Chrissy Tegan and her husband John Legend are revealing their six-year-old son's medical diagnosis as a pediatrician shares advice for what to look out for your own kids Morgan Norwood is back with the details hey Morgan good morning morning to you Rachel Christy tan and husband John Legend they share four children together in fact we just saw them over the week cheering on Team USA over in Paris in the US Olympics but this morning they're embracing a new world after finding out their son miles has Type 1 diabetes and this morning they're offering support to T1 families too this morning actress and model Chrissy Tegan opening up about her six-year-old son's Health revealing miles was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after being hospitalized for a stomach bug while at summer camp tan writing on Instagram I've learned since then that this is how so many young children end up being diagnosed with type 1 there's no way to prevent type 1 diabetes and we also don't know why some people are more prone to it than others the autoimmune disease is a chronic condition where the pancreas doesn't make enough insulin and the body is unable to process sugar in many cases experts say the start of symptoms can be really hard to differentiate from normal child behaviors If the child is starting to drink more than before urinate more than prior and wetting the bed when they used to be dry overnight increased hunger abdominal pain we can also see weight loss Teegan says she decided to share her family's Journey after she says her fans picked up one miles glucose monitor in this photo that she shared of her family sheing bring on Sone bils in Team USA children and adults with type 1 diabetes require insulin therapy and this can be done by a subcutaneous injection or there's the possibility of wearing a insulin pump which provides continuous insulin tan going on to reveal they just gave miles's first insulin shot this week explaining here we go a different new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the Fly and Chrissy Tegan isn't the only celebrity calling attention to to it either earlier this summer Grammy award-winning singer Usher shared that his son also has Type 1 diabetes during a visit on Capitol Hill advocating for early detection there is currently no cure for type 1 diabetes so it means synthetic insulin is required to stay alive guys so important there're spreading this awareness too getting that out there Morgan thank you so much we appreciate it
