Did CHIP KELLY Leave UCLA For OHIO STATE Football Job to Potentially Replace RYAN DAY?

they're dealing with the potential coach on the hot seat in Ryan day so what does he do he hires an offensive coordinator that offensive coordinator goes and gets a job at Boston College and Bill O'Brien leaving the door for UCLA to get left high and dry with Chip Kelly saying after it's all said and done I'm going choose in late February very late you know in the season when it comes to prepping for the next year to go be an offensive coordinator at Ohio State at a now conference rival to coach under a guy who he coached in his playing days who he hired to his staff in the NFL in College at New Hampshire in San Francisco right and that is what happened that chummy chummy relationship and I believe those two coaches were together when UCLA and Ohio State got announced they were in the Big 10 together they were playing golf I think that's the story so then of course earlier today ESPN you have Desmond Howard who said you know things on the hot seat Ryan Day hot seat right he's got a win with Jim harball out there and no longer at Michigan and they've got their own problems despite Michigan winning a national championship and UCLA we've we've got our own beef with Michigan that predates any Conor stallions nonsense so you got a a Michigan Alum Heisman Trophy winner thrown out the idea that Chip Kelly could be a potential replacement if things go bad one the Optics could kind of make sense it's Unique that you could fall upwards if you're Chip Kelly after having a 35 and 34 overall record at UCLA Big 10 pundit would points to UCLA doesn't have the infrastructure Chip Kelly did so much did so much to the grow the program talked nice things about Terry doning Hue the hype was real when Colorado came to the Rose bow everything right but from a UCLA perspective we all knew that chip should have been fired and if they had the financial resources if they could if for whatever reason they couldn't utilize the buyout they chose not to and it just wasn't in the cards for UCLA they did not fire him after you know whether it's waserman telling them we're not going to buy him out you're gonna have to wait he left which significantly helped the UCLA budget that he did the timing was Not So Graceful could have been after the bowl game could have been in late December could have been in early January could have been in mid January no after was all said and done after all the coaching craziness with the late coaches being hired UCLA still decided with a coach literally going into a year or two after being extended that they were not going to go so the funny thing is with the Michigan Alum throwing chip Kell's name out there it was recently talked about by Ryan day when he was on a show with Greg Moy about how chip did not want to be the CEO he did not want to be the CEO he clearly forgot how to recruit so it's kind of funny that the idea is being floated out there now let's be real it's the Michigan Alum probably thrown out there for craziness talking had purposes but we're going to bite we're going to chew the fishing line was thrown out there we're going to take it in UCL is not going to lose Chip Kelly to eventually become the Ohio State head coach and the the rational line of thinking here is if Ohio State doesn't do well this year how much is that gonna fall on Chip Kelly because remember last year UCL had an elite defense Elite defense in 23 with Danton ly which was one of the better hires from Chip Kelly how they're able to find Danton ly who then jumped across the the quote unquote Pond across the city to USC right UCL couldn't have the resources financially to keep Danton Lynn from going to USC to be a co-defensive coordinator of all things now if UCLA was halfway decent in a usual Chip Kelly year offensively could have made up his mind at quarterback whether was benching Dante Mo whether it's coming out and saying we're going to start the freshman and figure it out or they're going to find a way to win with garbers in 23 like they eventually did at the end of the season he could have commanded that room UCLA in 23 does things they had flaws special teams was by no imagination good but UCLA had quite capable returners could have used the kicking game better and yes the offensive line was not there but who is to blame Chip Kelly and now the Joe K's going out recruiting kids in La that he didn't do when he was the head coach of UCLA and now he's going and expanding his big 10 territory as an offensive coordinator at Ohio States so did he leave to go be an Ohio State because that's a fun proposition it'd be a unique question considering how long Ryan day has been there after Urban Meyer was no longer the coach and the success that Meyer had whatever you thought about him it just hasn't been reached in the same idea under Ryan day other than them nearly upsetting Georgia in the college football playoff semifinal on New Year's Eve in 2022 that was about the highest the heights of Ohio State in recent years right when a kick went wide left or whatever or right at midnight on the East Coast so if Chip Kelly is going to get hired as a Ohio State head coach it just it doesn't make any sense because if they're going to succeed with Lil Howard and after what happened at UCLA DeShaun Foster is left to pick up the ashes and the remains of what Chip Kelly left now did Chip Kelly have to do things to help bring UCLA back to fruition after what was left with Jim Mo certainly probably did he have to go through a CO error did he introduce UCLA earlier on than Stanford did to the transfer portal good they got that ready to go with this Administration now what was left to be desired was the entire Chip Kelly tenure whether it's the opportunity to win the any big games he certainly succeeded his fair share against USC which was always great but when it came to one of the biggest games in recent memories against the Trojans at the Rose bow UCLA felt a little short in that one and then it came to multiple big games in 20 3 earlier big games against Oregon in 22 where UCLA just could not get big wins and in 2020 that whole season was a a season of falling short and yes it was a l season due to covid and the Pack 12 starting late so it's just kind of funny that that actually comes as an idea being out there I think there's zero chance that if Ryan day is Let Go by Ohio State that they turn and pivot to Chip Kelly I I just don't see it when he left the job to go somewhere else now there crazier things that have happened he went from the Eagles then went in San Francisco and San Francisco immediately realized their mistake and got rid of him not sure how Ohio state would land there and after all the crazy coaching carousel there was last year you could certainly see maybe something similar happening this year that we just do not see at this very moment right we you saw Brian Kelly go from Notre Dame to LSU we saw UCLA sit there on her hands before eventually getting a player first coach in the likes of DeShaun roster where the entire locker room burst out in excitements but it's just kind of funny to see UCLA fans we want to get rid of him at the end right after the Arizona State loss that was embarrassing embarrassing and then the way it was all dragged out how oh they beat USC no no no anybody in the right Minds we all saw chip at the end should have been let go and the Bruins could have had their pick but I'm loving the energy and the hype that Deshawn Foster is bringing and everything happen happens for a reason and I do not think that any reason other than Desmond Howard playing tricks and making fun of Ohio State the fact that they might even consider Chip Kelly if day is on the hot seat that'd be so funny and from a UCLA perspective don't think it's reasonable okay but what chip did Master is the idea of the transfer portal and there's a report coming out of yaho sports about how potentially that might change the spring football transfer Windows okay so now we just talked about a segment with Chip Kelly what he the one thing he really did well at UCLA which meant he neglected other things was the transfer portal and UCLA has done quite a bit under DeShaun Foster to bring in guys from the portal who went in the spring window those coaches who leave later in the season right they or guys who don't like their standing after spring practice they can finish their classes go to a new school fresh year get a full year of school underneath their belt now there's proposal to eliminate the spring portal window and the question is H do we want a single football portal window which means if this potential proposal according to Ross Dellinger sources they get rid of the spring portal that would be the one portal would happen during bow season when we're talking college football playoff we're talking coaches may be leaving it makes no sense for that to happen considering you could do that later after the national championship game and do that later for mck Cronin the one thing he said this year was I am going to be there looking instead of watching March Madness I'm going to watch march bis to see what players are in the portal be ready and know that guys are going in the portal and who did Cronin get he went after a Louisville scorer in sky Clark he went after lmu's Dominic Harris Tyler Belo all key parts of this portaling process and a team that made it into the tournament he finally got William Kyle III all right that was just four of the six transfers UCLA brought in this year okay mck Cronin hammered the portal and that was during March Madness which just seems irrational irrationally early just like if you eliminate the spring portal why not move it earlier of some sort why not put it after the college football championship game why not put it in January and you leave it open for extra guys in the championship in the playoffs if your team is in a playoff or in contention for a playoff you could do it later and you have an extension but if your team is out or your season is done then you have that window to make it happen of course then the window extends if you have the likes of a coach leag the portal opens and UCLA had that open after chip Killy left then you had Deshawn Foster get guys and what the window means is the window of opportunity for kids in the thousands to go put their name in the portal doesn't mean they have to commit right away they can commit whatever that does not mean they have to commit right away let's get that squared away they don't have to commit immediately in those 15 days all they have to do is just get their name in there analyze the situation team's got a pony up their naal potential and I know what was it the Miami of Ohio coach was yelling at Alabama talking about how they contacted their kicker early Alabama stole the kicker so coaches are already frustrated with how everything works out now if you're prepping for a bowl game and we're having guys sit out what's the best showcase to get to the next level for NFL Scouts to see for the rest of Athletics to see bowl games with teams at mostly full strength why not do that it would make more sense to see how the winter goes and for UCLA in this year the battle is will they get to a bowl game if they decide to make that a new change in the next year or two we already see the expansion of scholarships the direct payto playay model the expanded college football playoff all things that are changing as many staff members as you want they can go recruit Things Are complet completely changing the landscape of not only just college football but College athletics in general which has happened with conference re alignment first year in which extreme conference realignment has taken place involving two to three to four to five conferences the elimination of one in the expansion of the power four and rumors of other Co you know schools going elsewhere so the proposition of getting rid of that Spring franer football window for portaling it it just it's interesting it would be a unique thing to happen to college football and I just wonder what it would mean and I think that would be a little dumb if they do it in the winter if they don't move it later if they don't move it until like January where all the kids are done they enjoy winter break they could spend their winter break officially visiting these places get their finals out of the way some teams that they're in the playoff extend it later that just seems like it makes the most sense if you have a winter portal window make it after the bull after the playoff window or when the playoff teams have whittel down to four or something as opposed to 12 to 8 to four to two to one right or in the middle of the bull season when we're trying to have a fun bull season and we're still trying to generate interest right Bowl season's still fun and we want to see our players all play for their pride for the rest of their season in a bowl game even if they don't make college football playoff now talking about other news in was recruiting wise involving a UCLA opponent this year now Big 10 rival Iowa as we go to Big 10 stories Kirk frence one of the longest tenard coaches actively coaching in all of college football you've got the Iowa head man who is self-reported a level two potential violation right so you've got all the craziness of Michigan the show cause to Jim Harbaugh you've got Michigan who Beyond just the Connor stallions thing has what Michigan did not do correctly when it came to covid recruiting or something then you've got Kirk Fen who I believe it is the k m recruiting or whomever when they recruited somebody early it's him and the wide receiver coach who are suspended for the home opener so I wonder if that's gon to make a difference in this season or if anything else comes out Kirk Fen looked very apologetic in his press conference when he gave his quotes it won't happen again and you have to feel for some coaches right you have to feel it's get to ridiculous at this point it used to be straightforward it used to be a little crazier now yes it makes a little sense don't recruit players during the season why not push the portal opening contact season to well after the season ends or these crazy days and times and oh what if he's on mountain time and I'm on Eastern time and I call him two hours early you know it it's getting ridiculous but he is suspended for the home opener for their opener and I wonder if there'll be anything that happens down the line I meant to talk about this fair and steel during the the other podcast where we talked more big 10 stories right where Rutgers lost their starting linebacker that'll be key for UCLA when they face him in New Jersey later you've got you know teams who are changing a bunch of things up and down right like PJ Fleck one of their news was I spurned UCLA when in reality it looked like it was spun that UCLA never had him on the final list on the short list and he eventually went back to Minnesota High Mighty we can talk about that when UCLA plays Minnesota later this year and UCLA does host Iowa later this year in how UCLA is being short Chang in the eyes of the media when it comes to Big 10 love big 10 apparent competition in football so we'll see how it plays out this right cruising on Final segment let's revisit that Pro Football Focus release of where Ethan garbers is in terms of big 10 quarterbacks they red all the quarterbacks and all of FBS I talked about it let's bring it up again UCLA's quarterback Ethan garbers unquestioned starter the Bruins played a lot better at the end of the 23 season when he was your starter by no means is he a Heisman Trophy winner but sometimes you need those unquestioned leaders the guys to make the right decisions and in his case just the ability to decipher what's going on the field that true freshman Dante Moore did not have in his freshman year little alone the protection in front he's somebody who if he can survive any hits he takes this year at the o line can provide him any time lots of weapons on the exterior and plenty of running backs to hand the ball off to go elsewhere currently in the overall Pro Football Focus Big 10 quarterback rankings you got Dylan Gabriel Drew Allard Tyler van djk Miller Moss will Howard so those are your top five quarterbacks then you've got will roders the transfer going to Washington Curtis roor going to Indiana Hudson card from Purdue Luke Alm Illinois and then finally do you have Ethan gar is at number 10 ahead of the Michigan State former Oregon State Beaver Aiden Charles Dylan rayola who is 12th Max brosmer the FCS jump up to Minnesota led the FCS in passing yards Kade mcnamer at Iowa for an offense that has just not looked like a 21st century offense in 20 billion years then you've got Athan K manakis cam Manan I'm getting his name wrong I'm gonna stop there Billy Edwards Jr and Mike r at Northwestern so where do I think you've got garbers I think garbers could certainly be closer to the top six than he would be to the bottom nine in this list and somebody's got to make a list somebody's gonna do it and make us mad garbers continues to be overlooked Overlook by myself last year although the talent was there with more I don't see why Chip Kelly couldn't come out last year and be any more straightforward and say as you know sometimes coaches do like to have these quarterback battles and they bench a guy and something happens right you saw sa and have to do that with his quarterback last year and they made it all the way to college football playoff and were a snap away potentially from being in the National Championship Game and his final game as head coach for Alabama in the Rose bow right so even the top tier teams can go through struggles and have quarterbacks and make their race all the way through the college football season which will look a little more interesting with teams up to 12 teams making the college football playoff but I just struggle to see like Drew Aller right away right Tyler van djk right away is the number three Miller Moss that's a lot of High Praise based off like a performance will Howard I think should be amongst the top three quarterbacks after what he's done over at you know K I think he should be much higher Will Rogers put up a lot of yards as a bulldog in Mississippi State but a new coach new system didn't even get recruited over there by jedf fish initially got re-recruited so we'll see and then between roor card and altm that is where it's Unique right that's where garbers can slot in to be a top seven quarterback top six quarterback potentially in the Big 10 conference when it comes to some of these teams on the UCLA schedule Indiana's quarterback with a new head coach you've got Purdue Illinois Purdue fairly recently made it to a big 10 title game going six and three but it's a little different in today's day and age so I just think garur is being overlooked and I think there's some talented quarter back s right at under garbers right Michigan State's projected starter in childes has not had an official start he was going back and forth with DJ W and rayola a true freshman he's gonna have his struggles and success brasmer has already played the Collegiate level many years it just a matter of can the main quarterback be the main man in this Big 10 conference and Kate MCM has been waiting for that opportunity to explode on the Iowa scene if they get their offense right they are going to do big things in Big 10 play but Iowa has never been an offense it's always been can they can you score points in Iowa and the Michigan's quarterback R gers is excited to get the Minnesota quarterback and yet their quarterback's rated three spots lower than the new current Minnesota quarterback it's a funky list that this pro football focused quarterback ranking is it's funny how it plays out and if UCLA is getting that much doubt when it comes to the cleveland.com rankings when it comes to CBS Sports having UCLA bottom tier 18th one of the better read UPS I've seen in terms of projecting this UCLA team it large in part comes down to can the o line protect can Garber stay healthy and how much can the defense with just two of their top three two of the top 12 tacklers returning three of the top 12 can TOA help anchor the interior defensive line all those things that all those question marks you could see in the quarterback list and some of it is yes Barbers did struggle at times there throws he missed lack of the game against USC but when he came off out of injury against Cal when he came off the bench when he didn't start and they had Colin schle the Bruins got a jolt of energy and played much better in the LA bowl and despite that opening game against col Carolina when Dante Moore clearly looked better and the team had that spark the unquestionable leadership and after the Freshman struggles begin to hit against better defenses in the Pack 12 last year that's when Garber started to take a hold the opportunity to switch quarterbacks happened and that's when Bruin the Bruins sprinted towards the Finish Line when Ethan garbers was healthy and could have very well UCLA could had a much better record if garbers was healthy for the Arizona State game healthy for the cow game and everything in between top 10 quarterback in a big 10 that's got 18 teams okay in a regular Big 10 where there's 10 teams I need to be in last place and he's in the bottom half of a conference that's got a ridiculous amount of teams and I'd like to compete and say garbers will play closer to a top six top five quarterback in the Big 10 conference then he will play like a bottom nine quarterback and if he does that's where UCLA makes a bowl game they get seven to eight wins and that's an optimistic scenario doesn't mean that's G to happen if he plays well it automatically means eight wins that's where the surprise can happen now if he lives up to expectations 10th 11th quarterback in the conference UCLA is not going to make a bow game now if he plays a little bit above expectations UCLA should be fairly competitive and have a lot of fun with the brains of Eric benmy combining with the veteran leadership of Garbus should be a fun year still question marks going in the Hawaii game but not a quarterback all right so get your hands up Bruins fans eight clap time baby and one two three four five six seven eight U C la
