Michael Lorenzen last start was his return to Cincinnati where he had spent the first seven years of his career and did not disappoint Royals fans at all that we're happy to see him go and he went five and two thirds innings. He looked really strong. The Angels with Taylor Ward leading off. Ward has gone two for nine in the series swings this one grounds one right up the middle and it's out of the reach of Bobby Witt junior that's going to roll on out. The kyle is Bell and Taylor Ward on with a leadoff single. Zack Netto will be the next batter and on the 3 to 2 pitch, he's not running and a ground ball to third over to second for an out back to first and they get the double play even though garcia bobbled it just for a split second. So by not running Taylor Ward Netto grounds into a double play , Shana well, was hit by that pitch. We will bring up Anthony Rendon runner at first and a ground ball to mass at second. He's got it and over to first and that Johnny, that's right. Johnny Cueto has been recalled, he will start when you think about it. 2015 world series champion Kansas City Royals. He was a big reason why they won , you know, the World Series. And when you, what he did in game two, a complete game, he was dominant that game two. It's now one earned run hitting 260 five and the next pitch and this is hit in the air right near the Angels left fielder Taylor Ward. He waits for it to come down. It was way up there. He'll make the catch and that's the first out one gone that are now Bobby Witt Junior. And he comes into this game the best batting average in the majors 352. And he swings at the first one and hits the ball high and deep out into right field circling under, making the grab on. That one is joe Adle right near the rim of the track and one is the count and here's the next delivery. It's a ground ball hit on the right side sprawling and stopping that one is Lopez. He'll throw out Pasquin and that's how the inning on a 4 to 3 ground out. The Angels have their leadoff man on for the second straight inning. Niko is zero for seven as a big leaguer. 3 to 2 again, a runner at first does not go and strike three called. Still looks for his first big league hit and is now zero for with a strikeout and a foul out. And Mickey Moniak here's the 21 and he grounds that ball by the mound and through into center field. So Mickey Moniak has a two out single. The Angels have runners now at 1st and 2nd, only able to move up one base on that one with two outs and the next batter will be Jack Lopez. There's a ground ball, the short with charges scoops throws to first inning over and still in quest of their first big league hit bottom of the second, no score. It will be Perez got three outs on five pitches in the bottom of the first. Here's the next one. This ball is high in the air. It's well hit out in the left center field but jumping up and making the catch near the wall is Mickey Moniak. He made a nice running grab on that one boy. When that ball left the bat of Salvi Perez, it looked like a 12 count on Melendez with a little hesitation on that pitch and there's a ground ball that hit a Neto. He feels it cleanly and throws out Melendez. You know how many of these young have actually seen Johnny Cueto pitch and know that's part of his, his stick is he will shy out there the 11 pitch and a shot up the middle in the center field. So solid single and he becomes the Royals first base runner. Adam Frazier. Adam hitting 212 here comes the 20 and it's lined over the second baseman on the right center on his way to third on the single by adam Frazier. So back to back hits, he continue to be really good swings and solid contact for the Royals against Johnny Cueto. Now they're loaded for his belt. So Cueto has hit a snag here in the bottom of the second bases loaded two out second inning and there's a shot into right center field that's going to score at least two, maybe 31 runners and two runs are in. It's a double for is, and it's two to nothing is not a mystery at all. Slider knee high right over the heart of the plate and serve him in the right center and again, all of the contact against Johnny Cueto so far tonight has been loud. Word has to hit one of the two hits the Angels have had so far in this game. Lorenzen delivers sinker over the outer half called strike three and wards down looking to begin the top of the third inning runner on first with one gone for Nolan. Well, there goes that and a line drive base hit past Bobby with that makes it to third easily and it's a well executed hit and run that puts men on the corners for the Angel. If he's not going on that pitch , that's a double play ball. So happy the hitter he walked his first time up, oh, hoppy smacks it to second. Massey hops makes the catch chest high. It was hit right at him. He had to leave his feet but he hauls it in and that ends the inning. The guy you can count on pretty much every day, every day to do something. If not a lot is Bobby Wood Junior laces it down the third base line over the bag of fair ball into the left field corner rounds first base, he's the second easily with a leadoff double and with a double, he now has 200 career extra base hits his 178 hit this season. And it's now a 10 game hitting streak for Bobby Witt Jors out one away and Bobby moves over to third and now Salvador Perez comes to the plate. So round two between former battery mates and Salvador Perez has just been intentionally walked. So the Angels are putting Salvi on Cueto doesn't want to pitch to him of a rematch and Johnny Cueto now instead faces MJ Melendez. It's the ninth time this year. Perez has been intentionally walk. Here's a ground ball that's hit right to second. It's fielded by Lopez. He flips the Netto and the relay to first is in time we start the bottom of the fourth inning Royals lead the Angels two. Here's the 12 and that is a called third strike. That's a tough at bat right there. That one was borderline you could see it being called a strike, but there were a couple others that weren't strikeout for Cueto and that's his first one in the big league since last season. Two outs brings up Michael Garcia who drew a walk his first time up here is the pitch on garcia grounds it sharply out to short that's fielded by and the throw is in time and that is how the inning will end a 63 ground out to got Cueto's now retired nine straight batter. Now is Melendez the one one, Melendez lifts it down the right field line hooking toward the corner. It's off the home run and the Royals extend their lead. It's three in the bottom of the sixth. That is the first foul home run for a Royals hitter since the all star break. MJ Melendez snaps, Johnny Cueto spell, he hits his 15th home run of the season one away. So Cueto is now through six and one third innings in his season debut, Michael Massey bats. Now 1 to 0 pitch is ripped into right field that's down in front of a base hit and Michael Massey is on at first with a single and Ron Washington comes out of the Angels dugout to make a pit. It appears that Johnny Cueto is done after six and a third innings. A return to Kauffman Stadium, a return to the big leagues and Johnny Cueto gives the Royals six and a third innings a three run ball. He tips his cap to the Kauffman stadium crowd, a red cap this time, but he's got a lot to be proud of in his 2024 debut back to back strikeout that brings up joe Adle. He shingled his last time up lines one hard center field and over his foul to make the play and end the game Royals combined for a four hit shutout and they take the series.
