I mean I've never done anything like this so of course like a little bit terrified former president Barack Obama and wife Michelle's eldest daughter Malia Obama made a rare red carpet appearance for a special occasion the 26-year-old attended the 50th DeVille American Film Festival in France on Friday September 6th in a video shared on TiK ToK by Paris match Malia admitted she was a little nervous to walk the carpet and also shared details about the Gown she was wearing [Music] how's it going good how excited are you to be here I'm so excited this is I mean I've never done anything like this so of course like a little bit terrified but mostly just excited could you say a few word about your look oh my gosh yeah Vivian Westwood Queen um it's cool I don't know as much about fashion but I'm happy to be wearing it okay than Malia presented her short film and directorial debut the heart at the festival she created the film under the name Malia Anne an is her middle name according to the film synopsis it tells the story of a lonely man who Grieves the death of his mother after an argument about groceries and an odd request in her will the young director was honored with the young Spirit award at the event on the festival website a page about the award reads for this 50th Anniversary Edition the DeVille American Film Festival wanted to celebrate the new figures of Tomorrow cinema by awarding a prize to an emerging Talent especially created for the event in this exceptional year the young Spirit award goes to director malan in her presence for her first short film The Heart Malia also presented the film at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival the director voiced a video for that Festival explaining her project and sharing stills from the film my name is Malia and I am the writer director of a short called the heart here's some stills from the film which will be screened with the US fiction short films this year at Sundance this is an odd little story somewhat of a fable about a man grieving the death of his mother after she leaves him an unusual request in her will the film is about lost objects and lonely people forgiveness and regret but I also think it works hard to uncover where tenderness and closeness can exist in these things the folks who came together to make this film have my heart pun intended and I'm incredibly grateful to them for giving this story life and we are grateful to Sundance for giving us the opportunity to share it with you all we hope that you enjoy the film and that it makes you feel a bit less lonely or at least reminds you not to forget about the people who are [Music]
