On the menu today.. what's up guys my name is Brandon and welcome back to Apple weekly in this episode we're going to discuss even more iOS 18 and 18.1 features and changes we're going to talk last minute iPhone 16 details an update on next month's Mac focused event a very nice addition to Apple music a crazy air tag story and more and as always if you enjoy these Apple weekly episodes be sure to give this video a thumbs up okay so this week This week.. was a quiet week as expected it's the C before the storm that's how it is every year the week before the Apple event the only software release that we saw this week was Vision OS 2 Beta 9 so we did not get the new watch OS beta that was missing from you know the other beta 8s that got released last week and we did not see any additional iOS 18 software updates this week we're waiting until the RC which is coming next week as we talked about in the previous Apple weekly episode but as far as iOS 18 beta More iOS 18 Beta 8 Changes 8 goes you know last week I talked about the Facebook dark mode icon and this was not actually exclusive to iOS 18 A lot of people on iOS 17 were also seeing this Facebook icon turn dark even on iOS 17 or older devices and that's because this was actually a bug Facebook came out and confirmed meta confirmed that this was a bug and it was fixed with an app update but as far as anything else goes we did not see anything new with beta 8 this week we talked about last week how we got the dark mode icons and spotlights and the descriptions up top but there's really nothing else that's been discovered in iOS 18 however next We should have new features next week week when the RC version gets released I would expect us to uncover some new features and changes in iOS 18 because Apple always releases the change log for the software which will show us some you know it's going to show all every single thing included in the updates and some of those little tidbits will be something that was overlooked or just not discovered in iOS 18 as a whole so we'll talk about that when the RC version gets released which will most likely be on Monday now as far as iOS iOS 18.1 & Apple Intelligence Thoughts 18.1 goes we are still currently on beta 3 again we did not see an update this week for that however next week I would expect to see an update now I have to say that the summarize notifications is still my favorite Apple intelligence feature yet this feature is so useful when you can see your all your notifications on your lock screen just summarized like I get a lot of Discord notifications if I'm in a group chat with a lot of you know notifications the fact that it will summarize all those notifications from that application is a huge deal that's that's really what I think you know AI is meant to do it saves you time and it saves you having to go in there and read everything I love that I think it's more useful than cleanup I think it's more useful than the writing tools because you don't really use those every single day you know what I mean but the summarized notifications I use it literally throughout every single day so that's been a big deal for me and I think that a lot of people are going to be really you know happy with that especially if you get an iPhone 16 and you're not able to take advantage of Apple intelligence just yet and we did also see a new animation here in apple music when you go in or out of a playlist so a minor change there to the animation we also did see a new tab bar bar at the top of the music application for iPad OS 18.1 and speaking of Apple music we also got New Apple Music Feature a change this week server side so if you're on iOS 17 or iOS 18 you will see this so if you go to the Home tab and if you scroll down you'll see that we have a brand new section here called find your mood so before we had two different moods under the station for you it was love and heartbreak right here so those both showed up under stations for you but now we have this whole new section for find your mood with five additional you know moods for stations so we have Focus we have Feelgood we have feeling blue relax and energy and I've noticed that these stations are really good like much better than I expected like I've used Spotify I've used other services that have very similar you know algorithms for making music tailored to your mood but Apple music has knocked it out of the park with this one in my opinion like it's the best find your mood or like tailored for you playlist that they've done yet so give it a try if you are an apple music subscriber I've seen a lot of people say good things about it as well so it's not just me I've discovered dozens of songs already from using these based on my mood so I'm a fan but going back to iOS Performance on iOS 18 & 18.1 18 and 18.1 I did want to talk about the performance and the battery life very quickly as well so I did run a fresh geekbench test here for iOS 18.0 and you can see we scored a 2842 on the single core and a 7048 on the multicore so very similar to the score that we ran last week or the test that we ran last week on August 28th so not a big difference there and performance has been perfectly fine for me on 18 beta 8 and as far as iOS 18.1 goes again nothing has really changed there performance is the same as it was last week it's all right it's not as good as iOS 18 just yet now when it Battery Life on iOS 18 & 18.1 comes to battery life battery life you know I've noticed that iOS 18.1 beta 3 is not as good as I had hoped for so iOS 18 beta 8 nothing has changed at all battery life is still pretty solid not as good as iOS 17 but 18.1 beta 3 this past week I've noticed it is just still pretty much you know barely better than beta 2 it's still a little bit better than beta 2 but it's still not even close to iOS 18.0 battery life so I'm guessing that's all related to Apple intelligence and the fact that it's kind of a forked version of iOS 18 right now with these added Apple intelligence features so hopefully once you know iOS 18.1 gets into the later beta stages we will start to see that battery life improve and if you're having battery issues on iOS 18 or 18.1 let me know in the comments below okay so now let's talk about what The next 2 weeks will be huge to expect next from Apple so the next two weeks are massive weeks for Apple the two biggest weeks of the year so next week is the week of September 9th and on September 9th is when we have the Apple event so it starts at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and after that event is when we will see iOS 18 RC get released so that will be the final version for developers and for public beta testers so we should see that on Monday the 9th and then after that we will see the final release of iOS 18 on Monday September 16th most likely Apple will confirm the official release date for iOS 18 after their event or during the event on Monday so we'll have to wait and see on that now as far as iOS 18.1 I would expect a new beta beta 4 next week as well on the week of the 9th most likely on the 10th it will probably come out on the 9th or the 10th but I would guess the 10th and then we're not going to see the final release for 18.1 until sometime in late October that also could be lined up with when we have the upcoming October Apple events which we'll talk about here in a moment okay Last Minute iPhone 16 Leaks/Details so now let's move on to the latest Apple news and let's start with some last minute iPhone 16 detail and some last minute details on Apple's glow Time Event so we know that the event is on Monday September 9th at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and Again just as a reminder I will be live streaming my reaction to this event here on YouTube on this channel so make sure you check that out I will leave it linked down below make sure you are subscribed so you can chat in the chat room there as well but anyways we got a new detail about the gold color so this came from Mark German he said that the gold color for the iPhone 16 is going to be a standout color and it looks impressive and not terrible like the early renders This is very rare! now what's interesting is that Apple's iPhone 16 silicone cases allegedly do not have a cutout for the new capture button which suggests that either they're not going to get the capture button at all or the gesture based features are going to be limited to just the Pro Models and German also recently mentioned that the capture button is not a certain thing it's not like a for sure thing for the non-pro model so this is very rare to be this close to the iPhone event and even German doesn't know for sure what we're going to get on the base iPhone 16 so it'll be interesting to see what the difference is between the pro and the regular 16 and 16 plus when it comes to that capture button we also saw More NEW iPhone 16 Details that the Pro Models are now expected to get a 2 tbte storage option and also both Pro Models are expected to start at 256 GB not just the pro Max this year and just as a side note Bluetooth 6.0 was also announced this week but that is not expected to come in the 2024 iPhones now German did also give us some more details on the full color lineup so he said while the phones will all look mostly the same as last year apple is shaking up its color palette the Pro Models will now come in a gold titanium to replace blue titanium while the black white and natural options will still be available the non-pro versions will trade in yellow for white and get new shades of green pink and blue now we also heard a report that said said that the 16 Pro Models are rumored to support 4K 120fps video and potentially even 8K video and plus we might finally be able to pause and resume a video recording which would be huge people have been Apple Watch 10 is getting this asking for that forever and then when it comes to the Apple Watch series 10 we're hearing that this could be quote noticeably thinner than the series 9 and also eventually get sleep apnea detection so this is expected to come in this series 10 but it might not be available as soon as the new model launches it could come with a future software update but as far as the AirPods Max 2 & Apple TV airpods max 2 I would not expect those because German is not expecting those so he said that Apple has been working on the updated airpods Max that will come in new colors and switch the lightning connector to USBC but there's still plenty of current airpods Max inventory suggesting that the updates could be coming later and we're also not expecting to see a new Apple TV so Gman also said that Apple has been working on an update to the Apple TV set toop box for as early as this year but no new model has come to fruition and stable inventory of the device suggests a new version is not on the horizon October Apple Event for M4 Macs immediately but just next month we're going to have even more new Apple products because we're now hearing that we're going to have an October event and we're going to see four new Mac models with the M4 chips so German says that the plan is to launch a 14 and 16 in MacBook Pro with the M4 chip a 14 and 16in MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro and M4 Max chip an iMac with M4 and a Mac Mini with M4 and M4 Pro now he said that all of these Macs could come with 16 gigs of RAM as standard which would be a first for apple and while the MacBook Pros and the iMac are just expected to get spec bumps the Mac Mini is expected to receive a redesign and ditch all of the usba a ports for USBC we're also hearing that it's going to have an internal power supply for the first time so now you won't have to carry around a separate brick if you're traveling with your Mac Mini and then in addition to the Mac German also says to expect a new iPad Mini so this is likely just going to be a spec bump to get it you know supported with apple intelligence but we have not seen a new iPad Mini in a while so that will be nice and we just talked about how we're not going to see the airpods max at the September event but we could be seeing new airpods Max at this October event which will be nice I've been waiting for new airpods Max for a while with USBC now we're hearing that there's going to be the event in October but we're not going to see any of the Macs or any of the new products actually get released until November and Crazy AirTags Story then finally just as tradition we have another crazy air tag story so this time we have a story from a fellow YouTuber so a Creator named Benji who makes camera related videos was out on vacation with his family in Scandinavia they were renting bikes to get around town and at one point he had to run back to the apartment because the kids needed to use the restroom and as he was trying to lock the bikes up outside the apartment his camera bag which had about $25,000 worth of gear in it was getting in the way as he was leaning over trying to lock up the bikes so he decided to set it down inside of the bike's cargo section and also ran inside to use the restroom they stayed inside for about 20 minutes and that's all it took for the bag to get stolen but thankfully for him he had one of the most unique air tag setups I've ever seen he placed the air tags inside of the base plate of the cameras and that's genius because nobody's going to suspect that or be able to find it if they were you know stolen and sure enough he was able to track the camera down using the find my app and that led to the bag and the thief so he confronted the thief and the person he was with and recorded the entire confrontation on his meta glasses so he confronted a man who turned out to be homeless and was able to get the best bag back but a camera was missing from that camera bag so Benji told the thief that he had proof it was in the backpack on the guy's back via the air tag that was in the camera he was showing him the find my app and eventually he agreed to give it back for a small Ransom of about $28 man what a crazy story and what a genius use case for air tags I love
