in wa Chad Warner to Freo we heard this last night from Jay Clark exclusively uh the foo Dockers have an 18mon plan to land the biggest fish in the pond Chad Warner $1.6 million a year is it reportedly on the table which would make him the highest paid player in the AFL coming to Free manal in 2025 or 6 we have to be the end of next year because theoretically well he's contracted until the end of next year uh look there's two Ls to that that is uh just Fury land figures for for any player really but his quality what you also have to take into account here and the media gets caught up in this aair bit and I'm not saying J Clarks is a very good operator but you know let's bear in mind even with the Leo contract position there you know having spoken to some people there's some posturing by managers to to make sure that their client you know there there is some some behind the scenes you know phone calls made to you know it's it's all like buying a house pushing up the price so I'm not saying it's not happening but by the same token bear in mind there there are parties with vested interest into to making sure that the highest dollar for either Chad um is gained or well there's certainly enough interest in the marketplace to not think well Chad's going to stay at Sydney don't worry about asking asking the question look uh Chad Warner would be absolutely marbles to not look at these sorts of things and plus it's to come home like he's not getting paid to leave his home state he's getting paid to come home where his friends and family are and he was taking it now I stand correct pick 37 or 38 I mean so you talk about access to to players and look there's so many examples in history of clubs not getting this this Superstar at a at a good pick or or finding a Dean Kemp you know Brett Hy late in the late in the draft going back decades ago but yeah he's a he's a player but that that sort of money is something I don't think I've heard of from Midfield in the history of the game so to go and get that done fro is going to have to shift around their first round picks for this year J yeah Jay Clark believes that potentially with those three instead of going and trading them away for someone this year like we talked about Shay Bolton a couple of weeks ago they may use those to go and get future picks future first rounders the following year to then use on Chad Warner so instead of having to spend all your bickies on these ones they may use the first rounders now they'll move back in the draft this year year but the following they'll be even more stacked than they are this year so give me an example of what what you think it would take draft pickwise to to get Chad Warner how are we talking two first rounders at minimum two first rounders yeah minimum you're probably you're probably looking at two first rounders plus yeah I would say and a and a or a player if you're going to go and pay in the most of any player in the NFL that would say you know his value is the the most in the AFL you're going to have to pay up right yeah absolutely so I think two first rounders could even be three I think we saw close to that for Tim C didn't we to West Coast going back in time yes like two first rounders plus a future so something like that would do the Chad Warner deal whether he wants to whether uh Sydney Want To That Remains the question but to have someone added to BR Shaw song Young I'll leave FY out of it because in two or 3 years he'll be gone yep BR Shaw song Young Warner that Midfield is off its head that is unbelievable yeah and it BS the question if you're talking of salary cap wise the Eagles are in a pretty good position to to venture down that path as well but they don't have that collateral do they they don't have the draft picks no but they they' have the money that's a really good point and I think that's something that's sort of not being focused on too much West Coast are building they've got a war chest and they're going to get a bigger War chest as Gaff goes as darling goes as mcgaven goes like I'm talking over the next two three years got to pay people and and Oscar Allen and Lam Dugen and these sorts of guys are going to Chad Warner is exactly the type of player the eagles need I mean not that the Dockers don't but when you think of it I for instance for me if I've got the choice I'll probably you might laugh me if I got the choice for Warner and a Tim English at the moment I'm going with I'm going with Chad oh absolutely but Rockman di doesn't don't worry I'm not there's nothing on Tim English no no no really good play but and I've been having spoken to bles you know who've been in the sist Mark Stone who's assistant coach we've seen it in the last 15 years particularly just the get a role playing get a role playing Rock exactly Matt Flynn's an example of that we've seen Tom hii we've seen there's so many Bry Grundy's one out of the box going from one club to another that's that's worked spectacularly well so far but you're right I think sometimes just to have that that solid go-to guy that that you know does the job week in week out and feeds the likes of Warner I reckon L Baker goes to West Coast then if this is if this is true um got to be said it's just Jay Clark chatting with our good man man Ralphie over at Fox footy but if it's true that then you wouldn't you would say that Frio don't go and get leam Baker as well no right no exactly so he could be firming for the West Coast Eagles if we just turn our um our hand what no I'm just like because you know what'll happen in two weeks we look back and uh Chad Warner's extended his contract for three years in Sydney so these things can happen look it's great for it's great discussion and whether Jay-Z's right wrong or whether you and I R Jay they JayZ yeah like that it's a that's part of the Triple M stick I love oh no I like it good onor um but yeah I mean whether whether it comes to fruition I reckon if you look in the history of time and stories written and what's actually eventuated it can be hit and miss but I'm sure the managers are involved in these stories coming out and uh yeah as I say there's some by play along the way west coast let's flip our uh thoughts to up the river um or across the river Oscar Allen is back the captain seems to as long as he gets through training the next couple of days we'll be playing uh we'll be in this West Coast forward line and it poses the question after such a long time back should he have come through the waffle I say no you say I say I agree with you I think a player of his stature and what and the work they do with him and you know this better than I but at training and match himim I I just don't see there's any value the only reason you come back through the waffle at his caliber would be if he's on like 60 Minutes like half game time and that's and that's what they're doing in brief with Brennon Cox for the reasons coming back from surgery so I sort of understand that that process with him y but well you you've probably seen at the club more certainly more than I have and Oscar Allen I I think that that's the The Chosen path that I think most clubs with a PL of his y would take He he'll he'll be a stay at home forward he will be uh in the goal Square wrestling he is put on size guaranteed he's bigger than when he left uh the last time you saw him West Coast fan so he is going to be your powerful it just for me raises the question Oscar Allen Returns what's that forward line look like for West Coast hypothetically they could roll out the tallest jumpiest marest forward line in the history of the game that history's ever seen listen to this this is what it could be not saying it will be right could be Oscar Allen Jake Waterman Jack darling bayy Williams as the backup Rock Matt fle in the in the Rock uh Jack Hutchinson and Ryan marrick like that they could you know now we're leaving out Jamie kson and fly Ryan but very possibly that could be you can't roll that which doesn't sound like it's going to work against EST so who who comes out because this is this is uh I've been through this a little bit this week I think all all signs are pointing to one player who comes out so Oscar Allen plays Oscar Allen plays Jake wman plays they're just a lock right you need you need to back up rman because neither of those guys so Bary Williams plays yeah or or or Jack Williams if you wanted to give him a go but I think baile proba it's the backup Rock Spot yes so that that would go in Bailey's favor so you're telling me there's a darling question to be asked a Meritt question or Hutchinson now given given Hutchinson I think is not something been guaranteed a continuity of games but I think it'd be harsh to to have one match and then just discard him I think that would be difficult personally if you they see him a little bit smaller as well yeah I'd certainly prefer to see Hutchinson given the chance to hit a Merrick just on the basis of he just got to the club one game then to to drop I think he needs to get a month or two or three weeks to at least give him a chance to to show his stuff so so I just get this gut feeling we haven't spoken about this is Darling any in any danger of being dropped well unfortunately and Premiership team out of mind he's got to be in the gun like he has to be and that's not because of his necessarily because of his form because I think it's improved as the years gone on but team balance you can't roll that out that forward line that I that I said you Hutchinson and just say you had marrick as well I'm playing I'm playing darling hit Merrick I I think they're very different players yeah but I I don't I don't think you can I don't think you can have the four TOS I think four TOS is Too Tall I put this way you might be right as not saying you're suggesting he should be I'd be surprised if he I think they'd like to see how darling Waterman and Oscar Allen look together Bailey Williams has going to be there too yeah well what going do yeah well that's that is the issue I now whether whether this this is just and I might be 100% wrong is there prospect that Oscar does some working the forward line he doesn't go near it well potentially but you know it's not it's not what they want him to do first game back in fact could he be the could he end up being subbed out of the game after potentially if they're up by enough or down by enough more than likely down by enough I think this is going to be a roll over by ESS no yes no yes off the they played for my reent ker last start at Marvel in and I didn't watch game but thankfully I didn't because it was apparently one of the worst in the history of the game yep perfect I watched it and I can confirm that that is the case look if we're talk about selection at West Coast there's certainly some issues here that given how poorly they lost I don't think you can roll out the same team like I don't think you can we we heard it in the media we back our system in and we backed our system in and you saw what happened I I think you you've this this is a moment where you've got to go right we've got to make some changes here I agree one one change will be forc of them obviously with Michael Walters out for a month um I was looking at possible Replacements I love Cooper Simpson but the problem with him in the last fortnite in the waffle for instance he's two points for Peele last week and a point the week before you know had a dozen disposals roughly each week that's probably not the form line you'd like for a player to get elevated it's really like I've been in that situation before right it's really interesting that um I saw that I saw it hasn't been in the form and and and that's why it's such a um it's so brutal as a waffle player or someone who's playing in second because you never know when your Chance is going to come and it's and you know at the footy Club they preach about being consistent and being you know ready when your time comes this is that so if he had have gone three goals four goals he's bashing the door down then they get a game like this in the ones he he's just a walk in like SE L if your form's good in the waffle so I think will Brody is is probably that guy at the moment his form's been consistently good Foo hasn't and and they look looks to the waffle and go who's in form and so will Brody is yeah no that was the point I was about to make so if Cooper Simpson was promoted and will Brody and oril rasma Wasson given what they've done particularly Brody in recent times I think even last weekend 33 And1 or something he's just racking up the numbers but how then does that impact and who do they Shuffle because having spoken to a couple of people about when Brody came to the club and a lot of the midfielders at freem at the time had to change their roles to accommodate will because he was a certain type of player that in terms of stoppages it was you know he was had to be at the at the calace and that other players had to work their game around him but with with maybe a change of assistant coaches at the club their style at stoppages has changed a little without trying to sound like an old I'm talking about but this this is this is where BR I think probably hasn't fit fit into the Midfield setup man it's pretty easy defensively it's pretty easy drop that five will Brody comes in why happen uh why not I just don't think well put it this way you heard the coach we fit him in that's how you no exactly but it won't happen because you've heard you've heard the coach you've heard the captain this week saying almost implicitly that they're going to back in that five y well that's that's a good thing but if we're wondering how you get will Brody into that Midfield that's how that happens so if they're not going to drop m in that five will bro no change you get beaten by 60 odd points who do you drop no they're not dropping song or brw young no and you can't just magically put will bro on a half forwards the forwards had a I mean a lot of players had Shockers which you maybe give them a you know the Mull the only thing that I've seen in the past Michael B used to do a little bit you go and play a fifth mid and and that means you've changed your structure right that means you're not backing your Midfield in you put will Brody as a fifth mid and you play five forwards ahead of the game to try and get some Midfield dominance right and and that that would be something they're looking at Midfield has been the one of their strengths this year well not defensively that's why if you're looking it defensively look I think another solution is Andy BR Shaw hasn't had the year that don't think he would have um been hoping for um we know what sort of player he one of the best in the AFL he hasn't played like the best player in the AFL I don't think that's too harsh in saying that I think he should be the guy that's going head-to-head with the best midfielder in the opposition I think he should be the windhager the say is is he the stopper I don't want to say tagger but he should be M he should be tagging so is it for instance this week is it a Matt ra to Miller top no Anderson or toke Miller leave Matt ra you know he's a stoppage base he can go head-to-head with song or F or Brody or whoever's in there put BR Shaw on Anderson or to Miller and just say beat him tagging isn't doesn't have to be Ryan Crowley tagging you know it doesn't have to be have five touches and Y Oppo has five it can be a win if you can K Nar Anderson to 20 touches and and and Annie brw is at EV every spill and because of how good he is you can say get a job done and tag and and win the game for the team yeah and it could get him into spots he needs to be in yeah look agree with that the other solution which obviously is off the table now but he talked about the five issue if he still had some confidence in his kicking I mean he'd be the player okay now we'll put you more more forward of the ball and give you but unfortunately we know overhead he's still well no that's that's a good point yeah I mean could they still Venture down that path my my fifth mid thing I hadn't thought of it that way but perhaps you put excuse me you put five forward of the footy he comes in and runs through the Midfield but you play a Brody or arasmus as an as an on baller yeah I mean when you say forward of the board you mean inside as a forward no as a as a forward mate like team teams now they got six forwards right you've probably got three High forwards and three deep forwards and of those deep forwards maybe only one is deep deep it's almost like a pyramid deepest and you got the sort of two Powers right in front of him and then you got the three half forwards that are sort of pressure guys anyway so he'd be among you know that group The the problem is with that no tackles last week so defensively as a forward that's probably not going to work as a as a player with ball in Hand of course he's a threat but with ball in hand inside 50 tell me I'm wrong but I don't feel like Nat looks like he wants to take a shot at goal anymore no but there's guys that play in forward lines that aren't aren't necessarily there to you know go and have five shots on goal and that that's why I suggested because you to play a good defender on him put it that way that's that's why I said maybe push him back to a forward role of some description anyway we'll probably be wrong in all front absolutely no doubt about that Heath Chapman uh hopefully will return after hamstring awareness right which means surely it's a hamstring injury well you know they oh yeah jeez right okay I didn't know it was hamstring L out i' be very worried about him giving his soft tissue history I agree so maybe he won't be back uh Ben king um apparently he's a 50-50 to play Ben King he's got many injuries dealing with I mean that would be a big win for fro if he doesn't have to play although they've got enough to cover him they have the big win for fro is that they're playing on their home deck and the Gold Coast Suns apart from Darwin um have been pretty average when they jump on a plane who's going to win uh sounds strange team gets beaten by 60 y you you know you think the free man I can't H the goal C absolutely not so Freo fre too but they're going to have to change some things I I think I think this is set up for fro to really rebound well do Coast can't win away from home and Foo need to win so I I don't think it's going to be a margin I I I can't see Foo um I think they wipe him I think they roll yeah I think they roll him I think I think they they would have copped a massive spray this week and they'll be on notice all of them s and they'll roll what what would be fascinating just that Midfield battle because the if you know the Millers and rs and Anderson that that would be West Coast losing to North having a week off rolling out against ESS and Marvel Stadium there's not a lot of good indicators for West Coast no and and I think what eston's shown this year is that they're very proficient very good very good against teams that are lower on the ladder and I think that'll be again the case obviously no Dom sh this week with that that hamstring injury Kelly's missing so um you know Tim Kelly's absence should be should be noted because even though you get dougen who had the concussion against North set to play this week I think be so there's there's a little question mark there Oscar Allen returns as well uh yeah there's but no raid no Cali they've still got issues in their Midfield 100% no there there's there's a massive concern whether you know Zach Meritt and what he could do on the weekend yeah I'm a bit worried about what they'll do to the Eagles I don't think they beaten esen either in Melbourne or certainly at Marvel since about 2013 so it's been a while this will be the early game on Sunday so at least we got some footy to watch on Sunday skater at 11:00 a.m. this will be kicking off on the way to the you and I both probably go to the docker Suns game but yeah that's that's a big double header on the weekend uh yeah ESS and what we've seen is that they're they're probably a fairway short of the better teams Calton got hold of them for most that game again on on the eve of King's birthday yes the better sides they haven't looked up to I mean Collingwood they they drew with but I just feel they're a length and a half away from the better sides but significantly better than teams like the eagles so they're sitting in fourth only one game inside but uh the eight but two points away from second so it's this weekend um there's some real like there could be some real swings and roundabouts here depending on results who wins like Foo being one of those essin being one of those jalong being one of those if they win they can go to second if they lose they can go to 12th or something but those teams you mentioned crazily I mean you mentioned J long I know we've laughed about but that to me there's no way they look like a at number two seed at the moment so ESS where did ESS sit well because of what they haven't done against yeah exactly the the ladder doesn't lie but by the same token you you just feel that let's be honest apart from Sydney Collingwood Carlton there's no teams that you think are are really set up well to to challenge at this stage this is a really I think this is a really dangerous game for West Coast um you mean in terms of the the the if West roll out and they don't and they're not competitive like there there should be significant hate on again and like we saw last year we talking the coach oh the club the club like you know what since their first year player has gone out of the side they've been you know non-competitive in the Midfield and and Tim C's not there as well but we saw what aliot yo could do in one quarter foot against North Melbourne that they'll need him to start like that against ESS they were terrible against that's I went away for a week I was surprised there wasn't more I know they all the club was away on a buy or a break that was that was horrendous first three quarters there I thought it was as bad as I've seen the Eagles certainly at home all year no maybe not away from home cuz they have been tailed up by big margins but yeah I just I really struggle with why North Melbourne were able to push them and then beat them I mean they did it to con yeah no true but I'm going back a week before I'm looking more at the Eagles performance in north and credit to North where it's due but I thought the Eagles if they put in that type of performance for three quarters that SC I think he might be right will end up in a a pretty significant deficit ESS and win this easily me too Colton V jalong will be our Friday night match up at the MCG we like that I think it'll be a real test to see where jong's at um your best team in the competition versus a team you know you I think maybe AR there so why do you keep referring back something said 6 weeks ago you say something 2 weeks ago I forget that but you happy like my wife to keep memory Carlton v Geelong like an elephant you guys seriously what is this crap oh where are they now seriously Jong almost out of the eight they're there're six you you gave them the crown and you said if they win this game they could go to Second yeah that's right say then shut up ah let's see who's they've lost five of their last six matches the catch and and and the blues are moving like Colton um six and four in their last 10 they've won their last three uh we're seeing some pretty good movement Mitch mcgaven should be available after the buy um from that glute injury Harry McKai same thing so they'll be close to pretty much full strength Carlton against yeah this jalong side which I I just don't think had the expectations coming into this year they overperformed a start the year eight and zero or something right they yeah I mean you're probably right and and the draw probably flattered them to some degree y uh that being said I think Chris Scot I think you said it Chris Scott's done a pretty good job to to keep them in if they play finals this year I think it's a massive tick absolutely um so on that basis I still think and I think you might have even brought this up a couple of weeks ago having um Walsh yeah come back in to that side for Carlton and Crips is good we know that hu's outstanding and Cher I'm not sure if Cher's even back in the mix um but Walsh gives him Sam Walsh gives just that real quality I think he he's the difference between them being a finals contended to possibly pushing they've got a bunch of bulls with like hu Crips Cher can be pretty bullish in there and without Walsh it's just a bunch of bulls running silk yeah I I agree with that and I think on jong's side if they probably we just don't have the depth of quality like if you could shut down Tom Stewart and it's been proven yeah and Max Max Holmes is probably standing up as the guy through their midfield if you can shut those guys down they don't get the supply to their forward line and there's not too many levers you need to pull to shut a few things down for Jalan that's why Dangerfield back's important do you see Jong B challenge at all I don't see this as a lay down ma a because uh I know we're going back to early they met they met earlier this year I think in round four or five or whatever it was they be them convincingly the cats times have changed a fair bit I think with but I think it's a reasonable indicator that they can be more than competitive is Tomahawk got another year in him do you think probably this is his last I reckon I reckon the the big uh I don't want to call him a dinosaur but like the big bull forwards like that that's a dying breed that you need to be able to up and down the ground so much more so I think this is his last yeah what whenever he finishes this year next year even if he retired tomorrow Greatest Cat of all time to it
