[Music] Quinton Tarantino believes that Alec Baldwin is partially responsible for the Fatal onset shooting of helina Hutchins during the production of rust on the August 25th episode of Bill Mars Club random podcast the host asked the acclaimed director for his thoughts on the October 2021 incident in which Baldwin 66 fire the prop gun that killed Hutchin the film cinematographer I think I'm being fair enough to say that the armorer the guy who handles the gun is 90% responsible for everything that happens when it comes to that gun Tarantino began but the actor is 10% responsible it's a gun you are a partner in the responsibility to some degree pointing out that there is generally a procedure in place which is detailed for the actor handling the firearm he added if there steps to go through you go through them and and it's done with due diligence and you know it's effing for real representatives for Baldwin did not immediately respond to entertainment Weekly's request for comment Hutchins was killed and the film's director Joel Souza was injured when a prop gun that Baldwin was holding discharged a live round on the rust set on October 21st 2021 the actor was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023 but the charges were later dropped to provide for further investigation into the case Baldwin was then charged a second time in January 2024 responding to the charges sag released a statement which opposed the view expressed by Tarantino arguing that actors are not responsible for inspecting guns on set an actor's job is not to be a Firearms or weapons expert the statement read Firearms are provided for use on set under the guidance of multiple expert professionals directly responsible for the safe and accurate operation of that firearm Baldwin pleaded not guilty and throughout the legal battle has maintained that he didn't pull the trigger in July a New Mexico judge threw out the involuntary manslaughter case against the actor dismissing the case with prejudice so it cannot be refiled prior to that rust armor Hannah guier as Reed was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in relation to the incident and sentenced to 18 months in prison during his conversation with Tarantino Mar proposed an alternative to film sets using guns loaded with blanks but the Oscar winner strong objected why can't we just do it this way Mar began there's nothing in the gun nothing so when the actor pulls the trigger nothing happens except you here except that's bloodless Tarantino interjected can't you put that in in post production Mar suggested Tarantino replied yeah I guess I can add digital erections to porno movies but who wants to a watch that it's exciting to shoot the blanks and to see the real orange fire not at Orange fire you've got to catch it the Pulp Fiction director additionally argued that for as many guns as we've shot off in movies there are few examples of individuals being killed in onset Firearms accidents that's a pretty fing good record he said and later added that the rust incident is the kind of f up that happens that undermines an entire industry since 2021 Hutchin shocking onset death has drawn comparisons to the untimely 1993 death of Brandon Lee The 28-year-old actor and Son of late martial arts star Bruce Lee was killed after being hit by a044 caliber slug while filming a death scene for the cult classic the crow the 1993 incident was the last recorded accidental death by a prop gun on a movie set though Hollywood otherwise has a long history of onset fatalities prior to Lee actor John Eric hexom was killed on the set of a TV series cover up in 1984 when he accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun loaded with blanks
