and the whole soccer team was like wait what you're on crutches and I'm like yeah I've messed this up bad they like and you played on it and I was like yeah you bet I did and uh Street crab and the same senior Captain goes like really crutches Corey Peterson welcome back to the podcast not for a 2.0 this is his first time first episode just we ended up just talking chopping up the whole time yesterday and ate up our hour time slot so uh he is the assistant director of at St Thomas spent seven years in Minnesota a year at Stanford in and out of US soccer over the years and he's a great dude I'll get into how we met but thanks for joining us how you doing today and tell me something good that's going on in your life doing good doing good uh you know it's a nice Friday here in Minnesota as far as doing good uh I'm getting wings tonight the favorite Wing Spot it's like the most Diest dive bars a good local spot very local spot it's like a hidden gy It's called Spring Street and it's like the same group of us go like every so often and so it's like a nice little deal um and I had some of the coaches that start their Seasons up Monday for soccer so it's like we got to get this in before your season start so yeah looking forward to the win it's probably honestly it's probably been like three months w three four months as a hadam so it's uh it would be a nice little treat to say the yes a nice homecoming so a good nice Midwest Minnesota guy hopefully the accent comes out a little bit in the episode but so Corey also does some stuff with fit fytt the AMS software and we had zoomed a few times kind of just chatting um demos and stuff but met him live at Louisville there was a conference because Ernie Rymer is one of the the two kind of Founders and it was just Sparks it was just natural you know we just ch chatted the whole evening playing some cornhole and I was like man this is the best part of the field like those people that you could just talk to forever or eat up a podcast time slot and not record anything the the day before definitely wasn't us yesterday oh for sure for sure but you know been in the field a while worked with you know people like Cal de obviously US soccer and um just a a good dude with some cool stories so I'm super excited to to get into it so first fit is an online programming software that helps you train more fork in the road moment so kind of looking back at the beginning is of your career kind of what was that thing that if you had gone left instead of right kind of this would all be very very different yeah um so I I I was pretty fortunate I was at a young age and I wanted to be a strength conditioning coach I mean honestly I really started getting the lifting at like ninth grade um and at the time it was my me my mom my brother in her house and uh I had the master bedroom we first moved in we were pretty young and my brother didn't want to be down or upstairs my mom downstairs and so I had the master bedroom downstairs by myself and I remember uh I'm like you know I really want to get a weightlifting set I mom goes like all right hey if you can raise money for half of it I'll buy the other half for like a Christmas present or whatever what a home I'm only like e8th ninth grade so next thing you know I'm going around trying to find jobs I'm Shoveling driveways cutting grass like do everything I can to get this weight set and I ended up getting the weight set in the room so we l went bed weight set um and so I would be lifting all the time um I had a membership down the road um as well at the health club that I'd go to um and honestly um you know if I ever got in trouble my mom wouldn't really ground me from seeing friends or take my phone can't take the weights go to the gym ohz so even like I would try and go to the health club and like she would already called them ahead of time be like do not let him dead serious was it like a small local place it was a small local place it was very yeah like you know everyone's name right so so I very into it I was always you know I remember stack.com was always like a place to go like oh what's LSU football doing or what's Alabama football workouts and so just it was all about it and I get to college and I'm like yo I just don't want to take science classes don't want to do it so like when I first got when I first went to college my major was business and marketing oh and that's what I did I was like the typical jock like I'm here to play football I don't really care about the school piece I like this but I don't really want to do the science and the bio and the chem what school uh so Augustina University in sou Fall South Dakota and uh so that's how it was when I started I went to my first class as a freshman and I was sitting in like this intro to business class and I just remember sitting there and I'm like oh my gosh this is so boring like this is not intriguing this is nothing and so then I really started seconding guessing myself like are you sure this is what you want to do like go down business marketing yeah it might be a little bit easier uh because you don't have to take lab and all that stuff and I'm like you know what okay fine I'll stick out like one more class and I go to the next class that same first week and I'm like nope can't do this I'm out I'm out I'm out and I went to my advisor and said I need the switch uh can I switch classes right now is it too late um and they're like no we can switch you um I'm like okay cool like tomorrow like I want to start tomorrow um and so then I quickly switch to like Kinesiology actually science um game over and I'm just thinking like man like if I would have went down that road I mean my life would have been totally different um totally different um so I would say that was like the first thing when you get to College you're like oh I'm going to take this path and then you quickly realize like okay I can't just do that just to do that um and I suck it up for the four years of you know oam and bio but that would have been that was like the first like decision that I had when it came to like am I going to get in this field am I not going to get in this field going back to the weights is it because like what do you think it was about lifting and training cuz like for me I guess I liked it but I I wasn't the most uh genetically gifted individual you know I kind of had to work for everything that I had you know it's it's kind of like the All-Star players don't make the best coaches because it's like how do how do you hit a curveball and it's like I don't know just see it and hit it you know see hit it just do it so what do you think it was about training at that age that that you kind of gravitated towards dud I honestly I don't know um if I'm being honest with you probably the fact I'm like oh man this make me look good hey I'm being honest I think that's how it how it probably started um you know especially as you kind of getting that eighth nth grade rage right you're going through that puberty you're hitting all the testosterone right but honestly I think I loved it because I probably felt like okay well I'm feeling better on the court or I'm feeling better on the field um and you know you always have like the football coach preaching like hey you need to get in the weight room need to get in the weight room um and I guess I just fell in love with training um where it'd be like hey training twice a day or I'll wake up really and train before we go train at the high school just to you know do two workouts um but I think honestly it was like the way that I felt like if I don't do this I'm not like kind of you said I'm not genetically gifted enough to just show up and play um or I'm not gonna get what I want um and so I think that's probably where it started um and then my best friend at the time too um he was all about it too so it even made it easier so me and him we would train together we would talk about training um you know we would prioritize training over other things um and so that also made it easy and help right like if you have a buddy doing it with you or just as involved or interested it it definitely makes it easier um but yeah it just kind of stayed on man and uh shout out to your mom for two reasons uh number one that's dedication lugging those Waits up and down the stairs to ground you you know oh yeah um but second to to to put that on the table for you at at a young age being a a hustler so I guess it all comes full circle U but your boy might have sold the most popcorn once or twice in my day way back when uh third place once you know I got I got three trophies and and I think just to have something like super simple but it's it's kind of like sports like put more in get more out so like what do you remember about kind of that process and journey of like grinding keeping track of the money looking for different jobs and like when you realized that you'd hit enough kind of what was that like I was like I hope my mom doesn't back out uh because I don't know if she thought that I was gonna do it um but honestly it was just like that satisfaction where it's like I'm a big fan of we kind of talk with those short-term goals like I'm I need to hit this money amount I'm going to do everything I can to hit that money amount um whether it be talking to strangers whether it be you know finding anything just to raise anything you know not too many places are they going to take a 13 14 year old um and so you just got to be creative and a lot of it literally came down to mowing people's grasses so Lally walking down the neighborhood with your lawn mower um or like shoveling driveways in the winter because not everyone's going to want to do that right in Minnesota so that piece but honestly it was just like the satisfaction and then like literally like getting it at Christmas was you know pretty surreal to say the least very surreal and I had a nice little stereo system down downstairs too yeah that was awesome just be bumping absolutely be bumping I only made the mistake one time where uh I had the music playing pretty loud my door shut and I was benching uh oh and I was like feeling pretty good right you get that c like oh I can go up and I remember like it's sitting down on my chest I just get stapled and I'm like oh crap I'm like trying to yell but like the music is so loud yeah and I'm like oh my goodness and so like I'm trying to like get it off trying to roll it down and then literally I try to roll it down but it kind of slipped so like I put a little hole in the wall um you know but you live and you learn sure my mom was more about okay I'm just glad you're safe oh of course dude don't do that again yeah um and then okay now let's talk about the the hole in the wall and then three let's get you a little stronger come on yeah get a little bit stronger and not as strong as you think you are so what how how heavy was too heavy back then uh if I'm being honest it was like either like5 or 205 oh it's not B for the high school yeah I think like that point it was probably like around sophomore year yeah so it wasn't terrible yeah wasn't terrible um your mom's like watch this just right okay Mom can you spot me she' be like no but I did have a brother and so um but yeah no was it was it was pretty funny um thankfully she wasn't too too mad I guess well I mean she kind of knew what she was signing up for getting you a weight set in the bedroom well at the end of the day too like my so I didn't really have a video game system growing up I don't really play video games my parents never really wanted me to play video games it was more so get outside go down the street to your friend's house knock in the door and be like hey can you play today or like another houses and those were the days and so like that's what you're doing and so it was always like that tradeoff like okay do I get them this that'll be actually it's beneficial or do I want him sit in front of a TV screen yeah video games is spending a lot of money on a system and spending you know what is it like 60 bucks per game oh yeah you gota get you gotta get the new game every year um and so I didn't really play video games I never got into it still haven't gotten into it don't own a system don't plan on owning a system anytime soon so I think that was kind of like the the other tradeoff looking back on it was like okay well I'd rather have you do this weight set and some and some new drywall that's all it takes yeah 100% you know it wasn't it wasn't a crazy big hole but it was a little hole awesome awesome so that is the the beginning so now kind of middle is isofit is not just pioneering Force matching technology they're reshaping the boundaries of Functional Health and Human Performance discover the future of Health Fitness and sports performance at isofit docomo pit.com and tell them that Matt toad sent you what is the coolest kind of craziest story because obviously coaching is a very unique field and it could be relative to travel coaching itself whatever kind of uh the one story you couldn't make up if if you were to like pull a story out of your back pocket at a bar when someone's like oh what's it like being a a strength coach uh I remember earlier I don't know if this is cool or crazy I don't really know but it's it's a funny story uh we were playing trash ball with woman soccer and we're playing so trash ball is like uh almost like Ultimate Frisbee you you have trash cans as your goals and then basically you have you can have a football or a ball and basically you can take like one or two steps with it and then you're basically passing it back and forth and then you're trying to score in the trash can obviously without either the ball getting stolen ball getting H your hands um there's a circle around the trash can so you can't step in the circle you have to score outside the circle same thing with defense but we're playing up at The Concourse um at maruchi so at Minnesota and so it's a little tight but um it's on a Friday and uh we're playing and I was playing and another intern was playing and I remember I went up I mean my competitive juices are still gone right like I still want to compete and win and so I remember I go up grab the ball as I like come down just land on this girl's foot and my ankle just go like right and I'm like oh boy and I'm there like I remember I tried to like you know limp it off and I'm saying off to the side was she okay screw your ankle well yeah she was totally fine I didn't care about I was just glad it was me like she was tot fine to fine I only care about me like I please don't you're fine okay cool I can be okay yeah yeah I remember like the senior Captain uh goes like are you really setting out right now like you're going to let that little thing sit you out wow I'm like are you serious right now and she goes like yeah are you soft I didn't think you were soft and I'm I'm like okay all right like let's go like I can eat that up and so sure enough kept playing and uh got playing on it the adrenaline's really kicking at this point um and so we're playing playing I don't even remember who ends up winning all I remember is like all my ankle going to be killing tomorrow and uh that night though I was still helping out volleyball and volleyball had an Elite 8 game I remember playing like North Carolina and so after like this afternoon later afternoon session I literally had to walk over to volleyball and I remember my ank was like oh man this is already starting to blow up and I'm like you know kind of limping over the volleyball and sit through that whole match and I'm like oh my gosh I have to walk to my car now and it probably took me normally it's like maybe like a 10minute walk to walk to my car it probably took me like 45 to an hour to walk to my car cuz that's how slow I was walking jeez have just hopped I was I just trying to but it's like kind of winter it's November it's like not that easy to like just hop you got other ice you're like okay this be a very bad scenario and I get get to my car get home well the next morning I had to wake up because I had a I think we had like hockey or something but volleball was playing again and I'm like holy cow I can't put any pressure on this foot like anything at all so I remember hopping down the stairs to my garage get in the car drive Park call the other assistant JD JD millhorn at the time and I'm like JD dude like I need you to pick me up at my car and drop me off at the r like I can't walk um and it's winter like I kind of talked about so he has to come pick me up at the car drive me up to the front door of maruchi I hop in I coach the whole session sitting down in a chair wow um and at happens to be there and they're like oh yeah we'll get you a boot they give me the boot I can't walk in the boot like it was that it was that painful to walk in the boot and I'm like oh my gosh and so like I call my boss like hey I think I had to go to go to the you know the ER like I was just work is this work comp like what is this oh obviously workman's comp you know show what's up yeah I'm trading so yeah I had to go to they got me set up with appointment so I had to go to the ER get scans done it was my fibula and uh so pretty bad high ankle Spring right and they're like yep you got to be in crutches you got to you know do this I'm like okay so I show back up Monday and the whole soccer team was like wait what you're on crutches and I'm like you I've messed this up bad I'm like and you played on it and I was like yeah you bet I did and uh Street crab and the same senior Captain goes like really crutches you need crutches like same thing just get underneath my skin I said you know what nope crutches go off like okay I'm just being a [ __ ] at this point um honestly that's the first time uh and we we started sampling around with don't ice that ankle sprain and so there was some people on the football staff at the time it was like Shay Dustin and those guys on the football staff and they've been doing a little bit of this with the football players I'm like oh it's perfect time for me to do this and so I got me some of the voodoo bands distraction stuff and I'm just hammering this out don't I angle spr did not iate my ankle once didn't take any Advil nothing just cranking out distraction all the movement all this stuff and part of like this protocol um and I'm like oh my gosh like this is a game changer as far as like movement XY and z and next thing you know him I was like oh man I'm like back um but I was literally doing stuff at home I'm doing this stuff like six times a day um just playing around experimenting uh doing all that stuff and then I remember like I was talking to my athletic trainer I'm like yo we should probably look into this if anyone on the field gets like a little tweak or whatever like this could be pretty big game change and then honestly it kind of turned into like a staple um when anyone kind of did anything it was always like you know they would do some of the stuff with ath like trainer and then we would finish off with like all the voodoo distraction stuff and um it honestly made a big difference um but yeah that's I don't know that's kind of like a cool crazy story that led to a lot of different things um but I think like if anyone has worked with me or been an intern or whatever uh how I do things you're always going to hop in so you're always going to hop in and compete with them if you have an odd number it's like you're screwed you're going to be playing that day um or I'll hop in and play um so at the end day reminder like you're there for the athlet so like you got to suck it up and realize like okay I'll be sore but whatever I need to make sure the athlete still gets a good training experience um so that was one piece and I would say the second this would be more cool but I was very young when I was at Stanford and when I got there chrisen mcaffry was coming off as Heisman year and so I got to see Chris mcaffry throughout the off season uh with football yeah yeah and it's just a whole different level of seeing seeing him operate like and so you got to see like how disciplined he was and how he was a leader and how like he's running everybody through everything or he's holding everybody accountable and honestly it was just pretty cool like that was my first like true exposure to like one someone of his stature but two uh he was actually just a unbelievable person unbelievable teammate um and just how he worked it was actually unbelievable where it's like man like how do you not like this guy like all he does is Lally put more work in than anybody else and he leads people or he do it it was that was probably a pretty cool experience to see someone with his statue um and then obviously you've seen this like the success he's having in the NFL and it's like yeah I'm not surprised like I'm not surprised one bit um after seeing how he conduct his his life on a daily basis I feel like with those athletes where's where's that line and I would assume that there's some pretty legit athletes that have come through Minnesota as well yeah um in a variety of sports but where's that line I don't think I've gotten to anyone that legit but I guess Charles Tillman Peanut Tillman my boss used to train him Y and I never uh had to work with him but you know I was just like around and it's like you got to treat them like humans too but it's also like he's Christian mcaffrey Heisman guy like you know so where's that line in your opinion when it gets time to working with an athlete of that stature of like you do treat them like everyone else but it's like you got to have some feeling you're human that like they're a little different you know does that kind of make sense I think it's honestly like in my in my experience I think they're not treated like a normal human outside of you know the weight room right everyone wants their attention everyone wants their autograph everybody wants you know this right and it's not like that authentic relationship where what I've seen is just like if you just treat them and you don't even bring up like yeah how good they are on the field or on the court or whatever and just have a conversation that usually goes pretty far because they don't always have all of that um you know whether they're sitting there signing autographs or I mean all you name it right they're they're a hot commodity um so if you just kind of can treat him like normal people and not be like holy cow this is you know a celebrity yeah um you know it's it's much better it'd be no different like I remember at Minnesota like I did not work with him but we shared a weight room but Scott uh MC Williams did work with G Stevenson and so when you have gab Walker on the weight room it was always I remember the weight room in Minnesota has the racks and then up top was like the windows where people can walk through so it's kind of like a fishbowl oh and every time like gab was in there you know everyone's just up top like oh my gosh there Gable like that's Gable down there and it's like Gable's just a normal person like you just go up dab up what's up man and then you you walk away and like you kind of again I did not work with him but you got to see him and it's just like dude he's just a normal person that wants to you know BS with Scott yeah you know he just wants to have fun with Scott like yeah and they have an unbelievable relationship ship um but it's also because Scott's not like you know like yeah right it's like no man this is just a normal other day thing how I train you is GNA have to be different because you're that unbelievable of an athlete and you're a genetic freak but how I treat you and talk to you is not going to change yeah um so that's kind of that's kind of been the piece I do remember there was like one time an athlete we had like an intern and an athlete was like to the intern like do you know who I am and then turn was like no but I'm here to hold the band for you and I there like this is amazing this is amazing like this person Lally he he's not here to work with you guys he was here to learn under this person right so it's like no man I'm just ch to hold the band dude I'm here to learn and get better as a professional uh and so it was pretty it was pretty awesome to say the least yeah yeah no I mean I I guess that makes uh total sense that the the one story I have about meeting someone kind of famous I guess was uh Jaylen Brunson is from the Chicago area and I I went on like a a blind date like one of my friends boyfriends friends just needed a date to the dance and I was like oh cool I come hang out and uh and my date knew Jaylen so he came up and then I like shook his hand and it was my height is I'm like six feet and uh and he walked away and she goes do you know who that was and I was like no and she was like that's jayen Brunson I was like so like he just dropped 51 in the state tournament and I was like all right good for him like he's going to Villanova and I was like oh okay nice and then fast forward like 10 months I'm watching on TV win it all at Villanova I was like oh that's that's jayen Brunson and now you're watching the league right now yeah 300 million his his contract you know how however big it was but yeah I'm sure like like their guard is always up so finally just to chat with someone who's just like they don't have to you know 100% I'm sure refreshing I think like uh I worked I had the privilege of working with a pretty pretty awesome swimmer too I think it was like a seven time NCAA champ but honestly we never talked swimming we talked honestly we talked Vikings vers Packers or we talked like music and it was just very it was just very different like we went it would just be like he just wants to talk and then can we create that Rel relationship and just talk about everything not around swimming or talk about jobs or hey what do you want to do after swimming or you know all of those pieces and that's still someone that you stay in touch with now right because you build like that more true authentic yeah relationship which is I think that's like the separator yeah personally yeah know it makes makes sense to me so very very cool so next kind of more present is yeah but kind of what is uh what is that story full circle that maybe took a little bit of time to kind of all come around or you needed some time to realize why it happened or um whether an athlete comes back you know three four years later just anything that basically took some time that you're you're super proud of kind of looking back yeah I mean I think uh there's one moment that I think kind of like changed a lot for me and like my perspective in the field and I remember it was uh 2018 2017 um around there and I remember like I was a young strength coach at the time and I was working for Cal and I'm doing you know doing rpr we're doing the triphasic things and honestly my ego was so freaking High I'm like um I'm the freaking man uh I know exactly what I'm doing I went through like a whole soccer season with zero soft tissue anything No One Missed time I'm like oh this this this is easy this isn't the bag and uh you know because I think I actually had this conversation other day like when you're young you think you know it all you're like oh I know this and then more you're in the field you're like I don't know anything I absolutely know absolutely nothing but what happened was I remember we went to Italy in the spring and I remember I always like talking to the coaches like hey like we just got to be smart with the travel the jet leg all this stuff and first game I already didn't feel good about it right like the lights aren't really working we're in traffic a while all this stuff and I'm like I just don't feel good well our senior Captain tears the ACL H I'm sitting there I'm like oh my gosh and I'm just like heartbroken she's heartbroken her family's there it's like and this is how we start the trip and I'm like oh my gosh and this was like my first time actually you know being the lead with athletic training and Medical on an ACL rehab I've been around it but you're I was never the one making decision are going down this doing the testing I'm like oh my goodness and uh that's honestly when I um you know change perspective on training was obviously like Eric Hernandez down at UNCC um he got me really connected with Bill nolles yeah and that was just like a freaking eye opening experience one because you're like I don't know anything MH and it was exactly what I needed to be like okay dude bring your ego down to the floor um and then three give you a whole different perspective on training and so it's like okay whether it be like okay let's let's think about tumbling or let's think about you know compa or let's think about doing stuff in the sand or doing stuff here trampoline all those different things and uh that led me down a whole another path of you know the nervous system and the vestibular system and how important the brain is um when it comes to scanning and all those things and uh the kid though um was unbelievable she's like I will do whatever it takes to get back and this is like in end of March the seon starts in August I'm like okay here we go so like me athle turn like all right like let's go um this kid was absolutely unbelievable like the amount of work she did when she came in coming in like twice a day doing whatever it freaking took to get her back and um we get to uh I think it was like September and at five and a half months uh I was sitting there and like I this is when I really started filming everything and it made the the conversations with the doctor easier because the doctor be like hey look at what she's doing here's our here's where she was before the injury here here She is after the injury and I kid you not at five and a half months like she was faster she was jumping higher she was Stronger like every Force but you name it and um the doc we remember we sat down like the parents are in the room and stuff they're like okay are you playing after like do you want to play soccer after she's like no I want just this year right now okay are you aware of the risk yes I'm aware of the risk parents are you aware of the risk yes I'm aware of the risk okay fine like I'll sign off to let you play and I remember like the first moment in the game like I she's not going to go and play 90 yeah but it's like hey she got her 30 minutes 15 and a half 10 15 and a half and it was like oh this is just freaking awesome right like you think of like all the time you spent in like that those five and a half months so you're with each other all the time right like in August oh she would we would literally travel her with on the roads and I could literally work with her on the road um like just incredibly dedicated kid comes back takes like three four games to get her back in then it's 90s all the way out to the whole season and you're sitting there like this is just unbelievable like one it's all the kid it's all a kid and that year we won the Big 10 Championship it was the whole thing was just pretty surreal with her the athlete um but then you fast forward it's like you built that connection you built that relationship and then being able to go to her wedding like back in it was like I don't know how many years after it was after graduation but it's just like that's why you do it it's like the relationship piece um to help them Reach their goals and so like for me that was just a big pivotal moment in a lot of things and how I approached things and how I looked at things differently and there's so many people that I could think along the road I mean you know Nate Wells done at Louisville or uh Camano at Butler Patrick Peterson um Kirsten Schwan she's actually at uh medical school at Harvard right now um yeah unbelievable so I mean there's just so many people that I could think that helped along the way um but yeah that was like a big moment that kind of really changed my perspective on a lot of things um and then you just kind of s going down that rabbit hole but proud moment was like seeing and her accomplish what she wanted to accomplish and it was literally her doing the work right like she was the one that made the time to do it she was the one that wanted to do everything she possibly could to play her senior year so that was probably a pretty proud moment then you fast forward you know you have more people that go through injuries and it's like yeah you do everything you can to get the back on the field and you get back on the field like that was so worth it watch like the extra time that you're going to put in the extra time that you're going to give just so they get back to playing the sport so I think that's my whole perspective I think sometimes like people are like I'm like no they came here to play the sport they come here to lift what can we do to get him back on this like on the field um or the court whatever sport they're playing but that's probably the proud those are like for me I like those honestly more than championships championships are fun it's like a team Collective thing but I also think because I had to deal with my own injuries as myself as an athlete and always have the greatest experience or as a coach how can you yeah uh or as a coach uh how can you provide a good experience for them to get back on the field um and then that's that's like a different type of proud moment than winning a championship if that makes sense yeah yeah yeah don't get me wrong championships are awesome yeah like I love to win love to win but it's a different type of feeling and emotion when you help someone get back after like a significant injury um because only you your like you the person the at maybe one other person actually knows like what they did yeah and honestly I started uh I filmed everything and so like everything and then when I was done when they when they had when they got cleared it was uh uh I created a video it's called like the journey and it would be like a 30 minute video of me like of everything cut up mashed up video they put their favorite songs in like everything but they had no idea they knew that like okay after the first ACL they're like okay this is what Cory's going to do and but the thing that was the best was then the parents then realized the amount of work that they actually did or the family or the siblings or whatever they didn't realize like holy cow like you did that and honestly the parents for this that first one I was telling you about they then felt more confident with her playing because then they saw like holy C you've done this oh yeah we're not as concerned about you going on that field because we you look at how much you've done done um and honestly that was like same thing you do it for them I didn't do it for me the video like it was cool but I don't go back and watch them yeah I'll still get a text like hey I just watched the video I was feeling down awesome gez so no no way to top that yeah so it's a little different but yeah that's kind of where it started with the videos and um yeah man money money I feel like uh that that could be a whole episode how to get something back from ACL in five and a half months well I mean people sit there and I'm like you know unfortunately like I've I've worked with other ACL kids and each one's different yeah right like you know you could everyone always at the time everyone always wanted to compare like well Adrien Peterson like yeah Adrian Adrien Peterson was like a Lamborghini yeah and else that's like a Ford Taurus and it's like okay well what that four Taurus needs is very different than what o Lamor needs um and each person has their own timelines and each person is going to progress differently um and I think that's just kind of where it comes down to the coach the athlete the medical staff of all right well what can they handle and what where can we continue to you know push them in certain areas um but yeah that's like the fun stuff man like the rehab stuff that's like the fun stuff especially like the end stage yeah return to play the the longer I've been coaching I think is the most interesting but Al the most rewarding obviously for those reasons but it's it's like a puzzle every case is different you know and then like it's one thing for kid to walk in and be like oh I want to I want to hit a 95 on my fight 10 you know versus like when they come in at like a 1.1 and then something happens whether it's a hammy or just whatever and then they just get to like a 109 and you're like oh yeah this is you know it's pretty awesome yeah like it's pretty awesome especially when they uh they set their goals and whatnot and you know and I mean go on top of that I'm a big fan of like setting goals for the athletes like what are the things you want to hit then what are the process steps that you're going to do to get that um and so they feel I have usually have my athletes feel a whole sheet it's like here's my outcome goals here's my prosess steps I'm going to get to those other mini goals that will help me get to outcome goal um and then if they put on paper then I'm going to hold them accountable to it yeah a lot of times it's like hey resending your goal sheet or they they have it on their where wherever and it's like okay where you at from re-evaluating yourself how's your discipline been or do we need to changeing thing why have you not gotone the things that you said you were going to do um and so that you actually have to think inside and reflect yeah um and they can be pretty uncomfortable uh when that's the case is I many people that want to be told like oh you didn't why aren't you doing that or you said you were going to do this but you're not um but again it's like you're helping that person understand like it's it's about the personal development and like you might not like this right now but in life like it's gonna be an important step um I think for a lot of things and just to have those those clear expectations and the the in my all my old age and wisdom I think everything comes down of like expectations you know um and then just putting it out there because it's it's one thing to say oh I want to be back by August but it's like no no no do do you understand what it takes to get back by August get back by August not just saying you know um no so super super cool um so those are kind of all all my questions I have for you very cool U definitely done a a lot of stuff so I guess 712 has it been 10 years in coaching yet pretty close I think I don't know I honestly just lose track I feel like I mean honest like I just feel like every year just goes by faster and faster um which I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing um but yeah it's getting there crazy some some super cool stuff uh a variety of of experiences and if someone wants to tune in learn more learn more hit you up I'd uh I'm I'm rolling out the red carpet for you to shamelessly plug whatever you have to plug where can the uh the listeners get more of Coach Corey yeah I mean probably the best way is probably through Instagram uh and that's just Cory Peterson 44 um but I finally start it wasn't until like a year ago I started posting never posted anything maybe my dog once a year uh or something you know what I mean like barely ever posted I never really got into that game um but now it's it's it's been you know a coach like hey like you should post and it was like a past inter like dude man like you need to do this I'm like okay and then I kind of got some of it from the coaches at St Thomas and I'm like okay I like I'll post and then it became more so like how can we post on social media to gain traction hopefully get better interns or and plus in today's age athletes love it oh my go they love you know dishing crap comments they love you know everything and so they eat it up and so um it's been more so like okayy how can you stay consistent with putting content out um and uh be present there then honestly like if people want to talk or whatever then obviously like we can just do it via the phone or text or whatever because I'm a big fan of trying to create those relationships with other coaches um because honestly that's what it's all about money money and I will that here before I get going on my whole social media rant that I I feel very passionate about but anyways so thank you very much for your time sir your openness your stories and kind of all that stuff and uh we will be talking soon I look forward to it awesome boss thanks again Matt for having me and uh we'll definitely be in touch
