky probably in the end it would a fair Result One a piece if I'm honest it's a long way down for Newcastle and their fans to go and get something on a Sunday afternoon Bournemouth I think are a good team and certainly a good team at home but I think they were a little bit unlucky for that goal to be ruled out but I think the result were fair I think the one point for me were what you think to Joe linton's clothesline on Netto I think I think that would that the harshest thing in the about this right so if this is clearly it's it's in the it's in the other end of the pitch right now if that was one-on-one last man he's getting a Joelinton WWE move, yellow or red?! red card this is last minute of the game it's it's a professional foul it's cynical yellow doesn't feel like quite enough but red would be too much back back in the day right it for yellow and nobody's even worrying about it with how football progress now and the laws are so much stricter and Tighter and there's replays of absolutely everything you can see the intent you can see his eyes where he's looking as he's running as he's about to do it as he's about to commit the crime you can see everything right that's a big counter attack he's keeps going it's a red card in by the letter of the Lauren the way that we live nowadays it's a red card it just it just finished the game off completely because it was just chaos the whole thing was chaos it's like the referee was just going I just want to blow my whistle now and go home just let me go I think because the hand ball and all that stuff stuff like V didn't even review it I it just sent I'm like yeah I think the ref just wanted to get off it like out it's one one they're all relatively happy I've kind of lost I've kind of lost I've lost the plot I'm like I'm not quite sure where I'm at let let's let's get in yeah let's get a drink let's get in let's get in sorry quickly as well can I just want to mention Nick Pope right I love Nick Pope I do I absolutely love him um me and Boaz were sitting down we're watching and every time Bournemouth put a ball into the box big Nick poer would come out either take it or you'd punch it away every single time without fail talk about if you ever you want to learn of how to come and deal with crosses into the box balls into the ball just watch Nick Pope it's not even a question of a doubt for him that he's going to come for it he's on the front fo he's waiting and he is already on the move as soon as that ball is it's so good to see so good to see so big as well like he when we did a podcast with him you're 6'4 right and people always say to you like you're bigger than I thought Nick Pope made you look small a giant 6 seven easy but the thing is mate when he's got that you've got to come because if you have that safe mentality when you've got these god-given attributes be wasted what's the point in blue being like me standing on the line hoping I'm going to save a couple get on the front foot and come and show you he does he does fair play to him I do I love it I every ball going in I say to B I go popy will get this there you go popy well done mate that that honestly you don't understand how much pressure that takes off your team seriously when you're a Defender when you're you've got your under that pressure and you see big Nick popee coming out you just go a cheers Nick cheers mate thank you very much wooa absolute woa so that it's going to be a long old season for Southampton isn't it because like yesterday I know it was they they've had A long old season for Southampton… a lot of shots and all this kind of stuff but ultimately the goal from Morgan Gibbs white the ball wasn't cleared twice yeah well what did we talk about about the Manu second phase third phase set piece y that's it and and at this level and actually look at forest forest forest don't ever get talked about right on our show like I'm not being funny but often we Overlook them and we shouldn't they've got quality what noo has done since he came in last season has been unbelievable for them genuinely has been absolutely fantastic these are the games right that either you get relegated by or you get safe by genuinely these are the games for a Southampton for a KN Forest that if you win this game they're the they these will be the massive contributors to you either staying up or to you getting relegated and Forest show exactly why they will probably be safe this season and someone like a Southampton will go down they they have got a lot of quality haven't they what you look through the team and like got from back to front and you like look at Nico Williams elanga Morgan Gibbs on you honestly he's a threat mate he's a problem he really is proven Striker at that level you know what I mean hey to be fair in the game Al McCarthy has made four five saves Forest were on the front foot dominant throughout and I said last week on the show that's how important that South Hampton not getting a point at Newcastle against 10 men for 75 80 minutes it just sets the tone again for him and you know home game Forest they've got to win it if you're going to stay in the Premier League you've got to win it and we'll definitely not lose it anyway you can't go losing it because that's it's a Sixpoint swing you go into the game thinking we could win this you come off with nothing and a rival thing is I think they'll have come off and the difference between the two teams were I mean staggering you know what I mean Forest yeah it's a tough game you going into Southampton first home game back in the Premier League but it were like Forest were a top 10 team they dominated from start to the mental the the mental toll this will take on Southampton will be a problem as well because like what I just said there when they're walking off the pitch Southampton have just played a rival a premier league rival somebody who they think they're on a power with and Forest have battered them they've not laid a glove on them they've not laid a glove on them so they're walking off the pitch going that's somebody who's supposed to be about the same as us and we're way short so they would have all got into that room gone we're going to struggle this year lad I think Forest have got a top top manager I think I think he last year as you said you know and and I think they'll they'll they'll they'll probably surprise a few I think they'll do better than what we yeah do you know what actually before we go into the quiz uh I just got a a quite an interesting one here from from Jay preseason fan survey found that noton and Forest fans were the most optimistic of all Premier League teams I mean how you quite measure that I don't know but watching the game they've got reason to be well I think it's so um Forest I think from again I I put it all down to Nuno I really do put it down to Nuno and what he's done um I think from where they were last season Nuno and Forest enjoying an incredible start! to how they managed to finish the end of last season to taking it into the start of this four four points from your first two games of your season when you're when you're a knock when you're middling to lower Premier League team is an incredible start it is it's a fantastic start and they are fully right to be enjoying it and be optimistic as well quiz Time come on let's [Music] The Quiz!
