I think there should be cocktails and food at this uh podcast do we have a budget for that no we have no budget for anything but I will look into it all right it is Friday Anna Navaro is here still no chaa Chacha has not entered the new building yet what's up with that I have not stopped traveling so like this week I was in Kansas City yes uh and when I'm when I travel that much you know when I'm back and forth and a bunch of planes I just don't like to subject her I understand to travel delays and things like that do you feel like I mean I I don't mean to think that people aren't happy to see you but do you ever get the feeling that when you walk in a room without chaa people are disappointed every day all day every time I mean here at the view I I think I at any moment I'm going to be pummeled by the staff if she doesn't show up whoopie's asking for her uh everywhere everywhere I go uh they want to know I was in Kansas City and I left people don't bring me gifts anymore they bring me gifts for chaa now she's got Kansas City Chiefs swag so she's got a tiny little Kansas City Chief's um what do they called the things that football players wear jerseys jerseys and and a and a little bandana name hel pads no no she's no cha doesn't have a helmet this must be like how Travis Kelce feels when he shows up somewhere and people are disappointed Taylor's not there that that's what this is haha all right sorry okay the Taylor Swift can do no wrong for me right now well finally you're Bo I have become a Swifty it's been a long journey for you but you're there put glitter on me give me some friendship bracelets and I know you're looking for the I'm in my Taylor Swift era I love it all right well we have not gotten to hear your take on the debate yet so I'm excited about this um tell us where you were where you watched um what was going through your mind so I was actually in Kansas City I had to give a speech in Kansas City this week and you know I'm doing this uh CNN documentary on the Latino vote the head of the largest Latino advocacy organiz a it's called unidos her name is Janet morgia is from Kansas there is a long established Latino Community mostly Mexican American in Kansas city folks that came in a hundred years ago to work on the railroads and so I watched at her house with her family um and so it was wonderful because I was and I was filming it for CNN and I was watching it from their perspective they are uh Highly Educated uh multi-generational Latino family one is a first responder he's a fireman another one is very involved uh with education issues Janet is a national uh advocacy leader so it was very interesting to to be with that kind of family um frankly I filmed the first debate the Biden Trump debate for the CNN documentary as well at the home of uh ly Manuel Miranda's uh family and I thought people were going to jump in the pool and just you know purposely drown God it was so bad but um this was a completely different feeling um listen I thought she was I thought she was so prepared and I thought she was so strategic were you nervous beforehand not really you know not really because I know kamla Harris very very well right uh and I you know I I've been saying for years on this show and everywhere else that I up that this narrative that Kamala Harris this word Salis and is not intelligent was absolutely erroneous one of the things I'm really happy about is that I think people are finally seeing the Kamala Harris I've known for all of these years so this woman is a prosecutor this woman is a person that's highly prepared but she was incredibly strategic and the way that she baited him and just I mean she reeled him in she feted him breaded him fried him cut him into little pieces chewed him up and had him for dinner it was a beautiful thing to watch just from like the the debate tactician point of view forget the the the you know forget politics forget partisanship forget policy just the debate tactician the way she trapped him got him to fall for the bait she put there and and he just became completely unhinged increasingly lying and you know just went into his comfort zone and you know what I think happens to Trump so first he's surrounded by all of these you know conspiracy theories theorists like L Laura lomer like RFK okay and then he goes to these rallies where he says crazy things about Hannibal Lector and windmills and you know sharks and batteries and Haitians eating cats and dogs and because he's at a friendly audience at a rally you know and they all clap like trained seals that's right and he thinks it's working he thinks it works and then he goes out and says it in front of 70 million Americans and people were laughing out loud but they weren't laughing out loud with him they were laughing out loud right at him and that is a terrible thing to happen to somebody running uh for as a candidate that was the one moment where and I think in general it's been great that there haven't been audiences at these debates but that was the one moment where I was just like oh I really wish there were a crowd of people there when he starts yelling about eating uh cats that are eating the dogs I I because I think they would have laughed at I saw so many videos of groups of people watching the debate you know some were somewhere in bars somewhere in like student unions at colleges somewhere at people's houses and when he said that people burst out laughing right and then there's all these videos of of dogs and cats hearing him say that yeah Joy's just scrolling through them all day long and just enjoying it so much and she's been and so here's the thing with that though so it it's I mean it's funny because it's absurd it's funny because it's ridiculous it's funny because you can't imagine that this man who's a former president who leader of the Free World you know was the leader of the Free World for four long years could actually be spewing such stupidity right so that's why it's like like it blows your mind funny but then you realize how racist it is how dangerous it is listen Brian if it was 20,000 people from Greenland or Ireland in Springfield Ohio you think that they would be saying they're eating cats and dogs you know you know why I lean into the the humor of it and it's because I think that's actually I think that bothers the more I think being outraged about it they want you to be outraged about it they want you to call them racist they want you to do those things but when you laugh at it and it's just so ridiculous it's not Landing I think it's I don't know so I have to tell it's a debate for sure you know I one of those uh undecided unicorns yes I have one in my family in our a real one in our family chat and she turned she said she's now closet Kamala as a result of the debate and a lot of it was seeing Trump just spew out insane things as if they were true because he wasn't listen when he said that about the cats and the dogs you he wasn't trying to be funny he wasn't being sarcastic he wasn't being hyperbolic he was saying it and and this is the part that that drives me nuts this is this you know how Kamala says the old the same old tired Playbook this is his old 100% Playbook where he he wages attacks against immigrants right in 2016 it was Mexicans are criminals and rapists uh in 2020 it was they're poisoning the blood of America they are you know he tries to attack immigrants and turn immigration into into you know this this cudel to drive fear Into the Heart of Americans and get people to vote for him out of fear angst distress and anger so instead of uplifting Americans instead of calling to our better Angels instead of trying to do what a real leader would do which is try to unite us and and you know and make us feel good as one people he's trying to win based on hate and Division and bigotry and discrimination so you know I think it reveals him for exactly who he is I was um you know I also the contrast when you saw Kamala versus uh Trump right I mean full of Youth and and vigor and her faces I mean I just love the I just loved her body language what did you think of the debate i i in the beginning for the first question I thought she seemed a little nervous her voice seemed a little uh tight and then suddenly she was off and running and it was a pleasure to watch I knew Kamala would do well I didn't think she would do as well as she did I mean she you know a lot of times you watch debates and you can and then there's it's like more of a tie and a depends on what perspective you're watching whether you think who won or this this was there's no question about it I mean the only person who thinks he won is Donald Trump and his sickle fans and and he doesn't even think he won he must have of course he thinks he doesn't think he won if he thought he won he'd be agreeing to a second debate well one of my favorite things to do in those moments is to turn on Fox and some of the conservative media and see how they try to spin it and and they were having trouble they were now he says you know because he's trying to say that Kam La haris lost because price fight anytime there's a price fight the loser immediately wants a rematch okay well what does the winner do every time he wins uh a boxing match he immediately has to go out and defend that title or retire those are the two choices for for a winner so if he had won he should want to defend that title and he should be very confident about you know what what the benefits of the debate are I I think I think the debate cost him votes I I I think so too but I guess we'll find out I mean it's funny because we've talked about this but traditionally and you know much better than I do because you've been in politics forever debates don't usually move the needle really until this cycle where we saw you know what happened after with with President Biden I I wonder if it's just a different game now I I think I I've seen debates move the needle I I remember in Florida Jeff Bush running for governor against uh lton Charles when he lost he lost that that election the first election and I remember um Lon Charles came out with this this this like I guess it's like an old Florida saying um he said something like the old heon hunts at the dawn of day or something like that and Jeb looked at him like what in the hell are you talking about what does that even mean and I think that cost him votes in parts of Florida yeah oh wow some of the more rural parts of Florida yeah all right well let's change gears for a second because now you're the maven of football everything you talk about his football and I want to get your thoughts on on Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins player he was pulled over by police on the way to his game last Sunday body cam footage showed him being pulled out of his car and held to the ground when he wouldn't roll down his window we talked about this backstage a lot I didn't make it onto the show because we've had so much going on but I wanted to get your take on what your reaction was when you heard this happen um you know I I didn't even know this man's name Tyreek Hill uh before last week as you know I know nothing about football I'm just subjected to it by you and my husband and um I was horrified when I saw the body come cam I was I was uh horrified because it's so many I'll tell you what really broke my heart that they were Latino cops you know they were speaking English but I could hear their accent they sound like me they're Latino cops in Miami treating an African-American driver that way and and I just think it you know it brings home the idea that if this could happen to a Miami Dolphin player as he's driving into the stadium in his you know fancy car a superstar I know you don't know him but he's an absolute Superstar what what does that mean for everybody else I will tell you you know I I I have had conversations many many conversations particularly when Obama was President with with Hispanic friends of mine in Miami Hispanic family of mine in Miami and and I remember when the Trayvon Martin thing happened and I remember when Barack Obama gave that race speech and he talked about having the talk how every black parent has to have the talk we talked about teenage child I remember so many Latino friends of mine saying what the hell is he talking about but why is he always making it about race and it's a it's a concept that is somewhat foreign because remember Miami is a majority minority City where most you know the establishment is is Hispanic and and I and so I you know because it is Tyreek Hill who is a hero to the community who they all cheer for I think it brought home that point and it's you know it's no longer good coming out of something horrible yeah you know and I and I think Tyreek Hill um wants this to be a conversation and wants to use I've seen some of the um interviews he's given wants to talk about getting the community together it was horrifying for me because when I was growing up in Miami in the 80s and 90s there were a lot of incidences of um police abuse of force uh and it was pitting Hispanics versus African Americans I remember there being riots I remember me not being able to go to school because there were riots in Coconut Grove I remember William loano um a cop who you know shot uh somebody I mean it's just these things happened a lot in Miami leaders in the community have worked very hard to uh mend some of those wounds and those riffs and so I just I just hated to see this happening for so so so many reasons the Miami Dade Police Department has opened an investigation and one of the officers invol in the incident was placed on administrative duties an attorney for Tyreek Hill said they are demanding for the immediate termination of that officer well I want to talk about something positive I want to congratulate you on being featured in times second annual Latino leaders list this is very cool yeah from now on I just want you to refer to me as Latino leader do not I will not answer to anything else yes ma'am the list highlights 17 trailblazing us-based Latino figures who are reshaping their Industries and the world what was your reaction to making this this is really cool you know actually um our our PR person here Lori told me about it uh said you know they've reached out they want you to be on this they they've asked for you to be on this Latino list and I you know I always have so much going on and I had to give an interview and and and Lori was trying to schedule it and I mean it's just you know I'm I'm always like on a hamster wheel I'm just running running running running right between cities between jobs between this between that and so I I gave the interview but you know but seeing the list and who I was with um which came out yesterday incredible company it's it's such a huge honor and I'm also you know grateful particularly in the middle of this of this election season when there is such such attacks on immigrants I am grateful that the contributions Latinos have made to this country are being highlighted I hope that there's a day when we don't need lists I hope there's a day when we don't you know when we don't need to have things um that that highlight it because it's just we we take it for granted but today where things are and the attacks on immigrants and the attack you know the the discrimination and the bigotry that happens I think anytime we can highlight positive impact of Latinos in this country it's a good thing and and uh and I'm you know I'm just really happy to be in that company there's going to be a a big party you should come with me I wish I could it's on the LA it's in La isn't it yeah so I got to do the show but um you think they'd notice if you weren't here I think yeah I think they'd notice I think they'd notice I think the I've missed like two shows and bad things happen when I miss but it's okay um you did say something in the piece that I loved you said in the piece that things have changed in media in your lifetime in the time you've been doing this and that now it you are starting to hear people with accents like yours on TV and see more than one person of color on a panel like our show do you see this trend continuing I do I I I think I see it and particularly uh you know because there's more people um that look like me in in the sea Suites right uh and demanding representation and also because I think Studios I think networks I think in the media industry people are realizing the economic power of the Latino community of and of communities of color so uh you are losing out on an Economic Opportunity if you don't have representation around your tables and in front of you know and in so that people and watch on TV it it you have to reflect the audience it means a lot to me because um I can't tell you how many times I get stopped um by usually young kids young you know teenagers people in their early 20s at airports at grocery stores at you know wherever and uh people tell me Hispanic kids tell me how much it means to them to see somebody that that represents them that looks like them that sounds like them on TV and that's one of them that's one of the bestest proudest most wonderfullest things that come with with this job it's also very humbling and it's also you know a big responsibility because you want to try not to embarrass um a community um and um I mean most of the time I just embarrass my parents but anyways so so it's it that part is really touching and I you know I I honestly I know people laugh every time I say this but this is a true story I honestly did not know I had an accent okay you're not supposed to laugh Brian well I mean I didn't know I had an accent when until I got on national TV right and then um you know and then there was social media and the people who who uh who loved me would would tweet me about my sexy Latina accent and the people who hated me would uh tweet me and say you know go eat another burrito and go back to Mexico it's horrible and I was like what I have an accent you remember when you met Charro at at Halloween we both sounded exactly the same this is my point you think Charro doesn't have an accent well but listen I live in Miami we all sound like me I mean listen have you heard Pitbull speak yes I have okay Pitbull was born in the United States of America he was born in hiia Florida listen it works for you I'm not at least I came here when I was 8 years old I have the excuse of being an immigrant I it's a great accent it's fantastic what what um what generation Italian are you in in America a couple back my uh great-grandparents okay so so you didn't know anybody in your family who who came here from not directly no no but you know in in in Latin America there's a lot of different accents like in the US right the accent from somebody from Alabama is very different from somebody from Boston the accent from somebody from Argentina in Spanish is very different from somebody from Cuba so it's you know it's like that in all types of languages absolutely well before we go what we have to talk about we're going to back to football but this one you like it's the about what happened with Shannon sharp another person whose name I had never heard before now you'll never forget uh he's a another NFL legend he accidentally went live on Instagram while having sex um your your take on this was that Al would love it if this happened to him so he'd have you know be broadcasting it through the the speakers he would be he would be in his convertible he would be in his convertible car with a top down and the Sounds playing in on a loud spe and he'd be he'd probably like have somebody you know in the back seat with a sign that says you know that's me or something I would leave the country if that happened to me I literally would you know would send you a a text from Bali asking you to please send me my personal effects what would you do oh god um I don't know I don't know I will I will say that I have to laugh because you were the only one at the table who admitted to watching this thing and I I I don't want to I'm not going to out anybody but at least one person at that table was lying oh I don't know why they all pretend to be these prudes you know I mean give me a break but you know what's happening now though I don't know what to do you need to show me how to get rid of this so because I looked at all these Tyreek Hill stories your algorithms changed and because I I you know then all these Shannon sharp stories showed up and now I am being bombarded bombarded by football stories this needs to end please how do I make this change it's really you know people don't realize that it's it's so what really impacts your algorithm is when you send something to somebody else that's on your feed so if you looked at the the body cam footage from Tyreek Hill and sent it to people that means that you're very invested in Tyreek Hill which means football which means these things and that's why people see so many things that they hate on social media because if they're if they see something outrageous that somebody said a a commentator they don't like said and they send it around can you believe they said this that tells them they need to send you more and more of that stuff so that's why so many people can't stand their own Feats so the the way to De beat this is to and is to find things you like and send them around like send cute dog photos to people to send uh things I mean you do like politics and you like being in the middle of all this so that part's fine but just do not interact with things that you don't care about and then you go well I most of the time I don't respond to the Trolls but uh also you know I I I mean I I I just I can't understand the amount of football content that is now being it looks like my Twitter feed thrown at me no it's it's it's it's got awful I mean I yeah I I didn't real I yesterday I was looking at it like is this my phone yeah is this you know did I grab somebody else's phone it was terrible and I went to sleep with like a a cryptic text from my husband last night we're losing yes the Miami Dolphins play again he takes a very personal yeah no I do too I feel the same way no my my feed is nothing but it's a mix of like you know political stuff from the stuff about the show football and Best Bets in the NFL and then uh like some parenting things and then a lot of Disney World stuff all right thank you very much you're hungry all right well that's a good if you're hungry we should go it's it's lunchtime yes it is all right thank you for joining me today
