question start J Michael um so what can you tell us about the story of Maris grov killer grw and how he got to Arizona um yeah so uh MGK uh comes to us from Louisville was in the transfer portal um had some staff members that had some pre-existing relationships with him uh he reached out and um the guy got in touch with Coach Kina and myself and uh we evaluated him and so he decided to come to us in the spring as a walk on um just a guy that's eager to learn um you know get it done guy that uh you know shows up early stays late um trying to you know really uh perfect his Craft um really pleased with uh what we've seen thus far from him but um obvious ly still a lot that we can work on and get better at um and he's putting his best foot forward to do that uh following up on that um what do you did you were you able to find out like why things didn't click for him at his previous stops and then what gives you hope that you know things will be different for him here um yes we did um you know during the vetting process uh between myself and Coach Aina um he had a previous coach that uh coach a had some some history with so we were able to ask all our questions and um kind of checked out and um you know ultimately he's a young guy man that's looking for a new opportunity um and so we kind of laid it out before him um and uh you know as we sat down and we were having those conversations he decided that this was something that he wanted to move forward with and um we got him how do you think he's developed since spring to this point in training camp because it seems like maybe a little bit different player from when he first got here to now for you guys um absolutely um I'd agree 100% um I would say the biggest strides is just the overall knowledge of um our defense and scheme um and understanding how coverages are built and how we run them and and um you know really just just playmaking ability and you know showing up day in and day out knowing that he has to work um so um huge strides really really pleased with what he's done thus far this Camp how do you think tario is is handling the the offseason attention that he's been getting um from my perspective I would say um he's handling it well you know I've seen guys of um you know that stature status um really start to relax um and that's been the thing that we as a staff half um as you know we've put before him staying focused continuing to work for the things that he's after um and I think he's doing an awesome job um right but it's it's a part of our world especially with our youth these days right social media and all the different platforms out there that you know I tell you whether or not you're good um he's really focused on the things that we've asked him to do right in the building right here in the building and so um I think he's handled it really really well um really pleased with that part of it Michel not including the the nickels but the outside guys how many players do you feel comfortable with or trust at this point and how many do you expect to use in the first couple of games would you say I would tell you plenty enough um we we have enough um that we can go out and we can play a full game we we'll have a nice rotation of guys um and we're still bringing along some some new young guys as well um that will contribute but um with the depth that we have in the SEC in the defensive back room um we're really really pleased we have some guys that can play multiple positions and that makes you really really comfortable um moving forward so but besides um tario and Maris who are some of those young guys who may made some strides here wow yeah Emanuel carnley is a guy um you know um you know Demetrius Frey is a guy that's coming along as as well um uh G7 is also a guy that's coming along um these are some of these guys have been here some of these guys are new to the program but um they're they're progressing well and responding to the coaching um right and the soft pressure that we're applying to these guys um as there's a standard here that we play with um and that we have and um you know they're not turning the cheek um and trying to meet that standard as a corner is it pretty much a given that for most guys that they'd rather play Man Press than than Zone and what are the kind of the the challenges in your defense of doing that um I think it depends on who you talk to um you know I I I would probably uh SE her on the side that most guys would say they they'd want to play manto man um you know um especially in our room um and I'm sorry what was the second part of your question when you challenge the corners and and man like what what are you emphasizing that you really want to see from them oh man by far technique technique technique technique that that's what wins out on the island um when you're playing one-on-one um first having the understanding that um it's a tough task and you're not going to win them all um but the more you can play technique uh the more more opportunity you have to be successful on that play um and just trying to keep our guys even kill that way not letting them get too high or letting them get too low um if something goes wrong um but um you know and we' we've got some guys that have played um we got some guys that that haven't played and that's that's kind of been the message this camp and uh the guys are responding well to it so um with he obviously had a really good season last year uh somewhere around 15 pass breakups that's what's vaulted him into this position 15 wow I think I think it was a lot yeah as Justin mentioned getting a lot of attention but what are some of the areas where that you worked on with him where he could improve catching the ball all right um no I didn't and I didn't realize it was that many I know he he had double I didn't realize it was that many but um just finishing the play right right U being there is not enough um emphasized in actually finishing the play um and I think if you get you got a chance to talk to him he'd tell you the same thing but I would say from an overall standpoint one of the things that we've challenged him with is being a complete corner right what comes along with finishing um right being able to play on tight ends fit in the Run um you know being the edge of the defense a leverage Point guy um you know and then just completing his his game out on the on the perimeter which I think every young player um should always be striving to do right is is progress and focus on the technique the technical part of the game the fundamental part of the game um and that's something that he has completely locked in on um and it's exciting to watch you know can't wait to see him go out and uh you know spin on Saturdays he's expected to potentially be a first round draft pick uh next year when an NFL scout comes up to you and ask you what kind of player are we getting out of tario if we draft him what do you tell them um you know all the important things who he is as a person right um away from the game um how he's managing you know all of the hoopla um whatever they're saying about him um how he works how he approaches each day um is he a self starter um um and these are all things that you know for me um just been fortunate to get the opportunity to work with takari uh you know he's meeting all of those things so it's it's easy to talk about and you know um you know in our offices we're we're still pressing him for more you know because there is more that he can do so um you know really easy questions that way um you know um I think you know everything is in front of tario I think depending on how this season goes for him um you know we'll determine that um but the best part of him is it hadn't been a ton of conversation where that's concerned so last question Michel um Dwayne aen is kind of The Godfather of defensive backs I mean he's coached so many guys who've won Thorp Awards and been all- Americans and been in the NFL Etc what has it been like to work with him and what are some of the things that you've learned from him you should come Shadow and you should come I'm serious and come spend some time um it is awesome just to be around someone that is coached as long as he's coached um the tenure you know the the amount of time he's been tenur at specific places like Arizona Texas and Stanford um and the knowledge of the game the in-depth part of the game um you know while there's the fundamental and Technical part of the game that he's preaching and coaching and teaching every day um he's really big on the IQ part of the game um it's been it's been awesome it's been awesome to learn from him and work alongside of him um you know you you I realize as a young coach how fortunate I am um you know to be around someone man that's coached the position I played um you know coach the position that I I I you know I teach um and just learn from him you know and that's been the best part of it um I you know I'd say between himself you know coach coach Ary and me man we've we got something special going man man and uh you know I'm I'm hoping we can you know put it on full display uh this fall all right that's thank you guys
