hey folks welcome back to the Husker big red YouTube channel I'm Chris Peterson and joining me as always is Danny Gillette and we're back here for another another episode here on Thursday morning and uh we got a big Nebraska basketball game tonight a bunch of recruiting information to talk about some roster updates uh before we get to all that please make sure you hit the Subscribe button so you don't miss any of our future content and uh Danny how you doing this morning man good big bouncy ball game tonight some recruiting stuff uh 1 of February can't believe January's over so uh let's hope the changing of the calendar means a changing of the fortune for the men's basketball program with a big test against Wisconsin tonight and uh sixth in the country or number six sixth in the country yeah the sixth ranked Wisconsin Badger coming in man the uh you know one of the leaders in the Big 10 they they play uh Purdue actually this weekend in a top 10 matchup so maybe they'll be uh you know looking ahead a little bit to that game and uh you know Nebraska it's I mean if you looked at the last game you would think there's any chance in hell they would win this game but they have been a different team at home this year so you never know um hopefully they can find a way tonight but uh before we'll get to that let's talk some roster updates with Nebraska football um and we'll get to some recruiting we'll save the basketball for the end of the show um because we know most of our fans are uh football fans first and that's we know what Butters the bread we know what Butters the bread it's okay but there was some kind of some interesting stuff this week the Nebraska football program updated their roster um a few guys you know not that were on there before U probably the biggest names to me Kane Williams um safety linebacker type um hasn't really played a ton but um a guy that's you know seen some snaps in his day and then Ethan Piper is the other big name um starting offensive lineman you know missed the last couple of games last year due to injury most people assumed that he would be back but according to Amy just he's still he hasn't made a decision he's still weighing those options but that injury was a pretty brutal injury and so I think that that recovery is maybe not gone as well maybe that's you know part of the issue but it does make sense now why um the Huskers added you know Micah mzuka a couple weeks ago we were wondering about that and um you know that makes that move or brings more clarity to that move now yeah and you know like we've said before the step always has a plan it seems for whatever situation comes about and adding Micah mizuka you were wondering at the time you know where would he fit necessarily and now we get a little bit more clarity there um hopefully I would like Piper to come back I thought he played you know really well when he did play last season and he would just bring experience to the line um and um you know I hope that I hope I hope he you know works out whatever he decides to do and I know his injury was absolutely brutal so hopefully um hopefully he just makes the right decision for himself and you know takes time to weigh his options which I think he's doing yeah it can be tough if you've you know got an injury to come back from when we saw you know Nick Heinrich um you know he retired from medically retired you know for his career after that ACL injury he suffered against Wisconsin so you know yeah I can't blame anybody if they don't want to go through it but if he can you know is physically able to play I do think that he would obviously be a nice depth piece at least for Nebraska probably would start I mean it depends how how much that injury has affected his movement or whatever but even if he's not ready to play right away and frankly even if he doesn't play a lot on the field I think that Ethan Piper would be valuable to this team even if he didn't play a snap next year just because of the leadership abilities and what he could bring to the offensive line room um but you know does he want to do that you know in the coaching staff do they want to put him through that I mean it's playing football is not easy it's not for the weak at heart it's very difficult it takes a lot of time and if you're not 100% invested in it then yeah you should walk away so um you know I'm glad that they're at least giving Ethan the chance to you know make his own decision he deserves that time and if he doesn't want to play I feel like he'll be right there competing for a starting job but like I said just his leadership you know qualities alone will make Nebraska a better team for having him around yeah because we have a lot of young linemen coming up bricks tamua um you know those those guys just off the top of my head that I was just thinking about now I mean he his voice could be very valuable in the room itself so even if he doesn't play he could serve as a mentor and a teacher and you know kind of a peer leader to the younger lineman and you know I think that's that's very valuable on team as well because you know sometimes you can get a different perspective from a fellow teammate than you can a coach and you know it's it's really important that sometimes players can have other people to kind of ask questions with besides you know the coaching staff um one you know mentioning the offensive line it's uh should be mentioned I guess that uh rayquan Buckley the former um defensive lineman recruit out of Michigan has switched over to the offensive side of the ball um I think that's the only real position switch that's notable I don't remember any others I I I would agree yeah I thought that was kind of I mean because he did play some last year it's not like he didn't play at all um so yeah I thought that that was a little interesting that he moved over there but 65 uh 295 um you know he hasn't played he played eight games last year um didn't play as a freshman um in 2020 or red shired in 2022 played one game in 2021 so hasn't played a ton um it'll be interesting to see how that works out but I mean he's a he's a big athletic kid I'm assuming I mean I don't know maybe they could he's 65 so I'm not sure if they would try to make him a tackle or a guard doesn't really you know they just list him as offensive line but I would think guard it seems a big stretch to kind of put somebody out at tackle you know but you never know maybe they see something in him I think he's a really good athlete overall and I remember watching his high school highlights and his athleticism was very evident so I'm hoping that trans translates to the offensive line and you know I think um Donovan rayola will will be able to teach him well and um you know it's just more depth for the line and as we figured out last year you can never have too much depth for that positional unit and so I'm curious to see what he does here and I'm hoping he does really well because I think he I think he definitely can I don't think this is a uh shot in the- darkk type of move I think he can serve well on the line in whatever capacity that may be and another guy I guess it should be Jason um and I'm totally gonna butcher this name I apologize Jason M yeah Jason M the uh the big guy from uh South Dakota he's also listed there was some question whether he was going to be an o line or dline He's listed as an offensive lineman um on here the redri Freshman 6'2 320 pounds so um that's another guy just seems like he's um yeah I guess he switched last year to offensive line and he's kind of stuck with that so I should say he switched there but um that was just another name that you know he he always seemed like a guy that could switch either one offense and defensive line but um at any rate those are the roster updates and um you know for the people that have really worried about the scholarship stuff I mean that's at least you know a few names that we can cut off that list a lot of guys that kind of came off were Walk-Ons and stuff but trimming a little bit of the the fat there so to speak to try to get down to 85 um now a lot of recruiting stuff going on this week this is kind of the last week before another recruiting Dead period because we've got signing day coming up not that even though it's a dead period teams are still you know I think you can still text message so you know even during dead periods there's still some communication you can make but um to start I guess in the we'll start with the 2024 class and Kiana will height the uh Edge 6 fo5 240 out of Arizona uh he visited Nebraska Tony white went out there um as of this week he's been projected to UCLA with some crystal balls Steve Wilfong and you know some of the West Coast guys out there um so that trend has been happening but Matt rule is supposed to visit him on Friday so maybe he can turn that around um I know there was some rumors about Chip Kelly possibly going to the Seahawks that now is is that's done now that Mike McDonald has been the named as the head coach there so I don't know if that has something to do with it UCLA obviously California closer to Arizona so maybe that you know plays a part and add did another thing I thought about too I'm not sure if this is a deal where Nebraska you know is trying to do the thing with like they did with you know Xavier rigoli where they're trying to you know offer some more nil money or something as opposed to scholarship I'm not really sure on that front but UCLA does appear to be the leader right now but that rule does have a chance toh flip it before signing day so we'll see what happens and it makes the commitment of Jordan Ooa a little bit more I'm I'm not going to say more meaningful but it's definitely good that we got the Ooa commitment in case we don't land will height because you know we do need more depth at the defensive end spot and you know I think um West Coast guy crystal ball the UCLA makes sense I mean West Coast it's hard to get the guys from the West Coast at times and so I think when you look back at these moves uh o Cha's commitment last month kind of looms large here in in the sense that we don't have to scramble for more Edge help um one thing you know if you look you know choa ranked about 2,000th where will height I think is five or in the five or 600 so um not that rankings mean everything but there is you know he was signed with Washington um so this will height has been you know a pretty you know highly sought after recruit on the west coast I mean I think that's that's fair to say you know Arizona Michigan State Oregon State bunch of teams in on him so it would be I feel like he would have a better chance to play right away you know if he signed but we'll see what happens Matt rule has uh you know he's turned some recruitments around before I mean we can all remember when Malachi Coleman got the crystal ball to Colorado and then he met with Matt Rule and and that changed so maybe Matt rule can pull off you know another one here you never know I wouldn't I would wouldn't count count him out but it seems like yeah maybe there's some um you know Regional Regional pull there or something like that for uh for will height so and UCLA did just lose their defensive coordinator to USC so that's another kind of curious thing where Nebraska you know has all that coming back but like we said it is hard to get those West Coast kids sometimes and Nebraska has only been on this recruitment for about a month or so it's not like they have you know been recruiting this guy for six months or anything like that so and he's only visited Nebraska once usually you know guys that commit you wanted to get you wanted to get to Lincoln more than one time so those are just a few of the things working against Nebraska there might be a shot in the dark uh for Nebraska here but I mean they are making some Headway in future classes uh 2025 class I believe they went out on let's see Tuesday to see wide receiver Corey Sims and tight end tight end reman zebert so they are making some Headway I think there yeah and uh zebert um as an instate kid is going to be a worthwhile guy I think to know um as this state it just seems like man they just are constantly you know turning out big time you know tight ends with Chase Lofton in this class very athletic zeer is for a tight end like he he can jump really really high and he can also he also runs his routes really really well and so he's kind of ranked low right now um but his recruitment is going to pick up I mean I was just watching some of his highlights the other day and he he definitely has potential to be a really really good player so it's good that Nebraska is doing their homework there yeah 66 225 um out of Springfield Nebraska and you look at some of the other offers um you mentioned it but Oklahoma state has offered Arkansas's offered um Miami's offered so it's you know the secret is definitely getting out about this kid um so it's good that yeah Nebraska he's visited Nebraska three times visited Iowa State Minnesota Kansas State so I mean he's made the rounds with the with the Midwest schools but definitely somebody that I would expect Nebraska to try to get um on campus for the spring game this fall that's you know they love to get all those guys there especially the Insight instate guys so um keep an eye on him for sure and I think the secrets getting out about the state of Nebraska and all these classes as well I mean there's a lot of talent in the state right now and it's good for the state to get this much attention it's it does make it harder to keep local kids home but we've done a good job with the 2025 class and you know I think um this staff is going to continue to make a concerted effort to do so yeah one interesting note on that um that Johan Callahan pointed out um in his article today is that Millard uh South has had 17 different Power five programs visit their school in January so that you know Chase Lofton and Chris you of those guys so I mean there is a lot of talent in the state Matt rule has done a great job of you know putting the fence around Nebraska so far we'll see if he can keep doing it but I mean Malachi Coleman um he was able to do that with Carter Nelson you know a lot of those you know Isaiah McMorris um daon Hall all the big the big the highly ranked guys they've been able to get so we'll see if that continues um but I thought another big news um you know in the recruiting cha this week the new recruiting or the new quarterback offer Dylan Duff I think this is one that fans should pay attention to in the 2025 class especially um man Alex manky has been kind of the the top Target he's been training to Iowa State they they've tried to get him on campus a couple of times in January hasn't happened so I feel like they're I know they offered another quarterback I'm blanking on his name but um it doesn't seem like that really you know they really mov the needle with him uh and Dylan Duff 63 185 he's out of St Louis um he's a three star according to 247 sports right now that's the only service that's got him ranked but uh Duke Missouri Indiana are some of the teams that have offered him UCF uh yeah Kansas state Missouri um let's see who else Minnesota Clemson has shown some interest so I mean he's got quite a few so he's got eight power five offers right now um so I mean that that tells you you know he's a legit Prospect and um I think he's probably going to end up in that three star range but this is exactly the kind of guy that I think you need to Target um you know in this class Alex mansy seems like he's going to be a tough one to get I know they offered another for zers that four-star quarterback Matt zers yeah Matt zers and I mean that's possible it just seems like that's going to be an uphill climb as well um especially for somebody ranked as high as he is so I think that this is a an offer to pay attention to and this is a quarterback Nebraska could realistically land in their 2025 class Dylan Duff yeah and you talk about the secret of the state of Nebraska not being a secret anymore the secret you know the state of Missouri is also producing some pretty good talent and you know Duff would be another another option for Nebraska at the quarterback position I mean I was just looking at some of his stuff actually yesterday and you know he's very he's very good in the pocket he can sense pressure really well he can run a little bit but running is not his main Forte um you know he he has a strong arm he makes his reads quickly um and he can get the ball down the field in a hurry and it's interesting because I thought the his placement on his throws was very good as well so he he does look like a very solid player um and you know we talk about settling for recruits I don't think this would be a settle at all if you're talking about you know a guy like mansky or Dylan Duff I think Duff is just as every bit as good as manky is yeah I definitely think they're in that same you know conversation and uh it just would be a good you know they need to get a a quarterback in this CL a firm believer you need to get a quarterback in every class and uh so it would be nice for them to get Dylan Duff they you know seem to have lost a little bit of momentum with manky so um that's you know that's where it goes I like that they moved on to Duff and it was interesting when they went and made the offer they had you know Matt rule was there uh saterfield Glenn Thomas basically the entire offensive staff was there so I think that that shows you know what kind of priority that Dylan Duff is going to be moving for and like you said before it's a little bit hard to recruit another quarterback now with two Elite 11 quarterbacks in the room so I mean the fact that they seem to be on the right track with Duff is certainly a good sign and you know uh the uh quarterback recruiting difficulties are kind of the price you pay when you have two Elite quarterbacks in the room but honestly that's a price I want to pay it's been far too long since we've had a had a solid quarterback room with multiple quarterbacks in it so I mean I'll I'll I'll take that over you know an average Quarterback and a bunch of you know hodge podge pieces kind of thrown together yeah and then I mean they uh they visited a bunch of other you know they were down in Texas a little bit this week busy this week yeah so then they've been busy I mean throughout this period that's one thing is these guys really do hit the recruiting Trail you know hard constant they're just constantly out there you know doing work and um they're not going to be out worked in that aspect which which is uh you know which is a really important thing um and and getting down there in Texas we'll see you know how that goes and um yeah not a lot of commitments in the 2025 class but they're laying the foundation and now they're going to get the a bunch of these kids you know to uh take visits in February or March I guess for the spring game I think that's going to be an important time and um I think around then you probably will start to see you a few commitments trickle in and then you know around June and but overall I think they're off to a very strong start in the 2025 class and I love that you know Glenn Thomas is you know coming along on these visits too because it's a little bit easier of a sell in my opinion when you have a quarterback's coach who can you know kind of help see how you the quarterback can fit in the system you know it's one thing for an offensive coordinator say it but it's another thing when you have a guy that can come in and work with you and you know help you and make you feel comfortable and make you feel like you can be a part of the program you know as a quarterback and seeing things through a quarterback's lens so to speak so it's good to have Thomas you know down there for visits as well and it's got to be nice to have somebody that's you know on the recruiting Trail that's been like yeah I've worked with you know Matt Ryan and I know he's worked with a bunch of others I'm blanking on PJ Walker at Temple yeah PJ Walker the the kid at Baylor I thought he actually did a really good job with but I mean everywhere that you know pretty much he's gone as the offensive coordinator the play caller whatever they've done a good job I know people are pointing at Pittsburgh this year but they still made the freaking playoffs man with Mason Rudolph and Kenny picket playing quarterback so you know I don't think that they did that bad of a job I mean that might be the strongest thing on his resume right there come on man like uh I thought they were cooked and they still made the playoffs with Mason Rudolph like so um but anyway I do think that's a positive you know thing for him for Nebraska to sell him the recruiting Trail and he's just he's proven it everywhere that he goes he can develop quarterbacks um I'm really excited about what he's going to do with the quarterback room going forward he actually talked a little bit he did an interview I can't remember with who it was Glenn Thomas this week but he really had some positive things to say about the quarterback room and just you know he talked about his experience working with NFL quarterbacks and college quarterbacks and I just think he's whether it's a really high level guy or whether it's a guy that needs to be you know developed and really needs to have all those you know tools kind of built up I think Glenn Thomas is the right guy for the job and he can handle the high level talents and the developmental guys he's proven that throughout his career which makes him perfect I think for Nebraska football yeah I think we're going to look back at this and say that this was one of the more underrated moves of the offseason when all of a sudden done so I'm excited to see what Thomas can do uh in terms of working with the quarterbacks and again I think his higher was important especially when you have two you know very good but young quarterbacks in real and kin and a guy in in harberg that could desperately need some uh you know some back development so um but at any rate Let's uh move on to the basketball game tonight sixth ranked Wisconsin coming into the Vault um somebody a couple of weeks ago said if uh the NCA tournament was played at the Vault Nebraska excuse me would win the national championship and uh maybe they're right I don't know it's kind of wild that Nebraska would get beat by 22 points against a mediocre Maryland team and now we're favored by one against uh you know the sixth rank team in the country but that shows the power of home court Advantage so what are your initial thoughts about the matchup tonight I'm predicting a bloodbath and not in Nebraska's favor I mean I know they play well at home but they got to figure out what's going on with Casey they can't rotate defensively too well and this is a game where it you know we we've talked about bad Closeouts you know we saw bad Closeouts when they played um you know Maryland at the beginning of January and you know Conor Igan the bench guy was absolutely like the next Steph Curry out there and then you have the guy inside Tyler wall who had you know 17 points and eight rebounds and then you also have Chucky heurn who had 13 so they have multiple ways that they can beat you and you know talk about bench guys like Igan Blackwell also played well for Wisconsin uh he had 12 points as well so I mean I thought when we played them and they were ranked you know 21st at the time that they were too low now I think that they have you know an appropriate ranking due to some really impressive wins they've had their ups and downs this season but I'd be willing to say that this is the best Wisconsin team I've seen since 2014 2015 I mean they're just so well balanced and you know I like to I know we all like to drink the Kool-Aid and you love to uh have your Husker red glasses on but I really don't I really don't see us winning tonight I hope hope we do because we need to but I am predicting a a game that by the second half Wisconsin will pull away rather comfortably yeah I mean I definitely can see Wisconsin winning this game I don't think it's going to be a blowout though um but I could be wrong I mean they are very good team and what's crazy is like Conor aan he averages three points a game this year so that shows you I mean he plays he averages seven minutes a game and that guy just absolutely lit us up so you know that shows you how good I mean he was a really good player last year um I yeah you look at their numbers especially in Big 10 play um in terms of overall field field goal percentage first two-point field goal percentage first three-point field goal percentage third they're shooting 41% from three-point range in Big 10 play um the on the other side though where I do think Nebraska will have a a chance is Wisconsin's um 11th and three-point defense so they're giving up 38% from three-point line so Nebraska's got to make they got to make like 13 or 14 threes tonight that's just the bottom line if they don't do that there's no chance in hell if they don't outscore Wisconsin from three they have no shot at winning this game and that's just so it's going to be tough but they've got to just absolutely reign in the three-point Shots tonight if they're going to have um you know any opportunity to win um Wisconsin's interior defense um they're only ninth in uh you know in overall field goal percentage but a lot of it you know they they're eighth in uh twoo percentage so they can give up some things at The Rim they're not and they never have been um really a shot blocking team there's not they don't have a rim protector per se even C crra and wall only average um you know like 6 blocks per game so Nebraska can get the ball inside on these guys rink Mast has to play Big tonight um Jawan Gary I think has to come back I hope that he's if they don't have him then I would say I I feel less confident about their chances but if Gary is healthy and can play and I don't know if he can make shots that's that's my concern because he's like their best uh you know their best three and D guy who can actually make threes and play defense so I don't know man it's I I don't know how they're going to stop Wisconsin but I feel like you know they've played so well at the Vault I just I feel like that they're gonna they're going to make it exciting I don't know if they're going to win but I don't think it's going to be a lopsided game I don't know I mean you know if if they can't defend the three then you know they have to focus on defending Ty see see the problem last time these two players play was they committed to defending the paint which was understandable because Tyler wall was an absolute monster in there however that led to open shots on the perimeter so it was a double-edged sword so if they leave wall kind of you know alone in the paint single covered then they can just go inside and score the wall I don't know I just see too many too many um hurdles for Nebraska to overcome and then we have Illinois coming in on uh what is it Saturday or Sunday I think it's Saturday Sunday um yeah well it's a we have to go on the road but um yeah that's on Sunday Sunday yeah so uh this might be a little bit of a rough stretch here and um yeah I'm not seeing this one go well tonight I think Wisconsin is extremely hot right now and it's crazy when last time we played them they were 21st you know now they're sixth so they've certainly put in a good amount of work uh over the last month or so and I mean like I said this is a really good team so I'm curious to see how it shakes out tonight but I'm not I'm not necessarily predicting a close game I hope I'm wrong I hope I'm wrong but I'm not I I I don't have a good feeling about this one yeah I don't know see I do I do have a good feeling about it and I don't I mean um I just feel like uh sometimes when you play really bad you know you're I just feel like they're not going to play as bad as they did against Maryland like that I know they play I know that they I know that they've had bad stretches but I and I feel like too um you I don't know if you saw this but Fred was talking yesterday and like the coaches or some of the maybe the sports science or so they they had a load he like a load management plan for practice and he basically was like f that we need to work you know he threw it in the garbage and he was like we're working hard these next two days and they went after each other so I don't know I feel like there's going to be I feel like this team's gonna have a different intensity tonight and if R if dwan Gary is out there I almost said ran again if Gary was out there we'd have a shot I don't know I don't think he's got a very good jump shot but inside he could probably block a few shots though I I feel like he would get in foul trouble very quickly he would but he's the type of All Hustle grit type of player that you need but we do need that grit from Jan Gary because he does provide I mean rebounding shooting it's everything we need him tonight if Jan Gary's out there I feel like Nebraska's got a puncher's chance I don't I'm not willing to necessarily say that they're going to win I guess you'll have to check out my prediction at Husker big red.com but I don't know man it's a it's a toss-up game I just I don't know I feel like the Huskers are going to get it done I think that they're gonna pull the upset and then they'll go lose the next two games on the road so that's that's my prediction for Nebraska basketall hon you could be right they did that with Purdue so but I mean I think also goe well they did have Gary then too so I mean it's a it's a different you know he just makes such a differ like I don't think anybody expected him to be our best and most important player but he has been like no question I just wish he would stay healthy and I know that's not his fault at all whatsoever it's just stinks because you think about last year and then you think about this year and man I wish he was fully healthy and you know one thing that really kind of bit Nebraska in the butt against Maryland was the turnovers yeah and they need to clean that up tonight too as well because turnovers lead to open shots from the corner from behind the line and that's the type of game that was want to play they have to Nebraska has to handle the basketball and they have to be clean with their passes and their cuts and you know things like that because Wisconsin as soon as you give Wisconsin you know that type of Run game where they can you know pass in core and shoot a three that's the type of game that they want to play and they can also play Slow too but you can't let you can't let Wisconsin have transition opportunities and that starts with taking care of the basketball they have to take care of the basketball basketball tonight you know they've been a little bit sloppy with the basketball lately and that cannot happen or else this could be a game that's over early they have to make sure that they handle the basketball you know properly and Wisconsin should you know the thing about as a Maryland that's like what they do Maryland forces turnovers and so in that way they were kind of a bad matchup for Nebraska whereas Wisconsin they're not really that they don't block shots and they don't steal the ball they just they really don't very um they actually are the second they have the second lowest steel rate in the Big 10 they Force 8.8 turnovers per game which is 11th in the Big 10 um Nebraska has not been good taking care of the ball but um Wisconsin's not that team that's usually just going to get up in your that they're not going to try to force turnovers what they do do very well though is they don't give you Second Chance opportunities they actually allow the second or they allow the fewest offensive rebounds um and they they're just very good at at crashing the boards they actually allow the second fewest defensive rebounds to opponents which tells you they're getting on the offensive glass too so that's really the thing that you know I've seen more than anything in my life watching Wisconsin teams is they get those dang offensive rebounds and they kick it out to Shooters almost every time and so if you don't if you give up those opportunities Nebraska's gonna get killed if they lose the offensive rebounding battle they've got to keep that that in the turnover like they can't those extra possession things Nebraska cannot lose those battles or they're not going to win this game you're very right on that point but I do think that the way Wisconsin plays might be able to you know they're not a great defensive team they're they're solid but um you know I do think Nebraska's got some chances to score and they actually didn't score that poorly in Madison they just they gave up like a billion points so you know you're not gonna you're not gonna win if you give up 90 points but if they can somehow keep Wisconsin in the 70s tonight I like their chances but I yeah I really don't I'm not sure what to expect I just I guess I'm just going on the fact that they desperately desperately need this win and uh that they just got their butts whooped and I feel like that they're are going to you know come out with a little fire if Gary plays I think that could just give him a little bit of an emotional pull to pull off the upset but I guess my final point if Kay if if the real Kay tomaga shows up Nebraska is gonna win this game if he plays like he has lately the last couple of games and he's like two of seven from the three-point line we're not winning so Kay's got to carry this team tonight I not not carry it but we need one of those special nights where he's hitting those like you know 25 Footers that are contested like he needs to be on fire tonight well interesting because I think you know what's hampered him more than anything is his decision making in terms of taking shots early in the shot clock not moving the basketball I mean part of his you know game last year was you know cutting and moving and you know giving the ball to others who would then in turn pass the ball back to him for a corner three keeping the defense off guard you know and that kind of helped hide his I don't want to say one-dimensional game but his you know his three Point Marksman type of game now everybody knows and it seems like he's had difficulty adjusting to different ways to kind of you know hide himself on the floor and move around so he needs to be smarter in terms of just taking you know early shots and good looks as well as you know just moving without the basketball that was something he did well last year that you know he hasn't done as well this year to be quite honest with you yeah and I don't know what I mean Nebraska is I mean they're still 486 in the country in assist rate so they do assist really well but yeah it has been that part of Kay's game has kind of been taken away a little bit maybe teams are just you know ready for that too you know like watch because he always got people on those back Cuts so I mean he needs to you know come up with some other you know um another uh you know another out pitch I guess another way to get you know to get points and and maybe that comes up on Fred too of drawing some stuff up to get him some good looks I don't know but they've got I just I don't see them winning this game unless he hits like three or four three-pointers that's just that's just how I feel about it well it' be interesting to see how many minutes he gets CU he because you know his his minutes have been down as well so whether or not you know what that is I don't know but I'm wondering how much he'll actually play tonight to begin with I think part of it is you know I I think it is a very real look at Fred like hey man if Casa is not hitting if he's not hitting threes he's he's not a great defender so like really what if he's not making shots like what does he do for the team so which makes sense which makes like I'm not I'm not gonna say oh Fred put him in because that's a very that's a very solid point I mean because I think you know like you said he's not a good Defender so what does he do I think and if you take him out of the game I mean we saw when you know Mast had his explosion that was a different type of offensive team in the way that they ran the offense so I do think you know it's been smart by Fred to kind of pull Casey back a little bit but at the same time you're missing his three-point production I mean so it's kind of a double-edged sword but you know you also don't have have a lot of room to kind of figure things out if something's working like it did in you know in the Mast game I'll call it then you keep KY off the floor if ke's hitting and making F decisions you keep them on but you we're we're at the point now where we can't really Tinker with too much for fear of losing more games yeah because it's it's crunch time now I mean you really um if you haven't seen the Bracketology Nebraska went from a nine seed down to an 11 seed they're the among the last four teams in right now um after that Maryland and I think that was just because that was such a bad loss if they L that g awful loss yeah I mean if that's like a one possession game they probably don't fall as far you know and uh so yeah they've got to find a way to win at least one of these next three games because the back end of the schedule does get a little bit easier we get to play Michigan twice and they are just absolutely horrible but you still have to play them on the road so I'm not you know if they can't if this team can't beat Michigan on the road they don't deserve to go to the NCA tournament I'll say that because that team is bad um and what point do the should we keep Fred discussions start I still I still think even if I'll say this even if this team makes the NIT I still think you keep Fred hyberg because I just don't Who you gonna get that's better than him I just I don't know but uh I think that look after these after these games you got Michigan at home Northwestern or I mean Penn State at home Indiana on the road Minnesota at home Ohio State on the road ruter at home Michigan on the road so I mean even the last three Road games are all very winnable and so I think you know that seven game but the thing is is if Nebraska doesn't win these you know if they don't win at least one game in the stretch they're going to have to finish like five- two or six and one and that's not a place I think they can do that with that schedule but that's not a place you want to be in in the Big 10 and let's be honest here they've underperformed During certain stretches so I could see a classic Nebraska under their performance uh you know during the stretch would be which would be tough because I think this is the best team that Hoy Briggs had and they still can't put it together yeah and at least I mean they will make at the very like this team will make the NIT so I mean you know I have I would have a hard time firing Fred after you know the progress because I think that would be a step in the right direction but um I don't it's just it's one of those it's one of those deals where you you do have to get to the NCA tournament at some point and I think that this program that should be the expectation and I do think that Fred can get in there so we'll see what happens tonight it's going to be a defining game but I I'm going to stick with my guns I think Nebraska is going to play one of its best games of the season I think they're going to find a way tonight and who knows maybe I'm totally crazy but that's what I'm gonna stick with uh they'll keep it close first half second half Wisconsin will figure everything out and pull away 8572 Badgers um I'll say uh 8378 Huskers that's okay all right fair enough this is why you're on the show and I'm on the show so we can kind of balance everything everything out not too high not too low I I'll I I I hope you're right I'm not rooting for Nebraska to lose because this this this Boulder is rolling down the hill and it's not stopping so I'm just count I'm just counting on the whatever fairy dust magic or whatever like happens when they walk into the doors at the at PBA I'm just I'm just hoping that that works one more time tonight because that's really my only like if this game wasn't at the Vault I would have zero doubt about who's winning so I jarus Lawrence needs to step up Jamarcus Lawrence needs to like actually play some basketball and get things rolling because because nebras is a lot better when he's active and you know driving in the paint and stuff and honestly like I hate criticizing guys but he's been one of my biggest disappointments this year yeah well he's he's better than he's played like we've I mean I remember like I mean on defense too you remember last year when Tom ISO was talking him up like that's the Jamarcus Lawrence that we need I think he's just I think he's um thinking too much like when I watch him play point guard I just feel like he's thinking and not playing and so he needs to it's hard to play point guard it really is that's one position where it's almost like quarterback where like your first full year playing it is kind of just kind of like a wash because it it really does take some time so I I really hope that he can figure it out but I think you're right we definitely need that old Jamarcus Lawrence back so and we would love a big game from CJ Wilshire too he's been playing really well so I we we need him to come off the bench and you know match match Wisconsin's bench quite honestly because yeah I think the three-point battle uh between the benches will be fun to watch yeah CJ needs one of those big nights in double figures would definitely help so that game will be on Big 10 Network tonight you guys 7:30 pm central time if you're not at the Vault check it out there um and we'll have some coverage at Husker big red.com so make sure you check that out um and make sure that you guys uh hit the Subscribe button and uh we'll be back for another uh chat on Saturday morning so we can talk about football whatever happens on the basketball court and anything else uh that has to do with the Nebraska Corn Huskers so don't miss that and as always go Big Red go Big Red
