Kelsey Plum and head coach Becky Hammond speak after the Las Vegas Aces win over the Connecticut Sun check out the video you know that's how you win game stops and rebounds the best one of the best rebounding teams paint teams and I just think they were just going down the gut of our defense so definitely had some come to Jesus moments in the locker room and um you're just really proud of the way the team responded and um people came down came up clutch down the end of the game um and so it was awesome team win how much two times chance yeah games like this how much does experience play part I think it plays a a big part you know it's it's so interesting because it's like man this year we really haven't had a ton of like things go our way so it's kind of cool to see it fall the way it did um especially like late game but man what it's really hard it's really hard people don't really understand how hard it is so just proud of it we kept battling you know you just got to keep battling and eventually you know the basketball Gods reward good behavior yeah from on line you talked about the pictures of this team and players shots he talk about the play end the gameela gr Chelsea Gray chelse yeah she's I mean it seems like you knew if no offense if you're saying how to say her name but Chelsea's arguably the most clutch player in the league she's been that way um you know from the jump so you know at helped on the nail it was a no brainer and I'm really glad she shot it um you know she's kind of been the glue for us throughout the season and when she plays our record is I don't know it's a lot better than what she doesn't play so I think for us um it was a great momentum thing and I trust chela with the ball late game trust a I think everyone kind of trusts each other like you said that experience of playing together in a lot of big games does matter anything else in the room last question um It's Time basketball by B that went around where she said something around seems like a switch on you talk about the inter not what's going on what what's flip for you guys for sure like I said before it's about getting stops and rebounds on the road um you know we have um you know done a lot of like self-inflicted wounds throughout the season and a lot of the games we've lost we just really haven't taken care of business so just proud of the way buckled down and you know cdy was clutch he came in changed the game with their defense got stops um made some timely buckets and you know that's that's veteran leadership that's super important uh she's a big part of our team and uh she really is the voice in the locker today let's go to the zooms Matthew hey uh Kelsey you talked with Tariq after the game about what you did with your couple of days off and I was just wondering thinking back on those days now what sort of things did you try to focus on just to sort of reset yourself here to have a game like this tonight I mean Matthew I don't know if people fully understand how draining Paris was I mean it's a great experience but you know you're playing even if you play 15 minutes you're playing the hardest 15 minutes of your life you know what I'm saying and uh you know Cheryl re was tough on me you know in the best way and then also too you know you're playing in high pressure situations there's a lot of um you know heavy weight on your nervous system in a way um and just been going non-stop I've been going non-stop um in the offseason you know a lot of emotional stuff dealing with too so it's kind of like just grateful that I was able to get a little bit of a reset and um I'm always better when I got a some juice in the tank um so I just I was just super grateful for it I I mean I freaking napped for hours and just ate a lot of carbs and just kind of enjoyed life and just kind of got a little bit more perspective on the whole thing all right let's close it out with Jetta Kelsey what change for you all in that third quarter you outscored them by nine what kind of change for you all to kind of pick up the moment defens defensively as well I think for us it was just you know buckling down getting stops being super physical um you know that's the way we've been able to be successful the last couple years we've had great offense we really have had a great defense and so we're just super connected getting stops um and then able to rebound and run you know like I said they're a great rebounding team and so um if you're able to hold them to one shot that's that's you know your best chance to you know be in the game and so I thought we did that I thought Asia was phenomenal AC Sid like I said chel like people just came in contributed um it was definitely a team effort all right hands raised start the pretty much uh it was just a high pick and roll and we know they let they load the nail so we want obviously one of our best Shooters there sitting on that wing and so um I thought KP did a really good job of just getting downhill creating advantages for us and then it's just about making the right decision so um you know she got downhill the help came a little bit and she just kicked and we know Miss gray likes big shots so was a surprise uh it went in perfect who we want shooting um so it was uh just really good execution by all of them as she said a great screen K KP came off made the right read made the right play and uh Chelsea knocked it down very complicated [Laughter] play start what did you say your team ad I probably can't repeat what I said at halftime um but the bigger picture was it felt terrible it felt terrible on Sidelines to watch what we were watching especially offensively and then defensively just not coming out on point I mean that first five minute we can get a stop I mean we talk about defense defense defense and we come out in the first six or seven minutes they're just scoring at will so we had a good heart-to- heart about defense and then after that they really buckled down to hold a team in the teens for three straight quarters um it's good to know on nights that we struggle offensively we can actually rely on our defense um we would have been a sunken ship without KP um in that first half she basically carried us in the first half and then everybody else started to wake up a little bit at half time so uh as bad as it felt I was like how terrible that felt and we're only down 12 so let's call let's get in play some defense and we started the third quarter off with a stop and get out and run and then that momentum starts to shift in our fav Matthew Becky I had two for you quickly um do you have an update on Asia status I know the injury was late in the game but do you have an update on how she's feeling I think I heard she getting some treatment yeah no I don't I don't have anything right now for you and then speaking of Kelsey you gave her the game off the last game and she talked a little bit about when she was in here earlier just allowed her to mentally reset how big can getting her reset because she had been sort of having hot he been hot from three and cold from three getting her to reset going down the stretch how can important can that be for you guys she's huge for us down the stretch I mean even Jackie um Jackie's production you know when she when she came back off her day off um when we when we rested her she comes back and has like 14 assists plays great defense so the rest has been serving as well um I'll talk to Asia and see kind of where we're at with her um but you know when you talk about you know Plum especially in the finals Plum Chelsea and um Jackie last year we know how crucial they are those three have to play well Asia's going to be Asia but the play of Jackie Kelsey and Chelsea are are our separation factors so we need them clicking on all cylinders we haven't yet this year um so I'm hopeful at some point that'll turn um but on a night that we really just struggled to score the ball um we were able to rely on our defense so I'm really happy with that coach earlier have players experienced team two times position this leadership being exper how I mean we have a lot of trust in each other we we're very battle tested core 4 and myself um and you could throw AC in there and Kia Stokes in there and sit in there I mean we we're battle tested we've been through these tight games um not every game's going to be a blowout and also like it's not easy it's not easy to do what I'm asking them to do which is be great every night and um we're finding our way and we're figuring it out it's always on the defensive end because that goes with you it can go on the road with you the shooting doesn't nobody's out there trying to miss shots like I get that um as a coach I'm trying to make sure we get good shots um and if we're not getting good shots why are we not getting good shots and then try to make adjustments to where um you know we feel a little bit better about the shots that we're getting um but there's a lot of trust in execution and atos down the stretch and play calling down the stretch um I have a lot of trust in them to make the right decision whatever that might be I said you know I put the ball in your hands whether it's Asia KP Chelsea Jackie tip haes whoever whoever has the ball it's not necessarily that I'm calling the play for you it's for you to make the right read so uh tip Hayes and and and uh and Plum are really great at creating gray area where now you can really make some money because they they penetrate the defense in such a way that makes them make a decision and then after that it's on that player to just make the right decision whatever that might be sometimes it's themselves and sometimes it's it's the pass and so um you know you just make the right play after right play after right play I mean Plum's decision- making down the stretch I thought was really really good um and so you just build off that trust thought Asia had a big one too no one really talks about that that little jumper that little silent jumper was a big one let's do one more in the room and then AAS close the out we was going to be in last places or something like that last games how good does it feel asach to click for time in the season yeah I mean we're we're we're still building um and this this team in particular um we haven't played our best basketball yet so that part really is exciting and encouraging um our defense coming along our rebounding coming along those are all really encouraging signs the shooting like I said it's going to come and go um hopefully I think it's time for that warm to start turning pretty soon too um you know it's time for Jackie and KP to get hot on the same night and um you know like I said their production from that guard space you start Chelsea see is being more and more of herself um so we're we're starting to take you know two three steps forward and we just step by step quarter by quarter sometimes um but just being in the moment and being present um we know we'll have good results but uh the defense can't take a vacation we know that Nas what you go uh just a couple of quick ones for you coach um first in for the defense in terms of the trust in the communication levels that you're seeing how close is the defense to being where you wanted in those categories I mean the last the last uh defensive possession where you know they needed a three um we put our thing I mean it was like a wall out there they they couldn't get a three off and so being able to dig in and get those kind of stops um are just really crucial down the stret like that's a moment that you know the offense is going to be organized and the defense was was stifling and I think you know we had Jack tip AC and Chelsea out there in Asia and so um getting stops on demand that's that's what we talk about and something I learned from pop you know when they won championships they got stops on demand like we have to get a stop and the defense understood that and they did whatever it took to get a stop and we're starting to get on that point Point um I think after that Dallas game uh that was kind of the Turning Point um because Dallas um they scored seven points in the last minute and that's a team that a year before that same offensive team that same they they look the same we look the same our team held them scoreless for five points and or for five minutes in a closeout game in game three we held him to to to zero points in five minutes and so then you know fast forward here and I just really challenged them we gave up 32 points in the fourth quarter lost a 13-point lead you know in the second half and those things are on us um and so there's really been a lot greater attention to detail I think defensively and it's just given us a chance to be in games and extend leads and be solid so offense is the offense it was not particularly great tonight but uh the defense was great when it needed to be got you it then quick uh you mentioned Jackie kind of closing that game but only two fourth quarter minutes for her was that just you that just game Flow riding a hot lineup or is that something that you were seeing yeah you know uh Sid gave us really great minutes I thought her minutes really actually impacted the game in a in a big time way um and so I was really pleased with her minutes and then it was just about just flow and matchups and um Jackie's probably going to run 35 the next game it just it just happens like that I didn't think she had it particular ly tonight um so
