really um I'm not sitting here going oh [ __ ] these are long days I'm Bor bored shitless no it just is what it is and it's every it's pretty fun I got to mix this in with Channel 7 with with film and the show and it's not hard it might sound a lot to some people but it's not y you know what I mean it's not like I'm sitting there all day like just act like doing scenes and that it's like two or three scenes spread out [ __ ] 10 hours it's what it is that world's just crazy yeah other than that everything's good man yeah it feels good it's uh three some really important games coming up in training we used to play cricket for ages before training oh mate we used to have we used have to get told to either stop playing um Cricket or uh just kick me up you know kick me up we used to play Kick me up hand all that so um all the boys love playing different uh before these come out yeah yeah yeah you're right and then the boys sort of get locked into their phones these days um but if they IMMORTAL broadcasting the Hall of Fame Immortal coner they could easily make it a weeklong event where each day they announce a Hall of Famer a mortal and have a little mini documentary about the player they announc one thing the NRL does poorly is not celebrate things like this properly now i' had written this down before I watched the presentation last night I thought it was well done I agree with him in the sense where I think you could if if there was more I really think the NRL uh could even go a little bit further with this and um watching the emotions and we'll get to a little bit the uh the 14th Immortal Ron cot uh and what it meant to him and I know we've gone over this a number of times before there is a real opportunity to for the game at the moment is flying yeah and Peter vales and Andrew AB have done a great job and and generating money and and interest into the game at at the moment now I think we need to go back uh and we need to celebrate some of our ogs a little bit more uh and and maybe do something like they do like go over or at least watch what they do in the NFL uh because that's what I've watched uh for for a number of years now uh and and that goes to even I don't know if you would have seen a number of these mates where um there's a a representative from the NRL or the NFL who goes and presents the J with the family and surprises them stuff like that they need to do something bigger yeah and then that way you could make a week of it and then even last night like the players got a good five minutes each and they really good speeches and I'm pumped for all of them but I think there's a world in which it can be done if it was done maybe annually or every second year or something like that with a specific num number of inductees whether it might be you know five Hall of Famers every two years for example um and then at the end of five years maybe you induct an immortal something like that where it's like there's some sort of strategy behind it yeah I think that's the only thing need be tweaked it needs to be tweaked and I think um vales and abdell will be looking at that gun okay because I know vales is a massive supporter of like our past players yeah you know especially the guys like Ronnie coot and Bobby McCarthy and all those Legends so he loves the game like that and I'm pretty sure he'd be heading towards that trying to tweak it a little bit try to play homage to those guys who um who come before us and why this game so great at the moment yeah yeah no like I said the we're going we're on the right path I think we're need to get better and better but um recognition and I guess the humility to celebrate uh our greats I think is missing like where we've always been and I say this all the time where it's we're working class that's our background but if you seen um the reaction last night of what it meant to Ron cot uh and I'll get to ask you about Ron cot a little bit after this mate because we've got the AL eligibility explained here um this is in the lead up to it last night so according to the nrl's induction process the screening committee reduces the entire Hall of Fame registered down to 20 players during their first deliberation stage then in the second deliberation stage those 20 players are whittled down to just five players who are then confirmed as the final ballot the players represented are then put into a vote 12 judges then vote and give their points out in a 321 format with a lot of with a total of six points being handed out per judge that equals to 72 aggregate points available to be given out across all five players to be included as an immortal players must a achieve an aggregate of 20% or more which equates to 15 or more a minimum of one player will be inducted whilst two players each fouryear cycle can be inducted so while with this the last voting process took place in 2018 so that explains it a little bit I actually don't hate the system I like I love that they've actually let us know what this system is um I guess that makes a little bit more sense to why potentially we haven't seen or or there's been a big gap between immortality because therefore if they haven't got um that 20% or more um then that makes a lot of sense why we you know it's been really hard to separate some from others um and and and that's why we you know when we talk about guys from that you're a little bit more familiar with like the Paramount players like Kenny Sterling all those sorts of players and now we get into to Ron coot but on Ron coot um you could see he was highly emotional last night mace and um you talked a little bit about him and and he was your pick for the immortal now that he's got the immortality TS a little bit a little bit more about Ronnie coot um when you look at the the natural progression for someone like Ron cot who makes team of the centures you know what I mean like when they named it in 2008 he's the back roll for that he's the back row he's in the Hall of Fame for the roosters and South Sydney he's in the New South Wales Hall of Fame like he's P he's ticked every other box apart from being Immortal so it was just a natural progression for someone like Ron cot who's helding such high regards for the even current players and the past players it's what he does off the field as well men a league he started men a league for people the players that have ever played any player who's ever played rugby league who's fallen on Hard Times he started that you know what I mean so it's a bit bit bigger than what he's done as a player as well and he didn't necessarily need that too he's pretty well off is he didn't need anything yeah that's what says it's just speaks volumes about his character and people he's just so beloved I've seen him I've known Ron for my whole professional career and he's always just been like a sort of like Mentor older sort of bloke who played in you know the 60s and 70s so it's like you think that he wouldn't have a real good grasp on today's game but he [ __ ] does y him and Bobby McCarthy your best mates they just sit there are down in Mar all the time having a coffee with him and just [ __ ] having a good old chat they got the best stories mate yeah but he's uh he changed the game I said it the other day like big wide wide running back rower and in the at that time I think he's about 6'3 or 6'4 about 100 kilos like played in the middle I wouldn't say 100 kilos I don't know probably yeah 9 you know what I mean like he was a big body so and he was quick he scored over he scored 100 tries in his professional career so would you say more of those body shapes cuz like when you imagine those guys being taller they probably would have been front rowers he moved it he figured out he a lock in a back row yeah yeah like he he paved the way for guys like you who figured out that why run at the big boys through the middle he started running out wide and having some joy out had some Chase yeah so I was like even Bobby McCarthy sort of started that Y and they you couldn't stop him he just couldn't imagine stopping those bles if they had a little bit of pace in in that sort of era right would it trans would it transfer into today's game yeah it would yeah I think I think immortality translates yeah and that's the big thing with me you got to be able to play in every single era if you're an immortal you can't just be fixed on the 60s and 7s that's a totally different game or the 80s and 90s totally different game compared to now um and can we play in their era you know what I mean so it works both ways yes yeah you're right and there yeah when I I guess that's a compliment I give to players now like yeah you could play in the 60s 70s one of the highest compliments I think you can get for me to give to players now is like he'd be sweet back in the ' 80s and they're basically our dogs of the world [ __ ] asell when you think of guys like Ru and cotter and even like Tommy did and guys that stand out stra away from the Cowboys um that's just s you know um but Ronnie C what a what a man like I'm so happy and did you see how much that meant to him last night yeah got me a little bit yeah but you see like cam Smith and Bill and that they're going to be Immortals it's just a matter of time you got to pay homage to these old guys and it means a hell of a lot more y i AG I just think um they did the right thing I'll put you on the spot here um you called this with Ron cot you anticipated you said he deserved it do we go back is there anyone else sort of prrl era so 97 that the core of their career so take Loy and Freddy out of that yeah uh is there anyone else you think will eventually be an immortal no they're all they're already in there yeah the langin and rapers and all that kind of stuff they're in there already so not off the top of the head yeah I don't know that much about it yeah I me I mean about those absolute you know Legends like back then apart from the guys like Ronnie [ __ ] all the guys that are in the in the immortal group yeah so I think they probably got the last one maybe you know Bret Kenny maybe bton yeah Brett Kenny they keep hearing whispers about him he'd play in any ER as well yeah I was playing golf with Fletch yesterday and he was on the Sunday show with with Maddie and um he scored two tries in Grand finals Grand finals and uh one I guess one of the greatest compliments uh you can get is the respect from your peers and Wally Lewis W Lewis when Wally Lewis is vouching for you when you were probably considered to be his biggest competition for New South Wales and Australian Jersey not for New South Wales jerseys but playing for New South Wales against Queens land and then when it come to getting an Australian Jersey and Wally Lewis is an immortal he is the sixth Immortal um he can't be too far behind B can't be too far behind I would say I would say maybe Bert but then again going to go some from Ronnie in the 70s y you got to grab Bert in the ' 80s okay and then you grab Freddy from the '90s is that how it's going to go maybe that's the way I'd be looking at it maybe if they're going to take their [ __ ] sweet ass time like they are you might as well do that or next year you just get that 80s 90s bang Bang Yeah and then then 2000s will be locky it I guess it raises the question the big thing with Bert is reck so with the locky one yeah bang bang bang get then you can get into whoever's been retired now I would have loved to have made just say if it was going to be the case and we eventually do see someone from that dominant Paramount team and it is indeed maybe b k BR Kenny whether it's Peter Sterling whether it's Ray Price whoever it may be out of that group um then it would have been cool for them and duct him with Ronnie cot and then go 2 uh sry 9990 2010 like Freddy and Loy together and then I think the king of the 90s was Freddy and the 2000s was Loy yeah I honestly think that yeah so do I yeah and then 2010s you got you got Cam and Billy and JT they can split it between them yeah that's how it should go down yeah and then everyone else just you've done your job well congratulations uh Ron cot uh welld deserved and um yeah immortality good um this one's from Jimmy Reid this is with regards to Tommy turbo um surely this is we had so many VERSATILITY IN THE NRL now we talked about versatility I knew our listeners were going to help us out this one so uh Jimmy Reids an L1 he goes Tommy turbo surely got to be in the conversation for most versatile Elite back overall of course cers centers at origin played on the wing for a number of years and obviously dominating at fullback when he does play fullback latrell's also another good shout um probably couldn't play him on the wing at the moment but he could easily carve up there and four yeah and then there's another one more and everyone was RTS too but probably a r rung below these days respectfully and the other one and this one's from satisfactory so there's a number of rtss and there were a number of Hamot Tabu white fetos yeah Hammer's good yeah Hammer's probably the best one at the moment yep AP from Val and what's it name who who else we mentioned um Manu yeah that's right that's how it was that's how we started didn't it uh got a shout out from Tyran Wishard got a shout out from Willie leano mate tyan wishart's definitely a part of that lineup he's most improved and he's having a good year but he's still got a lot of work to do before he's considered with some of the names that we just tossed up give me five years of work son Wishy is a um AR might be a center well here we go here's a good question for you this one's from Damen Kerns coming up next qu quick question for the boys on the back of the versatility chat can it also hinder a player when trying to get a new contract for example Wisher the blog plays every position and it basically means he gets relocated to the bench he's a of his versatility I've said this a lot about a number of players but we've said it before like you need a 14 and he's going to play 50 minutes 50 or 60 Minutes sometimes sometimes more Yep so it can be a little bit of a curse maybe when it comes to rep teams but now because the interchange is so important it could be it could help him into these rep teams yeah guys like remember Craig wing and Kurt gidley it was like [ __ ] what position does he play because they're so good at everything Kurt gidley is probably the best utility of all time I would say For Me growing Up Kurt gidley was the the best example of like he could just play anywhere to and that was a curse cuz the bench wasn't used like it is now yeah so you could probably use him on the bench was it a curse for Club level no he was basically full play fullback then he play halves so it was a little bit cuz like if a half went down and gids is playing fullback you move him to halfback and put someone else at fullback yeah so yeah you're right it gave it's as much as he can play at a high level at multiple different positions it's I know I've around positions before it just it's a bit of a punish like you just got to you need to retrain your mind whether it's even going for me which is Edge back row to middle I just it's a completely different game and a completely different mindset so you're right it can be a curse um a couple examples that stand out for me straight away Jamie buau one of my best mates I got an opportunity at Manley because Jamie was a 14 um Jamie was supposed to be the left Edge back rower uh for Tony Williams once he moved on um but then Glenn Stewart got injured on the right in preseason I ended up getting on the left and then Jimmy was just a Swiss army knife Off the Bench as the 14 Connor Watson's another great example um Connor Watson could be a really good third week in week out for for the Sydney roosters but whenever there's injuries he gets moved around to nine sometimes they want to go a bigger pack and cover him so he goes to 14 and comes off the bench it's such a tactic now yeah it's a tactic it's a coach employee so you need that really good 14 out there so here's my next question what's what's what price have you got for a really good 14 so um over 500 yeah I'm with them easy if you're a Connor Watson and stuff you just resigned with the roosters y he wouldn't be south of 500 put it that way no not after he's played our origin um for sure I think that's about right what about a guy like Wishy wish up right now his value it's really he's so young right and it's only his second year in the game you get him on third I think it's his third first couple years is nothing unless you play over like 15 games in your first year y I think he's played around about 30 games in our 30 40' be pushing 50 yeah let's have a look you'll get a jersey then uh tan Wishard 2022 right on 50 he played 50 games there you go yeah he did he got his he got his jersey did he yeah I forget last I didn't see it some I got T yeah I didn't know they'll give him unders for sure like 300 and less so what's what's his value to the storm that's the the question and what would what was what would his value be to I want to I don't want to Titans or something like that no I don't want to go yes Titans 500 plus there you go okay good yeah because I I wanted to find a team that was thereabouts not completely you know I don't want to go all the way to the Tigers because Tigers probably wouldn't be able to utilize a player like that just yet until they've built their their squad but I think a team that is very close to taking that next step Titans be a team like the Titans they they' have to give him 500 and more and AR storm would be like 300 just go 350 they'd have to right because they got too much top end Money Money Paid to um yeah it's one of those ones they do normally do a pretty good job of keeping those plays too though melbour because because you're a chance of winning every year that's why yes and you know that say like for niiko Hines you can still get the potential to go on and get a big deal later on y like eventually if you stay in that system and and maybe till you're like you know 25 26 yeah like niik did yeah yeah and even Niko right there's a lot of question mark I reckon that's still a knock on niiko now his versatility coming through playing fullback seven seven no one thought that until uh Fitzy showed some faith in him and then now when it doesn't go right for him even if it's like at the extreme levels origin people always go is he a seven you know what I mean so there's still that question different Beast people like like just origin's different I think in this day and age right now um even though I think they're probably going to be undervalued I'd give me a whole heap of tyan give me a whole heap of Nicko hindes give me a whole heap of those players I still don't know what position n i mean um Wishard is either I think maybe a center he's playing on the wing like his old boy he started on the wing yeah I believe um and he's playing on the actually I will have that exactly go all the positions that he's played everywhere in the backline you'd have to go in there a little bit Lo where is he so last year he played he played 15 in his first year you reckon he's the most versatile player in the game I think so because I don't think Conor Watson can play Wing yeah as good as he can yeah bench bench bench bench bench fullback so he's just bench all the first year and then we go back and I'll go the second year he was Bench five bench bench Ben half cback Yeah so basically um but a lot of those times he come off the bench really quickly and playing on the wing um most versatile he'd be up there he's definitely part of the conversation because he does it every week there are probably a whole heap of players like Star players who are guns at their position to if you ask them to play multiple positions they would but they're just a gun at their specific position so um yeah it's good question uh this is another good one this one is from James visor boys absolutely love the podcast uh and look STORM BREAKDOWN QUESTION forward to both your takes every week however really disappointed with the storm coverage of this podcast after our boys won such a huge match and beat the Panthers for a second time this regular season all the media talked about was Cleary's injuries and really didn't analyze the Storm at all and besides Nelson's collateral you've done the same super frustrating when our storm fans want to hear respected names break down our team's performance specific players efforts and take on moments in the game like Anderson getting hit high with' no simin lots of love so he's a big supporter but he he sort of feels like the reason I bring it up and he did it the right way he doesn't just attack attack he obviously loves the podcast he's a little bit disappointed we didn't speak more about it I guess the biggest news was the Nathan clear injury out of the the the game but um I will give him his him and the storm their flowers this is the point of bringing this up um it was a really good performance for me I had Melbourne in tier two after this performance even if Nathan didn't get injured they proved enough to me in that game all the way up until that point with Nelson being put in the bin that Melbourne are going to give penth some dramas now it even looks like that you know if they were to play obviously right now with no Nathan clear then I'm probably leaning towards Melbourne in a grand final right now like if it was next week yeah I think we give enough respect to Melbourne they justel Melbourne just do Melbourne things everyone just sort of desensitized to it and it's just like you expect them to win every game yeah that's good point I don't I don't expect them to go into a game and go they're going to get [ __ ] pumpy by penth I would say we going to go down to some plays yeah I would say we skim over Melbourne and penth more often than not and tigers and Paramount more often than not now one two extremes yeah Melbourne and penth we know what they're capable of we know what they're going to do we're going to be talking about them when it matters and param and West tigers for example and even the Broncos to degree we've hammered them enough throughout the season or they've been critiqued enough throughout the season where you just don't want to flog a dead horse like it doesn't make sense I I like to be a little bit more critical or or give some constructive criticisms in their teams in the middle you know talk about the Bulldogs are they a genuine threat can they do anything um are kenel as high as we think they're going to be me I'm not totally sold on my own team manly like those sorts of questions and those are ones that still haven't been answered I know Melbourne and penrith are going to be good like that's there's no debate on that and they're probably going to be there or one of them is going to be there on Grand final day so that's why we sort of skimmed over it um the Anderson the Anderson head eye with with Mitch Kenny I found that confusing um because Nelson didn't get any waks and this is the inconsistencies with the bunker which we'll get to a little bit in the blocker later on he get um no Anderson got hit High by Mitch Kenny Mitch Kenny got a week or two and Nelson got sent to 10 in the bin for 10 in the bin and he didn't get anything happened to him so that's again that's just the inconsistencies of the bunker which we see all the time and I try not to double down on it but it is super frustrating for me as a neutral watching those games and we're going to be talk about the blocker rule because I've seen a number of uh really respected uh ex-players be talk about it throughout the week um this one's from Pedro the pig and speaking of uh not showing my own team MANLY "MIND GAMES" BY SCOPE enough love I always get a lot I'm sort of considered the roosters hater or sharks hater and all that but very rarely this year despite where they are have I talked up manly no you haven't and this one's from Pedro Pig Pedro Pig he reckons on playing m games so so scope are thinking too much Pedro scope I love you bro you are one of the few representatives for our great Club on social media and I know what you're trying to do you're trying to keep us under to the radar but come on lad cut us some slack give us some praise we won six of our last seven oh really everyone in good form at the right time everyone coming back fit at the right time it's good times for the club won't hurt to give us some mayo next week will be good the dogs and mainly game that'll be huge that'll be a good game for everyone then you can talk your [ __ ] yeah we will talk [ __ ] after that game that's you know what yeah that's a really good indicator for me because um I guess the one uh part of Manley's game that was really disappointing when I thought I was starting to you know really get on board the fashion in which the roosters blow him off the park in that first 25 minutes that Alan went n they're they're a level behind the roosters and that's the game they lost right they did out of the seven yes um they had a couple players go H and it was a brave game and they got back into that game and only lost by a trow there was like three intercepts in that game that was lucky was good skill but you you think roosters wouldn't do that wouldn't pull the triggle out again and and yeah exactly right and I've got my concerns over the roosters and therefore if I've got my concerns over the roosters I can't then to so that was a game um and here's another one this is the one I get all the time uh this is a from shy smokes smokers barbecue is a big fan of SHARKS UNFAIR CRITICISM? the show he he messages a fair bit two-part question for this sharks fans fellas everyone's office at the moment do you think the criticism in us being at the top of the table is unfair given our lack of halves this year Newcastle had the but couldn't decide on one also will Kennedy seems to be a bit quiet this year nice TR saer on the weekend do you think potentially the lack of competition from a guy like Conor Tracy at all has got him comfortable it doesn't seem to be breaking games open this year peace Matt that comes with a lot of pressure on Kennedy as well you're game planning for him now cuz he's so dangerous I agree so people don't understand that when you have like a and he's a freak player Will Kennedy yeah you got to really go at him right and so people want to put Bombs Up sort of bully him a little bit so he's going to get a lot of attention from um from defenses because he's not the biggest fullback right so it's going to be hard for him to break games open because everyone's just game game plan for him you don't really want to kick to a c or mul mulana because they run the ball back crazy where you can get under Will Kennedy that's what they they'll back themselves to try and get in front of him and drag him back so there's more numbers on him and the halves you had your halves for a [ __ ] majority of the year you won all your games there it's only been last what couple of months in a couple of weeks without trenle yeah so there there are there is a enough of a resume to say when when you've got your your harves you are going to be a threat despite the success that they've had recently I would argue that will Kennedy he was their best when they were were struggling um when they had lost a whole heap of plays and actually lost a few games I was actually really impressed by Will candy near a couple games specifically the I think it was maybe the Melbourne game but definitely the param game where he was my man of the match in almost a losing team um and I think the criticism for me and the reason the criticism that I have is because I still think that despite where they are on the lad at Fourth I do think there's a big gap now I have them in the same bracket and I and I can't separate um canala bulldogs Cowboys manly now whether that's a slight on crenella because they're sitting forth it's up to you to decide that's just my opinion um and I think they're slightly behind the roosters but in saying that they have set themselves up nicely because they've missed niik they've now getting Braden Trindle back Ronaldo mulalo is still a bit Ginger who I think is uh really underrated and he'll be he'll be crucial for them as well um I think there is a world in which um the sharies can now hold on to the fourth position which I didn't think a couple of weeks thought they were going to slide hard and then therefore gives him a a shot at at week one of finals and they would they're going right considering what's happened in the last two months if they get Niko back um CIFA teleki is missing this week uh where's teleki teleki is missing it with some sort of injury [ __ ] he's playing good he's killing it he's killing him he is killing it and then K ero was playing really good he's back this week they'll give them a chance they'll like they want to play those guys they won't worry about going down they a team I don't think will worry about going down they're well and truly back now um but ANNESLEY ON BLOCKERS EXPLAINEDDD... let's get to the sharks in that game against the knights this is the last time I want to talk about it but it has been going on throughout the week and the reason I brought it up again to talk about is the blocker R is the explanation from Anis Lee elaborate have you seen it I don't [ __ ] bother yeah so anly explanation was that kroer and actually I've got it here just I might even just get you to watch it mate because then you'll have a a better yeah the referee or the video referee May rule obstruction if any player from the attacking team in relation to a field goal takes up a position near the play the ball and in the opinion of the referee obstructs it Defenders regardless of whether there is physical contact all the clubs have got a copy of this all the clubs have briefed on this at the start of the year you know obstruction blockers case closed so this is why I brought it up right and I've heard [ __ ] dumb I've heard number of people talk about this and this is I I've been saying this for a while now I think maybe Gran rle at the at the end of his time zero accountability ever he well it's his interpretation of the rule and what he I believe I just think he's out of tune with the game and on a number of different things like I think there are a number of decisions throughout the year but let's focus on the blocker before I get too I go too wide with this so his explanation of M watching that was that kroer and heatherington couldn't get the ball you're in you're in a you're in a those position twos like you're just running the ball there it's so confusing to me that he just can't interpret that those two two guys can receive the ball not not one of not kroer or heatherington after they didn't receive the ball moved in the way or obstructed player um I've got something from Billy Billy talked about this I think it was on his podcast and I'm paraphrasing him ever so slightly but he basically commented on now in order to take a field goal basically with that explanation from that interpretation that you would have to communicate with your team at the start of the set which tackle you want to do it on so that therefore they would move out of the way so that would completely take away any sort of Disguise of kicking the field goal basically yeah because if you were a Defender and you get back at a and you see that there's like no middle about to take a carry and it's a half or their a Sprint designated kicker then you're going to put kick pressure on and there's no you know like you're going to get to yeah you're going to get to him and you're probably going to charge it down like it takes away the mystery of of [ __ ] stupid it just doesn't make any sense so completely moving players away is that's his so that's what he thinks you should do that's and that's what he recommends teams do in order to have no gray area around it which is so out of touch but all he should say what's the rule is they need to be behind the nine and a genuine option for the ball which those two were cuz if if the nine comes out little bit they're on side and you can hit either of those guys right but he's saying to remove them to create any doubt which is [ __ ] like it is that's [ __ ] terrible it's so out of touch mate because he he not he watches games I don't know so the the rule was brought in and I love why the rule was brought in to stop the two blockers sitting just on the side of the rock which then made the markers not be able to get direct kick pressure they have to go around two blockers I understand that part of the rule this interpretation of the rule is so far wrong and Cameron Smith talked about it on um Captain's run with with be yesterday too there are blockers used on every single play of every game how is it up to the referees and the bunkers to determine that a lead Runner wouldn't have got hit on this occasion just like just like if there was a block for a block for a block and ends up leading to a try but uh a player wasn't in would they then go back and go that that player was a blocker he wasn't doing anything he was never going to get the ball imagine if they did that imagine if imagine if a block try happened this and leads to a try ride on the sideline and they decided to take the rule from uh field goal opportunity to a try and goes that M kroer wasn't genuine on the end there let's take away that that Greg Mazu try imagine the can of worms that would open up can't leave any so so many so much gray area in that right the rules are You' got to be behind the N genuine option for the ball tick stand your ground don't change your line tick don't escort yeah tick and then kick the ball over game over
