Game takeaways: Ohio State dominates Akron 52-6 in season opener

How you doing, Dob to be joined by Adam King and it is in the books, the Buckeyes, uh, the players even said a little bit of a slow start, but then they picked it up in the second half. Will Howard Drew for over 200 yards with three touchdowns. Uh, he ran the football, uh, I thought all in all it was a good first game. Do I don't know if you've ever taken eight months off in a row and not have the red light on the camera, but I imagine there would be a little rust. It's just how it works. Yes, they practice. Yes, they go through camp. These guys aren't tackling at full speed. They're not running well, they don't tackle. Yeah. Well, I mean, even, even the guys that do tackle don't really tackle. And so when you look at that, they want to be physical in practice. Getting out here is a whole different ball game. I will say two things that I love to see JT two. I got a sack and a half today. You love to see 44 back in on that action, Jack story. They kind of took a sack away from him, but he was in there all day long. The defense looked great. I mean, it's obvious when you have three turnovers when you have multiple touchdowns on defense, you know, it's a great day. And then for Will Howard, I thought he looked really, really good. A lot of the time I thought he made some throws that made you realize he's a gamer. Dom. And I think that's the biggest word that we're going to use all year long. And there were some jitters early on. There were some drop balls. Jeremiah Smith. Uh and, uh, you know, we talked to him after the game. Hey, this guy passes the look test. He's just a kid, but my goodness, he put on a show and I think he's going to be the next great one. I gotta tell you a little behind the scenes here. Jeremiah has been over signing autographs since he walked away from the interview and he may be there all night because he is the next great one. It's remarkable as advertised is the only way to put it out here today. He was talked about as being an unbelievable freshman. He got the start as a true freshman. Well, he scored two touchdowns. I don't think you could ask for much more. I guess he was a yard short, two yards short on the 40 yard or he could have a hat trick. But I think number four it's going to be pretty happy with his first career game. And, you know, the player said a little bit of a slow start, maybe some jitters. But once they got rolling and you're absolutely right. It is hard to simulate game speed in practice. It's hard to simulate tackling in practice. They were able to do that. Once they got into the second half, they made some good adjustments, but it's going to take a little while. They'll be better. You know, the old saying goes, you make the most improvement from week one to week two. I expect to see marked improvement next week. It's going to be a night game under the lights. We know what this place will be like, but they still put 53 points up on the board at the end of the day. That second half should give people a lot of excitement if you want, scroll through, watch the Jeremiah touchdown in the first half, watch the other touchdown. But, you know, then watch that second half that looked like a championship caliber team on both sides of the ball and as a Buckeye fan, that's what you have to get excited about. Will Howard. He looked the part, he didn't look. You're right. He had some jitters out there. He looked nervous at the beginning as you would be. He hadn't played in a long time and he's a starting quarterback at Ohio State, one of my favorite parts of today is that if you go back to Skull session, will Howard walked into skull session. He saw all the fans, he saw the band, he had the biggest smile on his face. I think it kind of hit him like, OK, here we go. I'm really gonna be the starting quarterback at Ohio State and he went out there. He settled in this team looked really good. The offensive line. We've got some questions. I don't think we can hide that. I don't think you can look away from that. There is some problems there on the offensive line. They're gonna try to get them figured out that I gotta get them healthy, gotta get him healthy. But of all the units that is the one where reps get you the furthest and that's the most important part is getting reps together.
