back here on CBS Sports HQ presented by the Home Depot this top 25 look ahead is built by the Home Depot how doers get more done Notre Dame getting it done on the road against Texas S&M a top 25 matchup BAC uh you got Notre Dame here seventh in the nation uh they're definitely be moving up inside the top five after this road Victory oh no question top five for me for sure very very impressive win I would say it was the second most impressive win from week one my number one would be Georgia just just dominating Clemson granted it was a neutral site but yet and still Clemson a highly respected team a lot of experience on that team when you look at the coaching staff with a quarterback as well the way how Georgia just manhandled Clemson I think that was the more dominant win followed by Notre Dame taking care of their business on the road against A&M and I have them in the top five right now I think when you look at what we saw from Notre Dame you look at the other teams that I have in front of Notre Dame in my top five uh the only difference from what we saw leading into week one's matchup today was Oregon yeah you got to be taking them out yeah Oregon won but it wasn't convincing they struggled that was a four quarter ball game you look at the score of that ball game doubt it felt like Idaho was going to have one of the major upsets that we've seen in in recent times but they found a way to W to win but you guys know how it comes when it when it comes to college rankings you know you got you need style points style points matter when it comes to the top 25 and I have Oregan outside and so listen I I put Notre Dame up to six okay cuz they did a great job going on the road beating they were at seven so you only moved them up one spot Daren lies the rub sir because at number five usurping them is Penn State I love what I saw from Penn State I feel like Penn State played two separate games the first half in normal weather then we saw them play another game after a two and a half hour rain delay and the reason why I have them jumping on the Dame is because let's say if they play each other in a matchup all things being equal what we saw last night or to tonight with Conor Wegman on the other side in Texas A&M we know pen State can pass and they can run so I feel like that alone slides them up over Notre Dame by one but it's not about what Penn State did against West Virginia it's not solely about what Notre Dame did or did not do it's about the team they beat correct the team that was ranked one team was ranked in the top 25 but you also have to account for how they looked when they played that team I mean so let's say Oregon Oregon was ranked what very high and they so who so let me ask you this question Emory and the same for you hot yeah I'm I'm with you Notre Dame's in the top five who had the more impressive win not Dame Notre Dame on the road to you guys but to me pen state was playing West Virginia yeah but Penn State also had questions Penn State we didn't question they came into today's game with the second best quarterback in the Big 10 and Drew Aller oh so now was Drew all it wasn't Dylan Gabriel no no no what I'm saying the second best and number one was Dylan Gabriel before the the preseason rankings and of players and teams many experts many analysts when you look at the big 10 had Dylan Gabriel the top quarterback in the Big 10 heck he's in the Heisman he's a Heisman favorite now that was before tonight's game against Idaho and secondly in the Big 10 Drew all was the consensus when you look at the second best quarterback in the Big 10 and he lived up to the billing today against West Virginia West Virginia is not a ranked team they probably won't be ranked at any given time this season Texas A&M is a ranked team and yes they slid tonight but I think in totality they will have a better season playing against tougher competition than West Virginia that's why I believe going into Aggie land and at night cyle field at night Prime Time stage and find a way to win with young offensive lineman that's super impressive yeah I mean the the Soliloquy was beautiful but here's the thing here's the fact yeah but em hold on so this is the the facts are this though they they beat a the 20th ranked team of the nation so when the voters for the associated prco they're putting Notre Dame in the top five when you beat it's just it's it's it's just the math the math is mathing I'm glad you brought that up I can't I'll tack your point first before I get back to let's go here we go so when the SEC decides to in these preseason rankings to rank all 40 SEC teams in the top 10 when they start beating up on each other it's like oh wow they beat a top 10 team are we sure A&M shouldn't have been right 20 and we're talking about 20th rank A&M so my thing is that's the answering your point okay for bmac is like listen at the end of the day we have to look at who we play we go in there right now and play the A&M team that we saw tonight with that quarterback and that passing game you don't think Penn State can go in there and do the same thing know the Dame did I mean any given Saturday Anything Can Happen true right and we saw that definite but I'll say this Notre D played the better team out of the two W Virginia something that does that's that's sort of the that's sort of the qualification here of why you're getting in the top five rank team that's the I get I get I understand your qualifications in terms of you're looking at the team itself but based on beating a ranked team Notre Dame's moving in the top five yes yes I mean that's you're the only one in the planet on the planet in the planet that will have Penn State over noted Dame other people in Central PA will definitely have them in uh they're being biased no they have a reason they understand football we know Oregon's out of the top five so there's there's only going to be one spot in the top five come you know Sunday when they announced I'll give you another team what where do you put Miami cuz I have him eighth huh eighth they beat they beat the ranked team Florida was not Florida not ranked they're in the SEC right they not it wasn't ranked ranked Miami have Miami who was in the teens if I'm not mistaken where was Miami before today's matchup based on what you saw today where you put Miami they're not jumping Penn State they're not jumping Mississippi they're not jumping you going this is Emory's top 12 look at that that's a right top 12 Oklahoma their defense look good I granted it was Temple it don't matter who who did they play again I forgot they played a team out in Philly I can't remember the name but I know they played a very good tough team very good and tough listen defensive defensive defensively B you went chalk no this is reality this is reality right who Miss played today Ferman and and and they beat him they beat him like they were supposed to beat them okay right Alabama also hung and and they did what they were supposed to do made a great they beat him how they were supposed to beat them the reason why we're punishing who Oregon is because they didn't do so with style against the team they were supposed to dominate right so they got punished they're not in the top five anymore when you look at Alabama who came in today's rankings at at the fifth spot they there's no reason to move them because guess what they did they took care of their business like they were supposed to that's how the rank pull up BX top 25 pull up my top 25 you're Top This the realness in how it should go when you watch football the right way no here it is B back look first of all so and I'm not going to knock LSU because they haven't played so fair fair enough right Utah took care of their business mou took care of their business Michigan did what they they won by 20 it was in doubt but you're right they did they they finished the game strong they won by 20 Y and I moved them I they they fail in my ranking compared to where they were before they play nine coming in this week you mov so they did what they were supposed to do and you punished them but rewarded Old Miss for beating firman no well Old Miss got what they were supposed to get based on where they where they are in my 12 how they handled their business what was the final score what was it 60 to zero 70 to zero against F huh 70 to zero like what are we talking about how am I going to punish them from beating Ferman by 70 points 76 to nothing oh 76 I'm I'm I'm sorry Lane I short changed you six points seven yes and and and and they didn't get rewarded because Notre Dame jumped them I have Notre Dame in front of Mississippi no you don't not on the list my list well Lucas my list is I have Notre name in my top five you call you so so now so now you call you put you at phone in the friend no you your list is what the list say my list listen to me ug Ohio State Texas Bama Notre Dame Mississippi Penn State Michigan Oregon missou Utah LSU there it is that's what it says yeah so he doesn't like Be Ma he doesn't like that you put Penn State behind Old Miss that's his that's that's that's his gripe that's the gri I get that I get that that's a fair gripe yeah but whatz did today 76 points and Ferman I know they're not anywhere close to FCS FCS but Ferman still is a respectable FCS they are better than Idaho I will say that Ferman is a respectable s FCS school well people will be sitting home like why are you guys arguing about the top because all of this matters now because this is our first year at the extended playoffs with 12 teams all these rankings week to week every time that a team goes out on the field and you talk about style points and you talk about what they're doing against their competition everything's going to matter because those first four buys are going to be huge for those teams and we know there's going to be a group of five team among those top 12 but every week it feels like it's going to matter a little bit more I I would say that it mattered before this season because every week was bigger like Clemson loses today they're still in the mix to get in the playoff they're not on your list right now they're not competing in terms of at with the big boys and nil and the transfer portal but if they went out they're going to be in the mix for the college football playoffs and you know what I really wish the the voters in the committee would just admit style points mean something right exactly I agree because that's the thing that bothers me you sit here and say no it's not about style it's the unspoken but then the way how we both do knocked Oregon for not looking good they're going to do the same thing when the rankings come out I'm I'm willing to bet Oregon's going to be outside the top five because they struggled even though they won they struggled against a team they shouldn't have struggled against college football is about style points I wish they just come out and say it and the czy it's it's about style points but then you know what if they do so then the sportsmanship would kind of be removed because some teams will be putting on points knowing they have to do so that's the point I was going to make yeah all right well I like that conversation did that you but that's the fun about sports right we're going to sit here and talk about it and people are arguing home Penn State Notre Dame it's going to be a season long argument who had the better top 12 I mean I'm with you no you did I asked him Notre Dame Notre Dame is a top five Team Notre Dame is a top five team but I I will say Penn State should be six so so I can't really you know right Penn State's good team so we talking about five and six Showdown look at this we got next week they better get right at the Big House elimination game here Michigan and Texas both made the college ball playoff last season Michigan of course won the title with Jim Harbaugh and he went to LA to coach the Chargers Texas has won back-to-back Road games against AP top 10 teams Michigan 23-0 and non-conference home games in the last 10 season that game set for noon Eastern one week from today
